Magoobu.....

Last year, DH decided to brine the turkey because he saw it on Alton Brown's Food Network show - "Good Eats". We've been frying turkeys for about 4 years now - LOVE them fried. Much juicier and faster too (but it's dangerous - please read all safety percautions!). Last years turkey was absolutely the best we'd ever had. Found out that a brine - made mostly from a liquid of some kind with lots of salt and sugar - actually forces moisture into the meat - some kind of chemical reaction. ANYWHO....you have to prep - i.e. we brined the turkey all day before Thanksgiving (DH has a stash of clean brand new five gallon buckets with tops at work he keeps especially for this!). We used a vegetable broth brine with all types of spices last year and it was really good. Just thought we'd do something different this year. Do a "google" on turkey brine - you'll find lots of suggestions.

Go for it - even if you roast it I bet you'll love it better than any turkey you've ever had!

ALL - DH and went out this evening doing some shopping - and we came out of a store at sunset. I just happened to be facing west - and we live in Memphis now - and you could have SWORN we were looking at a range of mountains. This solid line of clouds - I mean SOLID - looked just like foothills in a sunset. Very strange and beautiful. DH says that's exactly why he wants and pocket digital camera to carry with him - LOL! Neither one of us have photo phones either.....was something to see though.

Good Morning!! Just ate two of the white candy coated pretzels. Someone please take the rest- I just can't leave them alone! Someone mentioned that I eat like a teenager- Hey I think they're right!!

I am typing with a heating pad on my bum arm - decided yesterday to paint the cellerway - started with washing it all down by hand, on a ladder swaying to and fro. T hen painted the ceiling with DH holding the ladder for me. He attempts no household painting and if I want it done, I have to do it. I get resentful sometimes that he is not a helper in that area, but he tackles the machinery, so I guess fair is fair. Anyhow, I am suffering major today with my arm. I am going to do the walls today (that's MY plan, but DH probably has his own)

DH told me that he called the ornery DIL and invited them here for TG. She said she would answer today. DS and DH have to go to Sears and pick up their new frig and install it. It is too big for the space, so they need to do a little carpentry work - me thinks this will be an all day project!!

We;re supposed to have a week of cold and snow here with a pile of it arriving on Wed. evening and Thurs, - just in time for TG. Same thing happened last year. Traveling was the pits.

Yesterday DH and I loaded all my pots up and took them to the barn for the winter. They were waterlogged and frozen solid. One had already cracked - drat. Threw it in the trash. No wonder my arm hurts - I'd forgotten doing that! I had one that had sweet potato tubers literally growing out of the pot - darn, wish I'd seen that I would have dug it up for next year. It was the biggest darn thing I've ever seen. I took cuttings earlier, but have always wanted to start the tuber itself.

I bought one of those roaster things for the turkey this year. I never have enough oven space. We'll see how it works. I like my turkey dry - then dump lots of gravy on it.

Maria, my mom has a set of silverware that my sister and I both want. It is a beautiful old ornate pattern that she got when she was married and never uses it (needs polishing) She thought about splitting the set up and each of us taking 6, but has never done it. My sister NEVER cooks - thus I think I should get it. But mom has already given me so many of her treasures, that if my sister gets it, that will be ok too. I never want to argue about who gets what. The only stipulation is that if my sister dies before me, it comes back to me, so I can pass it on (they have no children)

Well, I hear the cat scratching at the screen, wanting to be let in. Glad to hear that Samson loved his time of complete freedom. Isn't it wonderful just watching them run and run!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Good Morning every one
Grass was very crunchy and white when I took Samson out for his regular business, it 's 30' right now with clear skies.

Daisy, you have handsome boys with great, friendly smiles. Are you saying one of them is getting married or just getting engaged?

Sarv, it is a good idea to split up the silver, there will be no hassle then, you always can add on to it if you need more even if it is in another pattern. One time I set the table with different china for each and different silver flat ware, it loooked very nice.

I would worry myself right out of my skin if any one fried a turkey near my house, it may be better then the convential way but doing it right is just as much worry I can take.

Edited to say, thought of you yesterday, Sarv, I ate a whole box of strawberries for dinner, never done that before ;-))

Up early today, as arm was hurting. Already read most of the paper, and just fixed pancakes for DH and I. We are off to church in a bit. It is going to be a busy day, as we have another church meeting this afternoon. Will check in later. Have a good sunday everyone.

