November BINGO, let the game begin!
Yippee!! Brownies for me........brb....Lauri
That's # 8 for me! Yippee!
Thank's Critter ... those photo's you are posting are just gorgeous! And, a BIG Thanks to all y'all who are posting on this forum! I've had a couple of AV's over the years, and never thought much about them, except that they are pretty plants. I am learning so much from all of your posts! Never knew there could be so much info in one place! AND ..... I never knew there were SO MANY different AV's !! Just about every photo that's posted makes me want one of each!
Lin
Oh Lauri- you deserve some big honkin brownies for holding cards for us (and two months in a row)! With sugar and choco chips on top (sorry...I don't like sprinkles so I don't put on them on my imaginary foods, even if it's not for me). haha!!
She's a beauty...but not on my card!! Come on, critter!!! lol
I think we need a bonus call because it's Monday!
This is one that I haven't been able to find a description of anywhere, so I'm just posting the name with no guessing. :-)
'Ruffled Romance'
It's another one that I've had for several years, lost the tag but "remembered" the name. Actually, for a while I thought it was "Ruffled Sheer Romance" but decided I might have borrowed the "Sheer" from the previous call.
I've searched the FC database for names with "Romance" and/or "Ruffled" in them, to no avail. There is a 'Ruffled Red' with a description that matches, but no photo, and it just doesn't seem like one that was likely to be widely distributed (hybridized by an AV society in 1975).
Ruffled Red (2679) 05/20/1975 (Union County Chapter AVS/Max Maas) Semidouble dark red star. Plain, ruffled. Standard
So, if the photo rings any bells, please chime in! Otherwise, I'll continue to consider it a "lost-tag noid" that may or may not be named 'Ruffled Romance'.
The bloom color really is a lovely deep crimson, very like the 'Pow Wow' I saw blooming at the Violet Gallery.
Here she is... 'Ruffled Romance'! (?)
Wow!! Thats a beauty Critter!! : ) The name Ruffled Romance is very fitting. : ) Almost makes me weak in the knees : )
Did someone say brownies??
Yummm.....we should have a bingo game with home baked goods :-) Any bakers out their?
Critter, I've only gotten 10 so far. Someone must be really close to bingo...
Ruffled romance is so pretty. Critter, do you have your plants in grow lights or natural light?

