November BINGO, let the game begin!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Now for a quick bonus call....

'Deer Trail'

The reason for no guessing on this one is that I think the label is wrong. Also, I can't take another round like the last! LOL

The pictured plant was labeled 'Deer Path' when I bought it from VG.
Deer Path (J. Gehr) Double ivory bell/blue fantasy. Dark green, plain. Semiminiature trailer

Here is the description which made me think I had 'Deer Trail' instead when this one bloomed.
Deer Trail (6414) 11/05/1986 (P. Harris) Single orchid. Medium green, plain, round. Semiminiature trailer

Currently, Violet Gallery's catalog lists both a "Deer Trail" and a "Deer Path Trail," making me think perhaps there is a third unregistered variety in the mix. However, the First Class database now has an alternate photo added to it for 'Deer Path' -- a photo supplied by the Violet Gallery! -- which is definitely my plant.

The shape of the bloom is definitely a bell, but there is no blue fantasy, and there is a definite pink blush to the bloom. I am thinking that the real answer is that VG and I have a *sport* of 'Deer Path'.

What do you think?

It's pretty, regardless.... ;-)

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

lol Good call, cedar!!! hahaha

I'm definitely going to have to put Tiger Trail on my "wants" list!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I think I might have to see about getting 'Deer Trail' from them the next time I go.... but I'll have to watch my labeling carefully!

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

Thanks for making the last call sooo easy...I was still trying to recuperate from the Tiger Trail call! LOL This is a BLAST!! Of course neither was on my list....;(

'Deer Path' is known like lot's of Fantasy bloomers to Sport.
Back a couple years ago I sent a friend two Deer Path true bloomers and he had all ready bought 4 Deer Path they all Sported.
I'll have to check the Sport list see if it is on there.

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

Here is the picture I have of deer trail..it is a pretty plant! Isn't it funny how they can sport and the flowers can be such different hues sometimes...

Allison, I do hope you sleep some during the day! You are on this thread at all hours of the day. I noticed a lot of insominiacs on here! LOL

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

If I go by the shape of the blossom, I'd say my "Deer" trailer looks more like 'Deer Path' (bell) than like 'Deer Trail' (orchid). Good idea about checking the sport list, Allison!

It's almost noon, so I'd say it's high time for another Bingo call (and I'll bet you all would say so too)!

Our next call is this lovely... It's blooming again right now, just brightening up my shelf with a big bouquet of long-lasting blooms!

Isn't this just the perfect pot for it?

Plumberry Glow

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Yes, indeed! :-)

Only 9 calls left on the list... I keep waiting for a "BINGO!" LOL

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

I LOVE that one..it really does GLOW!!!

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

Drats...too late. ; ) Okay...hope I'm not bogging you down with too many questions, but...

The baby leaves look really variegated but the mother plant doesn't look that way...and I noticed that on the first plant you called, too. Why does it do that? Is it a lighting thing?

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

Here is a picture I found of this one...I just love it!

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

I see what you mean about the leaves though...good question!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Variegation does vary from plant to plant and even from season to season. There are a lot of factors such as temperature -- a lot of AVs lose their variegation in hot weather. You're right that little plantlets often show extra variegation, even to the point of showing no green at all... I think that may be because they're still able to rely on the mother leaf for photosynthesis. The mature plant in the first photo does have white around the edges of the leaves, but some of those plantlets in the photo went all green as they matured... If anybody has one from me, I'd be curious if it's regaining its variegation in cooler weather.

(Zone 1)

Perfect "Plum" Pot for that plum beauty!

It's on my list ... I'm now up to 10 .... somebody must be real close to bingo by now! Wish it was me.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh Janet Hubby always got up around 4:30 AM to get ready for work and we go to bed early. I like to wake and go on the computer and watch the moning show Life around the Bay !
But sense he has not been able to work we have been waking all weird hours. Sometimes he makes coffee has a snack and we go back to sleep. :)) Last night we had loud thunderstorms and rain for like 5 hours lighting coming threw the windows kept me awake also.
We take naps all day we just woke from one. :)

Thomasville, GA(Zone 8a)

I am really learning a lot about these beautiful avs. I don't have any of them but I will be looking for them. We had friends who were in Winston Salem and I loved to visit them and go to the place off a side street and down a little hill to see their violets. They had beautiful ones. I can't remember the name but I think it had Carousel in the name. I envy all the knowlege many of you have. I have many hours of work to try and learn just a little bit of what you know. Thanks for sharing.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Kami, the lady who runs Carousel of Violets is about to close it down (after I think it was 30+ years)... Her husband's health has continued to deteriorate, and for all I know he has already passed on. It's sad. As of September, she was still in the store for a few hours most afternoons, but she's not propagating as much as she used to -- many of the plants there are in her collection but not for sale. I was there at the end of September and would've purchased a bunch of things from her if we had be heading straight home rather than to the beach for a week or so... I did get my 'Iced Amethyst Show-off' strep from her, because I just couldn't resist it.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Time for our next call!

This little charmer has wonderful, deep red blooms! I've got a couple of beautiful little plants that I hope will bloom in time Valentine's Day gifts.

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

No, I was asking you a question, but decided not to ask. lol

Thomasville, GA(Zone 8a)

I was there several years ago and she had the biggest av I have ever seen. She had a plastic frame under it and I know it was 12 to 15 inches across. THe leaves were flat on the form and the flowers were beautiful. It actually looked almost unreal. She said it was in her collection and not for sale. I have never seen one since then as large. Thank for the name. I'm sorry she is giving up her business. I just Googled Amethyst Show off and it is exquisite. What a "show off". Glad you got it.

Lindenhurst, NY

HI Critter. I can't believe I still need 4 more for bingo.

Your pics are great. And I love the pots. So where did you get that purple pot with the plumberry glow in it? And just how many av's do you have??

Maureen
