Robert,

Thise look like Quaker Parakeets and Nanday Conures. Good Lord! South Florida is becoming a refuge for escaped exotic pets! LOL Let me know when the Macaws and African greys start showing up at your feeder! I'll be down there with some nets to catch them so I can start breeding them here. LOL Those babies are expensive! LOL

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Awesome pictures, Robert! Thank you for sharing them!

Davie, FL(Zone 10b)

Your welcome Clare..
Brad my next door neighbors feeder has 2 african greys from time to time..
I know when they are there because the darn things talk like little babies..
There is a white macaw that comes aorund but i never see him on the feeders..

Thanks for the name of these birds i was wondering what they were..
I also get the same conures but they look a little different..
The other ones have a blue head and blue tail... between them and the black heads
they make alot of noise when they are on the feeders it almost like they are fighting
with each other..
Very smart birds its funny i had to sneak up on them to take this shot because as you can see in the pics they always have 1 or 2 lookouts while the other ones feed..

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

Wow!! So much to say!!
Suki Darlin', WELCOME!! ;^)
So glad you came here. 8^D
Thanks Lopaka for all the great photos.
Brad, thanks for all the ids lol!!
The 'giant' green lizard is a common green iguana, he can reach 5 or 6 foot long.
Hell run if you aproach him.
If he doesnt and you grab him, hell bite, scratch and whip you with his tail.
If you have leather gloves and a long sleeve shirt youll do fine.
I had a 5 footer as a pet and she was my buddy.
If you keep him as a pet, keep him out of the sun, it makes them agressive.
Use a bird net to catch him, they do eat a lot of greenery.
The hawk should have no problem catching him.
Brad id like to see these 'brown' anoles youre speaking of.
They could be a variety of Cuban anole, highly territorial, afraid of nothing, a nasty reptile.
Thank God they only get 20 inches theyd eat us all LOL!!

Geneva, FL(Zone 9b)

Michael, these anoles are very small. like the native green anoles we call chameleons. The same exact size. They are really cute. The kids will catch them and wear them as "earrings"--meaning they will bite and clamp down and not let go sometimes and they will hang from the kids earlobes--its' quite comical and completely safe and painless. My friends and I used to do this with the green ones when we were little---hang them from our ears, noses, fingers, shirttails--LOL I used to let them go in my room as 'pets', much to the displeasure of my Mother. LOL

........Of course she liked them MUCH better than the green snake that got loose once and suddenly appeared under her feet in the kitchen. LOL

Geneva, FL(Zone 9b)

Here's a couple of pics of a dark brown one--some are lighter with pattrns and quite pretty--this one isn't but you see what they look like.....

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

They do look like Anoles except for the flat crested tail.
I havent seen these before, very interesting.
There are 2 types of native anoles
1 is called the common Anole, found in Fla at the time of my studies 1974-1986
The other was called a Carolina Anole
It could be one of them
Im stumped with all the exotic intros from private collections.
The most common exotic escapey here believe it or not is Parrots
Second is Cougars... YIKES!!
We have one living in the woods on a golf course near my home like 1/2 mile away.
My youngest son saw it sunning next to the trolley tracks, it ran away, so did he!

Davie, FL(Zone 10b)

Hey Mal look at these pages..
http://www.wildherps.com/species/A.sagrei.html
http://www.southalley.com/album_anoles2.html

Brad is correct this brown lizard is a invasive species and it would seem those
great green anoles are getting scarce..
===============================================
Ok either i was tired or something happen to my links..
Maybe i am just a tard lol..
I see in some of my last posts i am missing some links duh!!
Brad here is the first pic of my seedling in Mar 2006 this is the shot i refer to in my other post..
As you can see i just put them in those pots and still had more to do in the clay pots..
http://www.whitesandsmedia.com/lopaka/IMAGE_20060501.103.jpg
Now you have a reference on how fast they grew..
Ok here is the July 8 2006 shots and they already need transplanting again...

Thanks so much Clare, Lopaka, and Michael for the warm welcome!! All these familiar faces will make me feel right at home, and yet I'm excited about meeting new plumie buddies.

Killer parrots Lopaka! I wouldn't mind having one of those as a pet. I have two love bird and they are precious little parrots, I love them. Also you're offer of your images is very generous, Mahalo for being so good to me. You do well with that camera, and your plumies are looking awesome.

Here a pic of my newest color break. It's a seedling of Cotton Candy.

Geneva, FL(Zone 9b)

Hi Suki! Good to see you here!

