Announcing a rework of the forums, and Home Talk!

I like graphics that are easily tagged rather than colors, please. More user friendly when calling attention to different things. :)

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

OK, I'm a few hours behind most of you, so I may seem late in offering my compliments, Dave. Good job! I have already added some of the Home forums to preference list, and have begun posting there. I figure we need to prime the pump a bit... right? Some of the other subscribers better get over there and start some new threads, or new folks will think the new threads are inhabited by ol' Ma Kettles like me!

Harford County, MD(Zone 6b)

Dave, I'm very happy with the additional forums.

While I do enjoy gardening, I think most of us will benefit greatly from the opportunity to discuss things in and around our home.

Thanks, Dave! It looks great. :-)

I'm wondering if you might want to do a 'home' watchdog. There alot of home/decorating mail order places out there...

Mableton, GA(Zone 7b)

ooooooooooooooooooo...

Weezin: you're exactly right. You'll find me trying to participate over there as much as I can, in order to prime that pump. It's almost like starting a brand new site again. I am seeing several forums becoming active already and I love it.

Home Watchdog - yes. The idea is that if the Home Talk area really takes off and if people start coming in and the demand is there, we will certainly add additional features to cater to this area. A Home Watchdog and a HomeFiles (like PlantFiles) are both reasonable ideas that we WILL do if there is demand in the forums.

Now that I've spent some time poking around and wandering about. I've decided that I love it!

I said earlier that I usually use the home tab to get around, but I can see myself starting to use the garden talk and home talk tabs more than the home tab.

I like mystic's idea of flagging them if there's been a new post. That would be helpful to find new things if you only have a few minutes at a time to catch up on some forums.

I also did a little housecleaning in my watched forums department so I could add some of the new ones. :)

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

hi dave, no double clicks here...

Hmmm...Well, it's about 9 hours past first daylight...Sheesh, I can't believe I didn't check out all the new cool stuff hours ago.

I love, love, LOVE all the new forums.

Now I just need to investigate each one.

Dave, with all the info you're offering now, why would anyone go to any other website. *grin*

TamaraFaye, if it persists through tomorrow, please let me know again in a new thread.

I tried to make a little button to indicate new posts, but I failed miserably. I'm no artist. Can anyone make me a button that would indicate posts are new? The image needs to be 20 pixels tall max.

dave

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

will do Dave. currently there aren't many n ew posts in old threads, folks are too busy making new threads LOL

what about a star instead of a button? or a flower? surely someone has a .gif for that.

doh, lol

Well, we want something that will be obvious that it indicates that there are new posts.

Mableton, GA(Zone 7b)

hmm...

ok, see you could have said that before I just posted so I wouldn't look so embarrased. LOL

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

What about just a green "N" for new? Or your handy-dandy green check mark?

The checkmark sounds nice (I always look for places to use my pretty green checkmarks!!)

I'll toy around with it.

dave

Mableton, GA(Zone 7b)

sounds good to me. You could do a mail flag, but that indicates mail really...hmm...light bulb? Fireworks? What says 'new'?...

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

here is a quick button Dave

Mableton, GA(Zone 7b)

wow. Radioactive NEW. :)

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

it is actually 20 by 20 pixels. Have it as a gif or a jpg if you want it, i'll probably have to email it to you

Terry, great idea. A green check mark. Colors and graphics all in one... plus my *favorite* color. LOL

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

if you click to view it full size it looks much better LOL

Anyway, Dave WOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOO love the changes

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Color me confused as usual, why is the full sized image smaller than the thumbnail?

*shaking head*

Woofens,
neat trick there. LOL

A picture in a post is always the same size, somehow Dave has it set up so that it is thumbnail sized. When you click on the pic to view it it returns to its normal size (within limits I believe) LOL

I liked it better when it was magic.

Dave, if you are trying to entice over the That Home Site folks.... I'd suggest a forum just titled "Cooking" because that is one that really has a lot of posts. I noticed you have one for "recipes" and some other cooking ones, but not just a general one "cooking".... I'm a That Home Site person from 8 or more years ago.. and I don't like what they have done. I am thrilled you have added things here.... and I am hoping many of the members will come here once they know about it. I just love the "cooking" forum there and hope you will add one here.

Thanks!
Jules

Jules - it's done! I created the forum, per your wish.

Make sure you tell your friends from THS that we're here!

Dave

Culpeper, VA(Zone 7a)

I hope this doesn't mean we're going to lose our "Recipes" forum. When I belonged to GW I definitely was NOT a fan of the Cooking forum over there or the personalities that ruled (or should I say overruled) it. It was - & still is - a big time "clique" forum.

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Wow I sure stirred up things didn't I ? lol Dave the check mark would be just fine. I know how much you love those and green. I like Woofens button too and it's green. :)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

Feel like a kid in a candy store - this is all just fabulous. Finally getting the hang of it and really, really like it!

Thanks again dave and crew :)

Dave, thanks SO much! I'm one from "the other place" What a disaster! LOVE it here! The new look is great, I was a little confused before ;)

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

Thank you for reviving the old "media" forum... it all looks nice Dave. Thanks.

Mesilla Park, NM

Just want to say "I like it alot"... its very user friendly.

Way to go Dave...

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

those flowers are REALLY cute echobioangie.

a checkmark sounds dull compared to woofens "N".

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

I reeeally like it alot!

I've had the same problem as Tamera Faye with the 'skip to new' button going all the way to the end of a thread though. If it happens again, I'll start a thread just for that.

I would be agreeable to having a couple of my threads moved over to some of the new forums...there's a few that would be of interest to folks over there and there's nothing in them that would divulge personal info....I'm thinking of the Quilt Show tours that I do each year specifically. Nothing else comes to mind except these, but it might help prime the pump. It's fine with me either way...just offering a suggestion...

This is like getting ready for a big party and everything is done....housecleaning, decorating, food all prepared and waiting...now we're looking out the windows with our noses pressed up against the glass waiting for guests to arrive!!

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Great way to express it, melody! Yes, I feel the same. I don't want to sit down and wrinkle my party dress, so I stand at the window and wait hopefully for guests!
