Or bermuda grass.
Pull Up a Chair XXI
Or nut grass
Or crab grass
Or Sweet Gum balls
or m&m's
Haha....I mean Sweetgum balls.
LOL - i was about to beg for m&m's!!
Hey - I'd be happy to send you all some sheep sorrel . . . grows nicely most anywhere.
Ms Fly said:
"Did you'all notice that Mahnot says she doesn't think about sxx but gives us a link to a cat house?
It's been 23 years since the big 'H' and am still having those annoying hot flashes. Wow, 84, that's depressing."
...and I was reading fast and read "....but gives us a link to a cat house? It's been 23 years
since the big "H" and I had ....." Dear me. No more speed reading !
Rena, that's some silver lining in your cloud. God bless you.
Nice shed, knolan. Wouldn't it look cute out in the yard, fixed up
as a little cottage, complete with window boxes and a rocking
chair out in front? Leave it to MsFly to let you know that she did
notice the weeds. I would have pointedly ignored them and I feel
sure you would have appreciated that. :o) tsk, tsk.
Wonder how Ceejay's doing lining up those speakers.
Sure hope MsBiv and Bama are OK this day.
And I've got campsis radicans springing up all over the lawn.
Again. My daughter had some planted on the arbor and the
darned seeds go everywhere.
I apologize for the weed comment......next time I'll just send you some Roundup for your birthday heehee....is that better?
Oh no, don't want none of that trumpetweed! Isn't that what it is?
Trumpet vine, MsFly, but it's like a weed in the grass here
and roots everywhere the seed lands. I love to see the orange
flowers on the arbor in the summer, and the hummingbirds are
absolutely nuts for it, but it has long brown seedpods that hang
on it all winter, they open, the seeds pop out and root everywhere.
The only good place to plant it is along a back fence, that is
very very far from the house.
Remember that old Saturday Night Live skit with Alec Baldwin....he owned the candy company, 'Schweaty Balls'? That was gonna be my next line after your Sweet Gum Balls but I was trying to behave and went with the m&m's.
Mahnot...hahahahahahaha....yes, you MUST slow down on tha speed reading. I can see where you might have gone with that. Yeah, notice how Fly picked up on the weeds. Well, lemme tell you....I had my TURF class the other night and I know how to fix 'em. That'll show her.
Fly - I like that trumpet vine but it is invasive. It's all over the place around here, except where I'd like to see it. The BF's and hummers love it....
You're such a lady, knolan. I'm honored to know you.
Aaaaww....you're making me blush.
Have ya'll seen the moon tonight? Beautiful. Tomorrow is a full lunar eclipse.
You're welcome - just stating the obvious.
Oooh, I didn't know about the eclipse. Do you know about
what time?
Ohhh...just read a little on it and we won't see much of it. The best is set for Europe. Let's fly there.
Aw, shucks !
Fly to Europe? No, thanks. Prince Phillip says MacDonald's
should be banned, the French don't want to use any American
words, like "cheeseburger," the Italians think we have no style,
and besides, I've already been there. Like they say, been there,
done that, got the t-shirt.
I'm staying put in the good 'ole US of A !
Think I'll go out in the back yard and kiss the ground. :o)
Well, I really am a lady (except when I burp), just couldn't help to think of that skit. It was SOOOOO funny.
I bought 2 pink jasmine's today. They smell soooooooo pretty. I've already planted them on my trellis to replace the passie. I also bout a neat Yarrow. It has different leaves than any I've seen before, almost the color of lamb's ears. I went ahead and planted that in the herb garden. And I finally got the Mexican Flame Vine planted. I wasn't sure how I was going to plant it but I had forgotten about these iron trellis' I bought last year on vacation. They were just sitting in the shed collecting dust. I planted it next to the Rangoon Creeper which I can only pray will come back. I see some new growth at the base so that's a good sign. The entire plant was decimated by the last frost.