Hi Everyone!
Stayed so busy yesterday, I didn't get to check in. Hi sarv, Maria and anyone else who is up so far.
Yes, Maria ... I agree with you about the fried turkeys. My brother fries them every year, and he scares me to death. He had an accident one year, but he wasn't injured. I live out of town, so don't know the entire story. I know enough that it scares me.
Speaking of turkeys ... bought mine yesterday along with the other stuff I'll need for my TG dinner. My MIL and FIL will be joining us for the holidays. It's always a nice relaxing day. I enjoy doing it as she has done it so many years in the past. It will just be the four of us, so nothing like what some of you will be doing.
Went to 3 groceries, Sams, WM and the mall yesterday. Got a bit of Christmas shopping started. It was close to 8:00 when we got home. Will check in later. Need to start getting ready for church. I hope everyone has a wonderful day today.
Maria, I stumbled on the "Grandmas Apron" thread last night and read and cried until around 1:00. Those are wonderful stories you have written down. It made me ache for my Grandma, though.
Hugs to everyone ... Elaine

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Elaine, Glad you enjoyed reading 'Grandma's memories'. When one becomes older memories can be important, my children keep nagging me to write them down, they don't seem to get enough of them. Mine are the best of my life but also the worst in my life those are difficult to write about

Maria, they are a part of you. Give them to your children. Write everything you can down. My Grandma was the most precious person to me in the whole world. I have some things she wrote and some cassette tapes that are priceless to me. My memories are my most treasured. She was a true southern lady who loved the Lord. I saw where you said you loved history. Don't let your history slip away from your children. :) Hope I haven't offended you or stepped out of line. Your stories TRULY touched me.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Good Morning! Cold and cloudy here, Don't care, going out for breakfast. There's leftover pasties on the counter for Sarv if she wants dinner for breakfast again! Paper plates are on the counter, pasties don't require fine china, just ketchup or chili sauce on a paper plate.

Ironing!! I don't think either of my girls have an iron or an ironing board! I hang my tablecloths on double plastic hangers with a paper towel core slipped over the bottom bar, saves a lot of extra work when you want to use them. I put my silver in ziplocks with those little dehydrators too, but then I suck out all the air with the vac before I seal them, because exposure to air is what causes it to tarnish.
Watched Martha Stewart teach a male guest how to iron a shirt..and sat there nodding and murmuring, "That's right, collar and cuffs first, then the sleeves, then the back etc" LOL She shows people all the stuff the GOBs mothers and grandmothers taught us when we were trained to be homemakers. Not that anybody wants to do it all anymore, but it's nice to know how for special occasions.

Woodspirit, did you find a door? When one of our neighbors was having their house built, the builders threw a perfectly good door in the dumpster, apparently having cut it too short or something. Sent DH and his buddy out in the snow to retrieve it, and it's now part of the new garage. I'm not above dumpster diving....! It's got a metal core, and would probably sell for over $100 and they threw it out!

SuzieQ, I have hoof and mouth disease too. I took a lot of backhanded insults and snide comments from DHs family for a number of years without any support from him, I finally decided not to take it. When his mother commented that our sheets and pillow cases were so "loud" she couldn't sleep in them, I shot back with, "So, painting your bedroom grape puke purple didn't keep you awake?" We don't see her these days....which is fine with him.

Gardengeek, I've lived in Wisconsin for most of my life and I don't know what PV is either. Ate a lot of wild game in my childhood, and will pass on almost all of it...unless somebody has an excess of brook trout, which I'd take in a heart beat! Hope you feel better today so you can enjoy your free weekend.

Darius, get some work out of your sister and sneak a peek in once in a while or you'll never catch up. When you get to Molly's, give her our love and a big hug, you two are going to have a great time in her new space! And flip the bird at your goofy landlord for us, while you are at it.

Betsybug, DH sold our '97 Dodge Caravan to my DD, last year, and it has now passed the 200,000 mile mark and is still chugging along. Of course, being a car fanatic, he'd kept it in peak condition with oil changes etc., like all his toys. Your folks will get good service from it.

