2nd Annual Southern Cal RU, July 8th 2006

Crossville, TN

AHH....wonderful memories.

Speaking of memories...if memory serves me correctly, those of us who have been involved in Don's Yard ARt Project are supposed to bring something to add to his "whirlwind".

Maggiemoo...I know you would have been devistated had you not remembered!! I can't wait to get you and SoCal together...good times will roll. LOL Jo

Columbus, OH(Zone 5b)

Of course I always wear stilettos when I go boating.
Although when it's a little row boat, like Ginger and Mary Ann I wear a more sensible pump.

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Okay, that's just a little creepy. I had a dream about that crew last night... it was NOT pretty, lol!!

Jo, yeah, I'm curious about metting SoCal, wondering if there will be spontaneous combustion, or the formation of a black hole or something, for getting two like elements too close together or something. :-)

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Oh don't you worry Mary, I am a very out going and likeable person. If you and I both like Don and Pam and the infamous 'Jo'...that's something we have in common already. lol

Don't forget that I flew all the way to the Kentucky RU 3 yrs. ago, and had the time of my life!!! I also tried to go to your last TX RU, but couldn't swing it afterall.

I just love people, especially gardeners. haha

Only 2 days and a wake up until you leave...you must be so excited. :-)))

Donna

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Excited isn't the word, but then, I haven't been able to come up with a better one, lol. Sleeping is definitely a challenge!!

Orange, CA(Zone 10b)

I would like to come this Saturday, if it's not too late to sign-up. Don't know if I have anything worth trading but I will definitely bring food.

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Hi Quyen,

Oh, it will be so nice to see you again. We met at the small RU in Orange last year.

It is never too late to come to a RU! Don has plenty of room for all of us. You also don't need to do any trading of plants, many of the people don't have any, but I'm sure they will go home with some. lol

Please check into the:

1. Head count thread to let us know you are coming, and how many in your party.
2. Food thread to let us know what you'll be bringing and to see what is being brought already.
3. Plant trade thread to see if there are any plants that would interest you and let the person know to bring it.
4. The RU directions thread to know how to get there.

See ya on Sat.
If you have any other questions, just ask...someone will come along and help you.

Donna

Santa Ana, CA(Zone 9b)

Yay Quyen!

We also met at Arlene's (I'm the big sister of cute visiting little sister! who is not here now).

See you Saturday! Heh, that's like 36 hours now!

Don & Pam Fiona is still asleep so tell Elliot to sleep in Lol!!

Well, I for one consider myself very lucky to be part of such a nice group of people. My two English roses (DH and son) were wilting by the time we left, but they enjoyed themselves too, and they don't garden! Great food, and thanks to everyone for the great plants.

Don and Pam, Janice, Donna - you are an awesome bunch and thanks once again for organizing such a great day.

Did I say thanks for the great plants? :-) I'll try to do them proud.

Cheers,
Kathleen

Los Angeles, CA(Zone 10a)

The round was the best time I have had in a long while. Everyone was so warm and welcoming. Thanks to Don and Pam for having us. Donna, Jo, Janice Quyen, Jeff, Dovey, Sherry, Barb, Crystalspin, Blooms, Gail, and Don for sharing with me all of their knowledge as well as plants and seeds. And thanks to absolutely everyone for being so nice and wonderful. I was smiling all the way to my garden. I went straigt there after I left to find homes for all of the new plants I got.

Barb, I stopped at Walmart on the way home for peat pellets so I can start all of the wonder seeds you gave.

Again, thank you to everyone!

Sherry, we'll have to share results with the cerinthe from SoCal. Sorry we didn't get to talk more, neighbor!

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

kaperc, yes, I've been wanting the cerinthe since I saw it a couple of years ago. How lucky I am! I wanted to talk to everyone, but when it's over 75 degrees I start turning scary shades of red and melting....I think in another life I died in the desert or something. I hardly got to talk to you at all! I think we all had a pretty good day...
Sherry

Orange, CA(Zone 10b)

This was my first time at a full-fledged round up and I had a wonderful time. My daughter had fun spending time with Ozzie.

Thank you, Don and Pam, for being such gracious and thoughtful hosts. Thank you, Donna and Janice, for coordinating and organizing the event.

It was good to see a few familiar faces and meeting new ones. I didn't get to talk to everyone who was there. I was too busy stuffing my face with all the great food :-) But, since the next round up is already in the works, I hope to get to know more people next year. And I will definitely have more plants to share.

See you online, everyone.

San Diego, CA

Wow! What a great day!
Don and Pam, sorry I didn't find you to say goodbye. Your boys had the cart all loaded up and ready to go, and I couldn't hold them up to long. Thank you both for being such good people.

The Food was awesome! The company was Awesome! And....I came home with a DG Shirt! and loads of plants.....

To ALL! I truly enjoyed spending the day with everyone. I hope I did not offend anyone if I didn't spend time with you, I don't think I stopped talking all day long! Thanks everyone for the plants, the seeds, and the company......

