WOW - that's some "gate." That's about like saying that
Helen of Troy was "pretty." It's a spectacular and really innovative
use of common materials. That guy really knows what he's doing.

So glad to hear Ms Biv and her DH are safe and well. :o)

Just got back from my daughter's, and I heard on the car radio
there was a 4.3 earthquake in Northern California, and the
Hospital in Americus, Georgia, has been hit by a tornado, and
Georgia is in a very bad way right now. What a crummy day.
There was a DMail from Bama, sent about 7:30 PM, saying to
let you all know they are still OK, but very severe storms are still
in the picture. She was worried about Bear driving home in the mess.

Sox? Men are always thinking about sox?

Gotta tell you - my husband's sox used to smell so bad that when
I threw them down the laundry chute, the cat would dig them out of
the pile of laundry and go bury them in the litter box. I had to throw
out lots of sox.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

I have a red passie but it froze down with the last blast we had. I dont know if it will come back or not. Frankly, I'm not too sure I care because the darned thing never bloomed once.

Yeah, I had a yellow Lady Banks. I kept the white one. I wish I had kept the yellow instead.

What a great idea for the shed. I need to take a picture of mine and have you give me pointers. I never got HOA approval to have it but my Lady Banks has hidden it so well from the front. I'm having trouble deciding whether to plant my double blooming, hot pink morning glories to grow up and over it or the flame vine. I have so much fence that I want to cover with vines. I don't want to see fence in my front yard or my back yard at all.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

I'm glad she's okay, what a day!

Hahaha sox

That reminds me of how sometimes my cats will carry their little toys and put them in the food dish. Isn't that strange? Is it to feed them? Keep track of them? Sometimes they put them in the water dish.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes, we're all glad they're okay. I'm glad Bama dmailed you, Mahnot. Thank you for letting us know she's okay. A bad day for weather all over the place.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

The thing about those MG's is they will come up everywhere. They're easy to pull up though.

So, your shed is in the front yard?

Can you plant both?

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

Knolan, I'm sure that it would be really beautiful, the fence all
covered with blossoming vines.

There was a woman who lived near me and every summer her
fence on the corner of the street was covered with Heavenly Blue
morning glory. Nothing else - just the Heavenly Blue. Traffic would
slow down just at the sight of it. So beautiful.

Is the Lady Banks rose the one that can get to 40 or more feet high?
I thought it only came in pink. Is it very thorny?

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

I've got to watch Greta Louise. She likes to dunk her
babies in the water bowl, and the toilet too if the lid is up.
Bad Greta !!!!

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

Dave has a new feature on DG. I think you'll like it.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

Eewwwww, I wonder why. I don't think LB comes in pink, not sure which one you're thinking of. I remember The LB being almost thornless.

Those purple, blue and bright pink MG's are stunning, a fence covered in them would be a show stopper.

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

Yeah, Ms Fly, we all loved it. She had a wooden privacy fence,
6 feet high and about 125 feet long - all filled with Heavenly Blue.
I can still see it in my mind's eye.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

I like the big pictures!

I'm going to try and catch some Z's, nite all, sweet dreams, may tomorrow me less stormy.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Fly - the shed is in the back yard but it backs up to my fence in the front and over by the pasture. It's about 10 feet away from my horse winnndow.

Mahnot, yes, the Lady Banks can get that tall if it's not pruned. http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/29284/ It has no thorns and only blooms in the spring. Beautiful clusters of tiny white or yellow rose buds. No pink, no scent but absolutely gorgeous when it blooms. It blooms only once, in the spring time. I'm wondering if mine would survive a transplant. That would be pretty to train to go over the shed with other vines mixed in. Mine is planted in the front yard and hides the shed behind it. I could just move it on the other side of the fence, no....there isn't enough room for me to get back there and dig a hole. I'll take a picture tomorrow...I'm sure I'm not explaining it very well.

