I love that saying! lol
A banning today - Breezymeadows
Pirl, given your experience, I'm sure you can empathize with those here who fear similar retaliation if they try to directly confront the person who has posted something offensive. The fear of being virtually "stalked" and ostracized make it understandable why some would choose to report their concerns to admin instead of speaking up and facing possible retaliation.
Wow, I can hardly get follow-up posts on my threads let alone barbs.
Terry - understood.
Indy - absolutely hysterical! Not that you'd want those arrows coming your way!
pgirl - a friend of mine once held that thought as his standard - "Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean someone isn't out to get you". It is a matter of asking yourself - Do I really care?
as someone who received a warning from dave today...because of what he feels are "filth"..and profanity......I thought i would chime in with my own thoughts...the words in common lingo would be "heck" and "dang" and acceptable from what i understand...while i shared with him my feelings that these are not profanity and filth to me..(i had quoted someone who's cat had ruined her african violets and she said she felt like using explitives etc.... she did use those two words throughout her quote.)...that i felt that since it was his website...if he didn't want those words being used..that was a different matter....I also shared with him that i thought this was an excellent site and i would certainly have no problem if he was uncomfortable with me here...It is just a disagreement...but being respectful to other members...i quite understand his feeling and others, although i disagree with it..
So, why do people get banned for what they say in private dmails? (heresay only on my part)
Man! I must just be PollyAnna. I don't see all these negative threads. I guess they don't happen in Daylilies. There are those who's ramblings I don't choose to read, so I just skip on to the next one. There are so many great folks here with whom to converse I concentrate on looking for their threads.
Pirl, you are the best! Hang in there. Dave, Terry and everyone else too.
Leslie
SO Leslie lesson is if people planted more Daylilies there would be less problems and we would live in a better world... the hem lovers dream we could say our hems were saving the planet......
I have only seen one thread where it got bad and I think that people get way over board when they want to talk about invasives... I have learned to stay far far far away from anyone who gets into those threads and I am much much happier here at Daves.
Edited to add - I have never been in trouble here but Dave does own the site and I can more then understand the stance he has for the site and I am thrilled that there is some standard here that we all know and can use to live up to.

Bob- I got in trouble for those two as well. It happened to be my first day on Dave's several months ago. I agree with you, although I don't consider that profane, this is not my site and I will gladly adhere to the rules so that I may continue to enjoy spending time with all my friends here.
dajrius..i had quoted the lady in the african violet forum and not in a dmail....
well anita as i told dave....if those are his rules...it is his site...i have no problem with that..but to tell me those words are profanity and filth are certainly incorrect...and to use the accepted slang...certainly raises questions in my mind......but as i say....If i don't like the rules..i can leave.....or dave can ask me to leave...it is not the end of the world...I
Dyson - I really do care.
Darius - certainly you must be teasing us! How could that be true?
LaLambChop - I think Breezy was more involved with Pets and wildlife than daylilies.
Mitch - great thinking re daylilies and right on as far as Invasives! Whew - too too hot regardless of the very well thought out sticky trying to keep the people in line. And Mitch, just because you haven't been in trouble here doesn't mean Mrs. Mitch was too thrilled when you sold the dishwasher for daylilies.
Anita - I got caught on one when I was a newbie, too. Dave explained and I never made that mistake again: just new mistakes.
Junglebob - given a choice I'll take the strict approach. We certainly wouldn't want to lower ourselves to the recent Oscar winning song whose words couldn't even be read by Imus on radio. So what was so wrong with "Moon River" or "Picnic" that the music industry has stooped so low?
well pirl i will respectfully decline to answer your question as that is political in nature..
I'm with Dave. I don't use any words that I wouldn't want a child to repeat. Also, I don't like sexual inuendo, double entendre. I know that some would consider me a prude, and that's okay with me.
I know Breezy's departure was not a result of profanity, but that seems to be where this topic has gone, so I'm adding my two cents.
Junglebob - if you consider it political, or Dave/Trish/Terry, I apologize. When we can't repeat words to an Oscar winner we've hit an all time low. Dave can tell me if I'm wrong. If I repeated the words (not that I know them) then he'd have the right to chop off my head with a dull axe.
Nap - stick to the courage of your convictions!
Thank you, Pirl.
pirl...well Imus is a very political person...so any comments would force me to make a political statement and as you know..that is against the rules.
Put me down for prude too as I would never be the life of many parties and that suits me very fine.
life is very short....live every moment and invest your goodwill in strangers unannounced.
Such a nice diversion!
Been watching this thread with interest. Been a subscriber for less than a year but spent the first week for so "lurking" and getting the feel and flow of the different threads. That's a pretty good clue of the atmosphere. If I hadn't liked it I would not have come back. Whether I agree, disagree, approve or disapprove is irrelevant... I liked what I saw and wanted to become a member of this community. If the shoe doesn't fit, don't try to force it!
If the shoe doesn't fit, don't try to force it!
I like that Katy!!
The tears are rolling down my face. I used to have 300 pair of heels, during my working years*, and now they're all upstairs and I know they won't fit. I really can't force them?
*I've tried "career", "working years" and still it doesn't look right: do not misinterpret! I was in mortgage banking. Somehow combining "heels" and a job it sounds unsavory! LOL :-)
pirl. Been there, done that! I took a major move for me to give up my precious pointy toed, spiked heel beauties. LOL
Pirl,
only if you want to turn into Cindarella's ugly step-sisters, and you, my Dear, are most certainly not!
It only took six pregnancies to keep me from MY shoes! LOL How about 1/2 size jump per kid?? Sigh...
I have to say, I most probably am inappropriate and taken badly more than some. I really can't help it. I get silly and wound up like a five year old and the fingers get going quicker than the brain. I am sure there are people that avoid my posts after reading some of the stuff above....
I'm happy to follow Dave's rules and I think some standard needs to be set.
But I find bad intentions far more offensive than bad words. Meanness is what gets me. Too bad we don't have a filter for that because then we could probably even discuss politics and religion.
Dave
Oh, please don't think that, Badseed. I've never avoided your posts and I've never found anything objectionable in them, but I like "silly and wound up," not to mention "inappropriate."
Dave47, I agree with you completely. Rudeness offends me much more than any words that might seem inappropriate to some.

