Mighty Plant....Before and after.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

okay..Vossner..yes thats what I was wondering...reason was, when I ordered the stuff..I didn/t know the messenger was a foliar spray.
Was just making sure, I read the directions correctly on the MP.

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

You can get a decent 1 gallon Ortho Sparyer at Wallyworld (walmart) for 8.99. I would to that route. MP is also best applied foliar.

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Do I put one packet of MP in the hose end sprayer; fill with water and then what setting should the the dial go on; or do I have to put several packets in?

Thank You

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

It's not that kind of sprayer. It's one you pump and then press a button for a fine mist. You will love the results.

Hi Arlene, :)

I think I read somewhere that you shouldn't use a hose end sprayer to apply. Maybe Robin will come back by and let us know.

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

Yep, you are right Brinda. Best not to use a hose end sprayer to apply Mighty Plant or Messenger because so much water and product end up going on the ground and not used by the plant. It wastes your product and money. I would get an inexpensive pump sprayer like Sidney suggested and just put a fine mist on the leaves of the plant. Any that drips off is wasted.

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

We have one of those pump sprayers; I think DH has used it to spray round-up~how does one clean it to get the residue out? Soak with bleach water?

Thank you

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

NOooooooooooo! Please don't use the RU sprayer!! No matter how well you clean it there will be residue in there. Best to go get a new one. Put a label on there that says NO HERBICIDES and use it to spray Messenger, insecticides, and fungicides. You can also use it for fertilizers and things like alfalfa tea. No matter what, only use your herbicide sprayer for herbicides. Never use it for anything else.

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

Glad you jumped in and explained that one...My daughter lost a few of her rose bushes that way..I tried to tell her so now she learned a lesson...Mom's right some of the time..!!

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Oh! OK

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

If you have a Home Depot around, check them out. I picked up a 1 gallon pump sprayer for about $13 yesterday. It was the premium one, with a metal wand and pressure release valve. They had one for about $9 that was the basic model.

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

I Knew I should have gotten that one I saw at Wal Mart,,,,,I'll get there again. In the mean time, I guess it's a water bottle sprayer that's set on the finest mist possible,,,ooooo, my hands gonna hurt,,,LOL

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

That's what I am using right now, and my hands did hurt after pumping out FOUR bottles of mist. LOL

I am going to use the bigger sprayer next time. Might be heavier to lug around but much easier I think.

So far I have had great results with my Messenger.

BTW, Mighty Plant is a soil drench, Messenger is the foliar.

Susan,

i have a 2-1/2 gal. pump sprayer and i tie it on a cart [like those the airline pilot and flight stewardess put their luggage into], that way i do not have to carry the load. i bought extra stretch tie at 99 cents store to hold the pump tight to the cart. hope that help u.

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

It's either been raining or windy everytime I have a chance to spray, so haven't done it yet. I'm thinking I'll have to take off work just to spray,,,,LOL We have one of those gallon sprayers, but I don't know what Bill used it for.

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

Ma,

Great idea.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

GG_WI,

thank you, as i get older, i have to be innovative in the garden so i do not hurt myself. i got enough aches and pains, i need not add more to it. LOL.

i read somewhere that thripmaster mentioned something to the effect that as long as Messenger had opportunity to stay on the leaves for 30 mins. before the plant get rained... it should be ok. sorry there are one too many threads on Messenger, i lots track as to which one it is. u know i always try to back up info to support what i say.

Dem: Messenger is rainfast in 30 minutes. So as long as it had at least 30 minutes on the leaves before it rained, you should be fine.

a friend was also worried about the rain if and when he/she will use Messenger for foliar feeding. i wish i knew which thread that was!

BOTH messenger AND Mighty Plant are meant to be applied by a fine mist sprayer.
They are both Harpin protiens and the Mighty Plant has a Peter's type fertilizer meant to be applied to the foliage, but can be drenched. It only makes a gallon per packet, so that would keep one busy mixing and is very effective used as a foliar spray.
I use it about every 10 days if I'm in town.
Shield weeds from the overspray. I let some get on the wild Boston fern in the yard and some of the swords are 50 inches long. They are usually 12 - 18 inches.
I sprayed Messenger on most of my plants last Thursday evening and I am so glad since on Friday JaxFlaGardener decided to throw a impromptu Plant give away today and my yard always gets toured since I'm only six blocks away.
My yard and flowers are all just a jumping.
One Brug has thrown out half dozen blooms.
Do not use a sprayer that might have had Round-Up or some other herbicide in it.
Buy a 1 gallon pump sprayer for less that $10 at WM. You wont be disappointed and will look like a real green thumb gardener.

Sidney,

Even though our visit was a short one, I managed to see your garden, and can attest to the fact that all your plants and flowers are a'jumpin!!

Don't exactly remember the last time I was there, but gf, that island is looking extraodinary....pictures don't do it justice.

2 weeks ago, I sprayed everything with Mighty Plant, and on Wednesday I will spray everything with Messenger.

