Coffee and...Part 42...! :-D

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Yawwwwwwn, I'm finally up and catching up on all the posts since ...uhhhh....oh yeah, pine resin! Glad the googone worked, I've used it for many other things than glue, and keep a bottle under the kitchen sink!

Welcome back Darius. Does your landlord ever give you good news? He's going to miss you as a tenant, considering that you have helped him with carpentry and maintenance in the past. I hope you find something soon, so you don't get stressed and worried.

Julie and Sarv, I'm hooked on those crime shows too, plus the true crime books by Ann Rice...(not to mention all the forensic shows on Court TV) I'm just finishing "Green River Running Red", do either of you want it when I'm done? I didn't watch CSI last night but I DVR'd it and will try to squeeze it in this morning. It's not an hour long show when you can whiz through the commercials...!

Maria, you sound better...that's so good to hear. Our leaves are not their usual blaze of color this year either...even the Sumac which is normally a bright red and the first to turn color in fall, is a brownish/burgundy hue and the maples are mostly a dull yellow. We have youngish red maples that we put in here, and they look fine, but then, they'd had regular water all summer from the well.

McCool, the little deli that I stopped at the other day is an 80 mile round trip from me now, unlike when my girls were growing up and we lived a short distance away. I was just surprised that Benji remembered me and was pleased to be recognized . I prefer, for the most part, to patronize the smaller greenhouses, and local cafes, and realize how difficult it is for small businesses to compete with the big box stores. But, sometimes, the lure of HD and Sam's is too much to ignore.

Julie, did you say the S word? I just want a hard frost so I can clean up the scruffy looking annuals and prune whatever needs it, but I don't want SNOW! I put in some bulbs yesterday, but there's still more to poke in under the mums. But not today. Today is lunch at the New House with my favorite DD and DIL.

Slow roasted a nice pork shoulder last night, made potato pancakes, sweet and sour red cabbage for a veggie and apple sauce on the side. .
It was so good, we could barely choke down our banana splits later. LOL Everything in moderation, eh, Sarv?

Robert, that pup is just so darn cute! Tink looks like she's having a great time with her. Shelties are so bright, she'll be potty trained in no time. What fun! Wish we could all come and watch them romp.

OK off to the shower and quick pickup through the house before I take the rest of the day off!!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

M5, red cabbage that brings back memories how my husband loved sweet/sour red cabbage and pork and Potato pancakes, it was not my favorite food but I always made it just for him. Do you make P.pancakes with raw potatoes? I do. I thought it was a good sedgment of CSI also followed Without a Trace was very good.

I thought I was getting out of DG but here I am again! Yes, Maria, I make them from grated raw potatos, onion and egg. The left over roast will be buried in sauerkraut, and slowcooked for another meal.

Gone again. I hope! LOL

Good Morning everyone.

I slept until about 5 minutes ago...amd if the phone hadn't been ringing I'd probably still be in bed. I think I'll go back now. See ya when I wake up.

Morning Goblins!

I had to stay off the puter yesterday, the laundry monster is winning. It has become a big enough problem that dh and I are considering getting a second washer and dryer to put in the garage. Which sucks royally. I have this really large laundry room that I have set up exactly the way I always dreamed of, but it is in the basement. And I have had more weeks lately where I can't get down the steps, so the laundry has really piled up. Dh and Nathan do help a little, but it is just not enough. I think I could easily spend $200 at a laundrymat and still have a few piles. Might consider doing that actually, be cheaper in the long run. Hmmm.....

Did you all catch the chaos that "developed" in the TEST forum? I think we are going to try for the all time biggest thread record, just as soon as we find out what that is, lol. As of right now we are at 597 posts.
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/550014/

Oh and Darius? Is your landlord going to be refunding your rent for the time with no heat? If heating costs are his reasons for jacking it up, I'd be wanting some money back for the inconvience. But I hate landlords, I'm still trying to get my deposit back from our last place, and we moved over a year ago! I did take him to small claims 6 mos ago, but he still hasn't paid up, grrrrrrr!

Ok, back into the fray.....

mg

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

MG, I have NO deposit, and even when I was away for almost 3 months last winter, the heat had to stay on for my plants.

I have known I needed to move for many months now but was hoping for "the best" move. Now, I plan to pack my stuff a little at a time, get everything boxed except a few clothes and toiletries (AND computer). I'll rent a storage unit and hire someone to move my stuff. Then I'll take the rest plus my cat and go to FL for Jan-April and stay with my sister. That is, assuming her house survives Hurricane Wilma.

My bigger problem is all my epies and christmas cactus, which obviously cannot go into storage. Guess I'll have to make a trip to FL just with plants sometime soon! Plus, my freezer and lots of home-canned goods that would freeze and break.

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Darius, I bet Molly would plant sit for you at her new place. Drop them off on the way down and pick them up on the way back?

