New Forum Please? "Agastaches & Salvias"

Hebron, KY

Salvia 'Hot Lips' on September 19, 06 at 10:49 am. This is in a different flower bed and in the backyard. I love this Salvia! Got it at local Lowe's (they had some gallons of it) and 'stupid' me, I only got one pot! What was I thinking?! I'm getting at least one plant of it in the mail and if Lowe's offers it again, I'm getting more of it! I'm hoping it survives the Winter and the 2 week 'deep freeze' we've had.

Here it is in the flowerbed (same date and time). There is an 'orangish' colored Agastache (not sure at this moment which one) in front, Milkweed 'Soulmate' in back, behind the Milkweed is Agastache 'Tutti Frutti' and the purple flowers are Verbena Bonariensis.

As I'm looking down the flowerbed, Salvia 'Hot Lips' is on the left behind the 'orangish' colored Agastache. Same date and time.

Behind the Milkweed is Agastache 'Blue Fortune'. I have other Agastaches and Salvias in this bed too.

Here's a Salvia that I planted (with wood mulch around it) that is a beauty, but isn't what it suppose to be. I ordered it last year as Salvia 'Furman's Red' and it will be replaced free for the correct one this year, but I'm going to keep this beauty. I just hope it survives the Winter. There are some various Echinaceas behind it. I have loved it all season as it bloomed and look beautiful! I took this on September 19, 06 at 10:45 am.

Nice plants--it's easy to see why you want this thread.

A beautiful Agastache that I got last year and I absolutely love is 'Hot To Trot'. It's a Lazy S'S Farm Nursery introduction. It's beautiful! They didn't offer it this year and I don't know when they will, but I hope it survives the Winter here in zone 6 temps.

Here is one photo of it on October 22, 06 at 2:18 pm next to Salvia 'Indigo Spires'.

How often do you water newly planted agastaches?

Hebron, KY

Since they like a 'drier' soil, but need to get established, every few days I gave them a good drenching to get them established and would watch them closely so as they wouldn't die with too much water or not enough water. When I say good drenching, I would use the hose with those hand held 'water sprayers' that you have up to 9 different types of water functions to choose from (jet, shower, center, soaker, etc.....). I would use the shower function on a very light spray of water to gently spray some on the plants, then stop to let it soak in, then do it over again and then do the whole process over again for awhile each time I watered new Agastaches.

Here's Salvia 'Rosea' on July 2, 06 at 9:24 am. Quite a bit of a color difference.

Thank you. I am planting them at a drier time of year. If they get a good start, I hope they can handle the summer rains. There's still a lot of daily, strong sun even during the rainy season.
