Texas Heat - part 2
r those real frogs??
April, you should move to West Virginia that way you could at it to your list of the most expensive insurance states. I moved from WV to texas 17 years ago and My auto insurance went from 300 for 6mths to 500 for 6mths. I moved back to WV 3 years ago and my insurance went from 500 for 6mths to 900 for 6mths. I moved back to Texas and it dropped back to 550 for 6mths. I was told at the time that WV had the highest rates in the country. I told them that didn't make any sense going from a hugh metro area with high crime to the middle of nowhere in the country where people still leave there doors unlocked when they go on vacation.
Scoolie I agree- why should a more rural area like Johnson County be more expensive than Tempe AZ, big suburb of Phoenix, University town w/ lots of young, inexperienced drivers, fair crime rate? and WV, gee how many auto accidents do they have there? LOL.
You know, if I were a believer in conspiracies and who knows, maybe I am- I'd say these insurance agents were in league w/ one another and taking advantage of the buyer! No, insurance compaines wouldn't do that, would they?
lol Sticks . . . well he sure seemed real when he poked his head out of the little hole he made next to my strawberries and I let the water hose run down it. :D
What a look huh?
Naaaaa April . . . doz guys wouldn't du nut'n lak dat now wuud day?
gd...what a great photo....
GD I love that accent! Hear it loud and clear!
yup me too!!
lol thanks Sticks . . . I should send that in to America's Funniest Critters . . . I guess the video camera would have servered better in that case though?
Whuuut ??? I don't no nut'n bout type'n wif no hick'ccent :P
April, I'd say that the majority of the accidents are between 1 vehicle and 1 or more deer.
You are a man of many talents!
Yeah scoolie those dang deer one little drink and they are all over the road! Don't know why they give them licenses anyway!
I was coming back through Tennesee on I-40 one time late at night and there was a spot where I saw a deer by the road, and then another. It ended up being a whole heard of them about 10-15. I'm glad they didn't decide to try and cross the road as I was going by. Although it would have been kinda funny later on if they had. I could just see the headlines. Man manages to hit 10-15 deer at once. Breaks world record.
Scoolie you know that's not how the headline would have read, more like: 15 attack man and his car!
Bambi herd ambushes man!!
Sheila I like that one!
Bambi avenges father!
Brigidilly Dallas is in Dallas county. Ft Worth is Tarrant county isnt it Sheila?
Yes, Tarrant Co. starts east of Arlington. Oh, and the "Q" towns question. I have been to Queen City in NE TX. It is just a few minutes from Atlanta, where I was born. lol!!
Atlanta as in Ga? ;^ )
It's another of those Cities that carry another's rememberance. LOL!! It is in the NE not too far from Paris! hee hee.
Funny thing, my DH was born in the Atlanta GA and me in Atlanta TX both the same year.
Need to sign off and get the "W" day started :-(( have fun y'all.
Gd, you should start a frog thread....lol...I've got a few more that are interesting...Ended up having alot of fun with the squirrels... :)
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiibit :D lol arite . . . I may do that later . . . I'll have to gather up all my lil froggyz and get them dressed up for the occasion ;)
lol....That reminds me....I use to round up toads by the box fulls.....in the summer when they would congregate in those metal thingys with the lids that hold the gas meter read-out. All of the neighborhood kids would go up and down the alleys looking for toads....! We'd have boxes of em just croaking and complaining until we let them all go at our house....MUCH to my parent's dismay....lol.... And on occasion...yeah, we'd put little hats on them...lol They were barbie hats....but they didn't care...lol :D
Years ago in California we had what we called "washes" to me it was like a big creek; anyway before they cemeted the one near us over, we use to take the buckets our moms used when they mopped the floor and go to the wash just after tadpoll season. We'd come home lugging these heavy, sloshing buckets full of tiny frogs, about 1/4 inch long. One day I lugged my bucket in through the front door of our house- BIG NO NO!- and w/ all of my usual poise and grace (all the money spent on ballet lessons was a huge waste) I accidentlly dumped the entire bucket, nasty water and all those hundreds of frogs onto the carpet, many went under the hall/coat closet door! My mom was so mad I am surprised to this day that I am still alive and have all my limbs attached! No idea how she cleaned it up- I believe I was banished to my room until she had calmed down, which may have taken about a week. LOL.
lmbo @ ya'll and your frogs . . . poor April's mom . . . bet she was HOT!!!!!
I guess I should start that froggy post soon . . . then I can e-mail April'sMon@StillMad.net and get her to post a few pics :D
GD, I saw that horse that you painted on another thread, it was beautiful! Do yo still paint, do you have a website where you sell your work?
Fly
http://www.gdrankin.com/
Oh yeah GD I promise if I remind of that story she will write me out of the will! LOL. and that's got to be 40 years ago! Dang I am old!
gd....wow you are a good artist....very lovley paintings...
A very good talent indeed!!!
Thanks Fly & Sticks & Sheila . . . and thanks April for post'n the link :)
And yeah I still find time to paint some . . . mostly in the winter when I can't do much outdoors. However, I'm about to start one of a baby Cheetah for a wildlife rescue sanctuary that is having a fund raiser next month. They are out in Nevada near Reno and have all sorts of critters there they've rescued. (The mountain lion painting on my site is of one of their rescues.) They recently acquired two baby Cheetah kittens from Africa in effort to raise awareness and such . . . I offered to donate a painting from a photo of one of them to auction off at the Cheetah Challenge fund raiser. So I'll be painting a little in the evenings for the next week or two I suppose ;)
Thanks for the kind words and thanks for look'n :)
lmbo April . . . yeah I can imagine that'd be a sore subject for LIFE :))
Here's the image we've selected for the painting . . . aint he the cutest lil rascal? :D

That painting will bring in a lot of money at the fund raiser. The picture is so cute, and from what we see the painting you do will be a real winner.
He's adorable! Thank goodness for sanctuaries! That's awesome that you donate your work.
Thanks again . . . I feel the same way @ goodness for sanctuaries . . . I feel sorry for the animals the end up needing to be rescued for what ever reason . . . I'm glad there are people out there that care enough and have the time and place to help them out. I figure it's the least I can do and I hope you're right Sheila, I expect to put in from 40 - 60 hours on the painting and another 20 or so custom framing it and building a shipping create. I'm blessed with a little talent and some free time, so I want to do what I can to help out.
If I have time I'm hoping to do a matching painting of the littermate . . . very similar pose, but the event is August 26 so we'll see. If not I'll get it to them later and they can put it in their gift shop.
GD, you are supporting a fund raiser? Remember that GD Rankin foundation that donated to the Converse Animal Shelter (hehe) I knew you must have something to do with it! Just kiddin'. =) But doing a fund raiser, you are an angel! Love the picture you chose to go off of for your painting!
Couldn't resist sharing this offer with all you who suffer with rocks and clay:
http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/hsh/186538741.html
I pretty much have hand picked all my rocks out of my topsoil already so I thought I'd pass this deal on to someone who needs it. =)
Beautiful subject matter... GD.. :)
Looks like that may have been the only open spot in the house to set up the photo. LOL!!
Queen City? I just had a patient from QC today. where in the world is that?
Waaayyy up in NE TX. It is only about 30 miles from AK & LA borders. I think it is Cass County, I know Atlanta is. Beautiful Pine trees too.
