Wow - the thread has been quiet today.

I've been busy! My bro and SIL and all three kids picked us up this morning and we met my mom and my DH for lunch. It was kind of fun having most of the family gather for a weekday lunch. We went to our favorite gross little Chinese place in Houston.

This is funny...Nada....I thought about you when this happened.

After lunch, we went to the local garden center and as we were pulling in there was a little dog, probably about 6 mos. old, just wandering around. SShe looks a little bit like Greta Louise. She followed the kids everywhere. No collar, no tag, nothing. We asked the staff there and they said she had been hanging out for the last two weeks and they were kind of looking out for her. We went for plants, bought none but my bro and his family left with the dog! She's so cute. She's a small mixed breed and has the cutest personality. It was meant to be. The kids were SOOOO excited.

Afterwards, R and I finally went out bowling. My first game I bowled a 72. Yep, I'm a pro. Second game 112 and third game, 96. Broke a nail and my arm is a little sore but it was fun. At least I didn't slide down the lane with my legs in the air this time.

Well, I'm going to put a movie in and sit and crochet. It's been about a week and I'm itching to finish this blanket for my bro and SIL's combined bdays.

The dog story makes me smile big time!!!! My daughter in Southern CA has a dilemma - their next door neighbors have a Shitzu who is being neglected (left outside in 90 degree temps with no water, or at least the water is gone too soon). The owners are a neurosurgeon and his wife, both of whom are NOT dog lovers. They bought the dog a couple years ago because they thought the children should have one. The kids are young and lost interest soon so the poor little thing is outside barking constantly. My dd and her dh would take the dog in a heartbeat, but don't know how to approach the people without being insulting and turning them off. I swear if it could be done, I would have my dd dognap Elvis (that's his name!) and bring him up here to me. DH would have a fit, but oh well, he has fits over my cats anyway (quiet fits, I admit, but he wishes we had no pets at all). In the meantime, my 16 year old granddaughter goes over there every day and gives the dog water and love (and healthy dogfood). Say a prayer that they can get him, okay?

I'm almost out of here, I hope, and won't be back until tomorrow - have a St. Patrick's Day event at my cousin's tonight and staying over with my bro and sil. (Then back to that nursery to spend some money!)

Happy St. Paddy to everyone - enjoy your day whatever you do!

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

The Lorica of St patrick

I arise today through the power of God:
God's might to comfort me,
God's wisdom to guide me,
God's eye to look before me,
God's ear to hear me,
God's word to speak for me...

May you always walk in sunshine.
May you never want for more.
May Irish angels rest their wings
right beside your door.

HAPPY ST. PADDY'S DAY !!!

Well, I'm for opening the gate for Elvis.
Glad you've got some time to yourself, Twyla.

I'm cooking corned beef and cabbage for my SIL and it's
almost ready, so I've got to run. Just dropped in to say HELLO.
So odd not to have a big St. Pat's party and hear lots of Irish
jokes and see the step dancers. Guess I'll get used to it one day.

Ciao for now. See ya later.
Have fun, everyone.

((((( Bama )))))

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm cooking the same, Mahnot. Have fun!

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Just finished ours, man, that corned beef was a jaw exercise. What's left will have to go in the slow cooker!! Cabbage was tasty though. That's it for me, time to sit down and read my early editions of the Sunday papers. Take it easy Twyla, they'll be back before you know it.

Hope, what a beautiful poem/blessing. Thank you.

well the dog is one small ball of fur... still haven't found the perfect name. she wants to be held all the time.. but she is soooooo cute! she is laying on the bed beside me right now (I'm on my laptop) asleep.. I just want to hug her . *giggle and she still has puppy breathl.... I just love puppy breath.

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Greetings,

I've just pulled up a chair to announce to the world
(or at least Dave's Garden) that hubby and I have officially
changed what St. Patrick's Day is for ourselves.

It is now "Eat at Red Lobster and buy a green bra day."
That is exactly what we did, and that is exactly what we shall do
each year from now on.

:-) Karen Marie

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Nada....it's great to hear that your enjoying the puppy breath! I agree, nothing quite like it in the world.

