Wife person DW says we can hope
If I'm not wasted, Maybe!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Who in or around the West Houston area is going to be at breakfast? I still need to get the nametags to someone. I have a clipboard and some Sharpies to send along with them, too. You guys will have to pull straws to see who gets to be the greeter-and-sticker this time. :-) I'm sorry I can't come... We're planning on coming in the spring, though, if Dave hosts another one! :-)

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

Marylyn_Tx, if someone else doesn't pick them up fr you, I could see if Smock could meet up with you. He lives in Katy, between Fry & Mason, & is going to breakfast.
LMK

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

That would work great, Smockette.. We can either meet him in Katy or somewhere halfway any day except tonight and tomorrow evening. Let me know what time/day works best for him. Thanks!!! :-)

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Only 3 more days!
Looking forward to meeting everyone. :-)

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

You guys have a great time and don't forget to take the digital cameras! Photos are a necessary part of the experience for those of us who backed out on the fun this go round! :-((

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi ya'll. I've been reading the thread and wishing I could go. Sometimes I think I'll just take off and go and then I think again and say you've got to be crazy. I can't take off the whole weekend like I did in the spring. It was one wonderful weekend and many thanks to Kim for putting up with us in her spare room. She was a great hostess! If I went it would have to be for just Sat. and that's a really long drive from Fredericksburg. But I do have plants that need to go to the RU. Is anybody going that might be going through Fredericksburg on the way? Or maybe somebody that lives close enough that I could take my plants to them? I have golden thryalis, datura, and a shrub that has dark green leathery leaves. Htop gave it to me and I have no idea what it is.
I can't believe all this news about surgeries. Sheila, is your back getting better? And Sylvia, is yours getting worse or better?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Marylee! We've been worrying about you. We're so glad to see you back! :-) Come over here http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/652159/#new and set everyone's minds at rest. :-)

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

HI Marylee!! We have been missing your posts for sure! Nice to see you are still on DG, hope you or the family haven't been ill.
I was suffering if you remember last spring at CS, but finally got relief with back surgery, but the Dr is sending me for another MRI Monday. I still have a bit of pain and he wanted to make sure all was well before he gives me a full release.
Sylvia hasn't had surgery, but the Dr. has wanted her to have hip replacement surgery for a while I believe. She was in the hospital because of serious inflamation in the hip joint, and it isn't getting better. So she needs our prayers to heal.

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

I've been hemming and hawing about coming. I was hoping Connie could come with me, but she's got weekend plans already. I'd be happy to ride with, or give a ride to anyone is heading that way from Southeast Texas to conserve gas. Dmail me and we'll work out details. I've never been to College Station so this will be quite the adventure for me.

Janet

ps I'll be bringing Penelope, the sculpture, made here on Dave's Garden in the Artisans Forum, with me.

Marylee....so good to hear from you! I'm sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well.....it's always hard when we can't get into our gardens. I do hope you are able to come to the next RU!

Janet....beautiful sculpture!!

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

Thank you Kim! We are quite proud of her.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

Janet, just b/c your plans are late falling into place, don't think you are too late for any of this 'gala'.
Ck the Tradelist Thread & get your requests in. We will go thru your stuff when you get there. lol
So glad you are going to be able to join us!

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

Great, Janet! It will be a very good experience. We will be staying over to visit the Antique Rose Emporium the following day. We have been there before and it was great!

trois

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Sheila, I do remember you talking about back surgery. Some kind of new technique? I'm glad you're better. Back pain is really the pits.
I've been thinking about Sylvia alot too. Everytime I look at my hosta collection I remember that wonderful meal we had. And the company was even better!
Janet, if there's any way you can swing it, go for it. You'll be hooked on RU's!
Kim I never even thanked you for sending my hat. I think we owe you another breakfast or something. Tom laughs at me everytime he sees me in that hat. How is your family?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

trois,

If you're still planning to bring some Waltzing Ladies Hibiscus cuttings, I'd sure like a couple.

Amelia

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Ohhh....me too! Me too!!

:) Kim

Looks like we've got decent weather and a good number of folks who are coming!

I'll be getting there around 10am and anyone is welcome to come at that time, or even earlier (no harm in getting there early).

dave

Katy, TX(Zone 8b)

Dave if you still have some waltzing lady hibiscus, I would like to try some. Thx.

Ann

Katy, TX(Zone 8b)

wanted to add that we should be there around 10 am.

It's Trois who has those. :)

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

I will bring a few extras. These are fresh cuttings. I will cut them in the morning just before we leave.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Didn't want to have to fight them off for mine. lol

trois, Please set one aside for me, too, if you have enough. :)

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

Will do.

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

I'd love one of those too Trois.

I'm bringing ....

From Connie's (maidentheshade) Garden:

A Pencil Plant
Donkey's Ears
Stapia Succulent - I believe that's what Connie called it

Seeds:
Pride of Barbados
Seedlings: Devil's Trumpets
I need to remember to go back by Connie's and pull some of her seed pods. She's got a ton of them.

