I emailed but don't think I received any response whatsoever. I politely reminded them there are almost a quarter of a million DG members and most are gardeners. I hope that will wake them up.
Gardening By The Yard with Paul James
Just an automated acknowledgement here...
I purposely don't sleep in on the weekends just so I can watch Gardening by the Yard and the other gardening/landscaping shows while I drink my morning coffee. It's a great show with lots of good advice.
I try to do that from bed, and usually manage to miss most of them when I thought that I was just blinking. It comes on at 6:30 for me. I'm not good at that time on the weekends.....or any time.
I love watching Paul James too. And my dad also enjoys watching him cause he can use his advice sometimes. There is a gardening show on in the morning called Ground Breakers. There is one or 2 more on in the mornings too but can't remember what they are. No where near as many as there used to be though and I miss them.
Thanks for the link and I agree! I try to watch Paul James as much as possible and its getting redundant with all the home renos and decorating shows!
I wrote in and also suggested a new show about water gardening as well as more gardening shows.
Big Paul James fan here. I watch it faithfully from 6:30a-7:30a every Sunday Morning.
I was bummed when the Network moved his show to an obscure time, also!
It's true he's kind of goofy acting, but has more practical, down-to-earth, easy-to-understand gardening info than any other gardening show on TV (IMHO).
As far as I'm concerned the Network should be renamed to HTV- as they've all but taken out all the real gardening shows. What a change-and don't get me started on the quality of the cooking shows! LOL
Thanks for the link to voice my opinion to the Network!! They're about to get an ear full. grin

HGTV is getting a good education from irrate DGers. Once again, I love the people at Dave's Garden. May the DG force be with us!
I'm another paul james fan, watch him every sat. I to emailed hgtv. Lets let them know we want more gardening and less homes!
Someone was talking about cutting oak trees. Well I have one for you. An entire block of the courthouse sq. in Bolivar, TN burned around the 1st wk. of March. One of the offices that burned was a woman attorney. She moved her office to another location on courthouse sq. , but bought a buildiing 1 block east of the square. There was a magnificant oak tree growing between the sidewalk and street. We went by there 2 wks. ago and it was cut down. She was "afraid if will fall on my property". It was solid all the way thru. A slice of it was sent to UT at Nashville (I think) to find out just how old it was. A forrester thought it could be 200 - 250 yrs. old. What a jerk she is. If she were the last attorney on earth and I needed one, I would be defending myself before I would do business with her. Half the county is ticked off at her. LIZ
Anyone watching today's episodes? April, 1st. I found them to be especially informative and interesting. IMHO, Paul James has the best gardening show on TV.
rose,
I just watched both episodes! Never miss them early Sun. morning.
Loved the info on the orange trees, and seeing the new varieties. OH! and the kumquats!
Then, all the different things from Terra Cotta really caught my eye. What did you think of the "thumb" waterer? How cool was that.
I sure agree with you about his show being the best gardening show on TV.
I was a little surprised to see the Hort. Therapy piece on there, but thrilled-as it is something I believe in, so strongly.
I wish it was used more in hospitals, for physical as well as mental health!
Nursing Homes are another place where it's so beneficial.
OOPS! Don't mean to hi-jack...just giving another reason for loving this show!

Hi Sasha, no hijacking that I could see. Just more agreeing about PJ's show. I have often thought that gardening should be taught in all schools and schools should have some kind of garden or greenhouse, on a roof if need be, to show kids where their food comes from and about the natural world in general.
I agree with you about the Hort. Therapy. I even think it should be used in elementary schools. I've noticed that whenever I have kids wander up when I'm planting things or see kids tour garden spaces that they calm down and behave better. They ask really great questions, even the kids who you wouldn't think would be interested in anything to do with gardening. A year round school garden could be a calming influence as well as an educational one. There is more that one season to garden in and the veggies could be used at the school or donated to homeless shelters which is another good lesson.
Still loving Paul James!
I tried to get through the show today. Loved the citrus sement, especially the kumquats and remember the thumb waterer......and then, I think I fell back to sleep. If I had any brains, I would just tape the darned thing. I'm going to have to start making a decision on either watching SNL on Saturday night OR Paul James at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday. It is quite apparent that I can't manage them both.
NO WAY!! :-)
WE are going to need days and times if there are more coming.
I received back an very impersonal, computer generated response from my email to HGTV. I'm thinking that no one actually read what I wrote....or perhaps just didn't care.
Sure it wasn't 'World of Garden Makeovers'??!!!!!!!!!!
LOL!!!! Somehow I can imagine HGTV doing just that, since they are so focused on makeovers, with the lowball makeovers being questionable in longterm value and style IMHO...... It was either "World Gardens" or "World of Gardens" where they showcase different gardens from different countries. What caught my eye was the Sanssouci Gardens and Palace in Berlin, Germany.