Wuvie and se_eds - welcome! Hope you'll join us often.

Now Wuvie, where does one find a green bra? I'd wear it while I drank my green beer and all those other important St. Patty's day traditions.

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Knolan, many thanks for the welcome, indeed
this looks like a fun thread full of great information
and ideas.

While strolling through the unmentionables, I was
on a mission for a certain brand. I couldn't find it
but I did comment to hubby about how cute
one item in particular was. Lo and behold, but
we ended up laughing because after scouring
the store for a just right item, it ended up the cute one
was the only one in my size.

And in green.

LOL. So we bought it and laughed all
the way home.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

That's priceless! what a fun new tradition to start. I hope you found matching undies. I'd wear a green bra too.

I'm STILL cooking my St. Pattie's day dinner. I was out in the yard until 7:00 pm and didn't get the corned beef briskets in the oven till afterwards. When spring is here, it's hard to pull me outta the yard. Good thing my daughter is at my mom's tonight because she'd be beating me over the head and screaming for dinner.

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

Welcome, Seeds and WUVIE. I'm glad you stopped by but,
trust me, there's little information here. They're not into that -
they're into mischief and critters and pranks. Other than that,
they ain't altogether a bad sort. Oh, yeah, they're definitely a
green bra crowd, so you'll fit right in.

OK, I just managed to drag my derriere in here with me - it's
about 10 Ft. behind me all day today. I'm so depressed.
My grandson, age 12, is growing a shadow on his upper lip.
Now, I've been teasing him for months that the next time I see him,
he'd better not have a moustache and he chuckles with glee and
says "Grandma, I'm coming with a BIG mustache." He was gonna
put on Graucho Marx glasses, with mustache attached, but it
looks like the little bugger is starting on one. Ack ! They're coming
in May and I hear he's already grown 2 inches since he was here
for Christmas. I'm so sad. Boo hoo.

By the way, I heard a great definition today on the radio:

"Depression is nothing more than anger without enthusiasm."
I thought that was pretty clever. PLEASE - nobody who's depressed
make a longwinded comment as to how depression is ..................
I'm talking "clever" here, not medicine.

Gave Greta Louise a Benadryl tonight. The poor thing has been laying
on her orthopedic bed all evening, so her hip must really be bothering her.
Surgery comes in the middle of May, after everyone leaves. Can't have
her rambunctious self around company - she wags her whole body with joy.

I've had the windows open all day and the house still smells like corned
beef and cabbage. Of course, with the Mogen David, I don't notice it
as much now. Tomorrow, I use the spreader and put out fire ant killer all
over the place. I'm beginning to see activity in several areas in the yard,
so I'm just gonna kill 'em all. No spot treatments for me. I got 3 big bags
and that should do the yard and out in front too. If not, I will gladly buy more.
It's them or me ! I got Spectracide.

The bugs are back. I saw a bunch of those mosquitos that are the size
of buzzards hanging around the carport today. Where's the dragon flies
when you need 'em ? Ants ! I've got ants coming in the kitchen for the
last 2 days and I don't know where they're getting in. Grrrr.

I swear, I don't know how it happens but my desk has got piles of papers
on it that are 2 Ft. high ! What would I do without a shredder? And it's
time to balance the dreaded checkbook again. I so enjoy procrastinating,
but it always gets me in the end. Heard the sounds of children laughing
outside today and it seemed so strange to me, pleasant but strange.
There's never anyone on the street here but the kids across the street
are getting bigger and were outside playing hoops. Made me feel good.

Watched a movie tonight - Tristan and Isolde - and really enjoyed it,
very nicely done British film. Don't ask me the names of the actors,
I don't have a clue. You know, that's one of my pet peeves - they don't
show you the name of the actor and their face at the beginning of a movie,
like they used to in old films. You know, starring Bette Davis - and her face
to go with it. Now, I don't know who's who anymore. Sure wish they would
start doing that again. They pay bazillions to advertise the movies, so
why don't they put the name and face in their ads? If I knew who's who,
I might see more of their films.

