Stay warm Andy! Make some french toast for me... Mmmmm...
Daily Musings, page 8
Andy, that's great - you'll be all prepared to enjoy the storm. Sometimes it's awesome to just watch MN at her work. It's great you put Sarah first in the to-do list. They are good at sleeping in, but it helps if they exercise first. pictures, pictures. in the Daily Pics thread.
never heard of [the term 'bombogenesis'] is that the scientific for thunder-snow?
Either way, interesting times. Nasty combo that rain in between, makes the snow really heavy.
They're predicting quite a swath of 1-2 ft of snow fall. I just hope folks in that area stay inside.
I'm on the other end of Massachusetts. It's also my day off! 12-18" predicted. Snow-sleet-snow-blizzard winds. We'll have 1-2" per hour coming down on Wed. AM, then the blizzard winds start and we're predicted to get another 6" Wed night. Wondering if I'll be able to get to work Thurs AM.
We are supposed to get 2-4 inches of snow followed by sleet & freezing rain, followed by rain that will freeze.
Blooms, Bombogenesis is a term that an MIT smarty coined for when all the ingredients come together for a storm to 'bomb out' or deepen very quickly. This is when thunder and lightning along with high winds occur. It happened December 8, 2005. Kinda scary, actually. Sarah was cowering at my feet, lol.
Andy P
Awwww, poor girl! I hope this storm isn't so bad for her. How nice of you to get her out and exercizing today.
Andy I heard the same thing here in Maine...the weatherman said "Thunder" and he had my attention! Not often we have T&L in the middle of a snowstorm, it's scary and thrilling all at the same time. I've loaded the fireplace w/wood, put candle's in the holders just in case, and am now contemplating what's on the menu for tomorrow. Off to search my freezer and cookbooks, after all... I have ALL day to cook.
Stay safe and warm everyone and have a Happy White Valentine's Day!!
we were supposed to get 12-18" last night. I looked out and it's hard to tell, but we didn't get nearly that. probably 3-4". I just wish it would get up at least into the 20's.
Happy Valentine's Day to everyone here and do what the pixie says ;0) SAFE & WARM
Well Gram, I see you got a beautiful orchid for V-Day....saw the picture on the voting forum. That is just gorgeous!! The colors are wonderful, I like how the darker colors almost swirl. I got that rose bush I was asking you about. DH went ahead and ordered it when I was in town getting some last minute storm supplies. I hope it does well and Park's sells healthy plants. I know they have great seeds, this will be the first time ordering a live plant from them. Here's the rose if anyone is interested: http://www.parkseed.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StoreCatalogDisplay?storeId=10101&catalogId=10101&langId=-1&mainPage=prod2working&ItemId=45475&PrevMainPage=gateroses&scChannel=Roses%20Companions%20AS&OfferCode=T1H
It's snowing pretty hard here, we have blizzard warnings in effect and it's expected to snow all day into the night. I think I'll be on DG and cooking alot today. Unless of course the inch of ice takes it's toll and we lose power.

Ice storm here. Walked out to feed the stray cats this morning and *heard* it snowing! Had a steering wheel gripping moment climbing a slippery rise on the way to work - but I made it. School is cancelled so I get a night off. Snow Day! Something that I never got in So. California!
Happy Valentine's Day everyone!
we had a mix of snow, then sleet and then rain. It's supposed to go back to snow. All it's doing is making travelling a joy and a half!
I can still see grass sticking up through our "Valentine's Day Blizzard". The roads are supposed to be bad, but I don't care cause I'm home sick.
Pretty rose Pixie!
I 'heard' the snow this morning, too. The worst is not expected until later this PM.
It's freezing rain now. Very light with an inch of snow/sleet on the ground, the car is frozen in place.
PS, Does anyone here visit any MSN Groups?
Andy P
No where's near warm enough here for freezing rain...9F when I got up this morning. I don't think it 's getting out of the teens today. that's ok. I'd rather stick with straight snow. I don't envy you guys. this is safer.
pixie, so the DH takes a hint well, eh? good luck with the rose...it's beautiful!
I won't be leaving the house today. working from home & staying warm. I'm at lunch :0)
Good for you Gram.
My gutters have filled up with sleet rolling off the roof and now it's raining hard. The gutters are overflowing. I hate gutters, except for over doors.
I have an appointment at 4 PM, I hope it lets up before then. There is 2 inched of slush out there and it's going to get very cold tonight. Do I go out in the rain to clear it or wait for the rain to melt it? I'll wait, lol.
Andy P
We have around a foot of snow here. It sounded like sleet but it was still snow. My DBF is snowblowing now because there's no telling when it will stop! Still coming down heavy here.
Ugh. Just shoveled the path. That snow is heavy! I'm glad it's done. My son is happy. No school today. He's out on the hill sledding.
Andy, that is quite a weather word! I told DH I wouldn't have been suprised to hear snow thunder from the way the sky looked. It didn't. We said practically the same thing. DH had a sick day, so let 'er snow! It was a fizzle for a blizzard, and no, that isn't Snoop Dog's language! I was ready for that Bombogenisis!
Pixie, your rose is romantically gorgeous!!
AYankeecat, good for you, feeding the ferals!
