I would love to raid the yard of that house... just raid the yard and sell the house.. I like my house and I could get all our bills paid off and get a good nest egg to retire one day..... ahhhh would be the life...
Texas Statewide Roundup - April 29th, 2006
WEll, WHEN I win it I will have a week-long DG RU there first....then sell it ...
I think you have to live in it for a certain amount of time...but since I have so many relatives neaby, we could have a family reunion as well. Jo
Woo hoo! Party at Jo's house! Sounds like fun. :-)
Ok I think I can keep SheilaFW and City Sylvia straight. Thank goodness for id pages.! Now I can concentrate on Sylviatexas. Names with faces help keep me from getting lost.:)
Mary Lee
Mary Lee, though we have never met, I feel like I know you from the pictures of the Kerrville RU pics. Since then, I can picture you when I read your posts!
Sheila, yep pictures are worth a thousand words aren't they? By this time next month, there'll be a lot more pictures doin' a lot a talkin'.:)
Marylee, I remember you from the Hosta forum. you were over for a little bit ... I think our craziness over there probaly ran you off. ...Hostas is mine passion ... which is where I spend my other DG time. Two forums is about all I can handle. LOL
Sylvia
No you didn't run me off:) I just found out what I needed to know. I should spend more time in the other forums, but for some reason I keep gravitating back to this one. Maybe because I have more faces for names in this one.:) Sometimes I read through the daylilies, tropicals, and bulbs.
I am the one who said you had a sweet looking face, remember? For some reason or the other your picture was somewhere...... can you tell I am at work? I am just rambling on...lol
Sylvia@work
Yes, I remember that. It's been a long time since anybody told me I had a sweet looking face. That was many wrinkles ago.:) You probably saw my picture on the Nov 05 RU thread. I hope there are lots of good pictures from this RU too.
Mary Lee
Sylvia...Get Back to Work!!! LOL!!
Good Morning ... I am on my way to work now ... soon as I get my arthiritis to calm down! Lawd I sure hope its warm on the 29th or I will be in the crippling situation as I was in Italy...:(
Sylvia
Awh Sylvia, the adrenaline will kick in that morning and we won't feel a thing@ LOL!
Hi everyone, i just found this site and realized you are having a get-together about 1/2 mile from where I live!!!!I am one of dave's garden newest members(joined yesterday!!) so i don't "know" anyone yet, but will try and stop by on saturday. This looks like an awesome group. can't wait to read old posts and learn a lot..nancy
Hi Nancy. Welcome!!! What a terrific opportunity you have to meet DGers right after joining. You really do need to stop by :-)
Sharon
Nancy welcome to Dave's Garden and I know you will enjoy every one. We are a frendly bunch and will have lots of plants to take home.
Welcome Teacup (Nancy)!! Boy what a great time to join! You better bring a truck and hang out with us for a while, you will be going home with plants for sure.
Oh and several of us are meeting for breakfast at the Golden Corral about 8:30 or 9 am. too.
Nancy...I'm in Bryan and relatively new here as well. Do come to the RU, it'll be lots of fun and I can't wait to meet fellow gardeners in my area.
:) Kim
Welcome Nancy, now there are three of us that I know of that could walk to the gathering!
Bob
Welcome to Dave's Garden. It's a wonderland of gracious and helpful people with plants to share. As you may have already discovered, you don't need to bring anything to trade. And if you do bring something it doesn't have to be plants. Sheila is bringing yard art, for example. Whatever you do, show up and enjoy!
Mary Lee
Hi, Guys (including the newest newbie, Nancy!...I just joined 2-3 weeks ago!) I'm getting envious that you are all going to meet and trade plants! I live too far for this one (DH just comes home on weekends so I have to do what he wants most of the time!!). Please plan to meet in Austin soon...this summer??
These are my favorite great nurseries for when you're in Austin: 1. Gardens on 6th Street
2. The Great Outdoors in the SoCo area 3. Big Red Sun in East Austin 4. John Dromgoole's The Natural Gardener (southwest Austin) 5. Barton Springs Nursery and 6. Pots and Plants (both in Westlake) 7. Elements (mostly gardening STUFF, in the Medical Center area) and many others, including my favorite for GOOD PRICES and that YEAR LONG GUARANTEE...Home Depot!

Hi, Connie. Sorry you can't make this one, but maybe if we have another one in Kerrville, you could get to that one. I would volunteer my house, but it probablly would have to be a small RU.:( Ya'll might have to take come in shifts.LOL
Mary Lee
How many people usually attend?
Connie, bring DH with you to College Station! It's not far from Austin.
Have you been to It's About Thyme out Manchaca Rd.? (Can't believe they pronounce it as "Manshack") It's one of my favorite plant places in Austin. http://www.itsaboutthyme.com/
Marbridge Farms is another good one, even further out Manchaca Rd. I love The Great Outdoors too. A get-together in the Austin area would be good!
Patricia
Patricia, are you talking about a nursery tour or a RU? We did a nursery tour last year and had a blast. It would be great to do that again, and go to different nurseries. The only two I've been to that were mentioned are the Natural Gardener and Pots and Plants. Those 2 are really good, but it would be nice to see some different ones.