I'm turning into a vine Momma. I have seedlings of the snail vine, orchid vine, white pea vine, and full plants of the 2 passifloras, the mexican flame vine and the rangoon creeper (praying that will come back). These are the morning glories that I'm going to plant in the back of each of the new raised beds to cover the fence (I've sprouted 20 from seed and that should give me pretty good coverage). They're ready to go in the ground now.

http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/52398/

Fly - these are 2 of the seedlings I sent you. ;>}

Goodnight, Ms Fly. Sweet dreams.

Knolan, the MG is gorgeous ! Very dramatic.
I love that soft creamy color on the Lady Banks.
Just how long does it stay in bloom? I'd like to try one here,
but you can't always believe the catalogs.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

It actually starts blooming, sporadically, in mid March, has heavy blooms in April and then slowly fades away by the end of May. It takes a good pruning, right after it blooms, for the blooms to produce well the following year. Everyone that sees it just says, "ahhhhhhh". It has pretty foliage throughout the rest of the year. But, if you fail to prune it, the poor thing goes WILD!

I can send you some of the morning glory seeds. They sprout super fast. I nicked the seeds with a nail clipper, placed them in a wet paper towel and put that in a sealed baggie, placed the baggie in a sunny window. In two days they had rooted and were ready for planting. That fast. They have to get in the ground tomorrow or they will become too spindly.

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

I thought you were supposed to put the baggie in the fridge.
That's what everyone says and what I've been doing, with
very poor results.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

I've never put any of my baggies in the fridge. I suppose some bulbs need the cold but I'm not sure about seeds. I'm not far enough along in my MG class yet to answer that. Ceejay and Fly would be better equipped. Personally, I've always placed mine in a sunny window and have always had excellent results. Sometimes, a lot faster than I have wanted. The morning glories are an example. Within 2 days, the roots had really traveled and some had buried themselves into the paper towels. We're talking 2" roots. I didn't use anything special either. Normal tap water, a paper towel and a baggie. Voila!

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

WOW - that's spectacular results. I'm gonna try it.
If you have a few extra seeds, I would love to have them.
I'll send you a SASE, and thank you very much, Knolan.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Don't worry about that, Mahnot. We're among friends here. I'd send you seedlings but they're so tender I'm worried they might not make it. So, I'll send seeds instead. Like I said, just nip them a bit with a nail clipper. I was amazed at how fast they grew. I wasn't expecting to have to do anything with them for at least 5 days but after 2 days, if I had waited any longer, they would have been ruined. Those double blooms are so pretty.

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

Thanks a bunch, Knolan. That's very kind of you.

You guys wanna see much ado about nothing?

I read this earlier and fire was blowing out my ears. For two reasons.....I've met Bubba and his wife and they are two of the most outstanding individuals I've ever met, I can't wait to see them again. For someone to attack his post like that, well, I was angry. Secondly, why did this person feel the need to post at all? Isn't this something that, if she didn't agree with, would be better off just passing through? She must be a very angry, lost soul to feel the need to attack like that. I certainly didn't care to hear the opinion. It took everything I had not to comment. If I had, I'm sure I would have probably gone too far. I've done that in the past and have learned to bite my tongue. But, !!@$A&!A**^@#!

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

I've never met Bubba, but he reads like a swell guy.
I posted, but not what I REALLY wanted to say. :o)

Baaad Mahnot.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

I read your post and you were very well behaved. I could not be on that one. Perhaps my feelings are best left for the garbage can. It's a lack of tolerance on my part that I need to overcome. It just made me angry. That's the mildest word I can use.

If you can't say something nice...don't say anything at all. Well, rather than sewing my lips shut, perhaps duct tape around the fingers would suffice?

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

ha ha ha ha ha Roll of duct tape on the way. :o)

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Please send the extra thick roll. ;>}

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

LOL, you're soooo bad !!!!!

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

That's really true. I'm bad to the bone. That song was made for me. LOL.

And...LOL...and LOL...and LOL....and LOL....and LOL.....and LOL (think I'm driving anyone crazy yet?)

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

Not me. I'm old and, therefore, immune. :o)

Well, I'm off to bed. Gotta let my doggies out one more time,
then I've got a date with Morpheus. Hope he doesn't stand me up.

