The November, 2006 Roundup in College Station

Meadows Place, TX(Zone 9a)

City_Sylvia and friends, been missing ya'll too. Usually have time at the end of the day to do a quick read then go to bed. Many crazy things have happened in the last 3 months. My DW had surgery - section of small intestine removed and now I may have 3 disks in my neck going bad. Xrays don't look good and having a MRI next week then see a neurologist. So far been able to just pick weeds and water.....no mowing, edging, diging, etc. Yea, going crazy.

And don'cha know this little critter is blooming out and wanting to get in the ground if I can decide on a place and get a kid to dig the hole.

That is beautiful kipper. I am terribly sorry to hear about you and your DW's health problems. I hope that someone will be thoughtful and offer to plant it for you. Wishing better health to both of you. :-)

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I can feel your pain Kip. When I was at the CS RU, I was having super back and leg pain. Just had two herniated disc repaired on the 1st, and feel better already. It has been almost unbearable not to be able to bend down and pull a weed, plant, mow the yard, etc. My DH hates working in the yard, but he has done a super job since I have been out of touch with nature. Hope you get relief soon and can get back to "normal" soon. Hope you are able to make the Nov. RU.

Dallas, TX

I think we all are just falling apart ... its a an age thing ... we just have to deal with it! I just pray i dont have to take any pain pills at this RU, because the next time I might not wake up in time for someone to find me or ... some one steal the car with me in it! LOL ... no such luck....I promise that I will try not to be a burden ... or ... need any baby sitting! LOL I might just go get me a shot in the hip before I leave Dallas.

Or maybe just ride with us, and not take as many plants! LOL!!

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Sheila, I hope your back pain gets better soon. You have been in my thoughts. Recovery can be a long process, hang in there!

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the roundup. I should probably plant some radishes this weekend so I have a few ready in time.
Bob

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

I will not be attending the round up. I have lost the other half of me, The one who makes me complete. My beloved Dennis past away fri. I will never be the same as long as this body keeps functioning.

Blessings to you all,
Sandy ^8^

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

We would all do the same I am sure Sandy, it is too soon. It will take time to get the void you feel to be less painfull. Continue to stick close to your family there for now, you DG family will be here for you when you are ready. Just know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
Sheila

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Ditto exactly what Sheila said. We love you, Sandy!!

Love and prayers,

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

For what it is worth, and it might not be much, but your better half . well..... Has completed you. You are in some part a whole because of what the other half has given and that will always be who you are today and tomorrow to come. It hurts and I am sorry for your loss. My prayers are for you. God Bless.

calvin

Katy, TX(Zone 8b)

Bless you Sandy. Know that it seems hard now and I have complete empathy for you. Ive had my DH for 51 years now and without him I would not feel complete either. Much love and best wishes that time will at least begin to heal you.

Ann

Dallas, TX

Sandy Sweetheart you are not alone in this, we are all in this together and we feel you pain. I think Calvin put it in a better perspective, you have not lost your better half, Dennis completed you and he will always be part of you ... even when your pain diminshes ... and it will. I pray for your comfort.

Sandy, my heart is saddened with your news. I will thinking of you with compassion, sending you strength and understanding as I can. Please remember that your extended family here at Dave’s are always with you for support and virtual hugs. I will miss seeing you and your beautiful persona at the RU. When the date of the RU comes around, think of making the trip. I’m sure that we would be able to help lift your spirits and help you remember all the good times ya’ll had together.

XOXOXO !!

Yes Sandy ... please think about making the trip ... I feel Dennis would have wanted you to be there.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

Bless you Sandy.

Hi,
This will be my first time at the roundup. I can't wait to meet everyone.... Is there a trade list posted anywhere?
I will have a few painted terra cotta pots, church birdhouses made out of old fence wood to trade. Not sure which plants I will be bringing yet.
Trishann

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi Trishann, I see you aren't new to DG, just new to the RU I guess. Look forward to meeting you there. As for a trade list, I don't think I have seen one either. Your craft items sound very interesting!
Sheila

Bastrop, TX(Zone 8b)

I hope to come, if work allows. It will be my first DG event to attend. I have several agaves and a whole bunch of a spiny succulent (don't know its name) that need new homes. If someone doesn't help themself to them first, I'll want to bring'em to the RU. Not looking forward to diggin' them up myself though.