Brining is wonderful for any kind of fowl. A few years ago, it was just plain kosher salt and water, but now there's all kinds of recipes for different brines, the cider sounds wonderful. However, I hunt my fresh turkeys at the butcher shop armed with my debit card and a shopping cart. No camo for me. Makes me look fat (ter). LOL

Great shopping adventure Sarv! Last January I hit Linens and Things for their year end clearance, and I'm still amazed at what I picked up. Most of it was marked down 70% to 80%. I got decorator pillows big ones for $5, little ones for $2, wreath hangers for 50 cents, a 3 candle centerpiece with a pedestal for $4, all in all I spent about $30 for $200 of merchandise. I'm sure going to check that sale out again in January!!

We saw that Johnny Cash film this week too, and thought it was very good. Just read that the stars did their own singing, which was not the case with "Ray" where it was dubbed. I think "Ray" was a better film overall. The remark made by Cash's dad, after his drug bust, about him not having to "work so hard at making people think he'd been in prison" was pretty funny.

Bal and Ernie, and everyone else, have a happy Sunday.

Help yourselves to the remaining pasties, otherwise they are going in the freezer!

Betsy thanks my DH is going to brine one turkey and we will roast it and fry another one. I know the dangers there and have heard the stories so he will be very careful

Sometimes I do have to trust that he is a chef with 20 years experience. So I am sure he is going to fry it safely and knows what he is doing.

got all the ironing and polishing done today we will boil a turkey for stock to make the gravy for thanksgiving. then make turkey salad out of the meat. See what I mean?? When a chef does Thanksgiving it is a BIG deal LOL. My Mom laughs that he goes a bit overeboard too LOL.

Hope all are well today and will be checking in .

AND all this talk about sweets has me feeling the pants getting tighter here already better watch my winter intake ROTFLOL

Maria- you think we should split it- really??? Hmm, have to give that one some thought...

DH and DS just left to get the new frig. DS wouldn't leave until we had TG plans all set. I STILL don't know what we are doing!! I think DIL is the problem. She wants to be alone and not cook, so guess I'll honor that - we did invite them over here to ease her burden... guess I'll end up at the other DS's house. Who'd thunk just having 2 kids would cause all this problem...

I meant to put the first coat of wall paint on the cellerway, but since DH left, I don't want to tackle it with no one here (in case I take a tumble head first down the stairs)

Ate a decent breakfast - boiled egg/toast/cider (and 6 pretzel sticks!) LOL finished them up so I wasn't tempted anymore...

Gonna go read for a while....lunch is 1 minute away....

GM GOBs & 'Ettes!!! It's another fine, grey, Navy day! Hubby left for Germany at 0530 and should be on his way across the US as I write this post.

My sister is having an early T-giving today as her DD & SIL are going to CA this week to spend the holiday with his family. It will nice, I won't have to cook this evening and knowing my sister, she will send me home with leftovers. I think it's payment for helping her SIL with Pathophysiology. He's in Radiography Technology (X-ray Tech) school and is having a hard time with Pathophys. Poor guy, he's so close to the end and has done a good job thus far, but he's barely squeaking by with this class. My niece called crying the other day as she's tried so hard to help him as well, but as she says, "Auntie B, my degree is in business not medicine. I don't think what I know about amortization tables will help him see people's bones." LOL They are a nice couple and she has been working hard to support him while he's been attending school.

The pooches are upset already, hubby being gone, they know. They watched him finish packing last night and poor little Willie, he crawled right in on hubby's uniforms and covered himself in the camo jacket. I guess he wants to make sure Daddy Dog gets his scent so he won't forget him? Elbee just stood around watching hubby pack and sighed a lot.

I suppose I should get into the shower and dressed for the day. *heavy sigh*. So, it's off I go. Oh, and to whomever posted.....about the Pickled Vermin.....it was never explained......what is it? If you don't tell me, I'll have to call my friends in Arena, WI and see if they will tell me!

Have a good day everyone! Ciao!

With hugs and care, ~Babs~

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

sheesh- where is everyone???? Just got home from DS and DIL - still not sure about the TG plans. DIL can't decide.......give me patience.....

