Gee, pix. at least you tried. I gave up about 10:30.
Coffee, Latte or Tea?
I guess I've always been a bit of a New Year's Eve bore - I was in dreamland by 9pm. I didn't even stay up for Y2k! I figured if the world as we knew it was gonna crash, I would find out in the mornin! Gosh I sound old. I'm really only in my early thirties...
Hard to put a good spin on that Songs. I'm not a night owl, but I'm up later than that a lot ;)
Since when is 9 PM early to go to bed?
Don't feel bad, I didn't make it to midnight either. I crashed around 11:30p. My normal bedtime is 11pm.
Isn't it amusing that 11 PM is when the young crowd goes out for the evening?
In my defense, Al...I wasn't feeling that great on New Years (I won't admit that it wouldn't have made much difference if I was :o)
I'm a morning girl for sure.
I'm off to bed...it's waaay past my bedtime!!!
Me, too, to dream of celandine's demise.
speaking of sleep..I slept terribly last night. Seems I have a visitor in my attic! What is it lately with my house and critters!!!!??? I just ordered this product http://www.ratmousezapper.com/ as I am too squeemish for a snap trap and don't want to use poison. It's amazing how the little buggers get up there!
When my 37 year old daughter was a baby I heard noises upstairs on Christmas Eve. We waited until 12/26 and investigated. There was a huge pyramid inhabited by wrens, Blue Jays and the exterminators said squirrels had built in originally. Eerie!
Good luck Anita! The exterminators removed nine huge bags that now I'd love to have for more compost.
Anita, isn't it time for another kitty??
Make sure you get a kitty that doesn't pratice "catch and release" like Wallingford! He actually bit me this weekend because I wouldn't let him go and try to catch "his" rat again when he heard a rustle in the leaves and I was carrying him back inside the house.
You don't like the snappers Anita, actually I think the newer versions are easier to set. Back when I was a littl' shaver I use to trap mice to sell to a trapper as bait for his trapping - man that was good money for a kid.
It's not the snapper that bothers me - its the gore that follows the snap! I would love to get another cat, but too many people in my family are allergic to them. [pout]
Anita,
Ever consider the cosmos is trying to tell you something? Maybe its not going to let you get away from conquering this fear.
Just a thought.
Well, I'm trying not to hear that suggestion. At least it's not a snake!
Happy New Year everyone! Sorry I'm a little late. I did stay up past midnight on New Year's Eve. I was playing poker (speaking of cards) until 4 am! The winner forgot to cash in his chips, so I broke even. He he!
Pirl, how's the celandine's demise? I've got the dreaded creeping charlie. He's all over the place. Now you've got me thinking that maybe I can erradicate it while it's still warm. Maybe it'll never get cold. I hear azaleas are blooming in Central Park.

pirl, he's still cute as a button. can't believe he's walking already!
Oh, he's so cute! Walking at nine months - that's fantastic!
So, your celandine is gone. Congratulations!! Woo Hoo!! Yippie!! You must feel so glad.
My entire yard, including the grass is covered with the creeping charlie. It's especially bad under the deck where it's hard to get to. You must have a lot of free time now that you have no more celandine. Will you please come and do mine? (Big toothy grin)

I know exactly where Mahopac is!!!!!!!!! You're not far from Yorktown Heights. That's three hours from here. Just don't look for me anytime soon!
I used double strength Bayer for the Aegopodium field and the rear portion of the Houttuynia - next big killing project will be the ivy.
pirl - ever try smothering the buggers with layers and layers of cardboard? I actually got rid of pachysandra that way at my old house without digging and pulling. Mowed it to the ground just before Thanksgiving and then piled layers of broken down cardboard boxes on it with layers of anything that would be compostable on top; a la Lasagna gardening. I piled at least a foot high - but by the summer I had lots of worms and compost and only a sprig of the dreaded pachy here and there. Of course you don't get bragging rights for piles of "trash".
I could try it for the ivy but while I admire your tenacity and the ability to look at it for as long as it took to kill it, I couldn't bear seeing it (Celandine covered with cardboard) from the kitchen table. In the back I could easily avoid seeing it yet there is something so grand about ripping ivy from trees! I bought some weed cloth, guaranteed for ten years not to allow weeds to penetrate and will be putting that down any day now but need the mulch to cover it.
Pirl - I deal with weeds for a living and I can say I'm not familiar with your celandine. My nasty speading weeds I have like that I try to keep up with and not let them spread in to desirable plants. Quackgrass I hand paint with Roundup if it gets too close to a plant to spray it.
Charlie's cute - does he like your pets?
You do NOT want to know Celandine - believe me! I can't believe how the tiniest (thinner than a strand of hair and about an inch long) roots can be showing green when they're underground by an inch or more!
We first saw that it had become a "problem plant" in spring and then we were already on the roll with gardening so it became just one of those back burner items but I'm thrilled to be done with it.....for now......until spring.....and maybe more will emerge.
Typically, from all my previous Lhasa experiences they don't like children. Harry, however, doesn't know he's a Lhasa and gets along fine with Charlie and vice versa. However, my daughter is the fearful one and tries keeping them apart, which never works.
OH - I didn't say I wanted it.