I simply can't seem to wait 3 weeks between sprayings, and as long as the plants don't mind it, either do I!

Ma,

I Thought I read that somewhere,,,thanks for finding it.

okay....but, but...but...when I read the direction on the MIghty Plant..which I am presuming is MP- it said to mix in 1 gallon of water- nothing about foliar application. I even put on my glasses..hehe.
I do believe that it is foliar spray..but why do not the directions advise so on the little packets?
I think I may need to visit the site and read.

Randy ... don't bother, since Edenbio no longer sells MP, the info on their site is gone.

i hope thripmaster or any representative of Edenbio who is a member of DG will come up front to clarify this. if not mistaken, there are a few of them around.

u're welcome Kelly. now u can start using Messenger LOL. i had some Messenger i bought 2 yrs. ago. i didn't want it to go to waste, so out of curiousity, i sprayed irises i have. unfortunately i was unable to take photo prior to spraying Messenger. two weeks later, i noticed buds are popping everywhere. and now, all the irises are blooming like crazy.

here is Immortality Double Breasted Iris

ooh..okay...well -- I will do the foliar spray from now on just in case.

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

What a beauty. Now, if it will stop raining long enough and the wind lets up when I have time, I can get out there and spray. When I don't have time, it's beautiful out,,,LOL Was going to tonight, but it's a little to breezy,,,don't want that wind to catch my fine mist and carry it away.

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

How come they're not selling Mighty Plant any more?

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Randy, I never noticed that lack of directions there.
Mixing and Application Instructions.

Outdoor plants Mix one packet in one gallon of water. Apply to the foliage and thourghly soak root zone of outdoor plants every 7-21 days.

Indoor plants To feed with every watering Mix 1/4 teaspoon per gallon of water. To feed every 14-21 days mix 1/2 teaspoon per gallon of water

"Foliar Feeding Precaution. Only apply Mighty Plant to the leaves (foliage) of indoor plants that are not sensitive to liquid applications. When in doubt we strongly recommend root feeding only."

Here's one of those dwarf Gardenias a week after misting. It smells wonderful. 8 blooms open and 10 to open soon

that is for the experts to respond to... Hello thripmaster! we need ur expertise on the Mighty Plant fertilizer. unless, somebody else knew, pls. explain.

Central, WI(Zone 4a)

Sidney,

It looks lovely. I bet it smells lovely too.

Kelly

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Are you saying I'm not an expert Ma Vie? Is my info bad, or wrong? Is my Gardenia not popping enough for everyone to see?
Sidney

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

ah ha!!......exactly why I was root feeding. Messenger foliar, MP root...thats the way I understood it.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Sidney,
i do not know what ur problem is. if u read what i posted on 8:49 p.m. thread

only reason why i refered to experts is b/c they work for Edenbio, therefore they have the inside report on all components and procedure/s of how MP is compose of, or made. if u got all that info then pls explain. we need to know, besides we are also curious to find out why they stop making MP. i do not know anything about MP, i never had or bought any before, only Messenger.

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

You'll do fine either way. I just got all my info straight from a talk Robin gave at a round-up. I believe they are discontinuing the MP anyhow.
I will definately put it in some of my bottom feed plants now myself.
Robin said at the RU that drenching with the messenger was a waste and only helped sell more product.
She is of course much more knowledgeable than myself and I'm certain if I've misinformed she will straighten me out.
Sidney

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

as they say two heads are better than one, there are several Edenbio employee who are on board @ DG... which is why i want them to explain, so it will help us understand about MP.

i used to used MG when i did not know its composition. doing some research on DG forum, i come across this info on MG http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/441806/ it is sad to learn some of the facts about MG and what extent of damage it is doing to our environment. i wonder if the same thing applies to MP which is why they are discontinuing MP??? MG is not organic at all!!!

well, i am still keeping my fingers cross that they will come and explain.

Gardiner, ME(Zone 5a)

I also would be interested to find out why it is discontinued....hmmm ?

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

I do not think they have discontinued MightyPlant. It is my understanding that they have only removed it from their website because they ran out of it after our last co-op.

I also understood that they were going to offer it in different case increments after they sold out of the 400 pkt cases.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes, that is the way I understood it too- they ran out of product, but not discontinuing it's use or sales for the future. We basically depleted their entire inventory of MP.

Monroe, NC(Zone 7b)

Yep, DG completely ran us out of Mighty Plant. We will have it again in the future though. It is also sold in agricultural markets. mostly by UAP (United Agriproducts). Some people like to use a foliar fertilizer such as the one in MP because it is easy to use and effective. Others prefer to only use natural products. Sort of a "to each his own" type of thing. For those that want to only use natural products they should use Messenger with their fertilizer of choice. I like to use Messenger with compost or alfalfa tea along with a bunch of composted manure as a topdress.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Good to hear that...I made some and was about to scrap it. I made some with MP, and some with messenger.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

thank you tripmaster. do u know if MP is organic? TIA
