Yes, Dave. That's a very early mural.
Gram, the onion seed get planted the first of March to be planted in the garden 7 weeks later. They get hardened off then can handle a light frost.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Married and as DH would say."Just cause you ordered from the menu, doesn't mean you can't still look at it"

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

To Billyporter - homemaking is a 24/7 career. Estimated minimum cost to replace all services provided ranges from $40,000 to $80,000. Unfortunately, homemakers are not able to translate their free labour (especially raising the next generation of citizens/consumers/workers) into benefits like medical/dental coverage or pensions

Never underestimate the importance of your work. I have great admiration for homemakers.

I got called for Jury Duty today. I didn't get picked for the jury because I said that I believe that payments for pain and suffering should not be made into punative damages to the defendent. Are there no honest laywers out there? (Oxymoron alert) I didn't say that people shouldn't receive money for pain and suffering - the law says they should and I can and would follow the law. They wanted to stack the jury so that laysuits bring in big and bigger bucks - not that they are fair or follow the law. Jeez! In the mean time, the lawyers are running up billable bucks by going through days and days of potential jurers, tying up courtrooms that I pay for with my taxes, looking for the "perfect" jury of the plantiff's "peers". I say a perfect jury of my peers would be the next 12 people in line behind me at Trader Joes. Thanks for letting me vent.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Since we came here in 2002, both DH and DD have been called TWICE to serve on jury duty - probably because they have both registered as students. Anyway, they both have to politely decline since neither are citizens. I have never been called.

As for lawyers . . . my brother is the senior accountant at Legal Aid in British Columbia - the lawyer jokes he can tell!

Though some lawyers must be decent sorts who love gardens . . . :o)

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Yankee - you didn't even need to use your crazy cat lady excuse - good to save it for now.

I did have to send in my eligiblity card - so I'm guessing I'll be due here soon.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

thank God I am not the only single, not looking!!!!! I was begining to think I was weird... well I am becoming obssesssssed with gardening and maybe that makes me weird!

I think every lawyer should study gardening... maybe they would be more humane... and maybe they could persecute all japanese beetles and make them pay for damages and suffering....

yeah, I went to Law school... at my graduation ceremony I looked at my dad and told him: "Thanks for paying for college... I am ready to go and study Theology now.. can't be a lying lawyer... and make money on people misfortunes!!!!" He looked at me and said, well at least you have a degree... it's a nice diploma!!!" so I went to college for theology, came to the US and now just finished nursing... I guess I will be the professional student... maybe the next degree will be gardening....

hey I am reading a great book... to be honest I never believed any other book than a good John Grisham, or Tom Clancy would make me not want to come to work to read but this book is called Beautiful Madness, it's about gardening obssession and it is really interesting.... at least to beginners like me... I am so happy I found people that share my weirdness!

And you call yourself 5b....tsk tsk

Kassia - I think it would make more sense for you to become a teacher now.

used to be single and not looking

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Nursing is in high demand and will be for some time. I wouldn't switch!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Kassia - I am reading the same book! Have you read The Earth Knows My Name? I have a copy that I can lend.

Al Being a crazy cat woman probably would have gotten me onto the jury!

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

I have started the next page, sorry it took so long. Page 10 --> http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/704057/
Harper, my new site is http://dailypics.ning.com/ It's a daily pics thing, doing well too. I learn something new about it every day.
Kassia. I am single and not looking either. Sidekick Sarah is enough for me in my almost senior years, lol.
CKK, well said "no tea", made me laugh.

See you on Page 10.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Dave, thanks for the good luck wishes.

Yay for you Yankee Cat! Booo for those greedy lawyers making it nearly impossible for the rest of us to get by. I like Kassia's idea. Put them to work on the Japanese Beetles! I'll check out your Beautiful Madness book.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

What do you do with your post bloom Amaryllis bulbs, while the foliage is ripening? When do you fertilize them?

xxx, Carrie

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Carrie, I treat them like a houseplant. I put them outside in the summer in a partly sunny spot and fertilize them all summer long. The leaves die back in the fall, then I put them in the garage to hibernate for a few months and bring them into a warm spot in the house around January. I water just a little and wait for something to sprout. Once I see green, I start watering regularly, being careful not to overwater. I usually add bloom booster around this time. You should get another bloom if you do this!

Harper

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I have! C'mon to #10! (see above) What I really meant is what to do with them between now and when it's warm enough to put them out... which it isn't yet.

xx, C