Nada...I know you've had a small RU at your house before and it looks like I might be having one for the Houston area in May. How did you go about planning it?
I wonder if it would help to keep the trumpet vine in a pot? I do like the hummers that come to it and the orange trumpets.
I love that Shweaty B. skit! I couldn't have done it with a straight face.
I was going to say something tacky to go with your crab grass but I thought I'd be a lady, like I usually am.
I wish gloves would come back in style.
K, I apologize for the weed comment. I really didn't notice the weeds in front of the shed.
I do love the shed, wish I had one.
With all the phobia going around about germs and all,
it's a wonder they haven't come back in fashion.
Even my local Kroger has a dispenser by the shopping
carts for alcohol wipes to be used on the cart handles.
Oh, I feel so upwardly mobile :o)
MsFly, if you want some, I'll be glad to send you all you want
just as soon as they start popping up. Don't know if you could
grow it in a pot, but why not? You'd probably have to keep it
well pruned so it doesn't get out of hand.
Fly - you know you can't offend me! Talk about my weeds all you want!!!!! Doesn't hurt me a bit, nope, not even a little.
Mahnot....Fly was mean to me.
I like gloves, too. Problem is, these days, everyone wear pants and you can't fix a wedgy with pants when you're wearing gloves. See? I'm a lady....I think about these things. I think we should all wear them. With Billy Bob teeth. That would be special.
I always wipe my carts with those alcohol wipes. Do you see how many babies sit in those things? I've even seen a baby sucking on the handle. I couldn't believe that mom let her do that. When R was a baby and other babies came over to play, I sterilized the toys after they left. All that drool and germs. Yuck.
I noticed she was being mean to you, dear child.
Don't worry - we might send her poison ivy, mislabeled
as trumpet vine.
Oh, hi Ms Fly, I didn't know you were here, LOL.
Naw, I wouldn't do that and I know you're really fond of knolan.
Hey, do you think she'll wear her Billy Bob teeth for the RU at
her house?
gotta run daughter needs a hand Ciao for now
What a precious picture! Hope...that's adorable! I hope you're having a restful weekend.
Awww, hope, you 're adorable!
I'm thinking of wearing gloves and a mask to a birthday party I've been invited to tomorrow. I might even throw in my Billy Bob teeth. It'll be with about 20 4yr olds. Do you think they will think I look weird? All I can think about is what germ I'll be coming home with. How long does a flu shot last? Maybe I should have gotten another one, can you get 2 in one year? Too bad it's not dress up, I could go as a surgeon with the gloves and mask...it would be the outfit.
We were watching Flags of Our Fathers. It's very graphic, I can't watch it. War was and is so awful.
You'll have to do better than that switharoo...I know my poison ivy from my trumpet weed.
Look at this beautiful black swan pic!
http://davesgarden.com/place/t/698164/
Wow! Those are pretty pictures.
Holy cow - thanks, Fly! I usually watch the birdwatching forum pretty closely, but I hadn't checked tonight. Amazing photos for sure! I got some pretty good ones of a Great Blue Heron today that I will post later, but they pale by comparison to Kennedy's!
Hope, you are absolutely darling - thanks so much for sharing the pic!!!
(This is embarrassing - I spotted a few cracker crumbs on my keyboard . . . can't imagine how they got there . . . so I turned it over to get them off and hundreds of crumbs fell out . . . it's amazing the darn thing would even work!)
Kristi, I had to laugh when you said you are a lady except when you burp - my mom burped the other day and didn't even notice . . . you'd have to know her to get the full impact of this, but I had never - and I do mean never - heard her burp before!!!!!
Murmur, I have never ever heard my mother burp or fluff either. Not ever. I think I've had tis discussion. Dejavu.
Crackers in the keyboard, hahaha....a snack attack?
Fly, what rose is this 'Zephrine Drouhin' that I've seen you post about on other threads? I tried to look it up in the plant files but I'm obviously doing something wrong. It's a climber, right? I want to see a picture of it. I'm looking for a good climber.