Things are budding all over. The big old Mulberry in the yard is sprouting
leaves, the Carolina jasmine is in bloom, so's the peach tree. It didn't
have any peaches for the last 2 years, but it still blooms and is a pretty tree,
so I haven't cut it down. I just feed and water it so it stays alive. The doves
like to nap in it too.

Well, I'm off to bring my doggies back in and go to bed. Can't believe March
is already 2/3 done. Where does the time go to anyway? Ciao for now.
Hope you all have a lovely day.

By the way, did you see the bears that Bama's sister, Rylaff, made? Too cute.
They're in the Crafts thread, I think. Can't remember now. Ta ta.

Central FL, FL(Zone 9b)

So glad you pulled up a chair Se-eds and Wuvie. The first thing that came to mind when you talked about your new St. P's Day tradition was, "Won't your DH look strange in a green bra?" LOL

Well, Mahnot, me dear....look at it this way: It would be worse if Sean didn't grow any facial hair at all...ever. He'd look a tad strange at age 30 with a baby's behind kind of face. :) But, of course, I do know what you mean. My sister's firstborn now looks like Paul Bunyan...6' 4" with a beard and balding...but WOW is he ever handsome! It's sad that I'll probably never see him again.

I wore myself out yesterday going back and forth to the tile store (more on this later), but my client is going to have an absolutely goooooooooorgeous travertine floor in her sun room. Some tiles are big squares; some, smaller squares; some, big rectangles; others, smaller rectangles; all with chiseled, irregular edges....very natural and organic. We're not going to fill in all the holes inherent to travertine. Next, I start shopping for furniture. This is going to be a fun project!

We just finished brunch: One of the best fritattas I've ever made...(bow, bow)...if I do say so myself. :) Of course, DH agreed.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Shame on you Mahnot, telling Wuvie and Seeds "Theire into mishief and pranks and critters".

Ya'll don't lister to her....she is one of the best pranksters and mischief makers of all.

That was a good definition.

My house smells like corned beef and cabbage too. Considering we didn't actually eat until 11:00 pm last night! (I didn't get the briskets in the oven until 7:00) I had to make 2 because it's DH's favorite thing in the world to eat. I had one little slice (I don't like it) and he devoured the rest of an entire brisket. He's so funny.

Okay Biv, you tell us about the best fritatta you've ever made but don't share the recipe? What gives?

Well, I'm back out in the yard today. I planted lot's of color yesterday and have more to go. I'm still babying all of my tomato seedlings and they sure do require a lot of care. I don't think I'll start tomatoes from seed again. Too much work and they're slow growing. Everyone else is going to have tomatoes WAAAAAY before I do.

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Hmm. What is the difference between fritatta and focacia?

Knolan, glad corned beef was mentioned. Hubby asked me just the
other day about it, but I was at a loss to explain to him what it
was. Corned? How is it corned? LOL

Ah, the bra. Well, it turned out not so good. Even though I
bought the same size as last year from the same store, either
the company changed sizes on me or I'm actually growing
something to put into it. It didn't fit at all! (Clue, Karen Marie,
try it on in the store next time!) I put it on and looked in the
mirror and for the first time in my life was wearing a bra that
was too small. Bwa ha ha ha!

Biv, you mentioned mosiacs and now my interest is peaked!

Mahnot, what were the names of the actors in your movie?
Heh heh heh. (Quote by Mahnot: Don't ask me the names of the actors,
I don't have a clue.)

Back to the garden again. Such a beautiful day!

Hahaha Wuvie - ain't growing up fun? Too bad about the green bra. Try purple...they fit better.

The difference between fritatta and focacia - fritatta is sort of an egg 'pie' with other ingredients, similar to a quiche and focacia is bread. Now, I'm hungry for both.

I have no idea why a corned beef is called corned either. It's really a pickled piece of meat. Brine, whatever. And I was watching Alton Brown and he said that corned beef really isn't Irish at all. They don't cook it in Ireland. The immigrants learned to cook it from the Jewish people because it was an inexpensive cut of meat. Don't know why we always eat it on St. Patty's Day. For me, it's waaaay too salty. One little piece and I have to drink a gallon of water.

