Close up. I have been wondering if we will have the picture threads like last year when Janet was posting. I kinda miss her posts.

Does anyone know how Janett_D (I think it`s spelled right) is doing? Just curious.

I had one more I thought was interesting. Arlan might like this one too. It has the light yellow/green leaf, thin white picotee markings and a baby blue with purplish tinge to the center of the flower. This first flower is double and it had nothing but a bit of pollen to offer as far as being fertile. I thought it was interesting and wanted to share it.

Love that last one. It's exquisite!

You're right, Karen! I do like it. Is it from the same seed heritage as the lavender star seed I have from you? I have two of these plants growing, one is yellow leaved and the other is green leaved. I always have liked the kikyo flowered JMGs. Neither of mine are big enough for flowers yet...just buds! I got a later start this year...

Here is the yellow leaved lavender Kikyo plant: http://davesgarden.com/journal/j/si/124727/

Thanks!

Arlan, yes these are the same as yours. This is the third generation so far. These came in a mix showing purple, blue, pink, lavender color and light and dark leaves some smooth and some with the whirlpool shapes in them.

Mesilla Park, NM

Those are great flowers and the colors are outstanding. Thanks for the photos.

I had a couple of first bloomers this weekend.

Here's a wind damaged Hatsu Arashi.

Here's a lavender picotee that came as stray seeds in my packet of picotee blue last year. This years blooms are opening with more of a blue tint, but then get the lavender hue as the day goes on. It may be that they are growing in a pot with new Miracle Gro, so maybe they have more nitrogen than the ones I had last year. My camera did not get the color right, the bloom actually has a more lavender hue than this.

Here's what they look like in the early afternoon. The color is this pic is more accurate, but still not quite right.

So great to see all the flowers already! May the show continue nonstop for months!

Here are a couple flowers from a few early plants in the garden for evaluation. They are un-named siblings and have merit now primarily because they are the only ones blooming!

This is 385-40-14

...this is 385-40-15 and has a deeper pink color in "real life".

...and this is 385-40-10 showing the blizzard pattern from one of its parents. I'm looking for a blizzard flower on a small statured plant with crystal variegated leaves, like the Beni Chidori/Cameo Elegance complex (the other parent).

This one has promise...though there are several smaller plants in the growout that have not yet bloomed...

That's way cool they are flowering on such short vines!

Mark,
Just love that Lavender Picotee. Guess we need to figure out what to call it - that is if it doesn't already have a name.

Does any one recognize this MG?

Mark got these seeds mixed in with Picotee Double Blue Seeds from Livingston Seed Co. It seems the grower mixed these in by mistake.

Turns out that I too had the exact same blooms from the exact same situation last year.
Seeds from a Livingston Seed pack of Double Picotee Blue.
I'm attaching photo of one of my blooms.

Great blooms Arlan and Karen.

Karen just love this one

Beautiful blooms everyone! I am very late to get mine started this year. Hopefully I'll have some blooms this fall.

Wow, great to see these blooms! I was afraid maybe I jumped the gun on this thread. I`m glad to see blooms are out there! I have a few more....

This one is split three ways. I wonder if it is a split petal mutation or if it is just torn?

This one is a blue flower. It was completely sterile without any pistil and pollen free as well.

Another sterile one in light blue. Now I mark the vines and begin to tie blooms hoping for some fertile flowers to appear. Often they do show both the double infertile and single fertile flowers on the same vine and I`m able to get seeds.

Now here is a large flower. This one probably has a blizzard pattern that progresses to more white. Time will tell but this one looks pretty good for a first flower.

This one came back true through hand pollination. This is encouraging to me. I want to add that I weeded the pot all but the designated vines and found a volunteer nil. I moved it because it might be "something" you never know. Now it is time to tie blooms again...

Can't get over the size of those flowers, Karen, wow!

I put well rotted down horse manure and composted clippings from trimmings out of the garden last year in the pots. I didn`t put a whole a lot but a shovel full mixed in with each 4 gallon pot. So far the formula is a bag of el cheapo potting soil, some plain old dirt out of the garden, a gallon scoop of moisture control miracle grow and a shovel full of well rotted down horse manure and compost all mixed in. It seems to be doing them some good.

I feed miracle grow only if I sense they could use a boost and the pots with the compost and manure do not need any help at all. :)

Alas, no Mr. Ed in the neighborhood, will have to use some other fertilizer. LOL

Here is one last interesting one. This single flower will produce seeds. This one has light markings on it.

Gorgeous flowers everyone. We're off to a great start this yr.

Here is an early morning mug shot of the first I. purpurea I've grown. It was part of a "University mix" I purchased this spring.

Stunning photos, all! Thanks for sharing.

I have three cultivars from LouisianaMark; nearly every seed germinated (thanks Mark!). They are on their way up my stakes and my fence.

Arlan, That is absolutely fine! I love those!

I can`t seem to resist posting one more of the picotees. this one kind of reminds me of the one X has posted. So here you go: This one had no pollen but it had a pistil so I hunted and found some pollen to apply to it and marked the bud.

Thumbnail by gardener2005

Arlan, that flower looks like one of my kaleidoscope screen savers from 2 computers ago...fantastic shots there! Yours too, Karen!

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Thanks!

Patootie, Comanche is about hip high at a year. He measured 34 inches but he could grow more. He looks like he is staying small.

Also, here is one more of the hand pollinated pink blizzard flowers. I thought this looked like a country morning scene so enjoy!

And I thought these mixed purpureas deserved to be seen on the internet. :)

Everyone have a great day!

Karen my dog is taller than your Comanche LOL!!! He is 37'' at the shoulder!☺

Keep the flowers coming I love them all, it will be a while yet for my outside ones!! I am so jealous!!!

Mesilla Park, NM

I love Comanche more than the MGs.. he's gorgeous.

This is Wedding Bells (bud)... 81 days from sowing to bud, and another 20 days to full bud.. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have a flower.
