Coffee and...Part 36...! :-D

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

McCool, the strange thing about my inlaws, there are 4 boys and 5 girls, and DMIL has already been so stubborn that she has pi__ed off everyone so they no longer offer to help!! But this time next week I may be out and someone else selected as caregiver!!

Kooger, best get the colonoscopy done, I just received a letter from my internist saying it was time for me to have one. No I haven't called and made the appointment, but will within a few days. I hate it because this year I have had so many things to deal with!! Getting to feel like the hypocondriac??? Had neck problems, went to Chiropractor, had arm pain, went to Orthopaedic Specialist, (Carpel Tunnel), and just in the last week having trouble with thumb, hurting and when bent at the first joint, will not straighten out. And they say the GOLDEN YEARS are the best. (I'm 58) With the slippery slope I have been on, almost afraid to wake up in the morning to see which part has decided overnight not to work!! Since Bal has been having knee problems, don't want to have a knee jerk recation to anything, don't need the legs to go too!!

Aria, chin up girl, I too deal with the Blackness. Seems it just appears, stays for awhile, and all is back to normal. Sometimes can't really say if there is anything that triggers these "spells". I am on Effexor, and have been more stable on it than any other anti-depressant.

Joyous, glad Julie convinced you to come on in. I enjoy your posts.

I too was taught to sew on a treadle sewing machine. Don't know what DM did with it, would love to have it now. She threw away some great antique pieces. Had a marble topped wash stand that I would love to have now. Back then, to her she wanted new and out with the old. Probably threw away a small fortune!!

Went to chat tonight, didn't get to stay long as DGD is here and wanted something. Did the debauchery break out? What I saw was pretty tame.

Well, it's been awhile since I left any goodies on the counter, there will be Apple Brown Betty on the counter in the morning. If you get there before I do, save some for me. Also, home-made apple butter, with biscuits and butter, yum, yum.

Well night all, going to try to lay this decrepit body down.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Good Morning- am I the first up? What a bunch of sleepy heads.

Tons of people in chat last night-= even Bal joined us.

Hey, get that colonoscopy - it isn't bad at all. And remember I am the weinie girl. I had it done and they found two polyps and removed them - precancer. I have to do it every 5 yrs now. Honestly, it isn't bad. I'm hoping they will find a way to do it like an x ray!!

Last day for warm weather here - mid 80's. I heard snow out west already...too soon I think!

Aria- I too have that black hole. I fact I remember one summer that I spent most of the time in it. Sat in my rocker and thought 'if this is life, I want out' Hated everything and everybody. Wanted to just run away. I don't know how I made it thru it - but I've not been that deep since. From my experience it seems that most everyone has major down times.

DH took my car for tire repairs today so I am without wheels - man do I hate that feeling!! I do have his old clunker truck, but the brakes are so bad, that I won't drive it. And I wanted to go shopping too...grrr.

Went to DGS's soccer game. New DIL was sniping at DS all night. Had to bite my tongue. He could do nothing right...I know he is not perfect, but we were in public for heavens sakes!!

Defo -I hear ya. My MIL has 9 children - and who does she call- ME!! I try help out as much as I can, but my mom is going down the tubes and I need to be with her first. DH won't have a thing to do with his mom- bad blood. I go from feeling like I detest her to feeling so sorry for her. Sad situation for all.

I've never had a treadle machine, but have been a sewer from way back. I made all my maternity clothes (didn't buy a one...) and all the kids clothes - even snow suits. Anyone remember 'stretch n sew'? I still have those patterns!! Last year made some new drapes for the family room - not hard... Wish I had one of those serger machines tho.

Well, time for a cuppa joe...todays my day off from exercising - may just spend it rocking in my chair!!

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

KOOGER>>>>>>>A BIKE>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>I WANT ONE>>>>>>>>

Oh that sounds just about right...I hope that you have driven before, if not, 675 is a lotta GO.....

I miss mine and threatening to get another...DD says she will have me committed. What 65 to old to go Back to bikin' ? Where's our forum on this one?

have a nice day...off and about till later. Don't say to much 'cause it takes so long to catch up..lol

Now you can talk about me.....

Hap

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

I've been up for awhile, but I was reading the Christmas exchange thread. I was surprised there wasn't an update for this thread when I came to DG! There was so much "talking" going the last few days I couldn't even read all the posts!

Sarv, weather will be about the same here this week; in the high 80's today and possible fr__t tomorrow! (I'm gonna get smacked for that word!) Today I'll be making room for tenders to be brought inside - just in case.

I don't know who is having the colonoscopy done, but be sure to talk with you doctor about anesthesia. I had one done a few years ago, and was fine (don't remember what they gave me), but my sister's didn't have anesthesia and it was very painful for them. Just know what's going on before you get there. Good luck!

Have a good day everyone!

Jody

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Good Morning, Sarv, just came in from a short walk, it helps to aliviate the pain in my back, it is always painful when Iget up.
That is just how I feel when I am in that miserable hole,so you know how I feel at times, but it is getting less and lass as time goes by.
I also sewed for myself and my daughters, did not for the boys. I learned how to sew starting in the first grade, never went to school with boys , only girls. We were also taught knitting, crocheing, and embroidery. My first mittens were made in the second grade than socks. Later we sewed blouses, aprons with embroideries. We also had cooking lessons at an very early age, all that before I was 14 years old, we went to school from 8 to 5 with an our for lunch at home and Saturdays from 8 to 12, Vacations took place a week for Christmas and July and August in the summer. Don't know if this is still the schedule in Vienna, After 14 years old is high school, still only girls but none of the domestic lessons, lol
Going to the Chiropractor later, till then I am going to be lazy, LOL

Hi Magoobu, I've seen you peeking at kitty pics....welcome to coffee, aren't we a chatty group? I posted yesterday to say welcome, but it disappeared into cyberspace....which was about par for the day. The sun is coming up and I'm hoping whatever planets were at odds yesterday have moved on and there won't be any major disasters today!

