2nd Annual Southern Cal RU, July 8th 2006

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

durn it!!!

Why is this always scheduled during eBay live? http://pages.ebay.com/ebaylive/

I will not be able to attend again......work calls ( and gosh, if your job is as hard as eBay, should I really complain??)

Dr D, honestly, weighing you vs Vegas and your venue is much more fun sounding if I had a choice but unfortunately, work bekons.

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Oh Michele, sorry you can't make it again. Is there any weekend that you DON'T have an Ebay meeting? lol

Glad to see you back with us again. I noticed that your subscription had run out and just figured your job had taken a priority in your life.
Welcome back.

Donna

Temecula, CA(Zone 8b)

hiya guys,

Back from the tombs of tax preparation, foaling, and about a bazillion family matters......I think I would have preferred the Mexican prison I was rumoured to be in over in the Dahlia forum....lol. I feel like I've given birth to a CPA....

To all who are considering coming........COME ALL, you are very welcome here. We have more time to prepare this year so we'll have more tables for displaying plants and more chairs.

Both Pam and I are really looking forward to a super time with old and new friends alike. I think frogsrus and others will be doing some of the management of food, keeping trades posted, and other things soon. As the garden grows, July is just around the corner......it can't come quickly enough...........woohooo!

By the time for the roundup several more projects currently under construction should be completed and I can't wait for summer and all of the blooms in the cactus garden.

best to all, and we'll see you soon,
don

Atascadero, CA(Zone 8a)

hiya don. . .believe I know the feeling. Been up my neck in seems like a bazillion projects and looked this AM and had a stinking whole page of threads in my threadwatcher to catch up on. So, who gets clicked first but SO CAL RU, hoping you resurfaced. VOILA!

I think we all concur. . .summer can't come soon enough, well, maybe minus a little of the heat LOL. Anyway, WELCOME BACK!! It was nice to hear from Pam while you were doing the disappearing act, so we all could quit worrying. Take care and try not to work so hard. Here's to Summer and RU's, Janet

Temecula, CA(Zone 8b)

hiya Janet,

great to see everyone, and I promise to be better prepared for the tax man in the future....whew!

We are planting heavily, and the gardens are starting to spring into spring and we are certainly looking forward to also being better prepared for the RU color-wise.

The rest of the preparations are increasing shade, more ice buckets for bottled water, and more table space....lol. Didn't exactly expect 60+ last year, but we'll be prepared for 100 this year. And we'll be doing a kind of 'cyber cafe' table where folks can log into DG and download pics in semi realtime.

All in all, both Pam and I are really excited about this year's version and hope all who are considering attending do so.

best,
don

Los Angeles, CA(Zone 10a)

I hope to see you all this year.

I know I'm looking very forward to the day!

Perris, CA(Zone 9a)

Why did this thread stop all of a sudden? Were the new messages transferred to a new forum? The RU in Temecula is still happening in July, right?

Any info would be appreciated...

Thanks,

Chuck

Temecula, CA(Zone 8b)

hiya Chuck,

Still happening, go to the food and trade threads to find out more. Hope to see you here.

best,

Thanks Donna!

San Diego, CA

Froggy, do you have any frogs yet?
Mark

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

Hey Mark! I have no frog babies yet but I have buckets of brug cuttings out for their swimming and egg-laying pleasure. I am keeping watch. Any offspring have your name on them. Lol! I now have a pair of western toads in the garden too. They had been handraised by someone who could not stand the sound of them in an apartment any longer. Out they went to Brug city in the back and are very happy. One got stalled on a cool evening when trying to cross the cold cement patio and had to be carried back to the corner of the yard. They sound kind of like baby chicks. I figured that they would head for the creek but they have settled in nicely.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

okay, ya'll.....don't laugh at me but I did get my J months confuzzled......

Michelle

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Yea Michele, it will be so nice to see you again. You will have a great time at this RU....and there is so much more room than at my home. lol

Donna

Crossville, TN

OK..I've been lurking...but the "lumpy chocolate pie" brought me right to attentions...Can't wait to see everyone. Amy said her Sailor Boy is to come with us...he just doesn't know it yet!! His name is Russell....so we will have 2 of our service people there this year..."Anchors aweigh"....Jo

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

As long as the lurkers are coming out into the open, lol, I'm lurking too. I am so looking forward to meeting everyone (jumping up and down, waving my hands wildly, doing the happy dance)!!

