Ouch! LOL!! Pirl, what photos do you owe us?
Harper
Coffee, Latte or Tea?
You go girl!!! Garden away!!! It's what we live for, for heaven's sake!
I agree! Tomorrow will be a shorter day - only getting to 40 but for Sunday it's supposed to be 45 so I'll be out both days.
I'm trying to think of what we did all fall besides cleaning up the vegetable garden, doing over a lily garden, a daylily garden, cleaning up another Japanese iris garden, planting more JI's, moving glads, ripping out annuals, etc. Oh yes! We went away for a few weeks!
Harper - Al is eventually going to get photos showing I managed to persevere and remove all of the horribly invasive (for me) Celandine.
Oh! Five hours worth of gardening! Yahoo! I agree with Anita: You go girl!! Good luck getting rid of the Celandine.
40's sound nice pirl, we struggeled to reach 25 today.Actually it was Fri. , it's past midnight and a balmy 14 degrees. Went to dinner & a movie w/DH tonight, nearly froze my nose off and almost skipped the movie. Glad I didn't, went to see "Blood Diamonds" it was a bit violent but a good movie none the less. Made me look at my diamonds a little differently....ya got to wonder, are THOSE blood diamonds?? To be honest after seeing that movie, I really wouldn't want to know.
I have a beautiful diamond ring but it slips too much on my finger so I haven't worn rings, except for special occasions (and then it drives me nuts), for a long time. When a neighbor and I sat in her garden, going through handsful of soil, searching for her lost wedding ring, it made a big impression on me so I don't wear them outside.
Arlene, you can have the jeweler put on ring guards. This should stop the slipping. This works especially if you have arthritis/swollen joints and need a larger ring to go over the them.
Thanks, Anita, but that ring has been at the jewelry store a few times for adjustments. My knuckles are large but I don't have arthritis.......yet. I'm weary of the drive to Rocky Point and back for the jeweler and he's the only one I trust. Maybe, once we have a blizzard and I have more time I'll do it.
I'm waiting for the sequal: Blood Cubik Zirconium.
Dave, that's because you're cheap.
Another 6 hours of weeding yesterday but with two layers of clothes, topped off by an old raincoat and with a folded over piece of carpet for my knees and legs. I feel removal of the Celandine will be the story of my life!
pirl, I hesitate to suggest this, but can't you spray that stuff with something? I'm not big on chemicals, but after 2 years of constant struggle with nutsedge, I gave in and asked Al for advice on what to spray it with and I finally feel like I've got a handle on it. and it's a good thing because in the meantime, the horsetail completely took over one of my beds and I'm now seeing it other places. so now I can concentrate on that.
Thanks, gram. It was my understanding that the products like Finale, Round-Up and the Bayer one should be used on new growth. My thoughts ran along the lines of removing all I could and then being ready with the Bayer in April.
If I hadn't done so much already I'd be tempted to try but it looks like two more days will do it.
Now, who can make some carpet jeans for me?
Al, how pretty! a frame and everything. did you take a class from Nancy?
pirl, I know the weeds have to be actively growing, but I'm just picturing you out for 6 hours in the cold with your little fingers frozen like the little match girl and thought you might wait for spring and zap it then.
hey, is it too early to propose a toast?
to all the good gardener's in the NE forum...may all your blooms be bright, all your butterflies flutter, all your pictures be in focus, and may you have a safe and happy New Year's Eve
HAPPY NEW YEAR, my friends!!
Happy New Year to all, even Al. I'm dreaming of a white blizzard. One more day to go and I'll be done (with this area - there's another in the back!) but tomorrow rain is in the forecast - but 55 degrees. I need a wetsuit.
No pirl, you need to relax and enjoy your Anniversary!
Happy New Years to all my DG friends, may your blooms exceed your wildest expectations, and rain only when your sleeping.
Happy New Year everyone!
Maybe my New Year's resolution will be to learn the names of my weeds or does that just make the battle more personal?
Dave, your weeds are all named Bob
I like it! Reminds me of the movie: "What About Bob?" (the therapist couldn't get away from Bob!)
Gram - I have been working with my old PhotoShop programs lately - mainly for humor of course.
Pirl - 55? I'm hoping you get clobbered this year again with snow, 40 here is great.
thanks for the well wishes, I certainly hope the new year brings all the hope and promise only a gardener could have.
I can still work under the big pine - rain or no rain.
Happy and healthy New Year to all.
Happy New Year everyone!
I'm working on my seed database today. I also plan on putting away my Christmas decorations. I have a few African Violets that need splitting and repotting as well. I'm thankful it's raining as it will keep me home and hopefully productive!
I'm loving the rain. A few loads of wash are done, my desk is spotless, and I'm going back to my garden plans to update them. The weather outlook, after today, is just wonderful. I might actually be able to sip coffee on the terrace this spring instead of toiling.
I'm having family in for dinner today. It's the last day of my vacation and I rather wish I was planting seeds or repotting orchids, but I decided to invite my favorite aunt and uncle to dinner instead. My aunt is 85, still pretty healthy and very active, but I have to realize that I won't have her forever. So I opted to spend New Year's Day with her. She married my uncle when she retired at 65 (first marriage for her). He's a pip (retired school teacher who loves to challenge everyone, and very good company) and I am very fond of him.
Pip is like - he's a real character. I couldn't locate it in any of the online dictionaries, Al, but it's a compliment.
Nice fireworks and lit ball.
Very thoughtful of you, gram, and I'm sure the invitation is more appreciated than you will know.
Al, do you know scooch? It's like that only classier.
Pip: 1) a back-up singer for Gladys Knight
2)those little dots on a pair of dice
3)gram~a~girl's uncle
no to scooch
Yes to 1 and 3, didn't know 2 - interesting, many nights in a bar to learn that one I bet
You got that right. Ah, my mispent youth.
Do you know what the jack of the "right" suit in cribbage is called?

I don't play cribbage, but if you do and like pickled eggs then you'll fit in with any northern WI bar.
Is it the knave...dave?
I don't know knave for this but it's called a nob (actually "his nob". If the jack is cut: "his nib")
Any other Useless Informational Needs, I'm available.
I used to like to play cribbage, but I haven't in years. Don't know if I remember much about it. Used to play a lot of double-deck pinochle too.
I like both games too and rarely get to play. Although, I never played pinochle with a double deck.
It makes single-deck boring, Dave. I have no desire to play anything but double-deck anymore. If you ever have an opportunity to learn it, jump on it.
thanks for jumping in here and explaining things to young Al, guys. I've played a lot of double-deck pinochle, too. but somehow I never got any better at it. I'm just not a card player. and now that I've lost my 'focus' gene, it's a lost cause altogether.
I do love fireworks. wish I could have seen some. we didn't even stay up 'til midnight.
Don't feel bad Gram, DS & GF stayed home w/the old folks on New Years Eve and my eyes closed somewhere between 11:54 and 12 midnight. I almost made it!