Goodnight, all. Sweet dreams. Hope you are all safe and warm
and snug in your beds.

(((((((( BAMA )))))))) Keeping you in my prayers tonight.

knolan, where did you get that seed for the MG. I LOVE that one... I just have the stupid purple one.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Good morning. I just read the thread with the story - I'm with you, Kristi, I really had to restrain myself from writing because I had some mighty nasty thoughts going through my mind!!! Mahnot, what you wrote was perfect!!!!

Fly, I'm not particularly fond of Photinia, but the hedge was here when I moved in - it's probably 60+ feet long. It gets diseased here, too - the only thing I do like about it is it gives me privacy outside the guest room window. My next door neighbor loves the darn hedge and does some pruning (albeit mainly where it might block her view), but she also waters it too much which leads to the blackspot type stuff it gets. She knows that, but can't seem to stop herself. She has a huge expanse of lawn which she waters all the time as well.

Despite all the posts made last night, I can't seem to think of a thing more to say. So I will read my other threads and see if I can get anything done before I go to work.

Have a great day!

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Nada - believe it or not I picked them up at Walmart.

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

Good morning. Sunny and cool here today - in the 60s.
Just checking to see if there is any news.

Greta and Angus are chewing their bones on the grass,
the birds are chirping in the bushes, and my back is giving me
a problem again. Ugh.

Murmur, you oughtta cut the neighbor's hose some night. :o)
I've got several photinias here planted right next to the house,
and I have to keep pruning them in order to keep the place from
looking like it's being taken over in some deep woods.
There's one between the bedroom windows that grows up to the
roofline, if you let it. I prune it every autumn. I'd like to get rid of it,
except that the cardinals love to nest in it. I guess it's the perfect
cover for them, what with all the red tips.

I see there is no news yet from Bama, and I hope they got through
the night safely. Hope MsBiv and her DH are OK too.

Have a lovely day, everyone.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Good afternoon all! Power went out on me last night so I decided I'd better just stay off the computer. We just replaced the satellite reciever Wednesday, and I had it on too. Luckily it didn't get toasted again. I shut it down too.

I read everything and got caught up. I laughed a lot!

I've been on posts with Bubba and I think he's pretty cool. I've had June days myself. I have a neighbor who won't talk to me anymore because of an irrational moment. No big loss. They aren't my kind of people anyway. But it would have been better to have stayed away from everyone that day.

I'm officially thru with menopause!

I'm glad Bama is keeping in touch. I miss her, even if it is a selfish thing to say.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

BP - I'm jealous. I'm still waiting to start. I just want it all over.

Fly....here's the shed. First pick is from the front yard, 2nd pic. is in the back.

The ONLY good thing I can say about having breast cancer and having to take meds afterwards is that I don't have monthly's and I don't have meopause. Best of BOTH worlds.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

And I admire you for finding the good in a tough situation!!!

Billy, I'm probably as done with menopause as I'll ever get (still an occasional hot flash, but I know my aunt had them until she passed away at 84!). BTW, I gave up my wine because I liked it too much also. And after 12 years, I still miss it, but not enough to screw up!!

Kristi, great shed! What fun could be had with that (not to mention a place to keep tools besides my garage which is also my shop!).

Mahnot, I would like to get rid of my photinia, too, but to put up a fence (which I would definitely want!) would cost me more than I could even consider . . . darn!

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

Nice shed and a what a crop of weeds ya got there!

Did you'all notice that Mahnot says she doesn't think about sxx but gives us a link to a cat house?

It's been 23 years since the big 'H' and am still having those annoying hot flashes. Wow, 84, that's depressing.

Rena, I didn't know you had BC, so sorry, hope everything is okay now?

I miss Bama too

Boy, it's tempting to ask for some of those rain lillies, but I've begged for so many other freebies.....irises, brugs, milkweed, I figure I ought to lay low for awhile. I need to find something that grows well here and everyone would like some of and then give back. Too bad there's not some redeeming quality in fire ants...I could send you all some. lol
