Rochdale, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

I am from Engand. Been on european forum with this but there aren't many posters. Has anyone any experience with this plant. Is it as lovely as it looks?
Thanks

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Mark

Rochdale, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Hi Mark
Its called Buddleia Flower Power in the UK. Its lilac and butterscotch. If you google either name and go on pics you will see it. I have noticed your posts on european forum not much seems to go on there. Wonder if the USA ones are better.

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Hi
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ok, i will look up the name............ I may even get one, i love buddleia!!
Nooooooooooo, european forum has gone really quiet just lately............ dont know why tho.

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

There is one for sale on ebay that i have found too...............

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I see those for sale all the time over here. I think Wayside is one of the sellers. I would be interested to see if you get any reviews from people.

Rochdale, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

They look fab don't they. Just wondering if they are as good as they look or is it just clever photography. By the w.y I know they are common but I love my crocosmia lucifers. Everyone comments on them. Have been on your site and I had no idea they were so many. I am also potty about flowering dogwoods and unusual trees. I have seen a massive acer sango kaku (think i spelt it right ) in our local garden centre but its £99. OUCH!!!

Wow! That is pretty. Never seen or heard of the bi-color variety before. Very nice. I just have the standard white and also purple blooming Buddleia.

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Becky........................... didnt you get the D-Mail i sent you about your Astrantia seeds???????????????????
They are posted and on their way to you................. hope you kept the list i sent you, because the idiot i got them from has put them all in one bag. So until they grow and flower, you wont know which is which!!!!!!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Thanks so much Mark! I thought that I sent you a d-mail in reply to your d-mail. (Must be getting forgetful in my old age. lol) Yes! I will keep that d-mail with all the varieties listed. I so appreciate it, Mark!!!

And YES! I do want to see more photos of your gardens when everything is blooming! Definitely would love to see them on your website! :-) :-) :-D

It's been raining quite a bit here. It is officially the first day of Spring in the USA. And we are getting the April showers already even though it is only March. :-) We really needed the rain. The plants and seed sprouts sure seem to be enjoying the rain water! It's just the birds, squirrels, and butterflies that aren't too happy about it! LOL! LOL!

Hi all,
I planted one of the Buddleia Bi-colors last summer/fall. I can't comment on it as it's buried under a foot of snow, but I hope it has survived the winter! Ebay has alot on auction right now, which is where I bought mine. Here's one thats not too pricey yet:

And this one I just found and will most likely be my next one. I've never seen a pure yellow one before!!!

Hope that helped in some small way, good luck to all of you who try growing it and hope you will post your success, or failure with this plant.

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Hi formidablelady, good to see another UK member here! If you go to your Info page you can put your location in your Preferences.

This may help for the plant you're looking for

http://www.mobot.org/gardeninghelp/plantfinder/Plant.asp?Code=C502

It may have some breeding from B. globosa in it too, as B. x weyeriana is in the synonyms.

Rochdale, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Hi Wallaby 1 Many thanks for the links. I have actually ordered it from J Parkers. But I am so excited I can't wait and I was hoping someone had grown it and could tell me wether it really is as good as it looks. Photographs are notoriously deceptive although meredith79 posted quite a good one on your link.

Rochdale, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Mark
I always fancied some geums. I believe Mrs Bradshaw is supposed to be good and Lady Strathen (did I get that right!) whats your opinion?
Mandy

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Mandy
If you like the bog standard red then Mrs Bradshaw is ok and same applies with Lady Strathenden with yellow..............
There are some really cool ones that are shocking orange and other such colours.......... cannot remember any names but will have a look later at the labels. You should try some, they make fantastic displays!!

What sort of flowers do you have there??

Mark

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Mandy, I hope you get the right one then! I gave up on J parkers, so many bulbs either dried up or the wrong plants, they show a pic of a different plant often, usually one which looks better!

4C here today, I guess it is all over, sun and strong winds with a snow shower, local forecast said 'feels like -3C'!!!

Rochdale, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Mark let me have your recommendations. I fancy the shocking orange one but love red and yellow too. My garden is mainly shrubs and trees and i love unusual ones. I have an acacia dealbata which isn't supposed to do well here but mine has masses of fluffy yellow flowers at the moment. A bit worried aboutthe frost tonight though!

Wallaby1 I am really worried now. I have had no dealings with them before now. Should have done my research 1st. Still I don't live too far from them so I can always pop in if any problems.

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

I will do that Mandy.............. God i have LOADS of different plants in my garden..........
Ooooooooooooo the Acasia sounds lovely........... Are they not very hardy then???????? I don't know much about them..........
Whats the Buddleia costing then Mandy??? lol

Rochdale, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

The buddleia is £9.90. J Parkers was the only UK supplier I could find till I looked on Ebay. I also have my eye on Buddleja x weyeriana 'Sungold' - Golden Yellow Flowered Butterfly Bush on www.gardeningexpress.co.uk and I am also looking for a large cotinus coggria golden spirit. Oh who am I kidding I have my eye on loads of things started off trying to do something really coordinated and just stick to hot colours but just can't help myself.....

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Sorry to have worried you Mandy! You might be OK, one way or another you will have a Buddleja!

Mark, Acacia dealbata is only said to be hardy to -5C, mine has taken much more but I grew it from a young plant and it's in sandy soil. The flowers on mine have had some frost, they are well in the air so if it's a ground frost it shouldn't damage them.

Mine is in it's second year flowering and is smothered, I got seeds last year but only took a few that I could reach, everyone's been getting some but none left now. It needs space, the scent is unique, nothing else I could liken it to.

I got pics on 19th Feb. not fully open then, it's still flowering.

Its lovely just like mine. Fantastic scent and brilliant foliage.Have you ever pruned it?

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Oh wow......................... how pretty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for showing me the photo Janet.
-5, thats about the same as crocosmia will stand!!
£9.90, same price as i am paying but from a different place!!!! Sounds like you are going to be spending a fortune on plants then Mandy............. watch out, Janet will get you on Gladiolus!!! LOL

Oh by the way, i was browsing earlier and came across this wonderful, but very very sad website............
http://www.simplesite.com/PKDeficiency

brought a tear to my eye

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

I don't think they need pruning, you see them cut back in catalogue pics, loads of flowers on small plants, but I don't think that would work well in reality. I got mine as a plug plant seedling for £1.25 in spring 1999, now look at it! I should have got a pic when the flowers were fully open, it's covered but some are dying off now.

Hi all,

I have Bicolor and it definitely IS as beautiful as you think. One downer though - it's popping up quite a bit in my garden - more than some other buddleias.

Rochdale, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Wow mine is about 7ft and more of a rounded bushy tree but I have only had it 2 years!

Rochdale, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Thank you soooo much victorgardener. Just the news I wanted. Can't wait now for summer at least the clocks go forward this weekend.

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

is it this weekend they go forward????????????????????? wow, that came round quickly

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

The clocks went forward two weekends ago - Mar 10th!!

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Not here in England they didnt........................ LOL

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

victorgardener does yours have a weeping habit? I got a pack of 3 years ago, from J Parkers, with no names. The purpel one died after being trodden on! Another was a white which I think is still alive but buried amongst other shrubs, it just kept getting black stems and dying back.

The other looks like it could be Bicolor, it has grown well and has smaller sivery leaves for a start, blue flowers with an orange eye. It took a long time to flourish but now is lovely, the stems are weak compared to some.

Thumbnail by wallaby1
Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes wallaby - a definite drooping habit.

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

I think I have it then!

That sure looks like it!
