I recalled today reading a letter complaining about the lack of moral standards, rudeness and lack of backbone and respect in the youth of today. It went to to descirbe how much more these people had than the writer in his day etc.
It was written in the 1700s. People don't change :)
Was it ok for the man in the story I described above to make a rude gesture to me let alone in front of children simply because he is older and in some peoples eyes, due to that, deserved respect?
Respect is a wage earned and not freely given just because one has grown a year older. I don't care what age someone is, if they act with respect to the world about them and to themselves and with dignity, they have earned my respect too, if they don't then why am I obliged to be respectful?
Not that I am purposefully disrespectful just because I don't think another person deserves it. I'm just at a loss as to why someone at the age of 50 + deserves any more respect than someone - 50.
What bugs you?
It basically comes down to The Golden Rule.
Treat people the way you would like to be treated.
It doesn't matter what age they are.
What I hate is when I'm outside and can hear the neighbors' t.v., radio, or stereo. I really hate it if I'm in the house and can still hear their radio or stereo. I hate boom cars, too, but at least they go away.
When me and my better half go biking or visit some were to take photos.
Why? We only end up take a handfull photos, because he ALWAYS has to play around with the camera till there no longer has batteries! He has promise to buy an extra but never does.
The bugs in my garden
Kelli, oh I hate that as well, expesially if it is rap music or contry.
Anyone that gets bug, by people who gets bug by rap and contry? LOL
I like country, but no one around here plays it.
Don't like rap, but listen to MTV off and on because it's a clue to the future.
Never did get into country except for Johnny cash!
I don't just like country, I guess you'd say I love country. That's pretty much all that is on my iPod. I especially like bluegrass and Cajun. How a Californian-Pennsylvanian gets that way, I do not know. My parents didn't listen to country. I just developed that on my own.
I like Bluegrass. Love the mountain music!
To me no singer has a better Apalachin (sp) sound than Patty Loveless. About the only kind of music I don't like is hard rock. To me hard rock is not music. Just a bunch of noise.
I never remember a time that my family didn't have music in the house/car. My Dad plays (used to) a five string banjo. He was very good. He has always been a big fan of Bluegrass music.

Is Johnny Cash country?
Oh my there is nothing like making a fool out of your self LOL.
I love Cash :o))
Yes Johnny Cash is country.
Oh… embarrassing. Then I better say, I don`t like country except Cash…. Eerrr I better shut up, there is probably some other singer that sings country, but I don`t know it is country.
Are there different forms of county music? Think I am a bit confused
Yes, there are different forms of country music, just like there are different forms of rock. Here is some information http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Country_music
Has anyone else ever noticed that if you hear someone refer to a particular genre as "country-western", it's a good bet that that person does not like country music?

Kelli, thanks for that link. A very good one. I bookmarked it.
Hi Kelli.
A very interesting link, know something about country now :o)
Ok..well, now that I have read all of this post that I can handle at the moment, I will get it back on track to what the topic WAS. What bugs me? STUPIDITY! I didnt say IGNORANCE..Let me explain for those of you who may not know the difference. If you are not educated or KNOWLEDGEABLE about some things or topics, then it is called IGNORANCE. You cant help it! You dont know any better..Now, say someone comes along and teaches you the correct way to do something or say something..or just educates you in general...and you STILL keep on doing or saying the same thing over and over, and expecting new results every time...THAT, my friends, is STUPIDITY!Now one of the BIGGEST and RUDEST things a person can say is this phrase..I dont care if it harelips the governor!..That, my friends is stupid, rude, and down right ugly. ..Why, I wonder ..Would that same person say, I dont care if it "mongoloids" the governor..or I dont care if it "cripples" the governor...One would think in THIS day and age...Folks would know better...and BTW..IIIIIIIIII was NOT born with a harelip..I was born with a cleft lip and cleft palate. THAT is the correct term for it....I speak extremely well..I have been complimented by many on the repair work done on me. Often, even doctors, are unaware that I was born with this BIRTH DEFECT. AND THAT is what it is..It is not a life sentence..doomed to disfigurement or speech impediments...to be shunned and locked away in shame!!!...Sooooo, now that you all HAVE been educated..Anyone want to be stupid anymore?????
p.s. thanks for letting me get this off my chest..i had just heard on TV a rude and crude comment made about a "harelipped" imbecile!! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
You have an interesting choice of words, given some recent conversations I've been in. It bugs me when people pass judgement and call other people stupid, not knowing if it's stupidity, or ignorance, or perhaps a medical condition causing what appears to be stupidity.
I've never heard the harelipped comparison, and, in fact, didn't know that was even a word... learned somethin' new today.
I know the difference between stupidity and ignorance.
What bugs me is when some people think my 84 year old Mother is stupid, ignorant, or mentally ill. She is none of those. She has had many strokes so her thinking capacity is very slow. She also has memory loss.
People shouldn't be so quick to judge.

