Yes, Marylyn thanks from me too. This late at night there's no way I could've written anything that conherent.:) Actually probably not any other time either, but anyway.:) BTW the countdown has begun!

Texas Statewide Roundup - April 29th, 2006
silverfluter,
It has been a wonderful experience! LIke the people here on Dave's Garden, everyone is so nice and eager to help. My hubby used to hate gardening (enforced), but after he took the courses and actually understood why he was doing what (well, usually, anyway - it's not an exact science, is it?) he really started to enjoy it. I hope that someday you can be a face-to-face part of a Master Gardener group. You'll love it. Will I meet you in College Station?
Marylyn....you did a great job as Tour Guide!!!. I'm so excited about getting to come , and to meet all the nice people ...and to see the ones I have met before....HURRY UP APRIL! Jo
Oh, yes! Absolutely! I wouldn't miss this for anything! I have been looking forward to this since the last RU in Nov. I'm like a kid at Christmas. Gardening is so much more fun when you have other gardeners to talk to and learn from and in some cases comiserate with. I used to look at my front yard and think "yawn" or sometimes "yuk!" So much has changed because I'm learning what to plant and how to organize it. The plant trades have helped too, of course.

You're welcome, ceejaytown. I had fun looking it all up for you. :-) I'll see you in College Station!! :-)

Question, what is the most senic route to travel from Dallas to College Staton???
Or is there one. LOL
Hey, Guys!
I'm new here...from Austin. What exactly IS a Roundup? The only one I know is--I think--a poison for weeds...and I KNOW that's not what you mean. Seriously...what goes on there?
Welcome to Dave's Garden, Connie!
No, the weed killer is RoundUp, this is a Roundup (what a difference a capital letter can make, lol.) A Dave's Garden Roundup (RU) is an occasion to meet face-to-face those gardening buddies you've previously met only through your keyboard. Of course, some of us have already met now in other RU's or swaps or Nursery Dates, but we never get tired of seeing each other again and meeting more people, and getting to talk "dirt" and plants, etc.
We mostly visit, eat, and many of us bring plants to swap (not required.) It's more fun than you can imagine to put a face and a voice to someone's DG name, especially when you've been reading their posts or interacting with them on the forums. It's really neat when every time you read their posts afterward, you know that person! Someone last year aptly described it as magic. :-)
I sure hope you can come, you'll have a blast!
Connie, Yes it is a wonderful way to spend a day. There will probably also be a nursery tour planned to the Rose Emporium or Arbor Gate or something or all of the above. Although that may have to happen on Sunday. Once we gardeners get to talking it's hard to split us up sometimes - even to go to a nursery.:)