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

Brad,
It looks like you have the brown Anole in Lopakas pictures.
We just had an absolutely fierce thunderstorm, 60mph winds.
About 80% of my plumies blew off of thier stations.
I was up on the shed roof watering and I saw it coming.
All I could do was get off the roof and pick up pots.
It was like a giant invisible fist plowed across my property.
I am amazed that I had only 1 branch break off.
Once again I need to redesign where they sit.........
Interestingly enough, all the plumies that I have in 3 gallon buckets have around 4 inches of stone in them. Not one of them blew over!!
Ill be doing some major repotting in the coming days..
102 here yesterday, close again today.. No humidity 'its a dry heat' LOL!!
Doesnt that make it tolerable?
I actually enjoyed it lol!!

Leeward Coast, HI(Zone 11)

Aloha Bradster!
How'z it ma bradah (Hawaiian Pigeon)?

Hey I have a ton of lizards in my property. Geckos like you won't believe, and 3 other types I see daily but not sure what they names are. Here a pic of a vicious fight in the plumie patch, lol.

Geneva, FL(Zone 9b)

Hey Suki,

Wow those are some vicious little beasts! Ya' better keep Lil' Moragne outta the plumie pacth or she might get eaten! LOL

Michael, we are having terrible thunderstorms tonight. I got computer, but my Direct TV is out and I am missing my favorite show 'Rescue Me', doggone it!!! ARGH!

Davie, FL(Zone 10b)

Hey Mal now you got a little taste what i been going thru for over a year now..
All my pots have 1 inch of pea gravel to prevent them from falling over..
So far they went thru 4 hurricanes,1 tropical storm,a brush with a tornado and one hail storm..

Hey the cutting is on the way you will need to sign for it...
I hung her upside down wrap in parafilm soak in clonex and guess what she is throwing out new leaves very quickly in just 4 days..
Hope it makes it in 1 piece..

"Davie Ruffles"
Here is another pink blooming that is local (no name cvs) me thinks its a cousin of the Flamingo Pink.
They are almost the same only this one has just a sweet rose smell and the texture is more firm..
She is a more compact grower then the flamingo and she fades to white as you can see..
http://www.whitesandsmedia.com/lopaka/20060718_0148.jpg

"Sombrilla" or "Sombrilla Blanco"
She is a hugh white beauty 5" across and grows in my back yard the plant is a little sick from all the rain but she produce one flower. I try to adjust the flower to take the shot but she fell off the inflo so i took these pics of her..
This plumie grows locally and the spanish landscapers call her sombrilla or sometimes sombrilla blanco meaning umbrella or white umbrella. She smells like a gardenia no doubt about it and her holding quality is very good. Dunno if she is a name cvs so maybe one of you can help me out on this one. I put her next to a vera cruz rose flower so you can see her true size.Nothing like haveing a bowl full of these 2 beauties..

http://www.whitesandsmedia.com/lopaka/20060718_0145.jpg

Again all these pics are 1024 x 768 so they fit as wallpapers perfectly..
Someone ask what do i mean by this?
When viewing the pics right click and select "Set as background" in IE or in
Firefox right click and select "Set as wallpaper".
Don't forget to make your screen rez the same size (1024 x768).

Suki those look like our long lost green anoles but i am no lizard expert..

Speaking of anoles.......

This fat little guy looks like he has just finished dinner.

Thumbnail by ardesia
Davie, FL(Zone 10b)

Hey Mal most gingers need shade however i have a few that grow in full sun so you have to know which one you got...

Ardesia she looks very healthy indeed..
That is a green anole that change to brown correct?

Geneva, FL(Zone 9b)

Looks like the Cuban Browns found there way to the Carolinas! The green anoles do not have those markings--they have no markings. That is definitely one of the ones I have in my yard. Also, the short snout is a dead give-away.

Davie, FL(Zone 10b)

Ahh ok..
I got green ones with blue heads some have red heads i need to take a pic of these..
I just seen some green in him thought he change colors or something..
I think the mocking birds who are all over yard are taking care of them..
I got a few that are friendly to me and when they see me coming they run out of the bushes and look up at me..
They wait for me to turn on the water hose because they know i am going to wet the ground so they can drink..
Sometimes when i turn my pots to check to see if some of my plants are root bound i find
these little roaches and i grab them and walk over to the bush and within seconds the lizards run out and i drop the roaches in front of me and sit back and watch the show..
Yes i know i need help :)

(Zone 11)

This is not my picture but it does look similar...