From My Garden: (as much as I can dig up/cut between now and the time I leave)
Cannas
Aloe Vera
Basket Plant
Jade
Mexican Petunias
Elephant Ears
Schefflera
Hooker's Orchid Cactus - Night Blooming Cereus
Ric Rac Cactus
Spider Airplane Plants - Non-Varigated
Potato Vine Seeds
Cassia - Candlestick Plant Seedds
Pink Ice Cuttings
A variety of coleuses, or is that coleui :-)
Banana Trees
Mother of Millions

AND Whatever else I can find that needs a good "haircut".
It won't be long before I have to "park" some of these plants in tight confinement for a while. I'm happy to cut back just about anything I have.

Can't wait to meet you folks.

Janet

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

You are going to be busy.

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

Nah, Connie's are already done, but for the going to get the pods.

I'll just park a pond form in my truck and bring out the plants from the back yard. I've got cutters and a spade and plenty of planters. Even have 4 bags of soil sitting on the side of the house. I'll just make myself assembly line (for 1 person) and git'er'done! No problemo! HAHAHAHA

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

Hmmmmm?

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

I have 3 empty pond forms, at the moment. I might as well put at least one of them to good use. They'll make it easy to slide the plants into and out of my truck. There is a camper on the back. I will do just about anything to avoid crawling deep into the depths of that back end. :-)

Janet

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

I understand.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Janet....I see a couple things on your list I'd like:

donkey's ears
pride of barbados seeds
pink ice cutting
potato vine seeds
banana tree-which kind is this?

Please take a look at my list on the CSRU trade page: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/657998/

Also, I think your succulent is a stapeliad. Do you know what color flowers it has? I might also like some of that.

Thanks so much!

Kim

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

I'll be sure you get those Kim. I've got the CRS Syndrone, so you'll have to remind me what you want when I get there. :-) The only thing I won't have a whole bunch of is the Pride of Barbados seeds. Connie has these and there was only one seed pod that was ready to pluck. I put the pod into my pocket this afternoon. A little while later, I remembered it and went looking for an envelope to put it in. The seeds had already come loose into my pocket. There were 6-7 seeds. I put them in a packet. I'll look for more tomorrow when I go get the pods for the purple devil's trumpets.

I could probably get a few cuttings of Connie's Dragon's Blood also. I don't think she will mind.

I'd love to have, if you have any left:

orange cosmos seedlings
passion vine - Incense. I already have the other 2.
thunbergia grandiflora - I've never seen this.... that I know of
pink perennial hibiscus (dinnerplate variety, large pink flowers with red eye)
1 cardomom ginger

As for the stapeliad, if that's what it is.... this is a photo I took of it earlier this year. We call this the toenail plant because it looks like dog toenails. :-)

This plant was found at one of the dealerships that Connie tints windows. It was in a bucket of water. Within just a short time of Connie bringing it home and planting it, it bloomed. The bloom was gorgeous. Spotted deep eggplant colored dots on cream background. The bloom only lasted a day or so. I didn't smell it, but Connie said it stuck like nobody's business. The bloom is a white balloon until it opens. Very pretty and papery looking. The plant has prospered and when we were looking around for plants today, it has doubled or even tripled in the amount of "leaves". We cut some off and put them in a pot for me to bring. We sure have a habit of rescuing plants. :-)

I will bring some pride of Barbados seeds.

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

That Pride of Barbados is one beautiful plant. Connie and I first saw it in San Antonio when we evacuated there last year. One of my Mom's very best friends has some in her back yard. She gave us both some seeds. Connie planted her seeds first. They sat there and sat there. A few months later, I planted mine. Mine took off and were about a foot tall. Then I had a problem with Black Sooty Mold and I had to move them. I put them into a pot that didn't have very good drainage. They are still about a foot tall.... and pretty sad looking. Connie's, on the other hand, finally took off and she had blooms!!! We both love those orage and red fiery blooms. Someone in Connie's neighborhood has 8-10 of them in front of their house. It's a traffic stopper, for sure!

For those unfamiliar with the Pride of Barbados, this is a photo of one of Connie's.

Janet....I will put you down for those plants as well. Thanks so much for trading! If possible, I would like a piece of that stapeliad as well. The flower sounds interesting!

That pride of barbados is beautiful!

:) Kim

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

One other fabulust thing about Pride of Barbados is that in the dead heat of the summer these things are thriving and look awesome when everything else is trying to hang on for dear life.

Fabulous and gorgeous plant. Nice photo UniqueTreasures.

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks!

I don't see mine doing much this year. I can only hope mine look as good as Connie's next summer.

There are 5-6 "arms" of the stapeliad Kim. Your name is on at least one of them. I found another photos of it with the blooms, unopened.

Get some more of that if you want Janet when you come by for the purple devils trumpet seeds. Here's the bloom.

Wish I was going! Yall have fun.

Thanks for posting the photo Connie.

It's different than I remembered. Sure is a pretty bloom. Must have been the one that *I* have that I described. I was lucky to see mine bloom this year. My plant isn't nearly as big as Connie's though and must be of a different variety. Then again, I've slept several times since then. :-) I'll cut a few more pieces of that to bring with me. I hope you won't mind if I sneak some of the dragon's blood also. I forgot all about that until I was looking for the photo to post last night. The dragon blood is shown below.

I'm so glad it's cool here this morning. That will make the cutting and potting much more pleasant that it would have been last weekend.

Have fun in Galveston Connie!
