Ok here are a few shots of this neighborhood i was driving around looking for the big momma tree.Hurricane wilma destroy the mother tree and it is no longer there so i drove around some more to see what damage the storm did to the remaining plumies..
Almost all the plumie trees were stake up or had some kind of homemade thingy on it.
http://www.whitesandsmedia.com/lopaka/20060719_0162.jpg
Here is the daughter tree from big momma and as you can see what wilma has done to her.
To tell you the truth i love this look and this shot is one of my favs..
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/160/398623072_c37455a769_o.jpg
Hard to tell from this pic but the top of this tree is gone from wilma plus this tree looked very sick to me so i walk up to it and looked at it closer..
http://www.whitesandsmedia.com/lopaka/20060719_0166.jpg
The trunk has damage from what appears to be the borer beetle or some other kind of bug.
http://www.whitesandsmedia.com/lopaka/20060719_0171.jpg
I put my car keys on the trunk so you can see how big she is..
http://www.whitesandsmedia.com/lopaka/20060719_0172.jpg
On the ground there are many hollowed out branches and in the tree there are many rotted branches..
http://www.whitesandsmedia.com/lopaka/20060719_0173.jpg
Here are the flowers on the tree as close as i can get to them.
If you look closer you can see many rotted or damage branches from bugs..

http://www.whitesandsmedia.com/lopaka/20060719_0168.jpg
http://www.whitesandsmedia.com/lopaka/20060719_0169.jpg
Weird thing the flowers have a horrible smell it was so bad i couldnt hold my nose
close to it for more then a second.I wonder if this because of the bugs and the tree is
very sick who knows..

South Florida Blooms! \(^o^)/
Ok back to my house some more locals have bloom..
We call this one "Cotton Candy" because that what it looks like i guess..
This could be a name cvs so if anybody has info on that let me know..
She grows near the ocean in broward county i do not know about dade county.
The smell is a very strong floral smell much like one of those perfume bars of soap.
The holding capacity is excellent and scent remains strong thru decay..
http://www.whitesandsmedia.com/lopaka/20060719_0174.jpg
http://www.whitesandsmedia.com/lopaka/20060719_0178.jpg
http://www.whitesandsmedia.com/lopaka/20060719_0179.jpg
http://www.whitesandsmedia.com/lopaka/20060719_0180.jpg
Ok this gem i found growing in a field that was use for garbage dumping..
The tree was 20+ feet high and i had to cut my way thru poison ivy to reach her..
I went back to that field to get more cuttings and the whole area was level out for a new
townhouse complex :(
She has a sweet smell to her much like blueberries and has tough texture with
a grainy look to her..
She has a red ring in her throat and the holding capacity is excellent..
The mother tree was growing near John Lloyd state park in lauderdale so i name her
"Pink Lloyd" sound familiar hehe...
Again this could be a name cvs so if anybody has info on that let me know..

Thanks all...
It takes time to edit these pics for your viewing eyes hehe..
I have so many more it is a question of time..
Yeah Mal i was really bum on that one they really need to protect our trees..
You have to be blind not see this wonderful hugh flowering tree among the ugly
vines and other invasive plants growing around her..
Awesome pictures, Robert and Dave. Thanks for sharing them. They are so informative and appreciated.

Here is another one for you Brad!!
Is this a virus or is this break cause from too much rain?
Flowers were perfect until 10 days of straight rain and notice where the rain has pool on the petals..
Shhh don't tell the so called experts on MPG they are convince all plumies have a virus if they break color even once in their lifetime..
I can break any plumie colors with humic acid/or GB3 and it is not permanent..
Here again is the "Quandamooka" with a little friend protecting her..

This is Suki's "Leticia" and she has a wonderful sweet smell to her and as you can see
from the pics she has a great shape to her also.
Took me 30 mins to capture her true color with a tripod and lighting reduce to bring her reds out to true form..
To tell you the truth my Leticia looks nothing like Suki's lol i wonder if she gave me a secret plumie hmm...

The classic "Madame Poni" and this plumie has been thru hell..
4 years ago FedEx broke her in half then the following year a storm cut her in 2 again..
Last year she survive Hurricane Wilma only to have my wooden fence fall on her spliting her in two..
After spraying her with tar/pruning paint she finally busted out from her broken state..
**Feed your plumies well and they will respond in a big way!! **

This plumie is name the "Duke" after my hero! Hawaii first and only Olympic gold and silver medalist and multi world record holder for swiming and surfing the largest wave known to man..
He also owns the record for the longest wave ride (over a mile long)..
Following World War I, "When the 1920 games at Antwerp, Belgium Duke at the age of 30 came back to defend his title and broke all his previous records and was label "the world's fastest swimmer".
In Paris 1924 , Duke was dethroned by one of his best friends the first "Tarzan" Johnny Weismuller..
Still Duke brought home a silver medal in the 100 meter sprint and his younger brother Sam won the event's third place bronze...
In 1917 Duke rides the biggest and longest wave ever attempted 50+ feet from a Japanese earthquake..
He is quoted as saying:
"I never caught another wave anything like that one. And now with the birthdays piled up on my back, I know I never shall. But they cannot take that memory away from me. It is a golden one that I treasure, and I'm grateful that God gave it to me."
The Duke plumeria is truely a special plant..
The smell is very sweet and very strong and her shape is extraordinary..

Here is my old friend from many years past who i keep bringing with me no matter where i move to..
This is the plumie "Sanuye" which means "red cloud at sunset" in american indian..
This plumie is what my idea of rare is, created by nature and over 25 years old.
I know of no one that has this plumie besides me and the owner of my orginal tree..
She has been with me for a long time and was almost destroyed 3 times from hurricanes..
Wilma cause her 80% destruction and she pull thru from being a stump..
I hope you enjoy her as much as i do..