Jeff

Corona, CA

It was great meeting all of you at the RU. Don and Pam, thank you for being such great hosts. I didn't get a chance to say good-bye either, as once I started moving the plants towards the stairs, those wonderful helpers took over. :-)

Eunice was delicious, and there was so much good food to eat! Thank you to everyone who brought extra plants. As soon as I make a list of what I have, I'm sure I'll have lots of questions. And Kanita, thanks for the seeds!

Don, I didn't get to sit with you and go over the tomato seeds I brought. I'm going to try to put together a description of the ones I gave to Lisa and Kanita. If you see something that looks interesting, maybe I could mail them to you...a host gift. ;-)

Oooh, what a great time! Just got back to TX today, Don & Pam still don't have internet yet, hopefully (keep your fingers crossed) they will be back online tomorrow evening. It was such a great time meeting everyone, and I have to echo everyone's thanks to Don & Pam for hosting this, and to Donna and Janice for organizing everything. I'm pretty bushed today - had to catch up with the kitties and visit with my garden - but I'll find the photo thread tomorrow and add my pics. Here are Don and Pam when they took me to the airport this morning. It's good to be back home, but I'm going to miss them!!

Hi Maggiemoo...glad you're ready to garden again....LOL Jo

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Good morning Mary,

I thought about you returning home yesterday and was hoping you would check in. I'm so glad you enjoyed yourself at the RU and I know you had a nice visit with Don and Pam.

Rest today and we'll chat more later. It was so wonderful to finally meet you. :-))

Hugs,
Donna

Temecula, CA(Zone 8b)

hiya guys!!!

woohoo.......internet!

All of you are so generous with kindness. Pam and I were both grateful for such a wonderful group this year. Donna and Janice did it again and made it a wonderful time. Jo, thanks for the tinman....he'll hold a place of honor in my bad garden art tornado...lol, you're the best! To so many of you, thanks for the great trades! It was like my birthday planting all of the goodies I could use and mulching those I couldn't.

maggiemoo........we love you!

Having so many old and new friends attend really is a lot of fun for us and all of us who had a good time owe a huge debt of gratitude to Dave for bringing us together. I'm grateful for all of you making this one a great one.

thanks from both of us

Crossville, TN

Hey back atcha, Don!

Did you get the Tin Man put back together? I made his head pop off making him fit in the box!

I had a G-R-E-A-T time...thanks so much for the DG mugs and chocolates. Jo

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

Glad you made it back safely Mary. It was wonderful to get to meet you.

Hey Don & Pam! glad to see you back in cyberspace FINALLY!! I am still chanting my mantra " I will not peek at the Prince. I will not peek at the Prince." I told my perfectly ugly garden frog ornament that it had stiff competition coming. He just sat there looking grey and ugly as ever. He is the gardian of my potting bench. Someone has to be responsible for all of that clutter.
Janice

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Phew!!! Thought we lost you forever. lol Glad to see ya back with us crazy gardeners.

I hope we didn't leave your beautiful ranch in a huge mess and that you all have recouped from our intrusion for the day.

Hugs to all,
Donna

ps, I heard you had a new addition to the family this week? :-)

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

drdon,
want to let you know that my salvia are jumping right up and I'm starting to think about placement. I've let geranium incanum have the run as a cover in my beds for far too long and they've built up a lot of thatch; time to pull it all out and think about what new things I would like as filler/cover. Betsy Clebsch suggests sinaloensis under Souvenir de la Malmaison, and as luck would have it, I have 2 Souvenirs waiting for underplanting, so we know where that one's going! A couple of them have shot up so that I may soon take cuttings of my cuttings. I've seen the future; I think it's salvia.
Sherry

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Another Salvia fiend is born. LOL

Columbus, OH(Zone 5b)

Maggiemoo,
It was such a pleasure to get to know you... it was fun watching Matt and Don work on getting Eunice into the ground wasn't it? And how about them Firemen (I'm a sucker for a big truck)

Glad you got home safe and sound
Hugs

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Whew, it's going to be 108 tomorrow and 109 on Saturday...A/C don't fail me now. Hope everyone's staying cool and drinking lots of H2O.
Thinking of you all and wish we were having another RU soon...hint, hint, hint.
(((((((((Dovey))))))))))

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Blooms, I'm afraid so, my DH and I are negotiating my new shade/propagating structure and the conversation went something like this, He, "what does salvia look like?" Me, "well, there are different ones." He, "how many varieties do you have?" Me, "oh, about 26 or so" He, "how many varieties ARE there?" Me, "welllll,I think about 250 and new hybrids constantly......." He, "HOW LARGE A STRUCTURE DO YOU NEED??! Me, "I''ll take whatever I can get.....that's a good sized workshop you built for yourself......." I'm not in a real hurry, but did point out to him that where my current propagating area is would be a good place to build the new storage he wants and he said, "but we'd have to move all of your plants out of there first, well, sure, I guess if we built your shade structure first........"
Sherry

Columbus, OH(Zone 5b)

Sherry,
Well done lass!
Do you give lessons?

Columbus, OH(Zone 5b)

Louise,
Does that indicate a change of opinion... and you don't think I'm mean anymore? ;-p