Dave, that's the worst kind of blizzard! One that can't cover the gradd. Pitiful.
We had 4* when I got up. I shoveled what blew back in yesterday and dug a neighbor's car out in case she has to go somewhere. I also scooped from the house to the car, and road. 5 minutes after I got home the bus came for her kids. They're handicapped. I felt I did a good thing.
Happy Valentines Day!
Billy, from a mother of a handicapped child...you did a GREAT thing! (((hug))) You just made her load a little lighter for today, that was very nice of you. Hope you had as nice of a day as you gave her!!
Gram, it wasn't really a hint, it was more : "What would you like for V-Day?" so I took him to the website, pointed and said "That". End of story. LOL
Now the weather...it has been snowing since I got up but we only have about 9" at the moment. We had sleet for the last hour or two but it's changing over to snow again and the wind is starting to pick up.
Photo was taken at 4pm before the sleet started.
I almost needed a boat for my 4 PM appointment. Heavy rain over melting snow/sleet and clogged catch basins.
I had to have my left nostril cauterized to stop the morning nose bleeds I've had off and on for a month.
Andy P
Pixie, thanks! Sometimes you wonder if they might feel you're butting in. I've never met her. They just moved in a month ago. No one dug her out the last snow and I just felt I should. Luckily she seems to be able to stay home most of the time. Love the snow picture and and the birds! The cardinals eye, that is so neat!
Andy, That is my fear. I have a slightly bloody nose in the mornings and I worry that someday, it will start and not stop. I hope it didn't hurt too much.
Good job Billy. For shizzle!
ROTFL! Wondered if I was the only one with MTV. I prefer non hip hop myself.
Billy, good for you for shoveling out your neighbor. It's deeds like that that make good neighborhoods.
If you can raise the humidity in your home it will help with the bloody nose. A cold compress on the bridge of your nose helps to stop the bleeding. Mine were substantial nose bleeds. Regular tissues were nearly useless.
The 'repair' was painless but it feels all clogged up now and I'm not allowed to blow.
Andy P
Good to know. I'm glad it didn't hurt. It is dry in here, but we think dry is better than some of the wet years we've had. Humidifiers breed too many germs and I'm sort of a germaphobe? Correct my spelling if it's wrong.
We woke to the ambulance at our elderly neighbor's a few years ago. His wouldn't stop either. She had white bedroom carpeting and he got up in the dark, walked to the bathroom, then turned on the light. She was on her hands and knees scrubbing the blood out when the 1st responders came. She just gestured over her shoulder and said ''he's in there.'' Later, she said, they probably thought I really cared. She did tho. They're a happy couple.
After hearing Billy's story, Andy, I'm glad you got your nose fixed. LOL... when do you get to blow again?
Yeah! to Billy for helping the mom with the handicapped kids.
Pixie, I love your photos.
Billy, you need the humidity in the winter. The super dry winter air id damaging to you and your home. Yes, a gusher makes a mess.
Harper I can blow gently in 2 days, regularly in a week. Sleep on 2 - 3 pillows, no heavy lifting, blah blah.
Andy P
Maybe headless shots are when we don't admit to knowing the kid? He's barely 2 1/2. Big boy.
That's neat. I have a print screen button too. Now, since I'm computer illiterate, what exactly would I be doing?
What is a MSN Group?
You can also paste it into your Paint program. Then you can highlight the areas that you want and only copy them...
Billy, that's to take a picture of your screen, like what I did to display the tutorial. Some times you want to save that screen, it's easy this way.
MSN groups are like the Yahoo groups, small private sites under the Microsoft network. If you have a HotMail address, you can join MSN groups.
Anita, yes, I send the captured screen image to PaintShop rather than Word.
Andy P
Thanks Andy! I always wanted to know how to do that.
I meant to reply about the MSN groups, but spaced out on it. Sorry. I was gonna say, No, but do you know of any good ones? Are you sure you have to have a hotmail addy?
Harper
I see. Outlook Express has newsgroups. You can see I do very little with the computer. So much to learn, so little time.
Is print screen the same as copy and paste?
I think we already establishedthat you are an old (as in long-time) rocker not a rapper, Billy. I'm not a hip-hop guy either, although there have been times I wanted to bust a cap.
Is the headless picture to keep faces off the internet?
Yuck, it was exactly 31.5* F all day yesterday so it never did decide whether it wanted to be snow, hail, rain, ice pellets, freezing rain, melting snow or what. Not a good day for driving. Today I think will be a lot of ice. Yikes.
xxx, Carrie
The screaming tires this morning told me that perhaps there is alot of ice out there??? brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
it is .6F this morning (please note the decimal point, as in six tenths). we didn't get as much snow as predicted, but I am sick of this $#@@^!## cold
Billy, so sorry your grandson has no head, but I'm sure you love him anyway LOL
pixie, wonderful birdie shots!! I still have my new feeders by the back door. never got them filled and out.
Andy, my mom had that trouble with nosebleeds and had to have it cauterized. she gave up blowing her nose for life. do you use that saline nasal spray? it really does help, but you have to use it several times a day faithfully. get one of the moisturizing ones. nothing medicated...just saline.
