My sister and I will also be there!! I"m SO excited to be meeting you Texas gardeners!! Flying in to DFW Friday evening and driving to CS early Saturday morning.
Our plan is to bring a big pot of soup...I might get chilly, ya know?
The November, 2006 Roundup in College Station
I will be there, and hopefully I can convince my husband to come with me. :) Food TBD...
31 and growing!!
I would love to come to the RU, Nov 4. The only directions I have are to go to Hwy. 290, then take Hwy. 6 north to College Station. From there what - just float in or what? Seriously, where's Southwood Pavillion once I get to CS? Google didn't help. Didn't know enough to tell it the full directions. Probably will have to talk DDH into going as a DGer was unable to go or come alone :>((. Have relatives coming in that day but they are going to Renaissance Festival and we are being used as a B & B.
Ann
Southwood Pavillion is at 1600 Rock Prairie Rd. in College Station. According to MapQuest, the Rock Prairie Rd. exit is 38.4 miles from where you turn onto Hwy 6. Turn west on Rock Prairie and go about 1/2 mile to the pavillion. Just a few days now! Looking forward to meeting you!

Thanks for the directions patrob.
Thanks!!
Ann
Well things have changed, Posie4U nor I will be making the trip. Hope you all have as much fun as we did last Spring. We both plan to make it down for the one in the Spring for sure!!!!
So the count is still at 31.
We've had a conflict crop up too. Hope to see all of you later on.
Everyone is dropping like flies. Due to the lack of interest, I think I will wait to make the drive up another time when there is more interest.

I hate to sound like a total air head, but I'm way out of the loop. Been too busy to read much of the forum. Can someone help me out with the details of a round up?
i.e.
What all happens at the round up? What is the fee? How long does it last? What would I be expected to bring? etc.
I'd appreciate it,
Melody
Lack of interest or lack of plants?
Well I wasn't going to spend the night like I did in the spring, and that meant a long drive down and back. Posie was going with me, but cancelled; and I am glad she did. It made me stop and think. I just had back surgery the first of September. If I had problems I wouldn't have anyone to switch off with me. Then ....yes, there is definately a lack of plants. We had the swap here just last month, and I don't have much to offer. But I will be down in the spring next year. It was a lot of fun and nice to put names and faces together.
Sheila
With everyone dropping out like this, I wouldn't expect another one next spring. Something to trade is not necessary. Showing up is.
trois
Melody - there isn't a fee at all. A round up is a gathering a DGers at a park in College Station. I believe that Dave has reserved the park and he paid for that. You can bring anything gardening related and/or just yourself. Food is going to be a potluck style, so you will probably want to take a dish.
Sheila - I certainly don't blame you for putting your recovery first, take it easy girl. There will be more roundups whether they will be Statewide or not and you will have plenty of opportunity to meet others. I hope you are doing ok lately with your back.
Debbie - I think there were plenty of offers of plants from Josephine and others. I for one don't have many plants available to offer which plays part of my reason for not going. I have been overwhelmed with work lately and gardening has unfortunately had to take a lesser priority.
Trois - It is hard to make predictions, maybe the timing just isn't working out right for people. Everyone has lives and this is a busy season for people.
Well, I hope you are wrong Trois. I would love to come down next Spring.
Well, if there is only 6 (exaggeration), I'm coming & bringing my other 3. I don't have a lot of grown plants but I've planned my CR-V full including my luggage rack on top. I have even got trades promising & promised. I really feel like I am in the swing of things. You will have to ck my Trade List for my goodies!
Heck, the 1st Texas RU was held @ Lake Texoma on the OK side of the lake & I went. If Floridan is coming fr Lutz, I can come fr Magnolia. I feel blessed that I can make up my mind to visit with my DG family & be able to go do it.
10-4 on the recent surgery & you have been doing double duty on the wkends, Sheila. But we will sure miss you! Sylvia is another one that needs to take it easy but I'm still trying to encourage her to come! Your right we had such a good time in Apr, I hate to think I have to wait til then to see everyone.
Just my 2 cents.
Bump.......
Would everyone that mentioned this summer that you would be coming, please confirm that you plan on attending?
I counted 22+/- that are not on the current 'tentative' headcount,
Guilty conscience is setting in...I am back in.
I will post my trades on the tradelist.
I was just wondering if anyone wanted to get together for breakfast somewhere like we did for the spring roundup? Or perhaps dinner somewhere afterward if that is easier? Also, is there anyone planning on going to ARE on Sunday?
Thanks, Kim
Glad you mentioned breakfast! I was also wondering. Ryan's Steak House, again?
I need to feel my stomach b4 I get into all this plant stuff. I get so excited over the plants, I forget to eat. lol
I think it was Golden Corral we went to before. Seemed to work well, easy to find and lots to choose from. My favorite meal for going out to eat has always been breakfast...not sure why.
:) Kim
Time?
Hmmm.....I guess it would depend on the time we need to be at the roundup. I think last year we started around 10 or 10:30, so maybe 8:30 or 9 would be good?
Kim
Time sounds good to me. Anyone else want to meet us for breakfast?
I know a few said they are coming in Friday so they might want to meet us also.

I am sorry we can't join you, we will probably get there around noon.
Josephine.
We will. 8 AM sounds good for us. How do you get there?
trois
The easiest way I can think of to tell you is to take hwy 6 to the University Ave exit. Go towards campus, Golden Corral will be on the lefthand side across from Albertson's. I think it is the 6th light but not positive on that.
:) Kim
It's so nice that y'all have gotten down to the nitty gritty of the RU
Ann
Here is the map for the Golden Corral we met at last time:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=700%20University%20Dr%20E,%20college%20Station,%20TX
I don't see hiway 6. Is it the same as Texas Ave?
if you look at the top right part of the map, you will see a large yellow rd labeled "S. Earl Rudder Fwy". This is Hwy 6.
It's a little confusing.....there is Hwy 6 and then there is Business 6. Business 6 is Texas Ave. If you come from the east, you will see a lefthand exit just past the Rock Prairie exit that you will take to get to the roundup. There is a sign that says Texas A&M University exit here or something like that. If you take that exit, you will be on Business 6, aka Texas Ave. You can follow this all the way to University Ave, then turn right and follow that to Golden Corral.
If you do not take the lefthand exit and continue on Hwy 6, then take the University Ave exit and go left.
The first time my mom and I visited the area we got completely lost....Ohio doesn't have business routes or feeder roads.
Hope that helps some! Kim
Trois, if you get there first, how about getting us a room? That way as the 4 corner drivers come in, we can all sit together!
Thanks Kim. First arrival picks a room for eating breakfast!
Thanks!
:~)
Hi all -
I held off until I knew I could come and am so looking forward to my first RU! One thing I haven't seen - when does it start? I can't make breakfast, but will see everyone at the park. I started some cuttings in mid August in hopes that this would work with family "maybe in town." I'll post on the plant thread and the food thread in a bit.
Hope our weather is as spectacular as it was last weekend! So count me in!
Nancy
Ameila and I will be there, but not for breakfast. The procedure on my neck is Friday late afternoon (@ 3:00pm) so I think that the best way to "take it easy" is to be sitting down with a bunch of like minded folks shooting the bull.
Kip
PS: Bringing a bunch of rootings of Native White Passion Vine and Pink Hearty Hydrangea. Both could be considered INVASIVE. Also bringing seeds of the September Rose Hibiscus, also invasive.
See ya'll there
