Texas Roundup TRADING LIST

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

you need to start hybridizing it and come up with a variety that doesn't make you itch. Then you'll be famous Mary.

Cross it with Virginia Creeper maybe? You could have everyone lost with leaves of four... (ok so far flung what can I do...)

This is a picture of my red zinger and Tx star hibiscus seedlings. I hope somebody wants some of these. They are really awsome. The october rose hibiscus seedlings are even taller.
I don't have the frostweed or gulf penstemon seedlings yet. They are still at Schumachers, but I hope to get them soon.
Mary, your Mdm. Alfred cutting has a bloom on it! I'll try to get a picture of it tomorrow.

Oh, my gosh, it worked! I'm still learning how to post pictures. Yippeeee!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Mary Lee, I will take 2 of each if you can spare them, and you don't mind.
Josephine.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

I have lots of Tx Star and Red zinger, due to your generosity! But there are only 4 October rose. Five really, but I'm keeping one. This is like giving away kittens! You are certainly welcome to 2 of each.:)

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Thank you Mary Lee, you are a sweetheart.
Josephine.

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Wow, Mary Lee, you were not kidding! Those seedlings are huge!

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

How well does frostweed transplant? I have tons of it growing wild.
Bob

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Mary Lee...I'd really like to try one of your TX star hibiscus seedlings...not sure what else I could offer you besides the gomphrena seedlings though. Let me think on it...

:) Kim

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Mary Lee,
I'd love to have one of each of your hibiscus if you have enough to spare. I'll bring you some more reblooming daylilies (no orange!)
Patricia

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Bob, Frostweed does transplant well, I normally take seedlings and put them in little pots or cups and keep them well watered and in the shade untill they recover, then I set them out wherever i need them
I have also transplanted 1 year old plants, which by that time have very large root systems, but you could pot them, or set them out where you want them.
If you set them out in the open, be sure to cut them back drastically and keep them moist untill they recover.
Good luck with your transplanting, I love this plant.
Josephine.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Mary, they are rather large, arent' they? I asked Chip if I could leave them in 4" pots and he said "yea but they're going to get really big". We have 2 weeks to go. He said they'd be find as long as you keep them watered. So I'm watering 3 times a day and keep them in the shade. If I put all these in bigger pots, I don't think I'd have room for everything in the van. So everybody that wants one better have a pot ready!LOL
Blue-eyes, you're absolutely welcome to some seedlings. No trade required, but some gomphrena seedlings would be nice to try. How tall do they get?
Patricia, I'll put you down for one of each hibiscus

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm glad I took pictures of the cuttings, because I'm thinking I need to trim them back. I was outside labeling them and noticed that some of the leaves fell off. I hate to do it, but I guess it would less stress for the roots if I trimmed them.

Mary, do you still want the Mdm Alfred rose? It's atleast 12" long and has a bud.!

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes, yes, to Mdm Alfred!! Thank you so much, and I now think that I might actually try to root cuttings of my roses in the future, to share.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Ok, Mary, it's on my list!

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks so much Mary Lee...I hate to ask for things without offering something in return, but it's hard when you're just starting out...lol! The gomphrena has pink flowers, I think its an annual but the seeds are easy to germinate. I got them at a TAMU gardening conference as part of a propogation workshop. Here is a link for those: http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/hort/consumer/factsheets/annuals/gomphrena_globosa.html .
I also have a cup of thunbergia alata, or I could take cuttings from any of the passiflora plants I just put into the ground yesterday. Some aren't hardy and some are supposed to be. The ones that aren't I'm going to dig up and put in the GH over winter. I thought they would look nice on the fence in the backyard. I want to eventually cover it in vines.

Also...I was wondering if anyone here has a recommendation for a low maintenance bush to put in front of my kitchen window. It would get a good bit of sun and should probably not need a lot of watering. We got the go ahead to yank out the ugly things that are there now so my neighbor and I need to replace them soon.

Thanks! Kim

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Kim, I think having a place to lay our heads is a pretty good return for a hibiscus seedling.:)
I think when we see your apartment we'll have a better idea of what to replace your dead shrubs with. In the meantime you might just get some really good compost and dig that in. Almost anything you plant will like compost. There's very good chance that nobody has done anything like that in a long time, if ever.

I still dont know what I have to share outside of Sedums. (all kinds of Sedums):( I can provide cutting of the Lady banks rosebush if any one is interested. Next year I will be prepared, I am saving all my black Hosta containers for rootings and propergations to share.

Sylvia

Dallas, TX

Oh I forgot, I have a variety of Mint and Monkey Grass.

Sylvia

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

City Sylvia, I have a friend who wants some sedum, especially if it blooms. I might use too. Do you know what kind it is? What does it look like?

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm working my way through the greenhouse and have added a few tomato and pepper plants to the top of my have list. Let me know if you can give them a home!

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Patricia, what kind of pepper plants do you have? I have a friend who wants one to put in a pot.
Mary Lee

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Sylvia....I don't have too much to offer but I would be very interested in some sedums. Is there anything you are looking for?

Mary Lee....Good suggestion about composting, I actually did that this weekend while putting in some new flower beds along the side of the house. What a job! We are still waiting to tear out the bushes, so we've got some time yet.

:) Kim

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Kim, you're right. It is a huge job, but when you start weeding, you'll be glad you added that compost. It helps so much to keep the dirt soft. Soft dirt is alot easier to dig in. It also helps to get it wet a day or two before you dig. Atleast that's the way it works here. There where you are if you have a lot of clay, you might need more compost than we do to make the dirt soft. I remember having clay soil in Houston where I grew up. My Dad used many colorful words that I was not allowed to say when he referred to the dirt in our yard.:)

Mary Lee,
There are four sweet banana and two TAM jalapeno peppers. The TAM is a very mild jalapeno with little heat compared to the original jalapeno. Our local nursery had them in six packs, but Robert only needed a few more to complete his pepper bed. They are nice and healthy and beginning to bloom.

Mitch, look what I found!

Patricia, I would like one of the jalepeno peppers please. Can they grow in pots? No thanks on the bananas though.:)
Sylvia, you really have a wide variety of sedum.

Marylee I dont have anything blue. hhmmm I wonder why? I got an Agapanthus, it ever come up.... If you want cutting of my Lady Banks you are welcome and I also have of Trumpet vines all over the place. :)

Sylvia

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Sylvia, but I have agapanthus (2 kinds). One bloomed last year and this year the other one has buds. So I guess they have arrangement between them to not bloom in the same year.:) No thanks on the Lady Banks rose also, because I simply have no room. I'm stuck with just admiring them in other people's yards.:( Mary Lee

Dallas, TX

LOL Marylee are you sure? ...think about the history behind this plant...lol When I got this Lady Banks, I purchased three, one died and the other I gave away. within five years ... it sayed about two feet tall and then all of a sudden it jumped up there, now its all over the place. Its in guys patio behind me, he loves i, i told him he could cut it ... he thanks for letting come over there. Just think of what I would have on my hands if all three live? I've got to hire some to cut this plant back ... actually I am scared of it ... its too throney for me to deal with. It taught me to read up on a plant before I put in the ground. :)
Sylvia
It is a beauty in bloom!

Sylvia, I'd love just a small bit of each of your sedums. They would be perfect for my front island xeriscape bed.

What kind of plants can you use? I have a list near the top of this thread, but if you are looking for something else, I just may have it.

Patricia

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Sylvia....very nice sedums you got there! I would also love to try a little bit of them. I am wanting to put some in my front bed. Could I interest you in some passi cuttings, or are there any other cacti or succulent items you are looking for?

Kim