Biv - I've got this old lamp that I picked up at a garage sale for $10 and need to do something with it. The base is an ugly mint color. I believe it's porcelain. It looks and feels like it. It doesn't match a thing I have but it said, 'buy me and do something with me'. That was two years ago.
That climber is pretty amazing in Texas. Mine hasn't gotten black spot and it has few thorns, and actually it's kind of neglected.
http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/354/index.html
I hope biv has some good ideas for that lamp, I like it. Don't you have that color in your pillows?
What's so odd about not burping or the other? I haven't. How many times do I have to tell you guys....I am a lady daxxit!
I would love to see a black swan in person, I probably would take a bazillion pics of it.
Fly, when you are almost 87, you will shock everyone by burping or "the other!"
Oh, me too - if I saw a black swan in person (if I could stop crying from the sheer thrill), I would take more pictures than I could download!!
Ohhhh......that's a really pretty rose! I'm going to have to find one.
well "it" (the other)happens at horrible times like when someone comes looks at what you are in the store oh my word .. and if its bad one its so mortifying.. or standing in line only one checking out . oh you want to sink to the floor.
I love the turquoise lamp its breautiful. of course spelled it all wrong.
I started 3 pots with seeds. boy that is feat for me now a days..
I have the 4 kids till Monday eve.
Have great week end.. blessings everyone.
Hello, hello. Just checking in here. Cool and sunny by me,
with a nippy breeze.
Twyla, what a cutie you were ! Love the photo.
You hardly ever see kids in a pretty hat anymore.
The 104 year old gardener was out in front the other day,
down on her knees with a little hand trowel, planting I don't know
what, but she had on a prairie bonnet, white with little navy blue
flowers all over it. Very sweet. She probably made it herself.
There's a Zephrine Droubin (sp?) growing here outside the fence.
It gets too much shade from the tree that overhangs it, but when it
blooms, it's absolutely stunning. I'm gonna prune the tree back a bit.
It probably needs a good pruning too, as it blooms on new wood.
I've got to remember to feed it.
Cool lamp, knolan. It would go great in a room with a lot of browns.
If you didn't want to paint the lamp, put new fabric on the shade.
Sometimes that makes all the difference. I do that when I get sick
and tired of the shade, or just want to redecorate. It's very easy,
and a cheap way to use up some beautiful fabric.
Ms Fly - WOW, what a beautiful creature that black swan is.
Thanks for posting it.
Murmur, LOL, I turn my keyboard over about every two days and
gently tap it on the desk. You're so funny.
There's a DMail from Bama - her hubby goes for treatment on Monday,
and has become a night owl, which means that the poor girl probably
isn't going to be getting much sleep. ((((((( Bama ))))))
I get really testy when I can't get enough sleep. No, wait - I'm always
cheery and pleasant. What am I talking about ?
Ceejay and Ms Biv must be running around like mad women, what with
their various projects right now. HELLO, LADIES !!! Thinking fondly of you.
Connie must be busy with school. BP - where you at?
Rena, how's the puppy hunt coming along? I keep checking Petfinder.com
for a friend for Huckle, but somehow just haven't seen THE ONE yet.
It's such a final step - once I bring them home, they never go back so I'm
a bit leery of bringing someone hostile home. Huckle is declawed and is
a real sweetie pie. I keep checking the declawed ones, but there aren't
that many to choose from.
Ceejay said she's going to Africa in the autumn, but she didn't say where
in Africa. I'm so jealous, but not why you all think, ha ha. I LOVE their
fabrics, especially the blue and white indigo prints, and the browns too.
Soooo gorgeous. Kenta cloth is to die for.
I'm so excited - DrDon is gonna send me a donzen rain lilies ! Never saw
one before I moved to Texas. I just love 'em ! When I get some dough, I'm
gonna buy a bazillion !
