nstyx - may I have a cutting of the pink porterweed also? I have purple if anyone needs a cutting of that.
Ilovejesus - I'd love to come and get you or ride with you but you are waaaaaaaay out of my way. I hope someone near you will take you up on the offer of a ride. I want to meet you!
Houston (and surrounding area) meetup/swap meet
knolan, What a very sweet thing to say. I am blushing. I hope someone even channelview would maybe need a ride. We could meet around Krogers on I-10 east.
Their is still time. Around where is the location?
digigirl I would love anything homemade since my Dennis (DH) passed in Sept I eat marie callenders TV dinners and pot pies. I just don't want to cook for 1 and too expensive to eat out.
I leave the house very little. But loved my weekend with CJ and DH and going to the CS round up. We had a blast. They had to kick me out. They are wonderful people. And for my sweet CS round up family...I love them all.
even Kipper. Oh but don't tell him.
Anyone for maybe a fall Oct-Nov??? round up in Mont Belvieu??? There is a great park with a building with kitchen and a/c. And we could be in the shade outside with our plants. Might need tables for our plants. Just a thought. I can check and see when available. With no alcohol we could get it for 100.00 deposit and if I could get help due to a failed back surgery and I can do much. As long as left clean and garbage put in a certain spot, I get the hundred back. If there is beer I think we need to pay security as it is a city park. But I could look into that also and see what it would cost.
If enough interest here maybe I will post a thread and see what happens.
Blessings,
Sandy ^8^
This is shaping up! IloveJesus99, I-10 East at what exit is the Kroger's?
As to the location, right now I'm still thinking it isn't too big to have at my home. I've contacted the subdivision about the club house, in case the group gets too large, and I'm waiting to hear back from them on whether or not it's available and if there is a fee to use it. The house sounds better to me, because I know we have really good air conditioning, a big kitchen, a large patio and pool area and we can put our trade plants in the garage to keep them out of the sun. The club house does have a picnic area, with a covered pavillion, but I don't think it can be reserved, so there's no guarantee it wouldn't be occupied. I'd hate for a bunch of people to show up with food and nowhere to put it. I also don't know what kitchen facilities are available in the club house. Either way,
Meet Location:
Just off Beltway 8 between Westheimer and Wilcrest.
We'll give a definite as to exact location (home address or club house) well before the meet.
Thanks Crowellli!
I have what is kind of a silly question. Can we offer up any plant for trade? I have just started my garden at the new house this year and a lot of my plants are still small so I can't really take cuttings, not to mention I don't have a lot yet. I have rooted some trailing wave blue petunias and was going to try fuchsia and maybe some portulaca. I also have some extra white snapdragons, but I don't have anything that is hard to find or exotic. lol Would plants like that be okay?
And what about those of us who don't have any plants to trade? I barely have any in the garden yet...
Would y'all accept brownies or something in exchange? :P
Just show up so we can put a face with the name. LOL.
I think someone will take something home. Seems to work at the roundup - I wind up with things I didn't even know I wanted. Part of the learning experience, I guess.
Don't worry about not having anything to swap. It's the fellowship and the face, like Bubba said.
Oh ---------- and, yeah. BROWNIES was next on my dessert list!!!!
DiDi, for brownies, you can have some of everything in my yard! LOL
Don't worry if you don't have plants to trade. This is more of a "meet the local DGers". If you have plants, it's a bonus. I'm not swearing on having any myself. I've got lots of stuff, but whether I can root it or not is another matter entirely!
I'll make sure we have plenty of iced down drinks because they're so messy and heavy for somebody else to haul in. I'll get the paper plates/napkins/plastic ware too. I'll probably also add to the food, but will wait until I see what we're short on. I'm really getting excited about this! Mystic, what a great idea this was. I'm so glad you started this.
I'd like to suggest that folks who don't/can't bring a dish just bring a SIX-PACK of sodas. That way Crowellli won't incur that total expense, and those who are bringing dishes can pick up the food slack. Again, just a suggestion...
