The November, 2006 Roundup in College Station

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Debbie, Yes. I will take/want it. Thank you.

Hi all - what's a roundup like? What is the day like and what should I bring to trade? Potted plants or cuttings? Sounds like a huge "enabler" event!! What fun!
Nancy

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Oh it is fun!

It is like a family gathering.. of sorts. We eat, we swap, we talk , and we crawl home with cars full of plants and dreams of next near dancing in our heads...

Plants or cuttings both could work - rooted cuttings help some of us are cutting challenged!

This is a great enabler event!

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm hoping to be there with bells on. I have planted lot's of seeds in 4" pots but don't want to offer anything up until I actually see sprouts. And I've taken LOTS of cuttings....trying to root.

The one thing I can say for sure I will have is Elephant Ears and Four O'Clocks. I want to get rid of them. If there is no interest, in the garbage they will go.

I'm trying to start from seed: Esperanza, Purple Daturas, an unknown day lily, liatris, south african foxglove

From cuttings: butterfly bush, cuphaea (not bat-faced), st. john's wort, jade, string of pearls, string of banannas, desert willow, vitex, esperanza (orange), mint, rosemary, oregano, arabian jasmine, stapelia (starfish flower)

transplants and bulbs that will be ready to go: elephant ears, four o'clocks, ruellia (short and tall), maybe a few crepes (have to watch them for a while), basil

There is a possibility I can't make it. November is a hectic month for our family. If I can't I'll try to get with the closest DG member and take my plants to them for sharing.

Kristi

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

I will be there if at all possible!

Debbie...is "bumping" when you just enter something on the thread so it "bumps" to the top of the forum??

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Connie, you are right. When a thread is inactive, it slips down on the list. To keep it in the forefront members will "bump" and it will appear on the first page of a forum. The "sticky" posts are set in place by Dave after getting permission. That is a thread that is relevant on a consistant basis such as the (Texas Native Plants & Wildflowers) one Frostweed has going.
It took me a while to understand what sticky & bump was too. LOL!

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks, Sheila!! Hope to meet you at the RU!!

Connie

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

One of them for sure Connie.

Knolan, you have quite a list there. Keep watching this thread and they will post a link for a "plant list haves & wants" as it gets closer to the date. Look forward to meeting you also.
Sheila

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Mitch - sounds like lots of fun. I think I can come - will wait closer to the date, but I'll get cuttings going and some seeds, too. Kristi - your list is great! Gives me some good ideas and I'll get started. Oh boy... better clear some garden space between now and then.

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

I am hoping to make it to this one. I really want to make it to the ARE fall festival too. My plans were to be at the spring Roundup, but something came up. I'm going to try to make sure that does not happen this time. :)

Not sure what I will have to share. Most of my stuff is struggling in pots, but I am going to try to get some cuttings started soon.

Staci

Houston, TX(Zone 8b)

I've never been to a RU, and I am a fairly new DG member, so I will try my best to attend. Sounds like a lot of fun. I am a very introverted person, so it will do me some good to get out and socialize, especially with other people who love plants! I am starting to experiment with rooting cuttings, so I'll see what I can get to root. Hopefully I'll have a decent variety of plants to trade. :)

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Greenbud...what a great username, BTW....:)

Don't worry about having lots to trade...I remember people in the spring asking if they had to have "so many" plants to trade, and people said "Just come and meet everyone!" That's what I'm going to do this time, as I have no time to do cuttings/rootings/grafts, etc. as I'm still planting a new yard! However, if I see a great sale at a nursery closeout, I"ll keep others in mind!

Hope to see ya there and welcome to DG...I only joined in April and now it's like part of my daily existence!!

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

I went to the spring RU, as a newby, and I encourage you all to go! It is a great way to put faces to names, and everyone is so nice. (Gardeners tend to be that way.) And don't wory about not taking anything - there will be lots of stuff there, and you will have a hard time not coming home with something, even if you have nothing to trade! Trust me, nobody wants to go back home with anything that they brought!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Very true, CJ be telling the truth! The swaps I have gone to where strangers were around, people were giving their leftovers to them as we were leaving. LOL!
I have picked up a few orphans myself, and left a few!!

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

Also, in case anyone is being shy because they have nothing to bring, come anyway. We will try to be there, even if all we have is seeds.

trois

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

And I have lots of seeds to contribute! Actually, I started lot's of babies a month ago (36 to be exact) and I've had only one germinate. Bummer. Patience is a virtue.

I'm definitely coming to this one; however, the Oct date may be in peril of being consumed by the need to work.....at least at this moment; if you know who my employer is, then you know that could change in 5 minutes.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

still interested and the whole month is shaded for the event. waiting for more definite plans , day, time, and wasn't a member last year so knew nothing about the RU which leads to my not knowing the location as to where it will be. I think I remember reading that the RU will be at the same place as last year.?

I am very excited to post that I will be attending also. I don't have a lot of plants as this is my first year to get serious about gardening. Most of everything I have is annuals. I purchased a few perennials this spring that are doing great. I can make some cuttings of those so that I can contribute some plants. I have a couple different cupheas, yellow and red shrimp plants, blue plumbago, mexican firebush and yellow and orange ixora. The annuals I have are caladiums, pentas and coleus. If some of you more experienced gardeners could let me know if any of these things would make it until next spring, I would be happy to share what little I have with anyone. I am looking forward to meeting you all.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I have the vitex for you Merae and its doing great...do you still want it?

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Absolutely, Debbie. Thank you so much!

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Merae,
is your DH going with you? Boy, I sure would enjoy going with you, but alas, the 4th is my step mom's bday celebration (actual bday 10/31), BIL's bday celebration(actual bday 10/28), Niece's BIG bday celebration (actual bday 11/5) and my wedding anniversary celebration (11/2). So you could say that I'm a bit booked up that weekend! Hopefully I can make it to the next one.

Y'all take lots of pictures for me please!

Michelle
