Texas Statewide Roundup - April 29th, 2006

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

He is two now - ask Josephine! Today we went to her shop and he showed her the sweet boy is learning very fast...

McKinney, TX(Zone 7b)

Mitch, the girls are quite used to watching kids. They usually get roped into it at the Lewisville swaps. I'll try & remember to pack some toys & videos too. Since we'll have electric, I'll bring my laptop & have it playing movies for the kids.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Sounds great - I dont know if any one else here will bring kids... but let me know what they would like for their thankyou.

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Seems like the kids have a good time at these gatherings.
I'm a lurker here. But I made it to the mid-Atlantic round-up last yr LOL
And am intending the California this yr.
/;-)~Blooms - watching to see how one puts one of these together.

Hey Dave, is this practice for an attempt at a whole DG ru?
Just teasing.

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

Yay, Blooms! Good to know you're thankin' about coming to this one.

Ya know, it could turn into a national RU if we put a link to this thread in our favorite forums.

John

whole DG ru

Sounds good to me, but I don't know if everyone could travel so far. I think having 500 DGers in one place would be pretty amazing!

Dallas, TX

Sooooooo Mitch are you thinking about coming now?
Personally I dont see Chi as a problem, as long as he is eating.... LOL He is a sweetheart babysit.
Sylvia

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Yep Sylvia I really hope to be there if I dont have to tutor Sat school that day.

McKinney, TX(Zone 7b)

I was just reminded that my daughter's band banquet is scheduled for Friday night. (She plays clarinet & alto sax in her HS band.) So, I'll either be driving in the dark or leaving really early in the morning on Saturday. Do we have an idea on what time this is going to start? I'm kind of bummed, 'cause I wanted to be there for any Friday night activities, but....

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8b)

Ok- I need a couple of people to volunteer for setting the schedule for the event. Two people ought to be enough. Any volunteers?

I'll work out food arrangements....we're still deciding exactly what we want to do about it, so stay tuned for that.

Also, we'd like to do some door prizes. It would be great if people would volunteer to bring something for the prizes!! If you would be interested in contributing, please email me!

Thanks!!!
Trish

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

What sort of door prizes?

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

If I'm not too intrusive, door prizes can be planters, home made or purchased, garden gloves, a special shovel, even a mantis, or other tool someone is no longer able to use themselves. A bonnet, gardening books, etc.
Since I don't want any grass I have an "antique" grass plugger I will be donating to whichever next RU I go to.
I won a beautiful vase at the Spring Ga RU last year.

I need to be working, but am checking on tickets to Texas for this RU.
I am a native Texan that has been drug through the south for the last 30 years. You can sure tell it when I speak.
Sidney

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Is there a thread for posting plants we need or have for trade?
Mary Lee

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

bump.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Has the park location been nailed down yet?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Mary Lee, I don't think there is one yet, It is probably a little early, but I am sure there will be one, and a very busy one at that.
Josephine.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

I thought we had a park Josephine... but I could be wrong - I am getting used to being wrong.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh, I forgot about the door prize, need to email Trish!

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

I'm new. What's a roundup?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Someone else could answer that a lot better than me, since I haven't been to one myself yet. I have lived vicarously though through the pictures from other roundups. Here is the link to the list of previous and future gatherings. Look at the ones that say "completed" and by then some others may chime in.

Here is a more direct link to the one that was in Kerriville;

Sheila,

Thanks for the links! Sounds like fun. Grrr...see I just missed the one nearest me! I love Kerrville! And just moved from College Station a year+ ago. LOL!
Aimee

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Mitch Mary Lee was asking about a thread for posting have's and want's for trade at the RU and I said I didn't tink one had been started yet.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

I see Josephine see wrong again!

Terry will the seeds I listed be ok for door prizes? Let me know before I offer them in the seed traders forum fo SASE.

