Texas Statewide Roundup - April 29th, 2006

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh! I was hoping to meet you Margie, you just don't meet a queen every day.
I hope you get well soon.
Josephine.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

I am so sorry to hear that, loudigger. I was looking forward to meeting you! Take good care of yourself. I hope I can put a face and name to you soon.
CJ

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

We'll have to do a nursery tour in SA soon so atleast some can meet Margie. She's a treasure.:) I was hoping to see your smiling face in College Station, Margie. Well, you'll just be smiling at somebody else that weekend.
Mary Lee

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

DH and I have been talking. Would you all forgive me if we came and I did not have anything to trade?

If things work out we would love to come.

Blessings,
Sandy ^8^

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

ILJesus....Absolutly not!! We would love to see your faces! Maggiemoo put that in the first post of the Trade thread. I hadn't planned on bringing any plants, but I took vacation this week and have more time to gather some items. I would not feel bad about not having trades, just think of all the DGers you will be able to meet and talk to! Besides we get to meet and chat with the Dave himself!!

Loudigger....Sorry you are under the weather, and bummed that I will miss getting to meet you. Take care of yourself.

Sheila_FW, Thank you so much for your kind words. Alot will depend on our Linky. He will be 16 in June and has been really sick.

I ould love to meet all of you.

Blessings,
Sandy ^8^

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Sandy, please don't stay away just because you have no plants to trade. I know I have a lot of plants that I'm bringing that haven't been spoken for and I'm sure other people are in the same boat. Go through the posts (also in my case atleast, check my diary). I have also some rooted rose cuttings that are not spoken for. I think there is a Buff Beauty and maybe Mdm Alfred. Please come, and don't forget the truck!LOL

Nothing to trade, ILJ. I suspect we will fix that. Hope you have lots of room for plants. Bring your truck and a tarp to protect the plants from wind.
Bob

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

I do have a truck and a tarp. I am getting excited.

Thanks,
Sandy ^8^

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8b)

Margie, so sorry that you won't be able to attend :(

It's really only a week away! Wow!

Everything is all set from our end, and we're excited to be meeting all of the members- old and new!

Ya'll don't forget that each person needs to bring drinks! We really don't want to run out of that! Lunch is being brought in from Buppy's BBQ (yum).

Wheeeeeeeee! :)

Trish

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Trish,

We do thank you so much for getting the lunch!!

Do you have enough door prizes yet?

I know by looking at another forum that the DG cups are going to be for sale, any other goodies awaiting us?

Also, look at my trade post (April 18th) and see what I can bring for the host and hostess in the way of plants or garden art.

Frisco, TX(Zone 8a)

Connie, It's a Jungle is a small speciality nursery in north Austin on Kramer Lane off Lamar Blvd. Dickie the guy that runs the place(at least when I lived there) has forgotten more about old roses than most people will know in their lifetime. They also have amazing orchids.nancy

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8b)

Sheila-

We have about 10 or so door prizes. Obviously, the more we have, the more we'll give away....

The mugs arrived today, and we'll also be bringing T-shirts with us.

Since we're absolutely starting with next to nothing, anything would certainly bring a smile to our face :) Starting over has been hard this time........missing my gardens :)

Trish

Missouri City, TX

Being new to the website, and having a roundup so close, I want to come.

What fees, etc. do I need to provide? How will I find, recognize some of the members I've sent messages to on the threads?

I don't have flowers, but could bring some herbs. Anyone want to dry some rosemary - mine is a big as a kitchen table - need to cut it back.

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8b)

Hey Bubba!

No fees at all :) Dave and I are excited to host this roundup ourseves and will be paying the cost of the building and lunch. Our treat :)

DG will have the building all to ourselves, and Marylyn_TX and roadrunner will be at the welcoming table handing out name tags to everyone (they are REALLY nice, too!) Much easier to figure out whos who that way! I'm sure they'll be doing DG names and real names.

Bring whatever you'd like, or nothing at all :) We're thrilled to meet another member!!

See ya there!
Trish

edited- sorry Marylyn!

Yes, Bubba, don't be shy! We are asking people to bring their own drinks, though, so be sure you have something to stay hydrated.

Only four more days!!!

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Are we supposed to bring something for supper, or do you figure everybody will be gone by then?

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm thinking that those of us who just can't say goodbye for the day (and I suspect that will be a good group of us) will still be snacking away, or may move on to a restaurant or something. I told my family in Brenham that I will be gone all day.