DH is snoozing, fire is roaring and I may just settle down with a book. My mom has been calling all over from Fla trying to locate me - I feel like a teenager again!! She was worried because I hadn't called her this weekend (talked to her 5 times on Fri tho)

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Yeah, I have been wondering about the PV. Somebody please explain. Sarv, I am so proud of you, a traditional breakfast for a change. Meezer, way to go, I love breakfast out, how do you get DH to do it? Babs, say the pooches are sort of sad without daddy? But won't they be excited when he comes home. My Mr. B. acts like he hasn't seen me for days, and I may have been gone an hour, it's so good to always have someone glad to see you.101, your TG sounds more to my liking than gobs of people. Maria, and 101, your reminesing about grandmothers make me sad, for unfortunately I never knew either of mine. I have a dim memory of paternal grandmother in bed. I was about 2, and mom tells me that is right before she died. I try to do all sorts of things with my DGD, as I want her to have good memories of our times together. Mags, I didn't realize DH was a chef. Or if I did I forgot. And me the amateur trying to give a chef advice about being careful of frying the turkey!!

Well, I have been to church 2 times already today, and have 2 more to go. 2 of these are my church, but the others are struggling churches that have early sun afternoon services 2x a month, and an early evening service at the other. If I had my way, I would skip the other 2, but DH thinks that we need to show support for these struggling churches. Sitting in the garage won't make me a car, so sitting in church is not going to make me a saint.

Well, I'm off again, will check in later when finally at home to watch Desperate Housewives.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

I feel badly for people not knowing their grand parents, mine were wonderful, I even had great grand paerents I could tell a lot about, my father's grand parents, they lived in Vienna, we visited them every Sunday before church. 101 have recorded some of my stories including GM.Ap. in my blog.
Can imagine pets are upset when Papa leaves, but they know he will come back.
I don'r care to eat out too much but breakafast is another story., love it around 10 AM with lots and lots of bacon with eggs benedict or a fluffy omelet with well buttered toast, jam and at least 2 cups of coffee. This will last me till evening and then some. Dh always liked to go for it too, but I have not had this pleasure for quitre a few years.
Have no idea what PV is either, never heard of it, don't know if I want to, sounds awful LOL
Maria

Evening, all.... I am one tired person, but we made a dent in organizing and sorting. Didn't actually pack much yet, but started sorting what goes to Florida and what goes to storage.

Babs, my sister says my cat really misses me since I left her in FL 2 weeks ago. My dog always travelled with me (I don't fly) but I lost her to kidney failure about 3 years ago.

M5, I love going out for breakfast, probably more than for dinner unless it can be an exquisite dinner. I'm kinda like Maria.... I want good bacon, maybe eggs florentine, good buttered toast, but limited coffee. Coffee makes me hyper unless I drink it every day, which I do not.

Sarv, a real, healthy breakfast? My, my... LOL.

Sure I've missed a few people, but I'll be peeking in all week.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Hi all, the stranger is popping in for a bit again. Busy with work and trying to finish painting the bedroom. Thurs. had to go shopping with DD and DGD for a baptism dress for DGD. Found one at David's Bridal. It was gorgeous on her!!

Fri we let right after work for Stockton IL. (mg - I waved hi as we drove by!) DH sold his Cub Cadet mower on ebay to a guy from IN and we met there. The plan was to to go Oostburg to my sister's but didn't work out cuz of DGD's baptism and opening day of the deer season in WI. So we turned around and drove back home -780 miles round trip.

Baptism was this morning, all 3 boys were there too. Good thing I called one, he was still in bed at 10 and had to be there at 10:30 and it's a 20 mi. drive. Rascal! Took a few pics, lighting wasn't too great tho. Back row is Steve-21; Jeff-25; Dan-16. Front row is Kristi-28; me and DH and Samantha-5 is in front.

Wonderful Pictures of your family, Kooger, the little one, in that lovely skirt, is adorable

I know its a little late, but I hope there is one of those delicious pasties left for me! Pretty please! My dad taught me to make them so it gives me a warm feeling to eat them.

We came home from San Francisco this afternoon and it is so warm that it feels like spring, not fall. Leaves from our big liquidamber trees are covering everything. Got to rake again.

Good news, I potted up eight of John's Miniature roses Friday and the deer didn't find them while we were gone. I have the only moveable rose garden in our neighborhood.

Well, back to raking! Thanksgiving is nearly here and I'm ready for some turkey and all of the trimmings! Meanwhile, pasties??? Maybe.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

bksmall, is this your first time here, or did you in the posts I skipped while I was in Florida? In either case, Welcome to Coffee!