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Aimee, a Roundup is a face-to-face gathering of DG members. We can finally place faces to names, get to know each other, talk gardening, and many people also bring plants to swap or give away. It's incredibly fun to meet people that you have previously only known through your keyboard! There's food, plants, and gardeners (in other words, FUN!)...... What more could a person want? Hope you can make it!
:-)

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I made reservations at the Quality Suites today. I'm getting very excited! :-) We're pushing 70 people now... Should we just go for the Central Park pavilion and plan to use all the extra space for plants? That will assure us of plenty of parking and tables and etc...

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

There are three or four of us that have booked at the Fairfield Inn Marriott. Two of us will be staying Friday night, anyone up for meeting for breakfast Sat. morning???
Any suggestions on a place from someone that is local there???

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Saturday breakfast sounds fun! I'll watch for details, don't know if I'll be able to join you (depends on how easy it is to get my sister(s) going.)

Mansfield, TX(Zone 8a)

Breakfast sounds wonderful.

Dallas, TX

Yippee!! I will bring a door prize too. What are we doing about food? or did I miss that too. ...anybody for a baby Mimosa tree?

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

If you're trying to give the tree away, maybe it can be one of those door prizes? :o)

What do we do if we want to donate a door prize? Or how does that work? I've never been to one of these and am new to DG.

Yippee!!!!!!!! My mom moves to College Station on 4/15, just in time for the Roundup!!!!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Trish is the one you need to email about donating a door prize. Look back 20 or so posts on this thread.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Reminds me Trish I still have not heard from ya if you want the seeds for Door Prizes. Just let me know...

Dallas, TX

Mitch are you coming?

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

How could I stay away! Looks like all the kids did fine so I and crossing fingers and planting seeds!!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

bump.....
just incase some information is needed from here by those just joining the party.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Is there any definitive place where the information about his roundup is posted? I have scrolled through the messages, but I still don't feel like I know enough to "enlist". I don't want to be a freeloader, and I do want to go to the right place at the right time. I just talked to my hubby (who became an MG this last year and is out in that garden with me- yippee!), and he has agreed to go with me (didn't have to twist his arm, either). So, do we need to sign up somewhere? I'm sure there must be some other newbies out there who feel a little bewildered about all of this, like I do....

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi, ceejaytown!

Here are the basic details for you:

April 29th, from 10am until the park people boot us out. Southwood Pavilion, Southwood Athletic Park, College Station, TX. Click here for a map: http://www.cstx.gov/home/index.asp?page=661

To confirm you are coming, post here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/573122/

To sign up to bring munchies (Dave & Trish are providing lunch for us, bless their hearts), post here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/581207/

To post a list of plants you have available to trade and to see what other people have to give away, post here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/586076/

You do NOT have to bring plants to come!!! We have fun just getting together and complaining about the lack/over-abundance of rain/bugs/weeds/rabbits/deer/snakes, etc etc etc... We'd love to meet you and your husband!!!

If you don't see anything you want in the trade list but you have plants to give away, bring them along. There will be a plant swap in the pavilion and someone is sure to want what you have. Make sure there is room in your trunk to take plants home!! The last one to leave always ends up with all sorts of goodies, 'cuz there are always tons of plants at these and there are always some left over. :-) You don't have to have something exotic!! I listed monkey grass and someone already asked for it. Woo-hoo! (He didn't say how MUCH he wanted... I wonder how many acres he wants to fill? LOL)

There has been talk about field trips to some nurseries in the area, but those plans haven't been firmed up yet. People are staying in various motels in the area either Friday night, Saturday night or both. Saturday morning there is a group meeting at the Golden Corral (700 University Dr. East, College Station) for breakfast at 8:30-ish. Here's a map: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=700+University+Dr+E,+college+Station,+TX

I'm sure I've forgotten something... That should give you a good beginning, though. I hope you can come!!

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Congratulations to your hubby on becoming a MG. Maybe when I retire (Ha, fat chance of that).

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Marylyn, you are a doll! Thanks so much for all that information - I am feeling much more confident now. I think I can handle it! I will sign up in all the right places, and I hope to meet you in College Station!!