See, who says there's no useful information here? I'm sure you were all curious about that stuff.

Central FL, FL(Zone 9b)

Since I drastically limit my intake of cholesterol, I make a fritatta with two eggs and one small carton of Egg Beaters (equal to two eggs). Today I added a couple of big dollops of fat-free sour cream, a handful of fat-free mozzarella, finely diced jalapeños, a few capers, dried dillweed, dried oregano. (Publix Supermarkets here have a store brand of fat-free sour cream that's excellent; you'd never know it's fat free.) I cook it on "convection roast" for ten minutes, then spread some Pace picante sauce (chunky style, medium hot) on top and sprinkle with parmesan and bake another ten minutes. Sunday is my treat day when I have an egg and a pork chop. Sorry, but I don't measure, so "handful" is about as exact as it's going to get. :) I usually never make a fritatta the same way twice.

Wuvie, the floor isn't actually mosaic, but it is kind of similar in concept. The biggest tiles are about 24" square; the smallest probably about 8". I don't know how long the rectangles are. This pattern style is called ashlar, named after a masonry pattern.

KNolan is right: Purple bras always fit better; and if you can't find purple, turquoise will fit second best. Obviously, green is used as shrink wrap.

Millersburg, PA(Zone 6b)

Thanks for the welcome folks. I've been lurking about three months now. My gosh, your recipes sound delicious.
I love this thread - and the diverse group people who contribute to it. ( It does make me feel a little bit like a 'northerner) Hope you will forgive me for that deficiency. I really enjoy the camaraderie here. It is nice to have a place to go each evening and hear people joking, jabbing and truly enjoying each other.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Seeds - I'm glad you decided to join us. We are a pretty 'strange group' and that's what makes it so much fun. Hope you'll join our nonsense and do a lot of contributing too!

Good one, Biv....shrink wrap. Snicker, snicker, snort, snort.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

Welcome se_eds and WUVIE!!

They're a fun group here just don't get too attached. They often have so much fun they forget people when they can't log on for 4 days because their phone company is inept and their DSL line is down and they blame the customer but it's in the phone lines somewhere and when they finally came out, yes it was their problem, but do you think they apologized? Oh no! Not even one word about it being their problem to begin with.

Whew, I feel much better!

Actually Knolan missed me.......Bless you K!

Wuvie, I love your artistic stuff on Trash to Treasure...I often lurk over there.

BillyP, love the Arabian colt, he's adorable!!! They have such poise.

Nate, love the puppy, she is adorable!!

Meezers, we haven't seen your little kitty lately, I bet she's grown.

Fritatta and focacia sound like something one would do behind closed doors, and only in the kitchen if no-one was home. heehee

Love the green bra idea. I've often thought ones undies should be coordintaed with the holiday.

Poor Greta, I hate to see pets in pain.
So, what would anger with enthusiasm be called?

Wow, is the pollen bad here.....a layer of yellow on everything.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

There's my buddy! Welcome back Sista Fly!!!!

I would call anger with enthusiasm a major temper tantrum. And don't they just feel good sometimes?

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

where is everybody?

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

Maybe they are doing the fritatta with their green brxs on heehee

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Good one. I'd like to see a video of that.

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that most of the threads seem to be really quiet in the last two weeks?

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

It seems some are picking up, but many have been slow all winter. The Bf one is picking up, some are starting to see bfs come back.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

Did you read about this new species of big cat they found? Isn't he wild?

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/03/070315075842.htm

Did you see that teen who won tons of cash for his art at the rodeo auction? The title was, "Mama, don't let your kids grow up to be cowbirds'. Isn't that hilarious? It was a pic of a Longhorn laying down with a cowbird on its back. It sold fro something like $150,000.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

What a gorgeous creature! They keep finding new species on Borneo. I read this website daily and I love reading those articles:

http://www.livescience.com/

It's my daily fix.

How cool for that kid!