Just call me DUMB ! I bought a hollyhock stencil on eBay. I had planned on
painting some on the fence by my daughter's and then putting some flowers
in front of them. I THOUGHT the description said 6 Ft. high for the stencil -
it's not - it's 16 INCHES high ! DUH !!! Don't know how I made that mistake.
Oh, well. I got it cheap so I can't complain.
I heard something really odd yesterday on the news. A boy in Alabama by
the name of AJ, threw himself in front of the collapsing wall at the high school
that was hit by the tornado. He did it to save the girl who was stuck there.
She is alive, but he died to save her.
The bus that fell off the ramp and killed several baseball players yesterday
had an injured ballplayer that was speaking on TV and thanking God for
saving so many and saying that it would make him reexamine his life was
also named AJ.
Ciao for now. Hope you're all having a lovely day. See ya later.
Hi all! Laughing as I catch up again!
Hope, you're adorable! I'm glad you posted your pic. I haven't seen it before.
I love that black swan!! After blue, black is my favorite color!
Knolan, gotta love the lamp!
Mahnot, DH likes to be on the computer so I have to get off after a while. I was on for 5 hours yesterday and had just finished my watched threads. Doesn't leave much time to ''talk.'' When he goes to work I get on from 1:15 pm to 10:30 pm. Yep, secretary spread is no mystery here!
The news just gets more depressing doesn't it. Maybe that's why I don't watch much TV.
I'm glad Bama's keeping in touch with you. I don't imagine she has much free time. I'd want to sit by his bed and just talk. I can't believe how fast this has happened. I hope she's able to get some sleep.
Love ya Bama! Take care of yourself!
Don't pay the ransom...I got away!
Just kidding...I'm baaaack...for now. DH is resting peacefully after I slipped him a micky. He has been refusing his pain meds today becuase he was tired of sleeping all the time. However, as soon as Bear gets home, we have to roll DH and clean him up...so I gave him a pain pill and told him I would hold the second one till right before Bear gets home. The goal is to have him really floating six inches above the bed when we have to roll him becuase it is so painful for him. They added atavan to his pharmacopia the other day....he really ought to be in LaLa land by the time Bear gets home..... He is fighting off the pneumonia thanks to breathing treatments and an antibiotic that cost $140 for ten pills. I'll be glad when the medicare comes through (knock on wood).
We seem to have been under a protective bubble during the storms. Didn't even lose cable, and the power only went out long enough for me to jump out of bed, grab the lantern and get into the sick room to change out the oxygen to a manual tank. But the phone lines were really screwy. Every time the wind gusted (which was like every few seconds) the line would go dead. We had 70mph gusts and none of my plants even so much as lost a limb.
There were some really inspiring stories in the paper today. One lady who lived across the street from the school that got hit was making herself some lunch when the wind literally blew her into the closet, then blew a big heavy piece of furniture against the door so she couldn't get out. Next the tornado came through and ripped the roof off her house and collapsed all the walls except for the closet. That is definitely a God thing. Even if you were an atheist, you would have to acknoweldge that one.
A pregnant teacher grabbed a student who started to panic and was about to run from the building. The teacher threw herself on the student. The student only suffered some cuts and burises. The teacher suffered two collapsed lungs and multiple broken ribs...but the baby is unharmed.
Several teens had checked themselves out of school and were headed home when they heard about the tornado on the radio. Instead of going home, they went back to the school to help thier classmates. They were already pulling people from the debris when the emergency personnel arrived.
People can be so amazing. After hearing all the horror stories post Katrina, of terrible things people did, it is really refreshing to hear that people are basically good and will do the right thing when needed. The communities are all pulling together to do whatever is needed to help those affected. Some of the families can't afford to pay the funeral expenses for their kids who died in the tornado, but the community is pitching in and paying the tabs....not to mention opening their homes and hearts to those who have lost everything. It is so unusal for us to get storms like this....however when they list the top ten worst tornadoes, one of them is from Webb, which is just east of us. This storm will make the top ten. It was two football fields wide and was an F3. There were also smaller tornadoes in the area. One hit just north of us. But, of course, the worst was the big one that hit the high school. They had planned to dismiss early, but while waiting for buses, the storm came up faster than expected, so they decided that rather than have the kids out on the road, they would keep them in the school in a 'safe' place. Unforutnately, one of the hallways was among the worst hit parts of the school. We were fortunate to have only lost 8 students and an elderly neighbor.