Kooger, wonderful photos, looks like a happy family!

Darius - I read a lot, but post seldom. I just couldn't resist the pasties today and all of the fun friendly conversation. Good luck with your move!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Hey, forgot to add Happy Birthday, bk!!!

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Kooger...what a beautiful family you have there! Thanks for sharing the pics!

Welcome bksmall! If someone mentioned the Pasties, you can be assured there are *plenty* to go around. :-)

Hi everyone...I'm not spending much time on the computer and as a consequence I'm not really keeping up with the going's on.

Darius, I see that you're getting ready to head south in the very future. In case I miss the actual departure...Here's a ~WAVING~ for you. Hope everything goes well between 'here' and 'there'.

Well...it's back to sorting the stuff I through on the floor from my desk. Had to be done in order to get to the big printer to print some 13 x 19 prints for DH. :-(

I'll get tomorrow's daily up later and will be back with the link.

Welcome BK, help yourself, our cyber goodies are non fattening. I hope. If you've been peeking, you know we have a cyber 2X4 that we use on wayward spouses, naughty teens, or unpleasant inlaws, and you are free to use it at any time.

DH has been very good about breakfast out on Sunday morning, (he finally figured out that I wasn't cooking!) as well as the Friday movie after work. With a senior price of $3 even a stinker isn't a big disappointment. So we go on Friday unless there's nothing we want to see. Other than that we have virtually no social life....he doesn't like to visit people, but is usually quite happy if they drop by. He'd make a great hermit. Surprised he talks to me.

I'm done for the day. Going to do the potato thing on the couch, and watch Desp. Housewives. See y'all in the morning.

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Welcome BK!!

Stared my day by taking DH out for breakfast, but then make him go to the grocery store with me. He was actually very well bahaved, didn't end up with alot of "extras" in the cart.

Came home and switched another load of laundry and ran the dishwasher. Then, cut the asparagus bed, cleaned the back porch and put up our new log holder. That will sure make hauling in wood for the stove easier when it snows.

Dinner with MIL was not so bad. I have figured out that if I just ignore her when she starts badmouthing other family members, she seems to get the hint and drops it.

It was a beautiful day here. They're talking about snow here maybe on Thanksgiving. That could mean DH will have to go to work if it snows bad enough to need plowing.

Sarv - glad to hear you had a "normal" breakfast today. LOL

Kooger - Good looking family!

Meezer - Don't think I've ever had pasties. They do look good, what are they stuffed with?

Sorry I didn't mention everyone. Eyes are starting to close. Nite Nite all. See ya tomorrow.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Welcome and Happy Birthday, bk! Excellent day to chime in!

julie - forgot to thank u for the check. If they don't make it thru the winter, LMK, I'll send u some more!

You guys are all so kind and I thank u all! Aren't grandkids just the greatest? She is my sunshine!!!!

Just took a Dutch Apple pie and Pumpkin pie from the oven. Sorry, they're not homemade - DH picked them up at the grocery store. But they smell good. There's still some 'scratch' chocolate cake left too - with 'real' whipped cream and raspberry sauce. Have some...... (I'm having rasp. sauce with icecream - blew my low fat/chol. diet to pieces today and yesterday. Back on track tmr!)

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Lovely family Kooger. Nice to be able to have them all together.

Welcome Bksmall, I hear on the San Andreas Fault line your roses aren't the only moveable thing. lol There's a bunch of frightfully interesting ladies on this thread and you're sure to have an exciting time.

Dinner tonight was a special treat. Fred Meyer's (Kroger) has lutefisk on for $ 5.95 a pound so tonight we had lutefisk with white sauce (melted butter for the better half), boiled potatoes and peas. No rommegrot or lefsa though, only toast and jam for dessert. But what a delight that was. Only setback was Immy poo##%g on the carpet.

Went to Toys Are Us to pick up 2 bikes for the GD's Christmas gifts. What a crazy place. Not that it is a crazy place, just the mobs that shop there. The checker said the day after TG they open at 5:00 and it is unbelievable. I haven't done any Christmas shopping for years, and I sure 'aint starting now!! The best part of the trip was stopping at Trader Joe's for some wonderful cheeses and Belgian chocolate. Love that store.

M5, your DH sounds a lot like me. Hate going places, don't like visiting but it's OK for them to come here, on occasion, and I'd also make a decent hermit. Don't go to movies though, too many people, strange people.