Oh Lordy, silverfluter. you got that right !!!
I can vouch for that!
Kip...I broke down and bought some rock at San Jacinto stone.
Rj
Anyone know how early the Emporium opens? I thought I picked up a brochure on it when I was in CS a couple months ago. I do have one on Martha's Bloomers in Navasota, just south of CS on Hwy 6. It is open until 6pm Sat. and 11-5pm Sunday. I don't think I want to stick around that late on Sunday having to work Monday morning, but may try to go down there late afternoon on Sat. Has anyone been there, is it worth the trip/time?
Yea Kip, I realized that was an understatement. They are fun to do sometimes.LOL
You go Shelia! Lets do it!
Its looks like I am going to be following you all day!lol
Sylvia
The gardens at Martha's Bloomers are really fantastic, but then so are the ones at the Rose Emporium. The Rose Emporium opens Sunday @ 11am too, but Martha's Bloomers will probably be closer, or at least easier to get to from College Station, since it's right on down Hwy 6.
Well, my vote would be for Martha's Bloomers probably mainly because I've never been there. Unexplored territory is exciting to me! But I might have to wait til Sun to do that. I have a feeling Sat is going to be spent talking about everything under the sun (and in the dirt).LOL The other RU's I've been to were very small compared to this one and we barely found time to go to the Native by Native nursery that was close by. It sounds like Martha's Bloomers is a big place, and I wouldn't want to miss anything there.:)
Martha's Bloomers? I love it! LOL
... it sounds as tho we are going to be up all night Girls ...so glad I got a room, maybe I should take off monday? lol
I am so excited that I sound downright silly. lol
Sylvia
Lol Sylvia, I know what you mean. I feel giddy (but maybe I'm just getting too much oxygen, hehe.)
Thanks for the help! I won't be able to attend the Roundup, but I can tell y'all have a great time! Have you ever done one here in Austin? My favorite nurseries/garden shops other than Home Depot are 1.Gardens 2. The Great Outdoors and 3. Barton Springs Nursery.
Hi Connie
Welcome to DG! You are going to love it here, we all do! sure wish you and DH could make it to the roundup. I thought we were going to be close to Austin? Maybe not ... I dont know where I am going ... I am just tagging along. lol
Sylvia
Well, does it sound like everybody will decend on Martha's bloomers at the same time on Sat or does somebody want to go on Sun? Maybe we should go in shifts?LOL How big is this place?
Take a look at their website. It looks quite impressive on the brochure. www.marthasbloomers.com
They have a tea room for those of you going on Sunday, you could have lunch there.
Martha's bloomers is awesome! But both Martha's and the Rose Emporium are about the same travel time from B/CS (20-30 min). Martha's has a tea room, with much greater than tea room portions!
The rose emporium's site is:
weareroses.com
Hmmmmmm. Martha's Bloomer's sounds delicious to me!
Wouldn't mind seeing Martha's bloomers myself, if I say so ...........;o)-
he he
Kipper2...you sound like a real "kepper" and I'm and I'm sure your partner (wife...husband...pet??!!) appreciates your punny humor. Just wanted to let you know it got a laugh from ME this morning! I'm taking a break from planting outside. This DG website is both informative AND so addictive! Thank God I'm old/out-of-shape enough that I have to take lots of 30-minute breaks from outdoor work so that I can have an EXCUSE to come in and rush over to my 'puter and feed my addiction! Thanks to all of you who post here...it's my new-found treasure!!! I can't wait to get to know you better so that I might host a Roundup here in Austin some day.
Connie
Connie, we are very happy to have you as a part of this garden addicted family.
This site is wonderful indeed, and we all benefit from it tremendously.
See you soon at the now famous R.U.
Josephine.
Connie, I feel like DG is a treasure too. It's a source of info, inspiration, humor, camaraderie (sp?). Since I work, my time on DG is very limited and DH always seems to get to the computer before I do, but I sure do look forward to my time in Dave's Garden. And going to an RU to meet the people I have been talking to is very exciting. I come home with plants that continue to remind me of the wonderful friends I've met here. When I walk through my yard, I get to see everybody again.:)

DITTO!
Sylvia
I have to admit, I'm very confused, with all the Sylvia's and Sheila's. Well atleast it seems to me there's more than one of each. One big reason I'm looking forward to this RU so much is so I can put faces with names and get all these people straight in my head. Come on, hurry up RU!
Marylee I am Sylvia in the City of Dallas. Who is the other Shelia?
Now you got me worried, I might have been talking to the wrong person? lol
Sylvia
I only know one Shelia in Ft Worth , , , at lest I think so...
There are two Sylvias - Sylvia in Dallas in a hard to get to with out getting a ticket great house and Sylvia in Red Oak near me.
Are there more?
Sorry Sylvia, I guess I'd better call you by your DG name, City Sylvia. Maybe I can keep you straight that way. And the other one is Sylvia Red Oak. And then Sheila Ft. Worth. OK, maybe I can do this. C'mon RU!LOL
Hi Mary Lee, I am the Sheila that Mitch, City_Sylvia (Dallas) and Sylviatexas (RedOak) know. I do know that there is another Sheila from the Houston area, but I don't know how active she is on the threads.
Oh and to keep me and Dallas Sylvia apart from the others, we do have photos posted on our ID pages, you can get our faces and names together with those maybe.
...and what a cute picture of Shelia I might add. Mitch are you ever going to get over that one incident? LOL
btw did you get the Cannas before or after you got the ticket? LOL
Sylvia
That was my first and only ticket! I dug the cannas right afterword...
For those who dont know I got very very lost and drove the wrong way down an one way down in that maze of roads!!
ROFLMBO...What maze of roads you are talking about Mitch? I have no idea of where you were. I live about three or four blocks from the 35E exit, I just dont understand how you could have gotten lost.
Sylvia
Sylvia I dont know where I was or how I got there but it sure left me scratching me head! I know by the time the cop got me turned around I was a good 10 blocks from you so I took a wrong turn somewhere...
Mitch....I'm glad you got turned around!
I guess I am going to need to forward my telephone calls while I am gone to the RU...surely HGTV will call and tell me that I won the Dream Home...I wouldn't want to miss that call at all!! LOL Jo
I would love to win that house too Jo, but I would probaly sell it because i could'nt afford the upkeep on a house like that or the taxes on it :(
Sylvia
