Texas Roundup - 4/29/06 HEAD COUNT!

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

Alright! And hopefully it's just a start!

(Nadine) Devers, TX(Zone 9b)

I and Daisy-flowerjunkie are suppose to come on Saturday....Yea!!!

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

What time are we starting on Saturday? I will be driving up that day so need to know what time I am going to be getting up... 2ish hours right right down I45?

I thought we might start up around 10am.

From I-45 it would be around an hour.

It's 1 and a half hours from Waco on Highway 6.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

DH and I are planning one being there. Whether we'll need a room or not kind of depends on which park we wind up at and how much the hotel rooms are. We can sleep in the van, but it would be really nice to be able to take a shower. So if the rooms are reasonable I'm thinking we'll spend atleast Sat night in a hotel. If we are on schedule at work, we should be able to leave here Fri afternoon and stay til Sun.

Where do we post plants we need or have to trade?

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

I just wanted to add again that if someone needs a place to stay while at the swap, I would be happy to play host. Of course I would check with people here to make sure the person is a good reliable DG member, for my own safety and such. I have a spare bedroom and a queen size air mattress. I live in Bryan so it would be a short drive. I also have a potbellied pig...need to let people know so there are no surprises...lol. I'm a graduate student at A&M and live in a little duplex neighborhood off of Hwy 6. Nice neighborhood, kids and pets, not noisy. Just let me know! Also, if there is anything that people need help with (ie. setup, etc) I would be more than happy to help out.

Thanks, Kim

Also wanted to add that although I am a relatively new DG member, I have been on GW for years and there are many people over in the hoya forum here who know who I am...in case someone wants to check on me...

FYI, re travel time. It takes an hour from FM 1488 & FM 2978. It's a very scenic route. If anyone's interested, email me for a map.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

BUMP!!

Mansfield, TX(Zone 8a)

Any confirmation of the site we are going to meet at or whether a block of rooms has been reserved?

If we think the head count is finished, then we could certainly proceed with finalizing the decision on the park and the hotel.

Could someone give a final tally of the head count here?

dave

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

I counted 55 without Dave's family. That's including a few maybe's.

Seven couples or family/friend groups indicated they would stay Friday night, and two said Saturday night. Some said one night, but not which one, and some did not say whether or not they were spending the night. The tally of the number attending was easy, but the hotel tally is a little fuzzy!

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

no hotel here - me and Chi will be there Sat only... I think mine was easy but wanted to be sure :-)

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

I may be there, but I'm always in an "iffy" situation....due to the nature of my work.
Sidney

Okay, so around 55 to 60 fairly committed. The number might grow a bit in the coming 2 months.

Any ideas on how many hotel rooms will be needed?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Would it help to ask those who signed up to EDIT the original post where they gave the head count to give you a room count (i.e. 2 beds Fri only) or (i.e. motor home)? I know some of us may be sharing a room also.

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

It really doesn't sound like enough rooms to ask a hotel/motel for a special rate. We might just want to make our own arrangements and go from there. Just a thought.

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

Since we have some business to attend in the area during the first of May - pencil the two of us in .. for a good bit of visiting on Saturday.

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh, how cool! It will be so fun to meet you, Magpye! Yippee!!

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

Add 2 more to your list. I just talked my DH into going and will need a room. This will be my first round up. I can't wait!!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Wow! Veronica, I am so glad to hear you are coming, this is going to be great, now all we need to do is kidnap Hazel, and we will be all set.
Unfortunately she said she can't make it, but maybe things will change by then, you never know, right?
Josephine.

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Hooray!! It's been ages since I saw you, Veronica. It will be great to see you again. This is beginning to sound like heaven!

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

bump.

(Zone 8b)

Richard and I are hoping to make it - but its difficult to commit right now as we have consruction issues with our home.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Do we know exactly what park area we will be at yet??

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

put 3 down for a maybe, we are considering the trip.

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh, Lisa, that would be so neat if you guys could come before you move!

Okus, hope everything works out for you guys to be there!

Lisa, that would be great!!!

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

yes, it would be great dave and yep maggiemoo...it would likely be our only chance to meet most of our TX DG neighbors before we leave LA.

I called DH a moment ago and asked him if it would be possible---when I told him dave was putting it together--- he said it would be highly possible :)

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

Please put me down tentatively....for 2

I have not found just where it was decided to hold this RU..

Yes, let's make a final decision on the park.

As for the hotel(s), I agree that we don't have enough for a group rate, so let's say that everyone is free to choose any one they wish.

dave

Corpus Christi, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh, I hope it's not too late to chime in for the head count. There are six of us. Me and my dh and 4 children. Is that ok? Can kiddies come?

Laura

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Not too late, Laura, we're all looking forward to meeting your family! Kiddies with a "d" are just fine. (Kitties would be another matter altogether.) :-)

Corpus Christi, TX(Zone 9a)

No kitties, just kiddos :) Can't wait to meet everyone!

Laura

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

On the first thread, I remember someone offering their teenage girls to help entertain the youngsters that came too.

Meadows Place, TX(Zone 9a)

Sheila_FW, wouldn't that be like offering the sheep to the lions ????

PS:I can say this having one myself. ;o)

McKinney, TX(Zone 7b)

Yep, it was me. I volunteered my girls (Mara, 15, & Kayle, 12) to watch over youngsters. I promise, neither one of them will eat the sheep, hmmm, I mean kiddies. :)

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

LOL!

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Lol, Sandi!! That's good to know!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

You won't see me volunteering for that service. LOL!! Those are brave young ladies to offer to do that. But if I remember correctly they work with children now....??

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

So now we are pushing 70 people. (yayyy!) I invited a bunch of friends from church and about 6 are interested in hearing more details, but haven't committed to anything yet. I would like some more details to give them soonish, if possible. :-) I made reservations at the Quality Suites today and I'm getting excited!!