Dinner right off the stove.

MMMM Smells good too. Enjoy!!

Just popping in to say hello to everyone before I'm off to bed. Y'all are making me drool on my keyboard! :-D The next few days are going to wiz by with all the cleaning and prep for the holidays. I do have one funny story to tell before I'm off, though. Hope you don't mind indulging me a minute.
One of the things I love to do for the holidays is ... I hang bells on every possible doorknob in the house. It's just my little way of enjoying the season. Well, I taught my girl to run over and ring the bell at the carport door last year. It has a great big bow on it which hangs from the knob, so I kept placing biscuits in the bow until she noticed them. One day, she reached up to grab the biscuit free from the bell and accidently touched it which made it ring. I praised her over and over ... saying "You can ring the bell! What a good girl." I kept this up until she learned after only a few times to run over and bump the bell with her nose that she'd get a biscuit. Okay, I'm making this too long. Today, I took out the bells and hung them up. She ran over and rang the bell. I laughed so hard as I couldn't believe she remembered this ever since last year. Wish I could get a picture. It's the cutest thing you've ever seen! LOL :)
Hope everyone has a wonderful night. Hugs to all. ... Elaine

Maria, yes, I feel that I have been cheated by not knowing grandparents. The only grandparent I remember is paternal grandfather. He lived with his children probably 15 years after his wife passed. He was a funny old character, and taught me and twin sister to sing old gospel songs, and to play the mandolin. He rotated his visits between father and aunt, staying about 6 weeks at a time.

Darius, congratulations on the progress being made, if not packing, then sorting. Animals are funny, when you see your cat again, she will probably snub you for awhile, punishing you for leaving her!!. So when do you plan on hitting the road?

Kooger, great looking family. I have been trying to think of a way to have the grandchildren first, they are so much more fun than the children. Thanks for the offer of the pies, but am full. Had snacks after the business meeting at church.

bksmall welcome, if you have been lurking, you are probably familiar with this bunch. Great bunch of people. I envy anybody who can raise roses. I just hasten their demise. and BTW, happy birthday. Post more often.

Meezer, at least if you have to live with a hermit, he takes you out on Friday and Sunday breakfast. My DH has never met a person he doesn't like. Invites everybody, sometimes for meals, without telling me. One time to make a point about needing advance notice, when I cook a meal, I only cook for 2 people, 2 pork chops, 2 hamburgers, you get the idea. Well, one time he brought someone home for supper without notice, and when I served the pork chops, put one on my plate and one on the visitors plate. He said later, you could have shared-- I said you could have told me too. That doesn't happen much anymore, as he loves to eat,.

susieq, stop it, you are making me tired just reading about what you have done today. Your eyes should be about closing, now what are you going to do tomorrow? About MIL, yep, I have found if you don't comment, they are likely to shut up, as they don't have a captive audience.

Bal, I don't shop well either. I have a friend who goes Friday after TG, as all the malls have Christmas sales. It is packed, I went once and walked into the mall, saw the crowds, and turned around and came home. It is madness, and I will not participate in it. If you say sale here, people go crazy, push, shove and walk all over you. Not for me please. I do a lot of shopping by catalogue, and on the net. I have never been harmed while browing the catalogues in my recliner!!LOL. Poor Immy, I bet she was upset that you didn't share dinner with her. Don't be hard on her, it takes awhile to get it right.

Well, I am worn out, and will go to bed soon. I have several things I still need to do outside, so I am hoping for 2 good days to get it all done. I haven't heard our weather today, so don't know what to plan for. My week looks pretty good. Looked at my calendar while I was sitting here at the desk, and all that is on it is a night out Tuesday night. Friends of ours called tonight and invited us out, their treat. Lovely couple, and looking forward to it.

Well night all, hope you have good dreams, or none if you wish. Stay warm.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Good Evening All,

Just got in from the property. Went up yesterday, got a late start, was slowed down by a roll over in N Palm Beach and very heavy rainstorms through the 2 following counties. Needless to say, I arrived at my new place after dark.

The electrician had been there, although no power yet. His trencher broke and he had to dig by hand, poor thang. But he's young and can take it. :^))) But I had to be careful in the dark. The trench was in my path to the door. I took the sofa bed mattress with me to sleep on, refrained from picking up any beer from the corner store, (septic not hooked up yet).