Okay, one pitcher of sangria, coming up. Just kidding! Hah!
Crowelli - you are so nice for doing this!
Ooohh, Kristi. Maybe we should make a side trip to Circle S, eh?
OK. Are y'all holding out on me??? What's Circle S????
There is a winery in Sugar Land. Excellent products.
oooooooooh, communion wine?!!! We're communing with God, nature, and each other!
Is there a better combination?
This is gonna be a blast!
I didn't know about the winery. Boy, the good stuff you find out about while on DG! Hubby and I will have to check that place out one weekend. He's been banned from buying French wines (I'm ticked off at them). We've found some really great Italian and Chilean ones. I'd love to find a good one from a Texas winery, though. Do they do whites and reds?
Bubba - we should stop there on the way! I think it's a must. Think there's any jalapeno wine left?
Love Chilean wine, Crowelli.
with the worm or the jalapeno in the bottle?
Oh, I've found a great Italian. Brand is Banfi. They have a red that's a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese that's my favorite red. It's pretty inexpensive too, which is always a plus. We may have to add a "wine tasting" to our potluck!
will that be before or after the tomato taste test?
Heeheehee......that sangria is sounding better and better.
Truthfully, if we do a wine tasting, I have a couple of bottles that I'd be happy to bring. And I can bring some stinky cheese.
Sorry, no worm. I've been pestering Dave to do a summer release of a batch of jalapeno, but not successful yet. Helen said they are still thinking about it (she wants to).
BUT - I still have a bottle unopened - one of the last 2 from the last batch - sold entire production in 27 minutes. Can't remember how many bottles 750 or 1000. People were in line from about 6AM, doors opened at 11.
BTW: There are many good Texas wineries. At one time, DW and I were about 6 shy of visiting all of them - can't say that now - there are dozens, more. We visited 7 near Fredricksburg in one afternoon.

I went to Fall Creek Vineyards last year. Lovely place. Bought a couple of cases but I have to say, the Chenin Blanc is a little too sweet for my tastes. Must have had too many samples when I tried it. LOL. We had my FIL's bday at Messina Hoff.....what a blast!
I want to go, I want to go!
We should bring a package of those tiny plastic glasses, so we can have a tasting for those interested. I can add a couple bottles from the Hill Country - we will be back there at the end of June and can restock.
I like wine ok but it surely doesn't like me! But I can drink champagne - "American brewed" the French stuff is a little pricey for me. Of course I know that champagne is sparling wine. I like Brut.
Ann
Ann, there's no rule that says we can't taste champagne!
Okay - who's up for a 2007 bottle of Boones Farm? Goes great with Kraft floppy American cheese in wrappers. LOL.
Be sure to bring your DG coffee cups for that! Would be out of place in a wine glass. LOL.
If ANYBODY has an extra DG coffee cup, I'd like to buy one, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!!!
Gymgirl - from everything I've read, I think you're out of luck. Time to paint your own mug.
Hey!!! I grew up in Houston. Do I count????? I wanna come. pleeeeezzzzzz?????
Does anybody want coffee grinds & filters? It just occurred to me that I'm collecting about ONE 5-gallon bucket every week from my job, and I was just about to tell my source to hold off for next week. BUT - if someone wants them, I could bring them in the 5-gallon buckets with the lids on them. I don't think holding them until we meet will do much harm to them. Let me know.
first come, first served....
Come on, AuntAnne!
Gymgirl, if it's not too much trouble, bring me some of the coffee gounds. I'm composting and I'll add it to the mix. If you run out of room due to riders, plants or food, you can skip them. I do have my priorities in order!LOL
This is sounding more and more fun! Wine tasting and plant trading? What a great idea. I never knew there was a winery in Sugar Land...
I'm trying to think what food to bring - do we need a main dish like a brisket or something?
kewl, are we starting a trade list?????
