When you get your Christmas tree up, post pictures!

Thank you, nap. I agree. But I am through with the discussion. I have said what there is to say. Time to get back to what this thread was started for.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

C'mon you guys...This thread started out as a lighthearted thread to show holiday decorations! I'm sure there are MANY things we all disagree about and there's always private e-mail and other websites for debates. That's not what DG's about -- it's about finding the common bonds we have. Let's not ruin that.

In the spirit of the thread originally started, here's our tree! =) The dogs are Emma and Sarah. 'Scuse our not yet having the tree skirt under the tree just yet.

This is such a good idea for a thread, Ron. I'll be watching it with great interest. Your tree is spectacular and so are the other things in that room.

GW, that's a beautiful tree, but why are your sweet doggies looking in the opposite direction? Is the tree old hat to them already?

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

There was interest in the form of a cat outside, I think (or the prospect of there being a cat outside).

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

Ah, perfectly understandable. They're beautiful dogs.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I know you'll all think we're weird, but we don't put up a tree anymore. There's only the two of us, we have no one in our family under 30, don't spend a lot of time at home. We put up some holiday decorations and light the outside up with white lights, but no tree. So I'll just lurk here and see what you all are doing.

Sioux City, IA(Zone 4b)

This is a tree done by the Fire Department auxiliary (I'm a member) for a local fundraiser. There are about 30 trees from different organizations to be auctioned off. I'll post my home tree picture on Sunday (I think).

You're not weird for that, nap (although you may be weird for other reasons that I don't know about. Just teasing! ; ) ) My MIL has an ornament stand instead of a tree. It's about 2 feet tall and has gold coloured wire hangers arching out from the top of it (wish I could describe it better!) It holds 12 ornaments, so she selects her favourites and puts them on it. She sets it on a stool with a cloth draped over it and puts her gifts under it. I think it's really cool. : )

We didn't put up a tree last year because I was too darned depressed. Ya know what? Having no Christmas tree made me even more depressed! I ended up hauling out this little white plastic tree I had from when DH and I were first married and put decorations on it. That made me feel much better.

This year, we're getting a real tree, gosh-durn it! ; )

I'm still trying to decide about my tree. If all my family does come in, I really would like to go with an 11' foot one again, but boy! is it difficult to decorate! It just looks so good and the kids love it so much, and I'm the only one in the family with room to do one that big. I suspect, knowing myself well enough, if I see one around the property that looks right, I'll do it. I'm going to look back through my pics to see if I can find one of the other big one and post it. I just hope I didn't lose those pics last week when two of our computers crashed and died, taking everything with them. We have backups of most of what was on them, but not sure about those pics.

Well I haven't found a pic of that tree, but this shows my unusual style Advent wreath. Sorry its a little fuzzy, but I'll be doing it again this year and will get a better shot of it.

NOTE: This thread has been edited to remove the sidebar conversation that was detracting from the point of the thread, and I now return you to your "regularly scheduled programming" ;o)

gw - beautiful dogs and tree. could we have a closeup of the tree, please? belinda

Timberlea, NS(Zone 6a)

Thank you, Terry. : )

Rhonda

Thank you, Terry. Good thing, because even after such a thread is dropped by those who instigated it, other members, new to the thread, don't bother to see that it's old, and they may add their comments. Good thing to have it gone. Thanks for your kind response to my D-mail, and for all you do to keep this great site going! Trust you had a HAPPPY Thanksgiving!

Ron,

Are some of your ornaments "Old World Ormaments"? Although this is my favorite time of year, and I love decorating for it. The last couple of years we have not put up the 6-8 trees that I have in the past.

If I put up any of them, it is the miniture tree, way up high so the cats can not reach it. Afterall, Cats + Chrismas Trees = Disaster in this house. The last time I put the big trees up all of them insisted on climbing them, so we didn't put anything but lights on them. They had a great time living and playing in the trees until they were took down.

I've collected Christmas ornaments the last 36 years and continue to do so. Please keep the pictures coming!

Annie

Spring Valley, CA(Zone 10a)

Annie, a lot of them are the hand-blown Italian ornaments. Like you, I've been collecting for over 40 years, but I 'm an opportunistic collector. I pick them up out of season and in little off-the-wall places where they are dirt-cheap. No way am I paying the outrageous prices that the glossy catalogs command.

The tree only has about 1/3 of the ornaments on it. :-)

I wait for sales also. I have a few of the Old World, some were give to me as gifts, and a couple I bought. I also collect the hallmark, but like you, they are mostly bought after season, at antique stores, yardsales, etc.

Your tree is just beautiful, keep the pictures coming.

What a beautiful sight, Starzz. Did you already manage to do all of that this year, or is that a picture from a previous year?

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

Beautiful Christmas trees! I will post mine later.. (two trees)! :o) We set it up after Thanksgiving.

Sioux City, IA(Zone 4b)

DH and I got the tree up and decorated last night. Today lights are going on the bushes outside, slowly but surely getting things done.

Here is the tree that I will take to work with me. I am about the only one in the office that does this. I refuse to be a Scrooge like everyone else. When I first started at my job everyone had decorations and the whole office was decorated. Now people seem pretty unhappy and the decorations have went to the side.

merigold, your room looks so inviting, love it!

Howie, love your little tree. I'll be doing one at work also, my boss is a veteran so I think I'll put my patriotic tree at his house this year. See how much I like trees? I'm pawning them off on people LOL

Okay, here's a few close-ups, as requested. Two of the ornaments my grandma used to have:

A Santa Howie made in 1993. He's made from salt dough, I believe. Above is our dog Emma's puppy collar. :) It doesn't even fit over her face now! And to the right of Santa is a plastic ornament with mirrors inside which reflect prettily; it was Grandma's, too.

One of Grandma's students stitched this for her and made this ornament.

My crazy Martian lady on the Moon, made the same time as Howie's Santa, 1993. To the left is a bubble light.

The red reindeer my mom gave me. He's one of my favorites with his long, dangling legs.

Another from Grandma's collection, a handmade cardinal.

Several...We used to hang beaded garland around our tree, but after seeing our friend's tree one year, we did like her and cut the beads into sections, then hung the sections individually. When there are many, it's quite striking!

A couple more of my handmade ones from the same Christmas of 1993.

Enough already with the pictures...Howie agrees. Emma's trying to sleep, you know. ;)

Our tree isn't as elegant as some, but it sure brings us smiles each year as we unwrap certain ornaments from our hodgepodge. The puppy collar's one of our favorites, and each year we put it on Emma's face and marvel that it ever hung loose around her neck.
