I understood ya Dawn...been together 21 years, married for 13 years in May. DH proposed more times than I can count in those 8 years of dating. I was a chicken, had cold feet, cold nose, feathers, and my running shoes on. LOL Even the best man at our wedding made a toast about it taking DH 8 yrs. to get me up the isle!!! Just wanted to be sure.....
Daily Musings * page 9
I thought it was the men who usually have the cold feet!
Hahaha good for you pixie - making him sweat like that!!! Obviously it took you a while to make the right decision but you had to be sure right? LOL.
Hahaha Victor yes I guess my response did kind of look funny - we have been happy for most of the 10 years LOL. I can't lie and say every day has been a bowl of cherries. I still can't get over that he doesn't pick up his dirty socks and underwear LOL That just drives me banana's. I know I am perfect so he doesn't have anything to complain about hehehe.
Dawn, it's never a bowl of cherries every day for ANYBODY! Funny, I am not the 'typical' man when it comes to habits like leaving clothes around. I'm usually the one picking them up! I detest clutter and I'm always at odds with mu wife about how much of our kids' 'treasures' have to be kept in the memory file.
Dave, ask the Mrs. to lay one on! Hee hee.
Well Victor I am somewhat like you in the fact I hate clutter as well. I hate it when anything isn't sitting in its rightful place - drives me nuts. Good for you for being one of those well trained men LOL LOL (kidding).
When I married DH almost 30 years ago, I assumed I would work all my life and he would stay home, write, and do all the domestic labour stuff I hated.
Four days after the "I do"s, DH says we should get into our traditional role - I was so young, I fell for it. LOL (At this point he could cook, clean etc. better than me!) Anyway, 7 years later I started university and never looked back. And now, everything is just as i imagined it . . . I work and he has early retirement. Mind you, his working all those years allowed me to go to university for almost 16 years (being a professional student is a lot of fun!)
And I learned how to cook, bake, (even bread) and even clean.
As to house temperature - well, we are hardy Canadians! When we bought Our Old House, we have the old 1899 boiler removed and replaced with a modern natural gas boiler. Of course, that occured during the first cold snap in December of 2002 (after a very warm autumn). For five days we had no heat as the temperature plunged below freezing(real freezing ie 32 F - still haven't quite figured out F degrees below 0 degree Celsius) The dining room temperature got as low as 34 degrees.
Anyway, we let water drip from faucets to keep it from freezing in the pipes. Made sure all our food was prepared in the oven, and stayed snuggled in our beds the rest of the time.
Do you know how Inuit (eg Eskimoes) kept warm in igloos? They slept without clothing under furs with the hair of the fur next to the skin. Sweating in clothes while one sleeps then going outside in very cold termperatures is a dangerous thing to do apparently. Anyway, I kept this in mind, and never fretted that we would die of hypothermia.
Our Old House temperature is 60 degrees during the day, and less at night - but we warm it up to 70 degrees when we have company :-)
Wow Seador married 30 years!! Gosh I always imagine what dh and I would be like in another 10, 15 or even 20 years. We always joke about how we will get under each others skin LOL We have always gotten along pretty good. I hope it keeps up that way. We are best friends first and really respect one another - I guess that helps in keeping a marriage alive hehehe.
My problem when I married dh is that he came right from the comforts of home where his mom still did everything for him - he was so spoiled. Then he met me and moved in with me and quickly realized I do NOT iron clothes nor do I serve dinner LOL. It was a reality check for him LOL.
Happy Anniversary Mr & Mrs Dave 47. That's great that your proposal place is still there for you to revisit. So romantic!
Nice marriage stories everyone. I've been married for 19 years, and together with DH for 24 years. He always picks up his socks.
Ha! You lucky bum!
That's a great picture, Dawn! She's so cute!
Dawn, she's adorable! don't think you could take a bad pic of her if you tried LOL
Happy aniversary Dave!!!! it's certainly a great thing!!!!! great stories... I hope you all live together forever... good marriages need to last and be an encouragement to to others!!!!
temp... I am Brazilian and I LOVE the cold.... yes everyone thinks I am crazy.... my bedroom was set on 60 for the entire time... no change... but yesterday was set to 55 and I have not changed... probably will be on 55 another week and then I will turn it off!!!! and I sleep with the door open... cotton sheets and no comforter...
it's a question of survival .... the turtles have a heater and the plants need to adapt... yes, right now my bedroom looks like a greenhouse... new plants in every single inch of the window!!!!!