Well, got to go give DH his LaLa meds. Bear will be home soon and I need to have him floating before we roll him. Anyone wanna come lend a hand?????
OOh...forgot to tell you guys...the cows are back for their Spring grazing in the pasture next door. With all that lush pasture grass, they are fighting over my pampas grass that hangs over their fence. I have four bushes, so there is plenty to go around, but I guess one bush is better than the other three and they are havign a field day with it. I sit out on the porch getting some fresh air and can hear them chomping away. Guess I got that cow drive through after all, huh?
The cats keep sitting on the kitchen table, staring out the window and chirping at the Giant Moo Kitties.... It is always a novelty for them when the cows first come out. In another week or so they will be ignorning them. But for now, it is exciting.
Still waiting on Bear to get home. Wasn't sure if he worked till 5 or 6 tonight, but he should be home any minute. I have given DH his LaLa meds and he is sleeping.
Hiya Bama, good to hear from you!
Glad the storms missed all of you and hope you are well.
So tragic about the HS, very sad.
It is refreshing to hear about people being kind to others and helping them when they are in trouble.
K has a horsey drive thru and you have a cow drive thru, how lucky both of you are.
We just watched Sling Blade with Billy Bob Thorton, he was riveting....highly recommended if you haven't seen it. It's about 10 years old.
I survived the 3 year old birthday party, but it did wear me out. There were about 15 little people and so full of energy. They had a screened in thingy that you jump around in and a bubble blowing machine, play-doh, stamps and aprons, pizza, Strawberry Shortcake cake and ice cream. It's funny to see a child with their first birthday party, T. almost cried when they sang Happy Birthday while she blew out her candles, and all those kids and adults handing her all those cool presents. I think it was a little overwhelming for her.
But she handled it with style...one of her gifts was a glittery fuzzy Tiara, which she quickly put on her head and proceeded to act like a queen for the day. She opened her gifts in record time, casting them aside as soon as the paper was off, and on to the next one. I didn't know what toys are 'in' or desirable so I got her a big purple Care Bear. It was really cute and I thought when she opened it she might just carry it around a bit or spend a moment looking at it...nope, it was on to the next one. Ah well, it matches her room.
good to know you weathered the storm ok Bama...
fly - yes had BC in right breast.. they took out a lump and on my six month after visit they found in that 6months cancer had grown in my left breast. That took two more operations to get it all. So far so good.. been nearly 2 years ok. Due for my next checkup. gotta call and make an appt.
Knolan - I just tried to keep up on who was comming.. make sure they had directions. set up tables for all the people so everyone had a table to put their stuff on. Put up a large tarp cuz it was sprinkling. Extra table for door prizes. I used my kitchen for the food. I made tea and coffee, provided plates and utincels. Made up stickies for everyone with their real name and their DG name. I think that is about all...
We went around today cutting down all the big grasses to the ground and trimming the butterfly bush, removing dead sticks from all the lantana and sunflowers. Then started working on the Big Oak in the middle of my deck. Well found out that the ice storm did some damage after all. Lost THREE large limbs. Didn't realize it because all three were the tallest and all three were sitting on other limbs so until I started trimming and saw all the dead leaves and followed them back to the broken end, I didn't know about it. I know have a bruch pile taller than me and really big around, and we didn't get everything done today.
Still searching for the pup... went to two rescues today but didn't find the perfect pet. Did get bit by one abused chi that just has too many problems for me to solve. Cute little guy but even if I wanted to help he just needs more than I have right now.
