Maria, I was mowing the lawn yesterday when the mower 'accidentally' got decorated, LOL.
I thought of you.

Iris, That is evening primrose sundrops (your first picture) I used to be giving away divisions at my old house, Now I miss it. There is now a pale yellow one with more bloom time.

Sarahskeeper,
Thank you for the info on Kohlrabi, interesting. I guess I'll just have to try it, I like cauliflower, cabbage and broccoli, so im guessing i'd like this too.
About your hibiscus shrubs......any special tricks to growing it?? Should I mulch? This is my first tropical hibiscus shrub, not even sure it is hardy for my area, but I hope so! Like I said, it didn't have a tag so im winging it here!
Any advice would be appreciated. Celeste

I too called it just "sundrops" but my sister-inlaw recently informed me it was actually primrose. It is very invasive for me so I keep having to move some of it so that it doesn't take over the entire garden. Are you sure you miss it?? I have a mint plant that was so invasive I moved it to the wood line of my property so the neighbors could fight with it too! Actually I got permission first, im not that evil.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Pixie, I suspect your Hibiscus is Tropical (not hardy).
Check the lower stems, are they 'woody' or green like an annual.
If they are woody they are Tropical, unless it's a Rose of Sharon (same family).
If the stem is green all the way down to the ground it's probably a hardy one. They are herbaceous so all of this years growth will be young and green.

Here is the pretty Day Lily I missed yesterday. Again from seed, no name.

very nice sarahskeeper! I have yet to try on from seed.

The Sundrops are very pretty. I think the botanical name is oenothera. I got some new ones this Spring called Sunset Boulevard which have just started blooming. Will post some pictures tomorrow.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

I snapped this shot of my Oenothera 'Missouriensis' this morning.
An old very well behaved variety. This one is over 15 years old.

Andy, that last daylilly is pretty. I kind of shy away from bright orange, but that is a lovely shade. I have lots of buds, but no blooms yet. Other than Stella D'Oro, as you said. It's getting so, it's like looking forward to the yellow daffodils in spring. Now we have Stella for summer while we're waiting for everything else. I have a new Strawberry Candy that didn't bloom last year so I can't wait to see it.

Pixie...LOVE the hibiscus.

Iris, I'm jealous of the waterlilies. That pink one is very pretty. I live on a lake, but don't have my own 'pond'. I've been thinking about one of those patio pond things just so I could try some aquatic plants. Koi are probably out of the question, though. We have great blue heron that are regular visitors. gram

oh i need to get my camera working...
Beautiful everyone. Thanks for the pictures.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

what beautiful pics everyone. My garden is ablaze with color. Lilies, butterfly weed, various annuals like Morning glory, Lace Flower [Orlaya Grandiflora] and Lavatera

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Here is my Clematis 'Polish Spirit' again. Not full bloom yet but coming along.
Andy P

When I planted along this 'dog' fence I was hoping the Day Lilies would bloom at the same time as the Clematis. They are off by 10 days. Had I planted diploids they would have been on time but NOOOO, I had to have Tetraploids. Little did I know they are later....(Actually a couple of them are early enough but only a couple out of a dozen.)

Sarahskeeper,
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! Polish Spirit is just gorgeous! Makes me want to go out and purchase one. I have 3 different ones, the names escape me right now but they are "mini's" compared to that one. O.K. so now I have a goal. LOL
Todays blooms for me are an Oriental Dwarf Lily called "Color Parade" and a daylily I recieved in May of this year "Indy Long Legs". It's not very long legged if you ask me!

Does anyone else think this looks alot like "star gazer" ??

Anitabryk2,
Pictures? Please!!?? Your garden sounds lovely!

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Pixie, I see that it's raining up there.
If you just planted 'Long Legs' this Spring, I'd say it is doing very well. You will see a big improvement next season, I'm sure. They are both lovely.
My first Gaillardia 'Goblin'

Andy,
Love it...I have one too but it's not in bloom yet.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Pixie, I used to have a bunch of the 'Goblin' but they mostly died out. I hear rumors that if you continually deadhead them they are 'forced' to put out flowers all season rather than setting seed and being done.
This 'forced' flowering weakens them for the Winter and they may die or the crown will divide into many weak plants.
I deadhead the daylights out of them, I grow them for the flowers, after all. I've tried planting their seed but those get lanky.
Andy P

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Andy,
That explains why mine doesn't looks so good this year! I deadhead everything!
I have 2 plants of "Gazania" sunshine mix that I started from seed this spring. They are the only 2 that survived the wind and rain we had. I plant them every year for the flowers also and dead head the crap out of them too. They are annuals after all and I want as many of them in a season as they can possibly produce!!
Thank you for the info on "Goblin", i'll just have to treat it as an annual too.
Celeste

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Andy,
Goblin's pretty much a garden standard I believe, mine is a monster. Mine usually overwinter or reseed themselves. I transplanted some last year and boy was that odd - they are like spaghetti or pumpkin inards that you just pour back in to a hole.

Here's Fanfare

Al, That one looks like 'Fanfare'.
Pretty
Andy P

I tried 'Arizona Sun' last year. Every one died over the Winter except for a wimpy one in a pot.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Oh-oh. I planted half a dozen Arizona sun a couple weeks ago. maybe if I mulch'em good for the winter? I always mean to deadhead, but I'm pretty bad about keeping up, so maybe mine will get enough rest to hang in there. I put them in the back of a bed that faces the lake (just a small man made lake in the development that's really nothing but flood control), so there would be something bright that would show from the other side.

Dave47, Thanks for the up-date on the Primrose, I have extra if you want to start up what you left at your old house.
pixie, That 'Lake Norman Sunset is different, Neat color!
Sarahskeeper, pretty DL!
gardenobsestion, Would like to see the sunset boulivard primrose when you have time to post them.
SK, That 'Oenothera 'Missouriensis' is pretty!

ganpapa, Your going to really like the Strawberry Candy when it blooms, It's Very Pretty!! ~ My pond is almost in the middle of my front yard and suprisingly, I have never had a heron or any other visitor take any of the goldfish from the pond and it's been set up there a few years now. I think those patio ponds are really nice, Especially if you get the barrel type that offers you some depth, There are many minature pond lillys and catails and such that go great in those ponds!
nessigirl, Yes, Get the camera out :)
Anitabryk2, Sounds like you have a very nice flower bed!
SK, That 'Polish Spirit' clematis is beautifull!!
pixie, I think both those DL's are really pretty!
SK nice pic of your Gaillardia 'Goblin', I hhad these before but they seem to die on on me .
bigcityal and granpapa, Enjoyed the last 2 pics!

I know Stella D'Oro is not a DL thats very special to anyone, But I still think it's a pretty DL ...
