What bugs you?

Central FL, FL(Zone 9b)

Isn't that like cutting off your rose to spite your face?? LOL

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

(heehee)

More like cutting off your rose to save disgrace .. (by the bugs!)

bivbiv - I just can't take the destruction they cause. They only hang around three weeks so just 8 days to go.

Edited to add that I did get a good laugh out of your "rose" comment!

They are a disgrace, Magpye! They eat for a week (and feast on my roses), then they use our garden as a pleasure palace as they have sex for a week (no wonder they have to eat so much to expend that kind of energy!), then they lay eggs for a week (and we thought childbirth was an experience?) and I, for one, am sick of it! Let them have their experiences someplace else.

Can't say that I blame you none: not nary a bit.

The naystee lil vermin .. have sure put the proverbial dent (and plenney of holes!) in the leaves of my 'first ever' Amaranthus. Been keeping them dusted with Sevin - but oh so carefully, so as not to unintentionally 'do in' any butterflies and bees that attend the flower tasseling now taking place. Ahh, but the plants look awfully wretched.

A gal's gotta do what a gal's gotta do.

Now I'm afraid to look at my Amaranthus! Oh no!

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

Hmmm...so far the only thing I have bugged by bugs are my artichokes....
better whisper that...

There is a thread about beetles I just read in the North East Forum.

I just did find my way back. :) Not a thing has annoyed me in quite some time. LOL

Baa, I'll happily translate for you any time. Americans talk funny! hahahahaha

San Jacinto County, TX(Zone 8a)

Jus stumbled in lol
My thoughts were, are; sort of personal, as to what bugs me.

Mostly it's mesef.
I wear trifocals which I can't do anything about.
I have no lower teeth and few upper which I could have done better with.
There are personal injurys that could have been prevented.

I say huh a lot cause I won't wear a hearing aid.
Haha, that's why I smile a lot!
Most that know me comment about how easy going I am.
-
Not wanting to make my friends unhappy I jus agree and with that comes belief.
I am a lucky, blessed person.

Liars, tailgaters, and people with no sense of personal responsibilty.

And cilantro, cause I can't stop killing it.

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

Poor cilantro...what did it do to you? Is this an uncontrollable urge, to kill it, or is it just too hot where you live? :-)

On the banks of the , VA(Zone 7a)

I am a cilantropath. ; P It sad but true.

According to knowledgable people in another thread, I sun it to death.

I am looking for a 12 step group.

Central FL, FL(Zone 9b)

Oh, go ahead and kill it! If it gets totally wiped out everywhere, that would mean I'd never have to smell it again nor have it slipped into meals where it shouldn't be. :)

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

bivbiv - I agree! I love the seed ground up as coriander but I don't like the leaves. According to the food expert on radio it's the most loved/hated flavor in the world.

Central FL, FL(Zone 9b)

I like coriander, too, and find it ironic that something you and I consider so awful could come from something so good. I know what you mean about its being loved/hated; when I say I hate it, the reaction from most people is, "WHAT??" LOL Didn't you post with me on this in the "What You Don't Like" thread, Pirl? :)

On the banks of the , VA(Zone 7a)

I can eat cilantro in salsas till I turn green.

My herb of disgust is dill. Seriously, what is UP with that? It stinks. It's icky. It tastes like mosquito repellant. It's just gross and all you dill eaters are weird, weird weird.

(I hope it comes across that I am kidding.)

Sadly, I can grow dill. My husband is Swedish. He actually likes it but he needs to clean his teeth at LEAST three times between ingestion and kissing me, or it ain't happening, baby. ; p

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

luna - I love dill. I can grab a bunch and bury my face in it - absolute heaven! Mixed in with Swedish meatballs and it's better than heaven.

Beer breath is yucky to me.

Bella Luna is our favorite New Orleans restaurant!

Central FL, FL(Zone 9b)

LOL I'm one of those weird people. At least you don't think your husband is too weird to be married to him! :)

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

So glad to hear others don't like cilantro!!! I tried my hand making homemade salsa and the recipe called for a handful of fresh cilantro (I'd never tried it) and boy was it disgusting!

Central FL, FL(Zone 9b)

Aimee, if you like parsley (which I absolutely love), it's a good substitute for cilantro. I was a weird child. When I'd go to a restaurant with my parents, I always ordered a veggie plate with extra parsley. Most people don't eat the parsley garnish, but I couldn't get enough of it!