Hey Maureen:
I used to be called the "Cookie Lady" at the University where my DH teaches! I used to bake for his students, our Basketball team, Cheerleaders, Pep Band, and fans at the B'Ball games!
About 15 years ago we took a trip with the team to a tournament in Denver and I baked 72 Dozen! Chocolate Chip Cookies that we took on the plane! I had shopping bags full!! The players loved it and the pilot heard the kids talking and said the plane couldn't take off until the cookies were on board! That was my biggest baking extravaganza ever! Or I should say marathon! .... I baked for 4 days straight! I bake all my cookies from scratch, but brownies are me an Betty Crocker! LOL. Everyone loves those BC "Peanut Butter Brownies" .... they are yummy!
I could trade some home baked goodies for AV's! LOL ... Or I'd be glad to donate cookies as a prize to a winner in a game or two! (Just not 72 dozen!) @ 5 dozen is one recipe!
Oh, BTW, I now have 9 on my Bingo Card! (seems I got off-track here!)
Lin
Janet, thanks for finding that photo! If that is 'Ruffled Romance' then I have something else... The leaves have never shown a hint of variegation in the several years that it has lived with me!
Oh dear, I guess it's an unknown after all... but it sure is pretty!
Lin, I use Betty Crocker brownie mix too! Try substituting half a cup of unsweetened applesauce for the veg. oil... you'll never notice the difference, and a little less fat means you can indulge in two, LOL. I've also been known to put in a liquor rather than the water called for on the box... Triple Sec (orange), Kahlua (especially with a dash or two of cinnamon), etc.
Oh, and for a couple of really great cookies recipes, check out my thread here, http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/561548/. It's almost that time of year again... I do my marathon baking around the winter holidays. :-)
Critter: Thanks for the link! I can't wait to make a batch of Jim's Favorite .... maybe I'll do that tomorrow and surprise my hubby with some fresh baked cookies! I haven't baked in awhile and it will get me in practice for my Christmas baking!
Lin
Was reading through your link, critter, and just need to know...who gets the "test" cookie?
You guys, if you REALLY feel like baking, I may be willing to sample a few projects...a few "test" cookies...for you. I tell ya, sometimes it's rough being me... ; )
Critter, it is beautiful, whatever the name is....I just found that picture trying to ID all of the ones left on the list, in the wee hours of the morning on morning. I love the red! I was expecting the "Valentine" one to be red, that is why I remembered it so well, because it wasn't red...lol You guys are making me hungry talking about cookies...I don't keep sweets here because I will eat them till they are gone! But umm umm brownies and homemade cookies sure sound yummy!
*dangling a cookie in front of Janet*
I am going to bed and dream of cookies dancing in my head! LOL I hope you can't gain weight just dreaming...That is one good thing about flowers, they look good enough to eat, but no fat! I had three juice popcicles....just didn't do the trick...have a great night...ladies!
Janet
Do you even have to ask who eats the test cookie?? LOL How will I know if it's "right" if I don't test it personally? Well, if DH is standing right there making puppy eyes, I do split it with him...
We're having family here for Thanksgiving weekend, so I'm thinking I need to crank out a double batch of both of them next week. The two kinds of choc. chip cookies look very pretty together on a big cake plate... They disappear quickly, too!
OK, this is totally off topic for this forum, but hey, it's my thread.... LOL
Here's a big platter of both kinds of cookies, jumbo sized, that I made for a charity auction last year, about a batch and a half of each recipe (yes, we kept some that didn't fit on the plate)... They went for $50! ;-)
Money well spent, it looks like, too!!! My GOODNESS!!!! I'm trying that cookie recipe out this weekend!!!!
whoops, Maureen, didn't mean to ignore your question... Most of my plants are under lights, but some (including "Ruffled Romance," just blooming away again now) are in bright indirect light near south-facing windows.
I am SOOOOOO glad I went to bed BEFORE you posted that platter of cookies! They look delicious!!! Where are the recipes? I have to get them to my middle daughter, she loves to bake, as does my son...lol...but he is here for the time being and I don't need him to bake anything, I will eat them! But my daughter takes baked goodies to work, to her Daddy's office, and to children she teaches, at church etc...her husband loves for her to TEST things on him too. I used to bake a lot then my children were younger, but I most enjoyed making cakes from scratch, cookies just seemed to take too long because of the fact that one batch made five dozen or so... I would get tired of having to check on them and take them out and put more in...I know, I bore easily...but I just liked to do the work and be done...LOL My favorite to bake though were homemade Oatmeal, right off the box with lots of pecans....oh my, I would eat those babies up in no time! LOL
Wouldn't you know the one night I don't have insomnia you all stayed up and had a pajama and cookie eating party!! LOL
Nancy, that is just too funny! I think this is the first thread I have been on that so many people are UP at all hours...it is fun!
Ding..Ding...Ding... and the answer is..Buckeye Evermore Freckles??
Buckeye Evermore Freckles
I don't have the foggiest which one it is, but I want one! It's Gorgeous!
Lin
dar n dar n dar n lol
Edited to put a space between the r and n...just looked too close like something else!! lol
I had JUST gotten on...that was pretty good timing, though!

CJ I saw your post before you put in the spaces and I thought "Dar n she must really be upset" LOL Funny how things look sometimes after you type them : )
lol I saw it and thought...THAT'S not what I typed!!!
Goodness, you are quick on the buzzer today!
Yes, indeed, that's the one! I *love* the 'Buckeye' series, especially the ones with red-backed leaves... the plants just glow, even when they're not blooming. I had very few blooms on my AVs over the summer (there were some issues with too much light & with watering early in summer), so I've been happy that I got so interested in different types of foliage!
So far, I've seen blooms from 'Buckeye Bellringer', 'Buckeye Boysenberry', 'Buckeye Cherry Topping', and this one. But I've got plantlets and leaf babies of several others, and I just got a new leaf of 'Buckeye Incognito'. :-)
Many of this series are "large standards." To give you an idea of how big it gets, here's a photo of the first bloom on my 'Buckeye Boysenberry' last July...
Edited to say....I guess I really jumped the gun that time LOL

That is beautiful! I missed the chance to name it...was in the shower...Dar n ...LOL
But I did know what it was...so I am at least getting an education!
Janet
LOL at CJ and Nancy.... am I sensing just a bit of competition?? hahahaha
Lin, I'm glad you're enjoying the photos! I will try to remember to put down some 'Buckeye' leaves in January... it's easier to send standards when they are smaller plantlets, so I'm trying to start mostly minis now.
Here's a baby Buckeye...
Wow they really do get large Critter.I wonder what the largest diameter of one is? I couldn't have too many of them on my plant stand.Thats for sure.Love their foliage! : )
Critter you are really starting an addiction with this Bingo Game...lol I think we are all wanting everything we see this time...the pictures really have added a wonderful touch to this game!
