Pull Up a Chair XXI

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

Gee, Rena, the shelters here only charge $90 to $100, and most
charge seniors only $40 to $60. No wonder there's so much
dog napping going on.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

Great pic BP, love the chairs, you look comfy!

Elephants are so smart, I love them too. I think I saw that show with the 2 being reunited, so sweet.

Unfortunately, some day, most wild animals will be in zoos, there will be no room left for them, especially the predators and the huge ones.

Loved the kite guy......that was actually really amazing. At first I thought it was more than one person. I wonder if his wife tells him to 'go fly a kite' when she's mad at him.

Boerne new zone 30, TX(Zone 8b)

problem is Mahnot, the shelters are selling the dogs to rescue groups and the people that say they are rescuers are then selling them for a profit. MOST rescues don't operate that way but so far I've found one here in SA and one up there near you. They both specialize in small dog breeds and go to the pounds and shelters nearly daily picking up the smallest dogs. I have not problem with that... but both of them want 200.00 for a rescued dog. (even one that hasn't been spade). I know shots and deworming and stuff costs but it just seems to me that three is something wrong here.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Good one, Fly. Hahaha.

Does any one take the National Geographic? This month's major article is on the elephants in Zakouma - such a sad story. All the poaching.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Thanks everyone. They are definately ''end of the day'' chairs. Once you sit in one, gravity sets in and you don't get back up unless you have to.

I agree, only in captivity if gong extinct. I really feel sorry for circus animals. When I was a kid we had a small zoo in the next town. I loved that place! The cages were small, so it was better that it closed.

Prices for dogs are outrageous. No animal is worth that! I don't mind paying to cover the cost of shots and maybe the stud fee if they had one, but it's getting out of hand. Do you suppose rescues ask that much because the ''stars'' all have tiny dogs? They had to watch people after 101 Dalmations.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Something is wrong, Nada. Have you tried Special Pals? You can usually adopt a pet there for $90 and that includes the shots, neutering or spaying. I got my cat, Tiger from them and I think they're a pretty good organization.

Boerne new zone 30, TX(Zone 8b)

I don't know billy... and I know I've only been looking a couple of weeks. But when you find a dog on petfinder and go to the shelter to find out that the dog has been promised to a rescue and you call the rescue asking about adopting a dog from them... The prices just 'seem' to me to be a bit inflated.

I actually don't pay attention to what the 'stars' have. I just want another small dog that I can take with me everywhere like I did Jasper when he was younger (once he got over 10 he wasn't much interested in it as much).

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Seems like everyone has to pick up on the fad even tho most of them don't know anything about dogs. (I think it's like not selling black cats around Halloween.) They know people will want a little dog just because Hollywood made it ''cool '' I don't care about the stars either. Dime a dozen. I hope you find one despite the prices. How about the want ads?

I'm off to take a nap. Can't keep my eyes open.

"Oh, the old grey mare
She ain't what she used to be..."

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

i think the twins have pink eye not sure.. they are acting up he was suppose to be here take them to dr. i so wish.. i'am tired tired blood i guess..i know i got to get on eating right..hes 2 hours late so far..

I would not give that for any dog.. can find homeless ones someplace or someone who changed mind maybe. i thought thats what charged for shots.

BP the chairs are beautiful..

i love elephants, tigers, monkeys, all animals i guess.

Anita you over do so much i wish i could do 1/2 what you do..

everyone take care..

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Nata, Do you have a Petsmart or Petco there? They have adoption days, and the fee is much less. I understand charging something, so that they go to a home that will take care of them, instead of someone who wants them for who knows what. I don't trust people on this issue. My DIL is a foster home for cats and the organization then adopts them out.
K -That site was amazing. I just don't see how he can do that!! And, man - he better start wearing a shirt. He looked sunburned.
And, K - Fly and I can't handle the Nat'l Geographic thing....
M - You need to start getting to bed earlier. You have become a night owl!

Speakers are coming along great. Got another fantastic one today. Only have room for a couple more, if that even.... Let me put it this way: there are a couple more that I really want, but not sure I have the room for them. I have
I need to concentrate on my program. Before I know it, I'll be in big trouble. It just plain takes a lot of time.

But for now, I need to get ready to go to the Camera Club meeting where they'll say all sorts of things that I won't be able to process....Sigh....

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Have fun at your camera club, Ceejay.

Yes, Petsmart....it was adoption days from Special Pals that I got my Tiger. They had pups there too.

I should have known the National G. is too pornographic for you two. Snicker, snicker.

Hope - be careful, you don't want to get pink eye yourself.

Whew....I've been out planting. I planted Lily's, a loquat, an iris, and a skyflower vine. Found a baby passie and moved that out back. I hope I find more.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Did any one watch 'Wife Swap'? There was a fist fight at the end. Woo! Hoo! Shame on them boys.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

I watched it, do you think it was staged? They were polar opposties! Actually, the brunette tossed her water at the blond and that's when her husband pushed over the table and went after the other guy. It didn't seem very productive criticizing each other at the meeting.

I so envy that cowgirl wife, she's one lucky gal!

National Geographic always will put in a tragic story about animals....I can't read that magazine. Poaching is horrible.