I created a tradelist thread here:

I will be posting my list later, I am too busy right now with the Dallas swap and the San Antonio swap.
Josephine.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm not going to be able to come... Too many things happening that same weekend. But I can make name tags and get them to Debbie if you'd like. Should I make the same ones or tweak them a bit? Any opinions? :-)

US, too. Everything happens at the same time. DW and I will be at Wurstfest in NB. But we will have one (or more) in honor of the DG'ers at the RU.

If anyone wants seeds for Cilentro, Dill, or Chile Pequino - D-mail amd I will send. Have over a cup of each of those, and the fall crop is already 5" tall.

Will miss those radishes, Bob. Mine are bolting, but the greens are great. Mix with some of your Lamb's Quarter, parsley, mustard, etc. Steam for a couple, and chow down.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

Let Them radishes bolt, the seed pods while they are tender are delightful raw or cooked. Like a cross between and english pea and a radish.

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

I have been trying this evening to make a hotel reservation for the RU. No rooms to be had. A&M is playing Oklahoma at Kyle Field at 1:00 Saturday, Nov. 4.

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

I had the same problem for the same reason.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

There are other little towns around CS that should have rooms. Have you tried any of them for a room?
We have to find you rooms! If you need some help,LMK.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

ARE is also having a huge function that weekend as well as the scarecrow festival in Chappell Hills.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Not sure how much it will help....but I can offer up my spare bedroom with air mattress again if anyone is interested. Silverfluter and her husband stayed with me for the spring roundup. It's not a hotel but it is a place to stay and it's free. I do have a dog and two cats....so anyone with allergies may have some trouble here. Just let me know.

Thanks, Kim

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Best Western in Brenham still had rooms this morning and even had the senior rate available, so we are back on track. I hope to go to the ARE on Friday, and we want to stay away from football "enthusiasts" that evening, so Brenham is a good spot for us to spend the night.

Kim, you are so sweet to offer your extra room, and we would have taken you up on it if Robert were not a bit mobility impaired right now. The pets certainly would not have been a problem as we have a Great Pyr, who sleeps in some nights, and three inside cats.

See you soon!
Patricia

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

The two of us have reserved a room in the Brenham Best Western for the 3rd and 4th. We hope to see everyone there!

trois

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

I just added another night to our reservation so we will be at the Best Western in Brenham the 3rd and 4th as well.

Spring, TX(Zone 9b)

We can probably find something in Tomball. If we want to relocate. There are quite a few parks. Anyone want to relocate? Hey, push comes to shove. Comma onna my house!??? Actually we can find a place, np.

If we're going to relocate, I'd appreciate some notice since I paid $200 to reserve the park and they won't refund it if I don't give enough cancellation notice. It might already be too late. If we're not going to have this roundup, though, let's please decide in the next couple days.

dave

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

No desire here to relocate. The Brenham motel at which we reserved a room is excellent for the ARE and close to College Station. We are planning to make a long week-end of it and enjoy seeing old and new DG friends. Dave, is it okay for me to start a thread for a potluck lunch the day of the RU? We had a great RU in Arlington last Sunday, and another is going on in San Antonio tomorrow. You and Trish outdid yourselves last spring, but we all want to help put this event on.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I agree Pat--I had planned on doing the ARE stuff Friday and another party that Saturday night in Navasota after the RU. I go to Tomball all the time; but don't get to Independance/College Station/Navasota everyday. Not that my opinion usually matters much...

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

No relocation at this time please. I think it would be too late to notify every one, and I see no problems. There are plenty of rooms within less than an hours drive. Some have plane reservations and would likely be unable to get a refund.

Spring, TX(Zone 9b)

It was just a thought, ..... It is up to Dave of course.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I for one plan on coming down just for the swap this year. It is only about a 3 1/2 hr drive. We were exhausted after the swap and then the restaurants were packed and we had to wait in line forever for a table. (College town and Sat. night) But the food and company made it worth the wait and very enjoyable. This time we will head toward home then stop and eat later. Guess I could do like Sylvia and take a nap in my car!
Sheila

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

Or if you got board, you could lock your keys in the car! roflol
You just had to be there!