My DS suddenly became very concerned about my safety (he stayed home with the animals) My new place is out in the country and there are only a couple neighbors in my immediate vicinity, and not that close. My place is 5 acres (give or take) and lots of woodsy areas adjoining. So it's very dark out there.

I didn't have the whole 5 cleared. I left a lot of pines on the front 2 acres and the back acre isn't cleared at all.

So anyway, I ate left over in the car pizza for dinner, drank water, read a book by flashlight and discovered why no one wants to stay overnight at my house. That mattress isn't fit for my doggies. The springs poke through thin fabric.

I did tell you 2 weeks ago the trailer was put in, so I did have a roof. Great news, septic is in the ground, (Darius, I did too get to see it, the end anyway. They left it exposed to get to the hook-up holey part). And the well is done.

The PODS people will come for the container in my driveway on Friday, Saturday we take the animals, my DS, my mustang, the generator and gas containers up.

I am completely optomistic that the electric will NOT be in service by next weekend. The elctrican will finish tomorrow, then the power company has to get out to engineer the road to my pole hookup, then they have to actually do it. With this being Thanksgiving week, I know there isn't enough time to do all that, hence, the need for the generator. My brother says I can use it for as long as I need it.

Marcia, I have a thread going here in Parking Lot called Changes II and Changes IIa with pictures and everything. Bonnie, so far, my cell phone number is staying the same. I will have a local number and I have it written down somewhere, but it won't be in service until after 12/01. Phone Company IS Bell South and they also will have to run lines from the road up 300 feet (give or take) to my house.

"Give or Take" is a common rural term so I thought I would start acting rural (also known in those parts as redneck?) The truth of the matter is, I come from redneck stock, so have decided to settle down to being the real me. :^)))))

Enough yammering for now.

Oh, 101 what a cute story. They do learn quickly, and seem so proud when they please us. Hope you will enjoy this tradition for years to come. Good Night.

Molly, I thought everyone knew the term give or take. Tells you a lot about me huh? Glad to hear that you are so close to finally being moved in. I know the utility people can be so slow when you are waiting for them. What is the name of the nearest town, city to you? That will help me a lot to know the "there abouts" location. I still have the butterfly bush, I have "heeled it in" and it is dormant, so maybe spring would be the ideal time to send it. Now pick it out a nice new home.!! I haven't checked your changes thread lately, will do that now. Hope work goes well for you this week.

defoecat, seems I've been missing you a lot lately! Hugs to you and yours!

101 good to hear from you. I may just give you a call tomorrow. I have missed you, seems our schedules differ tremendously.

Please do. I'll be home! ;)

sarv and defoe - take care of yourselves. What is it with these bum arms?

Maria - I agree. WRITE THOSE STORIES DOWN! Now I'll stop shouting. But they are not just about you. They are also part of your children's heritage.

darius - glad to hear you've made some progress with the sorting.

bksmall - I remember seeing your name before, but I've been doing a lot of fast reading. If you're new, welcome. Oh, now I read your later post. Hope you pipe up more often. What direction is San Andreas from San Francisco?

It was a lovely day here in Ottawa today. But I could have told you that months ago when I got my Ottawa Symphony rehearsal schedule. With rehearsals on Sunday afternoon AND evening the day before the concert, you can pick out the nicest Sundays of the year just looking at those dates.

We actually got out of evening rehearsal about 40 minutes early and tomorrow noon is cancelled. The choir had some problems and was kept for some time after orchestra was let go this evening. I guess having the choir takes the heat off the orchestra. LOL

So the program celebrates the 150 anniversary of Ottawa with tributes to the heritage of founding people - O Canada, Weber's Jübel Overture which ends with God Save the Queen (America to you Yanks), Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance March #1 which had "Land of Hope and Glory" (an 'almost' national anthem) and La Marseillaise which celebrates the French culture here and, I guess, leads into the second half of the program which is Daphnis et Chloë Suites I and II.

We got out so early, that I actually dropped by the end of the rehearsal for the other orchestra I play in which always rehearses on Sunday evening. And with no lunch time rehearsal tomorrow, I'll be able to get to Aquafit class in the morning and still get some solid practice time in.

Better call it a day.

Have a good night everyone.

Ann
