San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Goodness...this was back in ......April 96....the EARLY days of chatting....we had been chatting in the same chat room with familiar folks for about 2 months and started talking about the band U2 one night....and well....here we are....with alot of blah blah blah in the middle...lol.... We've been engaged for an ungodly amount of time...and in no real hurry to jump the gun, jump the broom, break the bottle or smush the cake in a face...lol....He is most definitely a YANKEE....and I am a Texan thru and thru....so the personalities reflect that regional thang.....but its all good.... :)

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

Rained again, lots of thunder and lightning! Fair amount of rain and it cooled off for a bit, but now that's passed and it's HOT & HUMID!!! again. It's sort of like same old story, different day! Nice day to watch Maltese Falcon on TCM! Hard to beat that movie!

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

lol aprilwillis....naw...its Deadwood on HBO for me @ 8. About the ONLY thing I'll watch on tv.. :)

Dang, seems like the rain and thunder are just passin' around my little house. Absolutely nothing again today...but its had THAT look all day. And humid...phew....

lol GD, well........we decided on grilled jalapeno burgers instead of the ribs.. :) Awfully good.. :) Yikes...Deadwood is on...be back in a while!.. :)

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Crowelli, sorry I slipped off earlier. I am in San Augustine zip, Shelby co. and about a dozen miles from Toledo Bend and La. I love the pines and trees in general. It is soothing to me to come home to the woods. I think for me a big part of the charm is the remote area and the seclusion. We can sit on the front porch for an hour and hear maybe a couple cars go by. There is an occasional train we hear in the distance and a rare muted airplane overhead. Oh, and of course the neighbors dogs' barking incessantly. This area is becoming more developed. We moved here over thirty years ago and it has really changed but I am still hard pressed to want to move elsewhere. What part of east Texas was your home?

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

Okay, lol, not that I really NEED one for this area...BUT, do any of you have a GREAT rain gauge you have bought recently? We bought and el cheapo one but the lines already wore off on the plastic tube. I've seen them go as high as $20 but seems a bit much.

Or maybe you have a better method of measuring the rain? No jokes. Okay...laughs allowed. =)

Crosbyton, TX(Zone 7a)

gd...so glad you can bother us more....i have had my share of stupid things like that....fell off the roof last year on the first day of bambi killing...busted my arm in 3 places....hubbie was too drunk to drive...but sober enuf to know and said he would see me the next day.....(grin)....at least no bambis that trip....

Crosbyton, TX(Zone 7a)

gd we had ribs at lunch.....yum yum.... smack smack

Crosbyton, TX(Zone 7a)

no rain here guys....

Boerne new zone 30, TX(Zone 8b)

I got a nice big one at lowes. Have to lift it off the ground to see what the rain was though. it has a stick in the ground thing on the bottom

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

After the big flood of 2002, I started looking for a rain gauge that's measures at least 10 inches (could have used it then, I mean I still don't know exactly how much we got that week since the gauge kept overflowing and it would be raining way too heavy to get out and empty it)...and I never found one over 6 inches. But doesn't look like I need a bigger gauge after all, with this drought! We didn't get any rain yesterday, just a scary loud clap of thunder that made me hit the dirt. None today either.

We got 33 inches here that year. I had springs coming up all over the place on my land... I had water coming out of the french drain so much it looking like a fire hydrant.

Here is one of the springs that popped open and gurgled up right next to the bird bath!

Oh my goodness, Nada...that is the neatest thing...I can't even imagine having something like that happen right out of the ground here....Does it always happen like that after a heavy rain?

Ohhh....ok....it was during that flood year.....

Boerne new zone 30, TX(Zone 8b)

it happened both flood years.. but hasn't sense then. There are a couple in the back 40 that start in the spring after a lot of rains in a row...

Dallas, TX

How neat to have springs on your place!

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

That's beautiful!

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

I wanted to show ya'll a photo of a plant that I listed in the identification section. I had dug these up about a year and a half ago out in the brush country.....and I finally got a name for it....a Woolly Beebrush....lol...It got ID'd in a real short while and thats just darn awe inspirin'.. :) http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/629671/ I highly recommend the ID forum if ya have something showing off in your garden...and you aren't real sure as to what its doing or why its showing off in the first place...lol If ya'll love natives like I do...and you see one of these somewheres or about...I'd take the "Have Shovel Will Travel" pickup with you...and grab one!....REAL drought tolerant and the bees love em.. :)

Hi all. Podster, I'm originally from Sabine county, your next door neighbor! My great great great grandfather is listed in the "Texas Handbook" as the first settler in Shelby county. My folks have been in the area ever since. I moved to Houston about 1978, so I guess you got there just as I was leaving.

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

Boy, the thread got long! Glad y'all started a new one. We had a nice heavy rain yesterday -- blowing like crazy. I was so covered with sweat and grass clippings I took it all off and rinsed off the way God intended. (If that doesn't keep the neighbors away, nothing will.) And it ALMOST felt like fall this morning. OOOOOOh so nice.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

lol brigidlily, more power to ya... ;)

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

More rain last night and again this morning. Appears that it will not be clearing up anytime soon. Lots of thunder and lightning and not far away, Rosenberg, apparently lightning struck an apt complex and started a fire.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Rain? Where? What rain?