Crossville, TN

Marylyn_TX designed and made the name tags....I'm sure all the Texans will be happy with them...and she'll be helping out at the registrations table too...can't wait to meet all of you! Jo

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8b)

thanks Jo- looks like I'ma tad scatterbrained :)

I edited my post :)

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Several of us are planning on meeting at the Golden Coral for breakfast Sat morning between 8:30 and 9am., join us! Dave and Trish want us to wait until about 10 a.m. to unload at the park.

I for one will be looking to eat out that night because several of us are staying over in town Sat. night and may tour Martha's Bloomers Nursery on Sunday when they open at 11 am.
Then there is breakfast the next morning ....and lunch....! I love eating with friends almost as much as plants! LOL!

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Sheila, how often do your eat with plants? (Not eat plants, but with them, lol.)

I totally agree, I'm looking forward to breakfast, lunch, supper... but especially lots of good talk among good friends, old & new.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

Martha's bloomers has a cafe in it. Don't remember if they are open on sunday though. Nice place.

See if you can get back into the propagation greenhouse. You won't be sorry.

jorge

Dallas, TX

Oh Boy... there goes my CC....lol

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I have a brochure from MB so I know they are open on Sunday, just not sure how anxious I will be to go after an all day swap! LOL! Right now it sounds great.

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Sheila, you won't necessarilly have to buy plants at Martha's Bloomers to enjoy it. Like the Rose Emporium, it has some very nice display gardens (not as much as the Rose Emporium, but very much worth seeing.) I love getting ideas from other people's gardens for color/plant combos, etc. They have a really wonderful water feature that I would dearly love to replicate if I had the space.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I love to see others ideas, and I am looking forward to it. 4 days!!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I just adapted Roadrunner's design from the name tags she made for the Arizona RU, so she gets at least as much credit as I do. Unless of course you don't like them, in which case she gets ALL the bla- I mean credit! Ahem.. LOLOL

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Right, Mary. I'm doubtful that I will want to buy anything. Well, I shouldn't say that exactly. I'll say that I will have no business buying anything. But I am very interesting in studying their display gardens, especially the pond! And the cafe of course. Good food and good friends are a perfect combination.

Crossville, TN

Marylyn...you're my kind of gal!! see ya in the baggage area...hehehe Jo

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Trish, I am bring a door prize. Do you want it wrapped?

Thank you,

Sandy ^8^

Crossville, TN

Trish...I am bringing 3 little door prizes...and as Sandy asks...do you want them wrapped....or will they be open on a table and first person whos name is drawn will have their choice of prizes??

They are not expensive, just something I made. Jo

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8b)

Others have asked me the same thing- wrapped or not. I personally don't care either way. If you do wrap them, just let me know what is inside. I'm pretty sure some are wrapping, some aren't.

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

Mary Lee, if you there's a nursery tour in S. A., let me know. Maybe I could go.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Linda, I don't remember when they did it last year. I couldn't do that one, but if it happens again this year I sure hope to be there. There will no doubt be a thread started about it. Mary do you think we can do another SA nursery tour? I suppose we'll have to give everybody a month or so to recover from the RU. (I'll probably need much more than a month, but whatever.:))

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

'Teacup...thanks for the info on the Austin nursery! Y'all are going to have a greeeeat time!
PS. Is the "Dave" who is going to be there THE Dave of Dave's Garden????!!!

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Connie, yup, the one and only! :-)

Mary Lee, I've been thinking a LOT about the Nursery Dates. For me the problems are: 1) the price of gas to get to any of them, 2) trying to go before it's too hot, 3) the price of gas to get to any of them. Oh, did I mention the price of gas? :-) I have a lot of work that needs to be done on my car, about $1000 by the time it all gets done, so I'm really sticking closer to home right now....

But gee, I really want to get to SA again to see Hazel... and to Austin again, and to the Dallas area again...

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, Mary I understand the gas problem.:) It's a bigger problem for me than ever before because I drive an Olds 98 now. I always used to have compact cars. But when my last one wore out, this was the only car available at the right price. It's a wonderful car, but I still dream of having a camry or something. But if things get better...when things get better (think positive), we'll celebrate. Right?!
Mary Lee

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Absolutely! Where there's a will....

I'm thinking that most people will be reacting to the gas prices by taking their vacations closer to home. Perhaps the DG'ers in each area will get together for their own Nursery Dates and get to know the DG "locals" a little better. I spent last Saturday with Nery (vossner) and had the best time!

It doesn't help me get to see the my DG friends I'm missing from around the state, but I'm sure all of us could get together with our own area people.

I'm so very glad to have this RU to go to. Thanks Dave!!

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Teacup: Where is Dave from ? Is there a bio on the FOUNDER of this site somewhere that I can read? If not, he needs / deserves to "toot his own horn" a bit and let us know about him!