It's interesting gabagoo posted as she did when she did. I had an unpleasant interaction with a couple of rude women (but righteous, mind you) in a grocery store about the same time. It upset me enough for me to leave the store.
Good for you and your courage, gabagoo - be careful - there are times when you'll suffer backlash, which I know from experience, and it can be rough. Now, rather than continue to speak up as often as the opportunity presents itself (and the potential consequences of doing so), I find myself moving further and further into reclusivity (is that a word, and if it is, is it spelled right?), and that's easy to do here in Hoopa.
I can't keep quiet when someone coughs or sneezes on me. I'm so thoroughly disgusted and grossed out by it, that I could very well carry on like a first grader about it.
I follow in hot pursuit of people who litter until they stop somewhere where I can let them know it is not acceptable. The ashtray dumper would not have made it through the light when it turned green, 'cause I'd be at their door, holding up traffic, and getting the cops on the scene. I'm afraid, bivbiv, I wouldn't be rational and think of myself, only that I had to act.
LOL, 4paws.
I hate when people litter too.
In a building I used to work in there was a courtyard in the back where we could sit & eat lunch. During the summer there were lunchtime concerts. There were always lots of people around.
One day, about 25 years ago, there were 2 women sitting next to me yakking away. When they got up, one of them put her soda can under the seat and started to walk back to the building. Talk about LAZY! She had to pass 3 trash cans before she got to the door, as well as another 2 between the doors and the elevator banks! That's FIVE chances to throw away the can - yet she opts to leave it under her seat.
Of course me, and my big mouth - I call out (loud & clear), "Excuse me, Miss? You 'forgot' your soda can. You know, the one you left under the chair...?"
Of course, everybody looked. She turned beet red, came back and retrieved the can. She avoided looking in my direction - which was very obvious because she had been sitting right next to me. She turned her head in all kinds of directions in order to avoid eye contact.
I said the the sweetest, syrup-y voice I could muster (without bursting into laughter) "Thank you, and have a nice day."
She made a beeline for the building pausing at the trash can to throw out the can.
After that, I noticed she always threw her trash out properly. I guess she was afraid I'd leap out from behind the shrubs or something.
I wasn't worried about her attacking me or anything. The idea at that time would never have even occurred to me.
This was in the 70s. Times were different. Words like "road rage", etc. weren't even in our vocabulary. Also, there were over 100 people in the plaza - and at least 30 who heard my "reminder".
Nancy
I also hate it when people chew gum audibly.
I really, really really need to read this whole thread through - and will - as time permits,
(for the recipes if no other reasons, but there are allways other reasons).
You know, when someone asked me, just the other day, "where was the favorite place you have ever lived?"
I thought about it, long & carefully, and replied "I don't have a favorite place... because though I have been fourtunate enough to live in many places, (and many beautiful places)
it is the people you meet at these places that make them special."
There will be good and bad people, wherever you go, may the winds be at your back and the people you meet become your friends - for that is the best we can wish for anyone.
That is very true, Dyson. It explains everything.
Ok - Gotta add another one ...
Customer Service for utility companies! For example, I've fought with the electric company 3 months to confirm meter readings. Ended up with an almost $700 bill because they insisted I wasn't sending in meter readings, when I thought I did. I thought we sorted it out (I could pay the bill electronically, just as long as I emailed them a reading). WRONG! They sent another "estimated bill", which means whoever got the email did nothing with it.
Another example - answering those auto-button punch "account #, phone #, etc" just to get a real person that asks all the same questions again anyways....
Echo those complaints, AngelSong, especially the second one!
You Mean ...... You have actually spoken with a real live customer service person !!!!! Gads the myths are true ..... they really do exist?
If you punch "0" enough times, or completely ignore those random "please enter your account #, followed by the pound key", they will eventually connect you to a live body, yep!
Not always AngelSong, that will often get you a hangup these days. Lots of companies are choosing to eliminate the 0 option to ensure more calls get to the right people. I agree that telephone auto attendants can be a real pain...mostly when they are multi layered like you describe. Like so many things simpler is better and so much less frustrating for the caller.
What really bugs me is the companies that choose to "water down" their products rather than raising the price. Sometimes that's okay but has anyone seen the Eagle Brand Condensed Milk lately? It's thin and runny, can after can, so I know it's not a fluke.
Don't know how you could possibly make a Key Lime Pie with it...
Ok, not related .... but pertenent (sp?) - around 5 yrs (i think) ago every hard drive ran at 5400 RPM, and had a three year warrenty. then someone decided higer RPM meant more data moved quickly - and all hard drives were increased to 7200 RPM. - Within a year all the mfgs were besiged with warrenty failures. Did they fix the problem? No they changed the warenty period from 3 to 1 year.
Ok - what is the flawed logtic in this seniro?