Very cute Dawn. Look out for those terrible twos! For my boys, it started before two and hasn't stopped yet.
Victor
My girls had charming twos and terrible threes. Luckily I had no boys.
xxxx, Carrie
Oh I know all about those terrible 2's. My eldest is 4 now and I think her 3's were worse!!!
Congratulations Kassie on your RN status!!! Whoopie!
Congratulations Dave and Mrs. Dave on your anniversary, and congratulations everyone else on your wonderful, happy marriages. You give me hope.
What a cutie Dawn!
Harper
Thank you all for your warm wishes and Andy, thanks for the flowers. We spent 18 years as best buddies and the example to doubters that platonic female/male relationships can exist. Then, after a divorce for each of us, it suddenly changed.
Dawn, How cute. What a great expression you caught.
Dawn, your daughter is adorable - don't pay any attention to people warning you about "terrible twos." My eldest daughter was wonderful at two . . . at four we were practically willing to sell her to the first bidder! Then, when she was five, she was wonderful again - go figure . . .
As for being married for thirty years - I like to think I was a child bride LOL
thanks Harper... I am still celebrating.... when people ask me if I am leaving my job or what's ahead the only thing I answer is "for the next few weeks the only thing I am doing is gardening! and some people think I am crazy.... well, nothing new there!!!!
Krazy Kassie...that has a nice ring to it, too. everybody should be crazy like you are, sweetie :0)
Ha! You won't find anyone here saying you're crazy for wanting to garden! We're all just as crazy!
Or crazier - speaking only for myself, of course.
Aren't you the crazy cat lady ;)~
Oh no NOT the crazy cat lady LOL LOL Doesn't every neighbourhood have one of those hehehe.
I was already crazy before the evil cat took over my life. What? Tell them you are not evil - just "spirited"? OK - Wallingford is not evil - just spirited. Please excuse me - I have to feed my cat. (Jeez - I thought I already fed him this hour . . .)
LOL!!!
one of my co-workers. (the one I call computer slave boy#2) he is good friends with my nephew (computer slave boy #1) went to my house last night and my nephew took him to see the turtles - well my dearest nephew told him: "come to the crazy lady of the swamp bedroom... she has reptiles and all these vines growing in her bedroom!! well, roses too..."
the poor guy looked at me like I was really crazy.... and he saw all the bulbs under the growing station (is just a glorified table) all he said was" you have got issues... you need some serious meds!"
lol.... it was pretty funny... a crazy nerd tellling me I have plant issues! I am just passionate about nature!
Andy, ROTFL over the cat. It's pretty close to that! I blame my typing errors on him. Love the crocus name. It fits. Mine are just green tips an inch long.
Congratulations Dave47!!! I like the 36 year reference. Very nice relationship! It was 30 years for us last August.
AYankeeCat, I got to giggling over your fridge. Sorry.
Carrie, that is so sweet!
Dawn, she's adorable. My DD does all her own yearly photos too.
A cartoon for Bigcityal.
A rare Foghat reference Sally. Now to work in Uriah Heep ;)
Actually it's kind of funny because I have had this cheap wooden brush/scraper for like 10 years now - even has duct tape on it, but I hate the new plastic ones.
Congratulations on your Anniversary Dave, 36 years - is that formica?
Hmmm, that may take some doing :))
I think 36 years warrants Prozac.
LOL LOL Prozac!! You kill me Victor!! Love your sense of humour.
Come on now 36 years of marriage is a wonderful thing. Something to be proud of and praised!! So many couples don't even make it to the 10 year mark.
36 years would be a great accomplishment except I've only been married 18!
Al, 18 is cubic zirconium.
Victor, 36 isn't prozac, it's Viagra!
PS Billy, I love Zits!
Sorry for the undue sentencing Dave. You got married around the same age as me then.
I think I remember seeing you at the reception.
Ooops sorry Dave I take it back. 18 years is nothing LOL LOL. You need to survive till 30 before you get any medals LOL LOL Kidding!
Dave - I saw the cash bar and got out of there.
I have in 77 years of marriage in dog years.
Men always measure marriage in dog years since we're always in the doghouse. Dave, I'd like to respond to you but it might trigger the thought police.
Is everyone familiar with the three rings of marriage for men??
Engagement Ring - Wedding Ring - Suffer - ring!