Just a thought.

mg

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

mg, I expect to take my plants sooner than Molly will actually be living at her new place. Right now, she has someone plant-sitting some of her plants up in that area.

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Well dang it! "The best laid plans of mice and men..."

But then again, I'm still not doing laundry, lol.

mg

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Oh I love doing laundry and always plant sit for my neighbor- see we should all live closer!!

Oh, I've had a glorious day. Went and bought my TV stand thingy, visited the local meat market and loaded up on meat, picked up DH hat for him at Ace Hardware , went to Home Depot and got paint for my cellar way (been meaning to do that since last winter!), took myself out to Wendy's for a burger and read a couple of chapts in my car book, stopped at my MIL and had a little chat. Now I am home - ahhh satisfying day... Problem is once I get a going, I want to go forever - DH is not a goer tho, so I am home sitting with him. I do have some frozen oreos in the freezer that keep calling my name!!

It is suppose to turn freezing cold and rainy for the next three days. I really want to wash some windows- maybe I should do that...just maybe tho...

Put a beef roast in the crock pot, so having pulled beef for dinner...unless I get asked out!! Time to check the other forums

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

Oh Sarv yummy can I come over!???

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Sarv, your 'menu' makes me remember that I got some venison stew chunks from NCGardenAddict. Today, I plan to brown them and throw them in a crockpot with barley for a hearty stew. Too bad it's not colder, and that I don't have a place for a fire!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, you all have had a busy day, and I have too. Had a chiropractors appointment this morning, and was planning on coming home and doing laundry and cleaning the house. It was raining this morning, and DH called his mother and asked her if she needed anything from town as I was going. Well she had planned on getting out today herself as she has the portable oxygen now. Well she didn't want to get out, so I ended up doing her grocery shopping for her, going to the post office, the pharmacy, library and Dollar General. It took me 3 hours so, needless to say that put me way behind. I have vacuumed and straightened a little, and have done 2 loads of laundry.

I had previously promised to fix fish, hush puppies and slaw for neighbors, so still have to get that started.

Did someone say the S---- word? For tonight? Geez, I am not nearly ready for that yet. I still have tomatoes that are blooming, and dahlias, and all of my annuals. I don't want to look at lose drab and barren spaces during the winter. There is a lady who lives down the road from me, who sticks artificial flowers in her beds, and uses them all year long. Oh, she does put out poinsettias about Thanksgiving time. But it ususally goes from geraniums to the poinsettias. Looks so weird. I asked DH if he thought she believed they looked good? He said hey, they are easy to take care of!!

Well off to the kitchen to prep for supper. Will check in after everyone is gone, and the fish smell has dissipated!!

Well everyone, our offer was accepted, and we will be closing by 24th of November. So I have 14.4 acres of land and a new 2090 sq ft home.

carat- congrads on the new home - now we need pics!!

DH just made a huge plate of chips and cheese/salsa - no wonder I can't lose weight!!

Have sat on my bum all afternoon - not done a thing...chilly outside and inside. DH is home, but doesn't think we need a fire yet. Brr, time to get out the fleece stuff!

SIL puts out plastic flowers too - especially daffys and tulips - I thought they were real!

Yum - love fish...

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Really hard to take pictures 1200 miles away but I will try and hijack the ones from my realtor.

This I think is the front of the house.

Okay, I can't get the rest to transfer over. I have the entire thing on DVD. In fact I have 5 hours of DVD. We walked every inch of the whole thing video taping. I am going to try and get some stills from the DVD over the weekend.

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Beautiful day here today. In the high 80's and sunshine.

I did manage to get alot done today. Ran all over town getting the papers together to start on the loan. While sitting in bumper to bumper traffic for a hour all I could think was that in a year I will only have to deal with that if I go into Charlotte or some other large city.

Yummy fish, thanks for the dinner idea Sarv. I think we shall have salmon to celebrate the new house tonight. Don't worry, I will have a bottle of wine just for those of you who want to join in.

Better get to the market to for the salmon. Ahhh, better idea, call DH and have him pick it up on the way home. Gosh he comes in handy at times.

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Okay found another one. This is my best friends DH showing me the fork for the septic tank. The little shed in the back is the only other structure on the property. There is just as much distance behind me as in front of me to the next properties.

Congrats on the accepted offer Carat, now get ready for a blizzard of paperwork. Since we built 5 years ago, we've refinanced three or four times, and feel guilty for destroying an entire forest. The house looks nice, and it even has a nice deck! Looking forward to more pictures. We've done that picture taking business too, because after you've looked at several houses it becomes a blur.

Fish sound great for dinner. I'm so stuffed right now I can't even contemplate dinner....I made a fruit salad, and DD roasted a turkey breast and made big sub sandwiches, and we had cake for dessert. Good thing our DHs weren't there, at one point we were rolling on the floor laughing. Well, we were already on the floor because their furniture won't be moved until saturday, but we started one of those silly conversations that quickly degenerates in total foolishness.........My, I love those girls!!

edited to add: Motherearthnews.com has a great article on septic systems and how to manage them. They make me nervous too.