Mary Lee
I guess a nursery tour, Mary Lee. It's a lot easier to organize! LOL I really enjoy going to It's About Thyme. They have much more than herbs (roses, perennials), and prices are really good. I am sure there are many great plant places in the area that I have not discovered yet, so I'd love to explore more.
Patricia
You guys in and around College Station can't walk to the RU!! You won't have any way of hauling all those plants home when us from too far away can't get them in our vehicles!! LOL!
I'm going to It's About Thyme and Marbridge Farms tomorrow after work since you suggested it! Thanks for the tip. Someone had told me about MF but I had forgotten!! I wish my garden were finished...I would host a RU myself...but in the fall would be more realistic. Here's a couple of pics of my bare bones!! You can see I will be busy in the coming months!!
Clean Slate!! Boy what I wouldn't give for the grass and rocks to be gone in my "no man's land" at the back! I see a sprinkler system, so that means more time to DG!!
No, Connie, you don't want to wait til your garden is finished! For one thing a gardener's garden is never done. Also if you wait then what 'll you do with all the plants you'll get from the RU?:)
I moved to College Station from Austin last summer. i REALLY miss the nurseries there. Natural Gardener, Gardens,It's a Jungle etc. Also the shows at lady Bird Johnson Wildflower center and Zilker park.....And the great garden tours they have in Austin..I better stop before I'm depressed......So it's great that we are having this get together next week...someone to talk to about plants......
Sheila, don't worry about me walking to the RU from my house.I had a run-in with a forklift while standing in the plant aisle at our local Lowe's back in february...I'm ok but have to be a little careful of my ankle and foot.(gives me an excuse to only walk a few minutes on the treadmill instead of my usual 30-45)
How cool, Nancy, to get to come to this special RU right after joining DG!! It will be really neat to meet you. And you'll get to meet Dave (The Man) and Trish (The Woman), lol!!
Connie, yes, we had a great time doing the nursery thing in Austin last year. The Natural Gardener really welcomed us, I'm dying to go back for a longer visit. I've been to The Great Outdoors several times, but it's always way more fun when you get to go with other people who are as crazy about gardening as you.
Both of you, check out this "sticky" thread from the top of the threads on the forum. You can scroll down in the first post to find links to pics of gatherings we had last year (Roundups, swaps, and Nursery Dates.) You'll feel like you know us in no time!
teacup,
have you had a chance to visit the Rose Emporium or Martha's Bloomer's? They're both around 30 minutes from south College Station.
I hope to tour Martha's Bloomers with some other DGers while I am there. Their brouchure makes it look really interesting.
Nancy do look at the pictures of the previous swaps, I have not been to many but like Mary said, it makes you feel like you know the people in no time. Look forward to meeting you.
I don't know how many other DGer's there are in Austin, but maybe the next time we schedule a trip over there, we can arrange a meeting with you and me and Michelle (tomatoholic) atleast. We go there once in awhile on business, but I have no idea when the next time will be.
Mary Lee
AggieCorgi, Yes i have had a chance to go to Antique Rose Emporium and really liked it.It is my favorite so far of this area.I got several roses and thought they had a nice selection of perennials too. i have visited martha's Bloomers but have only bought a few things there.. their indoor area was really nice and I think they are selling Smith and Hawken stuff now also, but the times I have been there they didn't have any plants that made me pull out the charge card .... i haven't had a chance to go to their food area but plan to do that when my mom comes to visit in May...
Hi All,
Thanks for all the "welcomes"!!! And yes, you are probably right. I should not feel like I have to "finish" the gardens before having gatherings/parties! Teacup...where is "It's a Jungle"??? I don't know about that one! I just discovered Big Red Sun recently and it's now my favorite!!!
I bought 9 "brownish" grasses there this afternoon and one "fiber optic" grass to look at for awhile to see if I want to use it "en masse." Do any of you like the grasses look? I'm doing a contemporary-ish garden and want to use lots of them. I'm going to look for the "sticky" thread (what tha heck is that??? ha) and see what y'all look like so I have faces to attach to names. I posted a pic of Roger and me on my info page when I signed up so I guess it's there!
Connie
Connie, I do like grasses, and have long loved the fiber optic. It's just that it dies on me every time. :-( I'm trying to get some seed for Inland Sea Oats (a TX native), the seed heads are so pretty.
The "sticky" threads are the ones at the very top of the Texas Gardening Forum page. They stay at the top all the time so they are easy to find and use. You can also click on the link in my post abaove, it will take you straight to the page I was telling you about.
Connie, your description of the photo is there but not the pic. Try again by clicking on 'my info' tab, then click on 'managing your preferences', then 'your photo'. Unlike the post on the threads, it WILL allow you to reload a different picture anytime.
As for the "sticky", LOL!, it is like a post-it-note on the monitor, etc. It holds the item in the forefront so you can find it easy. Go to the forum "Texas Gardening" and you see the top two posts say "sticky". One has the calendar of events. When you click there, look at the posts BELOW the line.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That is those plant swaps, etc. that are over and have pictures posted to show what went on, who was there and have a lot of posts.
Edited to say Oops I doubled up on Mary!! LOL! Guess Connie can get the message! LOL!
