Kami, I have a few "large standards" that get that large and then some... I probably should use a leaf support on some, especially 'Buckeye Bellringer', which has tendency to grow out "droopy" for me. My favorite "Big Blue" noid is seldom less than 16 inches across, often close to 20. It has the top shelf of a corner plant stand all to itself! Unfortunately, I wasn't paying much attention to it this summer, and it got a significant double crown, not to mention that it's trying to crawl out of its pot again... I am trying to determine how drastic to get with it... Fortunately, I have potential replacements growing -- it's so touch and ever-blooming that I always have plantlets of this one started to give away.
I think that purple pot came from a local garden center where I get a lot of my pots (not to mention a lot of plants, although only a few AVs).
How many AVs do I have? ROFLOL... Jim keeps asking me that. I have no idea how many plantlets I have growing, but I think I have something like 150 varieties or so, including some noids... I need to update my "haves" list again on this thread, http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/581728/
All I know is, I have a full light stand with four 48x18 inch shelves, two crowded 6 ft x 12 inch light shelves, probably another 15 plants on that corner plant stand in natural light, and there's at least one flat of plants that I can't find a place for... I think some of the containers with leaf babies and suckers will have to go down into the basement this weekend. And this is *after* I brought quite a few plantlets along to our plant swap last Saturday... OK, I came home with some too, but I think my box was only half filled on the trip back. (Yes, that was fun, and I'm still smiling about that afternoon!)
November BINGO, let the game begin!
So that brings out another issue...when do you know if you have finally crossed the line into "too many plants?" haha I brought in some outdoor plants and Doug, who always used to encourage my *habit* and even buy me more, has said to me..."Um...are you going to be keeping ALL these??" haha So I offered the ones I could easily let go of on freecycle and he seems happier. But it makes me wonder how much farther I can go...lol
I still can't believe we don't have a bingo...I will be off line for most the day tomorrow...so Critter...call some of mine...LOL I will check back in late in the day tomorrow...I have to go with a friend for surgery...have to be up and out by five in the morning..so I am turning in now...I am sure I am going to miss a lot! I hate that! Have fun, can't wait to see what happens while I am away...;) Goodnight...
Janet
Only need to more for BINGO!
Crossing fingers.
Wonderful photos by the way!
Oh my,I thought for sure there would be a winner tonight while I was gone.It has got to be anytime now!! Good luck Ccino42 and everyone!! : )
Critter: I have been meaning to ask and keep forgetting .... don't mean to sound dumb, but what is a Noid? Keep hearing it mentioned on the AV threads and really want to know!
Thanks!
Lin
p.s. I can't believe someone doesn't have Bingo yet .... I'm still 5 away! It's been fun y'all!
LOL, I'm sure Jim would say I'm waaaay over that line! Must admit, he's fairly tolerant, although he did recently threaten a spider plant that was throwing babies into "his" space above the couch... I rotated it, and there is peace in the family room again.
Janet, I hope everything goes well tomorrow... I'll keep your friend in my prayers and keep you in my thoughts also while you sit in the waiting room (no fun, even if you're feeling completely well).
It was another rainy, yucky day here... So I think we need another bonus call!
My friend Kim (Bluekat76) gave me this one last summer when she stopped by the Violet Gallery. It did the strangest thing... the leaves shot outward, and it got very leggy, like this...
Grape Slush
HEY! You didn't wait for the "glamour shot!"
But you did get the right answer! :-)
Oh, Lin... "noid" = "No Official ID" eg, an unnamed variety, often a seed-grown plant from a box store, sometimes a lost-tag plant.
When you have a chance, browse through the FAQ and some of the links in the "sticky" thread at the top of this forum... There's another great thread on "other" gessies, also!
Wow that really is amazing how full and pretty it got.The 2nd pic is really pretty.I love the varigated leaves. : )
I got it right???Yippy!! Not on my card though : (
Edited to say.I just checked again and I do have it on my card!!! Thats even better!! : )
This message was edited Nov 16, 2006 11:30 PM
Yea! It's on my card! I need 3 more though!
Whoo hoo!! It was on mine!! Would you believe I only have 3 left?? I thought for sure I'd never even get this close. But I'm sure someone else has just one by now...if not a Bingo. ; )
Oh, I thought it would amuse y'all to know... when we got down to 10 choices remaining, I switched to a 10-sided die. Then I switched to an 8-sided one. After the next call, I'll switch to a 6-sided "regular" one. If there are 4 calls, left, I'll get out the 4 sided die again... and if we get down to 2 with no Bingo, I'll flip a coin! That way, I'm not endlessly re-rolling when I hit numbers that have already been called.