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

I don't know about anybody else but I've been out with the other half hunting down a less gas guzzling truck with my DH. I just go along for the ride, and take a book with me while he prowls the lots. I think being called 'strange" borders on flattery. Snort! It's bedtime. Gotta go. Will check in tomorrow, I promise, I do . Here's three of the beasties.

Thumbnail by meezersfive
Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

What a cute picture!!!

Ok Meezers, we're holding you to that promise!

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

Aahhhh, it looks like they all get along, she's really getting big. Thanks for the pic!

K, that's a cool site, lots of interesting topics.

DH watched a show called something like The Last Days of Earth. It had various possible events that could destroy the earth or at least everything living. There was a black hole, a smart computer, and one was a volcano. They then asked people what would they do if they knew our world was going to end, say in 2 years. Some women said....have a child.
Isn't that a strange thing to say? Especially if you knew everyone was going to perish?
I couldn't watch it, it was pretty grim.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Was that on the history channel? I've seen a couple of the doomsday shows on there. How depressing. No! I cannot believe any woman would want to have a child if they knew that time was at an end. I couldn't do that to a little one. It's like me and the Lupus....not to get depressing but....I could have had another child but the chances of that child having a heart block was 70% and I couldn't live with myself if I knowingly brought another life into this world with that kind of existence. Best to say I'm happy with what I have and thank the good Lord for my blessings and not dwell on anything further.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

It was a doomsday show. Really sad stuff, who wants to think about a black hole sucking earth into nothing and what it would do to your body. I watched enough to walk away.

They said many years ago when a volcano erupted and killed most of the people on earth that there were only 30 women there to repopulate the earth. The first thing that came to my mind was....boy, I bet those women were popular! Can you imagine the extreme dates you would have? And gifts? Wouldn't you just feel like a queen?
Of course, my luck...it would have been after I had the big 'H'.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Sounds like a .....party to me. Wow, wouldn't it be fun...........maybe, a little????? Hahahahaha! I bet green bras could fit into the story.

It's taking me back to the discussion of being fanned with palms by eunuchs. A little Romanesque.

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

Hello, all. I'm here but I'm not. I'm so tired that I'm not
really sure of what's what tonight. Went on Poop Patrol, spread
Spectracide all over the yard, pulled up 4 black trashbags full of
weeds from the old flower beds, did laundry, went to the Kroger,
and I don't know what else......too tired to remember.

Wuvie, tell your hubby that "corned" means it has been soaked in
a brine, along with various spices, and "corning" refers to the old
process of rubbing meat with coarse salt to preserve it. That's all
I remember. So sorry about your troubles with the green wardrobe
malfunction. I have also seen and admired your many projects
and read your interesting threads.

I'm ignoring the question about the actors, or you might get a testy
answer tonight, I'm that tired and cranky. ROAR !!!!!

Yes, Meezers, that's the movie. Netflix has it. The first 5 minutes are
a bit confusing because some of the actors resemble each other.

Seeds, the only "strange" one here is Knolan. The rest of us are
perfectly sane, mwahaha. As for you being a Northerner, most of
us came from somewhere up North at some time. I'm from Chicago,
and have only been down here a year and a half. The rest of them
are too ashamed to tell you where they're from (snicker, snicker.)
You should see MsBiv's bathroom - it's to die for !

Hi, MsFly - glad to see you back. I missed you too, but I don't slobber
all over the place like Knolan does. I'm just giving you a welcoming nod,
OK? Anger with enthusiasm is called "rage."
WOW, that new species guy is gorgeous, but he looks very deadly
to me. Wouldn't want to meet him in an alley some dark night.

That's a neat site, Knolan. Thanks.
Meezers, Awwwwww - those kitties of yours are soooooo cute !

Well, if I knew the world were going to end in 2 years, I would switch to
a better grade of wine.

Knolan is bound and determined to get her very own eunuch someday.
Has anyone told her what makes someone a eunuch? :o)

Is it me, or is this thread getting loooooooonnnnng?
You know MsBiv has a problem when it gets overly long.
How about a new one, Kristi? We don't want to have her upset.

(((((((( Bama ))))))))