Temecula, CA(Zone 8b)

hiya Jo,

Let Amy know that we're looking forward to seeing her again and meeting her friend.

maggiemoo!!

Now that we know you're coming...woohoo, we've got confirmed DGers from four states so far. This is going to be a bunch of fun see old pals and meeting new ones. Last year we had something in the neighborhood of 60, and I think it has grown. We'll know when everyone who knows they're coming RSVPs.

It's great to see both of you,
hugs,
don

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Good Morning all, I hope you're thinking about making it to the RU...so far the head count looks to be about 10! Do more people wait til later to see if they'll be able to make it? Are the gas prices making it difficult? If you see anything on my "has list" (SoCal has a link to the trades list, I would do that for you if I'd gotten as far as figuring that out. What can I say? I'm a slow learner), please speak up, I'll only be bringing those items that are spoken for. I'm beginning to think everyone prefers brugs!

Good morning Sherry,

I think everyone is outside enjoying this sunshine that we are finally having, and also the busy holiday weekend was near.

I am going to start contacting many of the people that said they are coming to remind them to RSVP on the headcount thread, which is here http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/605875/ Don and Pam would like to have an estimate by June 10th or within that next week.

I have been working on my plants for trade and will be posting them soon also. I don't have as many as I normally do, because my Garden Club had a plant sale 2 months ago and I donated many plants to that this year.

I'm looking forward to meeting you and I know you will enjoy meeting several of the others also.

Donna

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Donna, I went to the Huntington Beach garden tour several years ago that had some in Huntington Harbor and Seal Beach, maybe I saw you there! I was quite taken with the small property in Seal Beach that was very charming and done really well for a tiny lot...sometimes city small is a lot more fun. Looking forward to seeing you.
Sherry

Corona, CA

I just got a message about this event and figured I'd better jump in and introduce myself, as I'm thinking this might just be a very fun thing to do.

I'm Barbara (CoronaBarb on forums at *other* places) and I live in Corona. (duh) I am a tomatophile. I used to frequent the forums at ****** *** until about February, when I decided to join DG. About the same time, an acquaintance started *********** where most of the people I talk to hang out. I've spent what time I have online over there, so I never got the chance to come here and meet all of you. (did any of that make sense, LOL?)

I grow lots of different varieties of heirloom tomatoes, with a few hybrids mixed. I also grow some peppers, lettuce, and herbs, along with melons when I can. On my acre, I have two Valencia orange trees, two grapefruit, one lemon, one lime, and one walnut tree. I hope to add more citrus, like blood and mandarin oranges.

I will have to go to the links and check out more info on this RU. I don't know if I have anything I can bring to trade but I love to bake great desserts. I also am not familiar with the setup at DG so I need to take time (it will have to be next week) to find my way around. (I don't know where this thread is located...I'm responding to the email I recvd...thanks whoever sent it)

Glad to meet all of you gardeners. (picture is Mocha Brownie Cheesecake)

Oh Barb....when you've been with us for a while you will know that I am a chocloholic...you are now my new Best Friend! Don's wife, Pam, will love you also!! I look forward to meeting you at the RU....Jo

P. S. You'll see lots of people here from "the other place"...I presume you're from Garden Web...and you're allowed to say it here! LOL

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Jo is not the only chocoholic here or there as the case may be. LOL
just now i'm blatently hooked on these miniature cram puffs that come in the grocery store freezer... one can see i'm easy to please... they make great 'grab me' snacks.

I dropped in on the midAtlantic RU in Maryland last year and met some great folks. Am tempted to do like Jo and go to lots of them.... but a garden is a hard thing to leave when it's growin'.... ~Blooms

Crossville, TN

you guys crack me up....I don't get the whole chocolate thing, but ...

hiya CoronaBarb....you might enjoy our tomato patch as there are some pretty neat heirlooms in there and the pepper patch is of the same ilk. We'd be honored to have you as a guest.

best to all who live in a world where chocolate is better or equal to a man....lol. Takes the pressure off...*snicker*.....*weg*...

hugs to you Jo and to you Blooms.....can't wait to see you again and to meet you in person.