Previously, I'd been using a 4 sided die and a 10 sided die -- if it landed on 4 and 8, the call was 8, if it landed on 3 and 8, I rerolled, and if it landed on 2 and 8, the call was number 28 on the list.
Jim is responsible for this system, too... he suggested it might be easier to get out an old set of gaming dice than to deal with drawing slips out of a hat.... just thought you'd be amused by my "system!"
Good night, everyone.
Very ingenious idea using dice.Hmmmm I wonder if I can send esp's to the dice?I'll be blowing on them in my dreams tonight! LOL
I can't believe no one has bingo yet. Some must be very close with only 7 left to call.
I'm surprised there isn't a call yet today! Critter, where are you??? It's almost 8 am, pacific time! ;o)
I slept in after being up late with a nasty combo sinus/migraine headache. I think I'm all better this morning, and I intend to enjoy this lovely sunny day!! I've got my laptop and a cup of coffee here in the wicker rocker in the morning room... I can enjoy the blue skies, and I'm surrounded by the intoxicating fragrance of my lemon tree and jasmine in bloom, plus half a dozen different scented geraniums.... "oh what a beautiful mooooorrrning!"
Here's today's first call... another cutie-pie in a cute pot! I'll have to see if I can get an updated shot of the one upstairs -- it's boooming again, and you can see some of the variegation on the lower leaves.
With so few remaining on the list, I figure IDing the last calls should be easy. ;-)
Lil Bit o’ Irish
Yes, indeed! Don't you love its green pot??
Oh critter the green pot is quite fitting! : ) It really shows off the bloom nicely. Its really a pretty one! : )
Edited to say: Your morning room sounds wonderful.Nothing like a little of natures aromatherapy.I can almost smell your plants.Marvelous : )

You said that this was first for today but it is listed under the 16th. So is it the 16th call or the 17th call?
I don't think the calls from teh 16th are listed in the 2nd box above.
sorry for the confusion... actually, since I posted 'Grape Slush' after midnight, it's the second call for the day... and I got the date wrong when I was editing because I forgot to post yesterday's calls at the top last night... all is fixed now (I hope).
lol I don't think makshi and you live in the same time zone. ; )
yes, but I really did put the wrong date on those calls at the top of the thread.... fixed it, though! I'm not going to go back and edit that post where I called 'Lil Bit 'o Irish' the first call of the day rather than the second... or I'll run up against my "edit" limit and won't be able to add calls to the top of the thread again until tomorrow!
Critter, hope you are feeling better. I am just getting over a sinus infection......nasty headaches! Your morning room does sound wonderful!
Susan I will watch it for you......Hope DH is o.k.
Sure... just deputize somebody to post if you win (Dmail them with your remaining call that you need)... to avoid a conflict of interest, it might be best to ask somebody who has lots left on their list or who isn't playing.
Hope your DH heals up quickly and completely!!
And thanks, mgh, I'm doing *much* better today! Trying to catch up on some things, but I think I have to go dig now... ALL my bulbs arrived at once (UPS and USPS) this afternoon! I've planted this many (and more) bulbs before, but 800 bulbs all in one pile looks a bit intimidating... but imagine all those blooms next spring!! At least most of them are "little bulbs"... I think I've got maybe 150 that need deeper holes (daffs, oriental lilies, and a handful of crown imperials)
I'll check back later!
:-)
Well, I'm glad we've got that fixed -- thanks, Lauri!
I just got my computer fixed and checked this thread. I need you to call _______ and _________ so I can say BINGO!! Please and thank you very much :-)
Hi Critter, Lil Bit o' Irish is adorable and even better in it's green pot.
Do you have any pics of your plants from a distance so I can see the whole container they are in and the displays or plant stand you have them on? I ran out of room in my windows and only have south window sills which have too much sun.....so I'm thinking if I totally rearrange my living room and get a new couch, etc. ... I can squeeze a plant stand in, in front of the south window so the sun won't be as strong....
Have a good weekend,
Maureen
Bloomaholic, I need ______________, ______________, and ________________ :)
Maureen
I agree with those calls!! haha
What's that reddish one near the back called??? She's awful purty.
That one caught my eye too : )
Edited to say; LOL I have just spent the last half hour going thru AVSA photos and I still can't figure out what the dark red one towards the back is.It is so pretty.I give up!! : )