Thumbnail by Dave67
Davie, FL(Zone 10b)

Yes that is what i am talking about..
I thought maybe the brown and the green anole got together and had siblings..
I always thought the green anole which lives in the carolinas also is the only one that can change
colors from green to brown unlike the brown anoles which stay within in their color i guess i am wrong..
It just look like a green anole even with the markings..

This message was edited Jul 19, 2006 11:45 AM

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

I am not sure if it is a cuban refugee or not. The ones we generally see are the ones that turn green and brown depending on what part of the plant they are on. We have them all over so now I will go out and see if I can find some more and look for snout length and spots on their backs. (Well, it is too hot to do anything else.) LOL

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Here is another picture; I guess we have a lot of Cubans here.

Thumbnail by ardesia
Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

And look at his blue eye rims when he is in the green phase.

Thumbnail by ardesia
Geneva, FL(Zone 9b)

Could be as Robert says: a hybrid. The anoles from my Florida childhood never had markings on them--ever.

Whatever they are, they're cute! They are fun to watch and quite comical at times. Whenever I move plants, they are waiting to see what lies under the pots and charge in to investigate when I lift the plants. LOL Eat those bugs--YEH!

Davie, FL(Zone 10b)

Too tired to post just got home from work..
Went to go see big momma today and all my fears came true..
We are losing our native trees..
I saw one of the babies tho got some pics and what wilma has clearly done to them..
The baby which is a hugh tree has the dreaded borer beetle and it is ravaging the tree..
Got some pics of the damage cause by wilma and the beetle...
After touring this area for the first time in many years i am convince some of these trees are
native almost every other house has a hugh plumie tree..
They have so many plumies they even adorn the meduims in the middle of the road..
I would say the average tree is 20 feet plus and that's the small ones..
I have pics i am too tired to edit them right now but will do it tomm..
My buddy just got back from costa rica and i sent him on a mission to find a plumie tree
i remember seeing growing out of the volcanic rock on the cliffs overlooking the ocean..
Good news he found the tree and i have pics and he sneaked a few cuttings from the trees i wanted to revisited..
More goods news the natives told him where there is a bunch of hugh trees and many colors growing at 3,000 feet in the mountains and he brought me cuttings :)
The tree growing out of the cliffs is a hugh tree and my buddy is 6'1'' and looks a child in this thing..
She is a little bigger then one i was looking for today in Ft.Lauderdale..
Like i said i have pics will post tomm..
Goodnite All!

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

lopaka..looking fwd to the pics when you get some rest..

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

I am eagerly anticipating the pics Bra!
I am so sorry about the beetles.
If you can salvage some of the tree for cuttings perhaps they could be quarantined and treated, thus saving the genetics at any rate. The Momma may be lost but a bunch of cuttings will ressurect her majesty in time. Those beetles are frightening.
I have found a few grubs in cuttings from Fla. I dont think they were the dreaded monster though.
Rest up buddy, think on it all after you feel better.
The mad rush I was forced into when the storm hit has brought a moderate relapse upon me
I need to be still for about 3 or 4 days. This really sucks......
Ill be pining for your pics. ;^)

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Michael i hope you are better...get good rest my friend..

Davie, FL(Zone 10b)

Here is my buddy who went to costa rica last week and like i said in my other post he found the plumie tree that was growing out of rock overlooking the ocean
The tree is growing behind these thick tall bushes and he had to get ladder to get up the tree.He is 6'1'' tall so you can see how big the tree is.
http://img160.imageshack.us/img160/5485/01418amm9.jpg
Here is a closer look and as you can see it is a plumie..
http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/4321/01418a2fr1.jpg
Here is the very fragrant flower that comes from that tree and also the cutting i now have in my yard thanks to him.
Sorry for the pics but he is not a professional :)
http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/3866/0045ans2.jpg

Here is another plumie thats growing at 3,000 feet in the mountains and i also have a cutting from this fragrant plumie.
http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/6347/0058aou2.jpg
Here is another tree that was growing outside of his hotel yes that house is a hotel lol.
http://img71.imageshack.us/img71/4786/0023acc2.jpg
He said the leaves were hugh around 3 to 3.5 feet long and if you look at the top you can
clearly see the size of the leaf compare to him.Like i said he is 6'1'' tall.
The entire area is volcanic so im guessing thats why these trees are so tall..
Here are the flowers he brought back from that tree which were on the cutting he gave me.Sorry for the dead look to the flowers but what can i say i have the cutting.
They still smell very sweet after decaying in his luggage for a few days.
http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/5192/200607180150mb6.jpg

http://img112.imageshack.us/img112/6632/200607180149tm0.jpg

After a long day of plumie hunting he took a break with his girlfriend on the beach, not a bad view i must say..