Terrific photos bro...
Is Madame Poni always so lightly colored for you?
Im hoping to see the colors in mine that I see in all the advertised photos of her.
Beautiful regardless, very nice plumie show man.
Quandamooka is one of my absolute favorites.
Thanks for the show
What a great way to start my day!! ;^)
Thanks all glad you like them..
Yes Mike she is very bright but i don't have the twist in her flowers yet...
One thing about the madame poni is..
She smells good and her lasting power is very very good i was surprise about that..
Ardesia
Some peeps in another forum ask the same thing so i took some pics on some of the stuff i use all in 1 shot which will save time for me..
The main thing is i collect rain water all the time and store it 100+ gallons and mix that with my nutrients..
I have so many photos let me edit some today and post them..
It's so easy to take the shots but it takes alot of time to edit them all lol..
Fantastic pictures, Robert! I didn't see them all but am coming right back to them. Will post more comments later here.
I came back to admire all your pictures, Robert, as I didn't get to them all yesterday. I love the Som Raya's colors and petals. I don't think that is a color break on your Quandamooka; I think that coloration is due to your weather. Leticia is a gorgeous color. I love it. You are such an amazing photographer. Your Madam Poni is certainly a tough one, isn't it? Luc from Florida Colors told me that pruning tar often contains a growth inhibitor so he told me to use it sparingly. I didn't know that Duke was named after the swimmer. Interesting! You really know how to capture reds well, one of the hardest colors to photograph. Duke, Strawberry Loops, and Scott Pratt are all amazing photographs. All the rest are wonderful too. Love the ginger too! Sanuye is lovely too. Thanks for showing us all these beauties. I have a feeling that I will be visiting this thread often when winter comes and I'm in need of some lovely pictures of plumies.
I have just spent an obscene amount of time reading throug this entire thread and looking at all of the pictures. Thank you everyone for the pleasure of seeing so much beauty and wildlife. I loved all of the lizard pics too. We used to have horned toads here in west tx but with the gradual climate change over the past 10 years, we now have geckos. my cat seems to keep the population down lower than I like. I really enjoy 'little creatures" The flower pictures are all wonderful but I especially enjoyed seeing the pics of the entire trees. We just don't have things like that around here. THANK YOU!
Tammie

I don't think that is a color break on your Quandamooka; I think that coloration is due to your weather.
That was my point exactly..
Peeps in MPG said there is no such thing as a heat splash so why should i argue with them when i can show proof it exist..
:)
I didn't know that Duke was named after the swimmer. Interesting!
When you say Duke all Hawaiians know you are talking about the one and only Duke Kahanamoku winner of 3 gold and 2 silver medals and for so many years the worlds fastest swimmer.
Duke Kahanamoku was the first person to be inducted into both the Swimming Hall of Fame and the Surfing Hall of Fame. The Duke Kahanamoku Invitational Surfing Championships are named in his honor. He served as sheriff of Honolulu, Hawaii from 1932 to 1961.
There is also a chain of restaurants named after him in California and Hawaii called Duke's.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duke_Kahanamoku
Your pictures actually make me cry. I want something to grow that beautifully! those pinks and varigated blooms are to die for. Thank you so much. I can almost smell them through the computer monitor. Lopaka, I sent you d-mail... also, do you normally stay up this late? I do when I don't have to go to work in the morning.
Tammie
More stunning pictures of your plumerias, Robert, and that gardenia is just breath-taking. Thanks so much for the information on Duke Kahanamoku and the pictures of him and his fellow surfers are classic. I absolutely agree with you that heat can and does bring out more intense color and a splash of color occasionally, and that is not necessarily indicative of a virus.
Lopaka, I sent you d-mail... also, do you normally stay up this late? I do when I don't have to go to work in the morning.
Tammie
Sometimes when i get home from work late..
More stunning pictures of your plumerias, Robert, and that gardenia is just breath-taking. Thanks so much for the information on Duke Kahanamoku..
Your quite welcome Clare and of course you have my permission to use them if you need to..
Nothing like a "two-fer!!!" Nice to know the history behind my Duke - got it as a cutting from Suki last Feb. No inflos yet...but plenty of leaves....LOVED your photo of it...gives me something to look forward to at some point!!
My nutrients are growing mutants!!

... magnolias!... LOL
Tammie
Could you repeat that please!
:)
I'm still trying to play catch-up on all the posts I've missed since I've been either busy or sick to visit as often as I would like.
Wonderful thread full of great plumie and other flowers. I love "South Florida Pink" or "Flamigo Pink". Very nice!
The blue tailed lizard is very pretty, the only blue thing up here are our stanks.
Of course the history behind some of the plumies is always nice to learn.
Is that a magnolia?.....LOL
Nice show man.
Awesome Boquet!!
Guess my finger stuttered... actually DG did. sorry about that. LOL
Tammie
Awesome pics, Robert! Love the plumie ring. That is a stunning arrangement that you made. Thanks so much for doing that for us ladies! I also love the Magnolia flower. Magnolias have such a great fragrance. Mine are finishing up now just as the gingers are starting.
We've missed you, Trish! I'm sorry to hear that you've been sick. I hope you are better now.
Tammie, Dave's does that from time to time. No worries, Mate!
Not only a beautiful arrangement but stunning photos - such clarity...very nice!!
Made these rings for some of the ladies on another forum and it seems some of the guys like them too..
I thought how rude of me not to share with my friends here..
Please forgive my ignorance and enjoy some of my rings,i really need to get more rings to hold many more flowers..
..it's getting old looking at the grass cover in plumie flowers everywhere!