When I lived in Miami, I used to have lunch in the office building where I worked at one time. I'd always ask for extra parsley, and all the servers got to know me. One day when my plate arrived, you couldn't see the food because it was literally covered with parsley! There was even a sprig of it in my Coke! It was set before me with a perfectly straight face, and the waiter asked, "Will there be anything else?" I was laughing inside, but I answered just as deadpan, "No, everything's fine." Later he came back, and we had a good laugh.

People that chew with their mouth open bug me. I have to move away from those people that snap and pop their gum for all to hear.

Oh, and finding empty containers, boxes or packages of food left in the fridge or the pantry--that bugs me as well.

Central FL, FL(Zone 9b)

Yikes, I'm with you on the chewing with the mouth open! I've worked with two different women who had the grace of pigs when it came to eating...just disgusting. One never shut up all day long, so she talked constantly while eating. The other just didn't seem to know that one chews with closed mouth. Unfortunately, these were jobs where we tended to have lunch on site, so it was hard to get away from this very unbeguiling sight sometimes!

Those who are small minded and don't see the larger scheme of things that happen to them and others.

So many things that annoy us now, in the present, will one day, as we mature and grow seem trifling

Joan

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Joan - I wish that were true when it comes to talking with food in the mouth. As a kid I'd almost gag seeing it and I'm no more tolerant of it now. It's repulsive at best.

(I turn a major speed limit in 8 days so I'm no youngster!)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Cilantro is fine in salsa but only 1-2 leaves in a good sized batch. Too much makes it taste like soap in my opinion.

Central FL, FL(Zone 9b)

LOL 1-2 leaves would make me gag in 5 gallons of salsa. I'll bet Pirl would agree, huh, Pirl? When ya don't like it, ya don't like it!

Joan, I know exactly what you mean. But I think what we're talking about here are simply life's little annoyances that bug us because we're only human. We know they're trifling. I don't think any of us consider these as important considerations in the grand scheme of our lives. Goodness knows I don't! I just spent three days in the hospital because I have a very serious heart problem. So I'd rather be distracted by complaining about people with bad manners than dwelling on my health.

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

Sorry to hear about that bivbiv! Please take it easy, I hope things with your heart can be mended soon?

Central FL, FL(Zone 9b)

Thanks, Aimee. I'll email you soon. I'm all right now. Just had a scare and a very unpleasant three days.

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

Bless you dear! Don't rush to anything on my account, you just do what the doctor ordered! ☺

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

bivbiv - My wishes for your good health. Hope they didn't put that cilantro in your hospital food.

With two leaves in five gallons of salsa I bet I'd get one of them - yucky.

MitchF of Dallas, TX sent me his salsa recipe last summer. Wonderful!

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

I adore cilantro, and this year mine went to seed before it gave me leaves! Hmmm, thinking about it, that's about always been the case! Too much sun, eh?

Chewing with mouth open....gag me with a spoon! Snapping gum as well, so I just stay away.

bivbiv, glad you're over the bad days and hope they are few in the future!

I'll have to ask Mitch for his recipe. I could eat good salsa like soup. Yum!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I have a vegetarian chili recipe that uses dried cilantro (along with other spices and herbs) - and it is one of our family's all-time favorite recipes. (Monterey Jack cheese is cut into cubes and placed in the individual bowls. The hot soup is ladled over it so it softens and melts the cheese into a wonderfully gooey, spicy concoction. Dried, the cilantro takes on a very different flavor and the soup wouldn't be the same without it.

I don't care as much for fresh cilantro - I think it's because I once let it go to seed in my herb patch, and the next year I spent hours pulling it out of the adjacent strawberry beds. The smell on my hands was "pungent" to say the least, and that cured me of any deep attachment to the fresh herb. But a little in my salsa is a good thing, still ;o)

Central FL, FL(Zone 9b)

Thanks for the good wishes.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

4paws - I'll dmail Mitch's recipe to you.

Terry..I think you broke the DG rules here. I mean, I know you're an Admin and all, but I'm fairly sure there are stringent punishments (like air bombing you with dandelion seed or something) for people who tell us about their yummy recipes and don't *post* them. *sigh* Surrender the recipe, or it's dandelion stew, wine, and jam for you. ; )

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Remind me this fall and I'll post it in the recipes forum. Right now it's too hot to think about soup, unless it's icy cold ;o)

On the banks of the , VA(Zone 7a)

Anticipation.. ;-D

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

Chili is good in the summer...heat the inside, cool the outside. I have a chili recipe with Anasazi beans and chipotle. I make a nacho topping by adding shredded and cubed cheese just before scooping it over chips. It's good in a hollowed out roll, too.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I love the idea of chili while it's hot out. Chipotle can make it feel like 109 in the shade when it's the middle of winter with 2' of snow on the ground.