Me too, I just emailed them, and said I hoped the rumors I had
heard of the show being cancelled weren't true. I said his
information was accurate, practical and pertinent, presented in a
charming and humorous way. Also, I asked why it was on during
some ungodly hour, when most gardeners were outside working,
and how about putting it on in the evenings, when most gardeners
are indoors and would be able to watch it.
Also, I told them that I redecorate only every few years, but I garden
each and every day, and in the wintertime I make plans regarding
gardening - both for additions and redactions. Hope they hear us.
Way to go Mahnot! maybe if we just keep at it. I sometimes wonder if Paul James is a member of DG, keeping incognito. Now wouldn't that be something?
Maybe he was that person who put down the show!!!!!!!
Mahnot ~ good idea to have the gardening shows on in the evening. Only problem I'll have is staying awake after slaving away outdoors all day.
I hope more folks will join us in emailing. The more squeaking the wheel makes, it will get the grease.
JUMPING JEHOSOPHATS MULTIPLIED!!!! I am watching HGTV right now and golly gee they are talking about conifers. SOMEBODY call my name, I must be in HEAVEN!!! " A Gardener's DIary" is on , I caught it just by chance as my pumpkins are still asleep on this day off "Good Friday" ....a good Friday indeed!
Maybe we can build on this energy by contacting them again and thanking them for what they've done so far. A Gardener's Diary is a pleasant show and we need/want more!
That's great. Are they old shows? I thought I read a while back that they were going to tape some new episodes.
I don't know, I didn't see them but I recall watching that show on PBS years ago.
I agree. I just set up my dvr to record them each weekday. Thanks!
True. Even their few gardening shows recently have been horrible. They use the same makeover theme. Once, I watched one episode of Garden Police and it was just so silly.
Hey Gang!!
It's 11:00a.m here, (Saturday) and the Paul James Show just came on!!!
Wahoo!!!
It's been missing for quite some time now (at a reasonable hour), so maybe all our e-mails have helped?!
DG'ers ROCK
I just got home.....and missed it. I wonder if tomorrow's 6:30 a.m. show will be a different one. I'm going to have to plant to tape it this time.....I can never stay awake through the entire thing.
I missed all but the last few minutes but I am happy to say it looks like it's a new episode and the info guide indicated it was a 2007 episode. And happily, the noodle head sprinkler he featured just came in today's mail. I ordered it from Gardener's Supply and if it's good enough for Paul James, it good enough for me.
And curb appeal is following Paul James!
I still keep hoping to see A Gardener's Journal again.
Well, I'm gonna go buy a new tape - just in case.
I haven't seen any changes in the lineup here yet, but
I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Have a Blessed Easter, everyone.
If you go to HGTV's website and key in "A Gardener's Diary: you will see it's offered on a regular rotation at 8:00 AM. But who, I ask you is sitting in front of the TV then, unless it's to have the TWC or a morning news show on in the background?
This morning he had a pretty good pair of shows on, imo. My onscreen TV guide dated them 2007 but when the credits rolled at the end, the date was 2005.
In one show Paul demonstrated the copy cat Earth Box from Gardener's Supply Co. It was an exact duplicate of two I have. They have since improved the self watering system.
Anyway, I really enjoyed the shows and hope HGTV keeps them coming.
