Texas Roundup - 4/29/06 HEAD COUNT!
Hi folks,
which region on this map is closest to the College Station area? http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/
thanks :)
College Station is (barely) in Region 2. Washington-on-the-Brazos State Park is just a hop, skip, and a very-small-jump away. :-)
thank you Marylyn.
how close is Stephen F. Austin State Park? It seems that the Brazo's doesn't do campers.
Stephen F Austin State Park isn't anywhere close at all. Let me do some investigating for you. You are looking for a campsite? Are you talking about tents, or an RV, or what?
we have a travel trailer that can be self contained or use water/electric hook up.
we like the campgrounds that don't resemble parking lots :) lotsa open spaces.
thanks again.
Lisa,
Here is the closest state park I could find that has camping facilites, it is a little closer to College Station than I will be staying, about 24 miles: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/parkguide/rgn_pl_010.phtml .
For something much closer, here is a link to campsites and RV parks in Bryan/College Station, down the list is one that sounds like it might work (TAMU Elsie Duncan Olsen Grove Park). Maybe one of the College Station members could check it out for you.

Hope this helps!
Boy I would love to go to this RU so I can meet everyone. But unfortunately the only day opened to reserve the pavilion for our Galveston Co Plant Swap was on April 29. I hope everyone has a great time and maybe I can make it to the next one.
We are having a Master Gardeners convention that following weekend at College Station and here is a list of motels that I thought might help some of you out. HAVE FUN.

TED, Sorry I have been MIA on here a bit this week. I did go to CS this last weekend and have cancelled my reservations at the Fairfield Marriot on TX ST. I stopped by there and went in to get some local information. While I was there I looked in the restroom by the desk, and found no paper towels and no tissue! The hallways were narrow and it was a very small hotel from the looks of it, but it had an indoor pool but was loaded with college kids. I wasn't impressed. I changed to the Comfort Suites near SW Parkway and TX St. It is "G" on the 2nd pg of this link Dave had given us. It is only a year old and you can see the room pictures on their internet site. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sll=30.632484,-96.329198&sspn=0.024187,0.034075&hl=en&q=hotel&ll=30.635438,-96.322718&spn=0.024186,0.034075
The park we have reserved is just a bit further south of there, maybe 3/4 mile.
I also decided to drive down to the park early Sat the 29th then spending the night and drive back Sunday morning.
Oh, about the park, it is really nice. There are slides etc. like at a fast food place for the kids and volleyball net for those who have more energy than me. LOL! The parking lot is maybe 50 foot from the pavillion, and it is on a flat surface!!
Changed the hotel name!!!! I booked the Comfort Suites not Quality!

A second here on that - you are royalty to us Mary, and dont you forget it.
For those in College Station this weekend, TAMU is having their plant fair March 25th at 8 till 3. It is a great chance to get some of the best bred, adapted and selected plants for the area.

Aw, Kip & Mitch! (blush) Thanks!

I think I am going to have to back out. :-( Mine and my husband's closest friends are probably moving that weekend and we really need to help them. We moved into a new house almost 4 weeks ago and they spent the whole weekend, Friday through Sunday, helping us move so we owe them the same. They close on the 28th, so depending on when they actually get possession, we might be able to make it for Saturday, but it's not likely.
I am so dissappointed!
.. sweez ..
That will be disappointing, for sure ..
Understand about you guys' friends and returning the (most admirable) favor; but sure hopin' there's a wee bit of a delay after the closing! (hee)
- Magpye
Oh Stacey, I hope you will be able to make it, it would be a shame for you to miss it.
I do understand your dilemma, it is best to do the right thing.
How did your creek behave during the heavy rains? No flooding I hope.
Josephine.
Nope, no flooding. We got just over 4 inches (not nearly as much as others in the area), and it never got more than 2 feet wide. And that's still 150 feet from the house, so we are safe. It's more of a stream than creek, I guess. The crawdads and frogs were out on Monday though. I knew there had to be crawdads down there because I had seen holes, but it was neat when one of the neighbor kids found one floating along in the stream. I was in the yard with gloves on so I went and picked him up for them. Soon after they found a couple of frogs down too.
I have pics on my camera to show off the new place, but just have not had a chance to load them to the computer. Hopefully soon. :-)
Oh, I'm with everyone else - you have to do what's right, but I sure do hope it will work out for you to come!
When you get time, be sure to start a thread with pics of your new home, we'd all love to see it.
(((Magpye)))
Come on, April 29th!!
OK--been trying to read back thru this thread but ya'll know I'm ADHD...well sorta...LOL....so its at Southwood Park, right? What time?
Debbie
Dave had said about 10 o'clock as a time for the swap, but then he wrote this after booking the park. See you there!
I reserved and paid for the park yesterday! It's officially our's for April 29th. I need to be there at 8:00am to check in and the roundup can begin directly after that. We have the park until closing time at 1:00am.
I guess 17 hrs should be enough time to visit a little, lol.
Well, Dave needs to be there at 8, but a later starting time would be best, we think :) 10:00am sounds wonderful!
We still need A LOT more volunteers to be bringing snacks, and please don't forget that everyone needs to bring drinks!!
Sign up for the food here:
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/581207/
Also, has anyone started a trading list yet?
Would someone like to volunteer to be the "welcome committee"- making and handing out name badges? I hate to pin someone to a desk for the first hour or so, but it would be nice to have tags made up, and someone in charge of making sure everyone gets one! (pretty please :))
Trish
I would LOVE to man a welcome desk!! Shall I make up nametags ahead of time or just bring sticky ones and colored markers?
~ Marylyn
I would love to help you out on the Welcome desk Marilyn ...if needed, I am sorta friendly and personable. LOL So the RU is just one day now? So Shelia what time will we be meeting for breakfast or do we have time now? Anyway I am signing up for snack thingey ...hmmm.... what can I make thats exciting and will travel for four hours in a car?
SylviaNDcity
Alright Sylvia, don't go trying to change your name again! LOL!
I think we better meet at the park and then leave to get breakfast, or maybe bring it back. I plan on leaving the house about 5am, but will go pick up Adeline in Masfield on the way. I will D-Mail you my cell number so you can contact me that morning when you get there. Maybe one of us can stop on the way and get some breakfast.