Mahnot, your Greta L. looks precious, I didn't know she was a Rottie, for some reason I thought she was German Shepherd.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

I think it's ALWAYS staged.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

Oh, that takes the fun out of it then.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Well, that was a waste of time. It was supposed to be a program on forensic photography, but the guy that was supposed to give it has changed jobs and is no longer available to do it. So they substituted a member of the class (these guys know their stuff) who gave a program on PhotoShop Elements, and I'm thinking woo hoo!! this is what I need!! And he said stuff like you can do this with PS and you can do that, and this and that.... Well, yeah, I know you CAN do it, but I want to know HOW to do it!! Frustrating.

Has anyone here been to Bellingrath Gardens in Alabama?

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

OK - here goes.

Twyla, wash your towels and washcloths with bleach, and the bed linens too -
I hope you don't catch the pink eye.
I've never been to the Bellingrath Gardens, but I would love to.
Been a night owl since I was a little child.
Don't know a blooming thing about digital photography, much less Photo Shop.
Don't get the National Geographic anymore - I give a subscription to my kids
for Christmas - that, and a membership to the AAA Motor Club.
Greta Louise is a Rottie/German Shepherd mix. She has lost the Rottie look.
Both the brunette and the cowgirl were extremists at opposite ends of the spectrum.
Ceejay's gonna have the best speakers ever !!!
The guy with the kites needs to put a shirt on, or else lose the rolls.
My PetSmart is too far away and too expensive.
Billy, you look too young to be retired.
Murmur and Biv are MIA, so I'm hoping they're OK. Haven't seen Connie.

((((( Bama ))))) thinking of you.

OK - what did I miss? Taking a nap makes me cranky.

Boerne new zone 30, TX(Zone 8b)

ah Mahnot.... don't be cranky....

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

I've been lurking a bit, but awfully tired for some reason. Just my usual complaint, I guess, of not enough time to do all I want to do.

If you haven't already done so, you might want to read Bama's post in her prayer thread today - she's going to be needing us.

Boerne new zone 30, TX(Zone 8b)

yea.... I wish I could do/be more than just a friend on the end of a computer cable.

Central FL, FL(Zone 9b)

It's so sad to hear what David's going through; it's horrible to see a loved one suffer. Cancer is such a horrendous disease. I wonder if we'll ever have a cure for the many different types; that would be the most wonderful thing.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Mahnot - That site is a blast! Had to laugh out loud at some of them. Very clever descriptions of some very funny "research", etc....

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

Stop laughing, Ceejay. A lot of that is your tax dollars at work !

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

(((((((((((BAMA)))))))))))

What can anybody say? All our hearts are heavy this day.

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

Well, I've got to hit the road before it rains. Hope the line at the
post office is not out the door. Wish me luck. Ciao for now.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Poor Bama....my heart is breaking for her.

Good luck, Mahnot.

Hope everyone is having a swell day. Not much to report here. I'm going to a potluck pre-sale perennial meeting this evening so I gotta think up something to whip up.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

M- Well, it's publish or perish in good ole academia....Somebody should make a study of how much money is wasted on this concept. And I wonder how much that would cost?

I think we can all say that we wish we could be with Bama to lift her up, and help her bear this burden... I am so glad her sister is coming to be with her.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

Cancer is a horrible disease from the devil i believe. and what is so sad it comes back when think we are all cured.

I feel so bad for Bama. and his family.. praying for them to feel comfort.

Anita thanks. Dr. said back to school since on antibiotics. i have them next 5 days except thursday is my one day off. so have thru next monday. so i will be tending them. i do feel like heck my self migraine since nose bleed this morning.well he is bring them back over now so must pick up things. thinking of you all blessings..

twyla

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

Phew ! For a minute there, Twyla, I thought you were gonna say
you were addicted to something illegal, LOL. I can only eat
one half of a Reese's cup. After that, I get deathly sick. Too rich
for me.

"...pot luck pre-sale perenniel, pot luck pre-sale perenniel, pot luck
pre-sale perenniel....." Sheesh, knolan, you trying to make us crazy?
It's been running through my brain, like "rubber baby buggy bumpers."

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

..or 'big black bugs bleed black blood'.... sorry, I just had to go for the fear factor there.

Has anyone seen 'Borat'? Oh my goodness....not for the faint of heart. I'm laughing my hiny off.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

OMG - nevermind! DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE!

OMG, OMG, OMG. That's all I can say. I repeat.....DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE!

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Ok, whew, I'm better now. I've never seen anything like what I just saw in that movie and I won't go into details. But, of course, I finished watching it. I'm like that, ya know.

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

And that's why we love you :o)

The movie is next on my list.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Jeesh! I wanted to see it, but now you have me scared! I thought it was supposed to be funny....

Twyla - Yes!!! Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. I like to buy them for Halloween, then I eat them before the kids come.

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

Hi, Ceejay, so you're a Reese's addict too, huh?
I just had 2 bites of an Almond Joy bar and now I don't
feel good. Can't handle sweets.

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

Would somebody please play with this and explain to me
WHY I'm having trouble with it? It looks so EASY !!!!!!!!!!

http://www.worqx.com/color/palette.htm

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

M - Yes, I've noticed that people who drink a lot of alcohol generally don't like sweets. ;-D

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Phew - looks too complicated to me. What are you trying to do?