Chele I live the life of a first grade teacher, your post dont look silly to me but rather very mature. I cannot fathom anyone thinking your post inappropriate!
Ok lillypon told me to come over here. So I talk too much and interrupt too many threads. I have also been bad and I am growing in my ability to stop expressing what I think. I think all communication is a learning process. I am learning to stay on thread. Thank you lord. Sorry for all of you that I have taken off course in threads.(it must be frustrating) Please forgive me. I enjoy you all Steve
What's all of this "mea culpa" stuff all of a sudden? People whose posts never bother anyone are suddenly apologizing. Steve, you need no one's forgiveness. You and Badseed are never objectionable in any way.
By the same token, the truly irritating people are never going to apologize.
But I find bad intentions far more offensive than bad words. Meanness is what gets me.
Beautifully put, Dave47, and I agree with you 100%. It is not language that bothers me; it is the mean spirit behind some posts. People can use all the 'good' words they want but it doesn't change malicious intent and that is what really does the damage.
NoH20..you have summed it up well...
ditto!
=) This is fun, I am tracking this to see if it gets as long as Mystic's post in General Discussion on "How Did You Pick Your Name," I think these 2 could tie for most posts! It's great when you have such an interesting subject that inspires talk but it is too bad this one had come about ya know.....If I ever offend anyone it's not on purpose, sometimes I just get so excited here on DG my fingers fly across the keyboard faster than my brain can keep up. =) Least we have the "edit" option!
Indy and nap: as a graduate of (specific religion) school I was taught to avoid dirty jokes, etc. so I'd say, when someone started to tell a joke, "If this is dirty I want to leave the room". Now that it's more than 40 years later I have just learned to avoid the people and then don't have the problem. A little humor is one thing but so many are so gross.
Dave47 - 100% right. We need a mean filter.
Zuzu - agreed. It's fun to watch "wound up" in action.
Steve - you've never qualified to be anything negative in any thread I've seen.
Zuzu - it does have that "confessional" feeling, doesn't it? I'm laughing as I'm thinking of those people who walk around with sandwich boards saying "Repent. The end is near". It's either that or a party with a lot of booze that makes people morose.
Alamoaimee - You are so funny! I don't think this thread is turning out to be about Breezy as much as general complaints. I agree this is fun. As you said, ". . .it's too bad this one had come about". .but it's here and we can all learn from it. I never thought that a thread that started out, as this one did, would ever be one I'd look forward to but it is. Actually it's only 115 posts in 18 days so I think it would have a long way to go to top "most posts".
Ditto to Dave47's comment. Meanness is what offends me most. If someone's intentions are good, it is well-worth the time to try and understand what they are saying, but if they are just trying to stir a bubbling pot, I will try one or two posts to diffuse things, and if that doesn't work, move on to another thread.
Right Weez.
Wuvie (Karen) - here's the link for "Pictures", yours specifically.

Pirl,
I was brought up with similar values in my large family/church. It is nice to use this forum just to remind people to be sensitive. =)