Sarv, I always travel with a book tucked away somewhere. Waiting in line, waiting at the DMV, the medical office, at the airport, the car parts store for DH , I've even bought a new one at the supermarket and read the first chapter before I get checked out....

mg, landlords are notorious for finding ways to weasel out of giving back your security deposit....they sure are quick at collecting it though. Put a flyer in the current resident's mail box and tell them not to pay their last month's rent, and tell them why. LOL

So as you can tell I either have woods and undergrowth or I have flat bare cleared land. We figure that about 7 acres are cleared already. The only other thing is a small quarter acre fenced off area that was for an animal to graze or a very large dog run.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Cheers to you, Casey and husband, how wonderful it is to have a dream come true, wish you the very best in all your endeavors for the new house. I just can see all the flowers and shrubs you will plant around the house
Went to the market today to get things needed like bread and fruit, jam and peanut butter, a piece of steak and a couple of lamb chops plus stuff for salads,
We have a Kohl's department store here, seems to be all over the east, bought some underware there plus a couple of night gowns all on sale, guess I 'll be all set for some time to come.
M5, know just how you feel about your girls, exactly how I feel about mine, is it not wonderful?
Defoe, am not EVER ready for the S... word, especially since the last one!
Maria

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Aria, be sure to check out everything you buy from Kohl's. They have some really good deals but I have had sweaters that when they were assembled they weren't serged. I bought a t shirt for my son that it literally fell apart into about 5 pieces in the wash and he never even wore it. On the same note I bought a suit that sold there for 100.00 and at Dillard's the same suit, same brand was 450.00. Perfect condition.

Thanks for the wishes with the new home. I am so excited. I am driving myself crazy. Hubby and I haven't told my best friend and her husband who is my DH's best friend that we placed the first offer nevermind that we have been countering back and forth for almost two weeks now and actually have a sealed contract now. The property is directly across the street from hers. My DH is due to visit there before Thanksgiving and we are trying to set up all the paper signing while he is there. Don't know how long I am going to be able to keep this from her. I about blurt it out everytime I talk to her, which is everyday. DH want to be tell them he want to look at the house again, and then have the key when they get up to the door.
Only time will tell

Starkville, MS

caret - sounds like PARTY TIME coming up when you tell them!! What fun you will have.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Thanks for the advice, Casey, but to tell the truth I never bought anything of importance at Kohl's, I usually go to small shops for nice clothes, that way I don't see myself coming and going. just hate to see racks of one and the same thing in all sizes. I also order from catalogs, like LL. Bean for the type of clothes I wear for country living. Last April I left quite a bit of money in Naples, Florida for the summer and the same in Vienna while there for over a month, what fun I had
Oh, my gosh, how can you keep a secret that long, but just think how much exitement there will be when they find out!
Maria

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Well as I said before, only time will tell. I am a horrible liar, and its a good thing I don't have to see her face to face cause it would never work. She has already asked me a couple times what is wrong, it is so hard. She knows everything about me.

I just received a new magazine in the mail. GardenGate. Never heard of it before. Anyone???

Playa-Cofi has me in torment over there with his story. Going to have to pull out a few of my own mofia friends to handcuff him to that keyboard.

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

Carat,

Congratulations on the new house! Surprising your friends will be fun. Hopefully, you won't have to wait much longer. Have the realtors put a "sold" sign on your property?

I received a copy of Garden Gate in the mail a few months ago. I loved it and subscribed right away.

Carat pull out the big guns I cannot wait for the end of this story or at least to get out of that room.

Actually the property is vacant and the seller didn't want to advertise to the local teens so no sign was ever put up. I called today to see about having a lanscaping company go over and mow once a month. They said they will have to get back to me with a price. Now that is kind of scary. Any one in the york county area, if you know what the going rate is please pipe in. I just don't want to have the weeds up to my neck when I go there, and it just looks wrong when it's not taken care of.

Jody, was just thinking that I might have to get this one too. I must get 5 different gardening magazines. Which is a lot for me.

Casey, have you done a DG subscriber search to see if there are any in the area?

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

UUMMMMM, looking sheepishly at the ground. nooooo, I don't know how.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Go to your DG home page, click on the memberlist tab at the top... then on SC on the map when it loads. Then click to see subscribers only...

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Okay, do mean any DGers in the area or landscaping companies???

I see a few that could live within a 15 minute or so drive.

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Congrats Carat! How exciting!

Do we get to help you name your place? I've had lots of experience lately, lol! (Been trying to find the perfect name for Badseed's new farm and nursery, lol)

PC is driving me crazy too!

mg

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

DG members, who could steer you right (along with your friend).

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)