Test went well, Betsy, hope the next ones are as easy and have good results. I had IBS for years until I divorced my first husband, and then it went away. I dubbed it Irritable B#*&@^$ Syndrome. Your situation sounds managable, and that is very good news.

Yes, it sounds pricey for the septic fix, but even though you can purchase a pump for a reasonable amount of money, someone still has to install it, down in the tank, ugh...and the people who do that nasty job want to sell you their pump and won't install some other mfgr's pump so you are between a rock and a hard place. And you're not in a position to negotiate. At any rate, we are now flushable, and I can catch up on laundry.

Glad to see you back Carol! Sounds like you had a great time! It is really hard to catch up, isn't it? I usually check in a couple times a day even if I don't post, just so I don't spend an hour reading and forget who said what! Did you see the pic of Molly's van? Looks like a major plant heist!!

The black walnut tree has produced a bumper crop of nuts this year. I just looked up how to use the nuts....hoo boy!! Long process, first you have to take off the outer shell, then dry them for a couple of weeks, then soak them in hot water for 24 hours, then crack them open (probably with a sledge hammer!) so my two big cat litter buckets (the 32 lb. kind) would probably yield about a pound of walnuts.......think I'll get mine at the super market! And they stain everything they touch....

I've read almost all of those J.D.Robb "death" mysteries. You know that those are written by Nora Roberts, don't you? I haven't had the latest one, but I'll get to it, I'm sure. I love mysteries. Never met a book I didn't like. I'm stocking up now for winter....if I don't have a good supply of books on hand, I get edgy. DIL is the same way. Down to two unread books, time to go hunting!!

DH is taking the day off, using up his vacation days because he can't carry them over to next year, so I think we'll be out in the dirt today. Catch up with you later. Have a super day!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Good morning folks, fixing breakfast for DH and DGD. I usually don't eat, but may today. I have bacon, biscuits and gravy and sliced tomatoes. Sounds good. Don't have much planned today, but the phone is sure to ring just about any time, with somebody planning my agenda. May go out and be unavailable for awhile. Have some cleanup still left to do, so that's the plan.

Will check in later.

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

The old lurker joining in here!

betsybug wrote about her endoscopy: "They used a sedative that's short acting - within 10 minutes of not having it in my system - I was totally alert and able to walk out on my own!"

I had the same type of anesthesia when I had my colonoscopy, and it was smooth sailing. In fact, it was quite a trip! *grin* They kept me for about an hour afterwards just to make sure I was "straight", but it was a totally painless procedure.

Kooger, if your doctor wants you to have a colonoscopy...run, do not walk to the first appointment you can get. If you sit down and really think about the possible consequences of ignoring his advice I'm sure you will make the right decision. Even though my late DH eventually followed through on all the doctor's advice, he got a late start. Early dectection is the key.

While I posted in reply to Sarv, a few of you got ahead of me, so good morning to all of you, I am not a typist, have to look down while doing it, making tons of mistakes at that plus being very slow, sorry!
Maria

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Aria- don't worry= we all do the best we can - heck no one is perfect - especially here!! Make as many typo's as you want- we can read between the lines!

Well gals, guess what - CAR IS HOME!! Nail in one tire and corrosion on the rim of the other. All fixed, gassed up and ready to roll!! DH can be a gem sometimes....

You will never guess what I am doing???? Give up?? Eating a bowl of ice cream at 9:30am. Decided to have tonights treat early... Caught a sight of my middle as I was walking thru the house and it is not a pretty sight! When these 4 gallons are gone, I'm not going to buy any more. We both just cannot leave it alone.

Gotta go fluff the hair and think about what I want to do today...

If anyone wants a scoop of ice cream, it's in the freezer!!

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7b)

Holy crackey! there's a lot of chatter to catch up on. But fun, fun, fun anyway. Don't even know where to start. Magoobu, welcome to the Kaffee Klatch. I just joined recently myself and EVERYONE here has been so nice and kind! You're going to love it! We are an eclectic group and that's what makes us so chatty :-)

BB- I'm glad your exam went so smoothly. I wonder if the anesthesiologist used *Versed*. It's a wonderful drug, that is if you have good renal function, and makes life so much easier and less anxious with conscious sedation. The amnesic quality is what's really nice! My hat's off to the inventor of the stuff....bugger anyway, if I'd invented it, I'd be RETIRED now!

I love reading about all the folks with Mum's who sewed. My Mum did too, made most of our clothes when we were younger. I remember standing on a chair in the dining room while she *fitted the pattern* to me or had to *make adjustments* before she put on the finishing touches. Mummy learned to sew on a treadle machine in the orphanage and used to make most everything, curtains, bed spreads, upholstery, you name it.

I've been making *chemo cuddlers*. It started out as something I made for the chap next door who has Pancreatic CA and is undergoing treatments weekly in Seattle. He gets so cold during the chemo, so I made him a comforter out of a flat bed sheet and some fleecy material. I wanted Bob to have something to give him a smile, so I bought *Nemo* fleece for the inside of the comforter and used a complimentary blue sheet for the outside. (Bob's wife started calling them chemo cuddlers). The first time he took it with him for chemo, the Nurse Manager at Virginia Mason Hospital called me and asked if I could make more. She sent me a *quilt journal* and now I make them, take a picture of the comforter and when it's given to someone, they take a picture and send it to me with a little information about the patient who receives the comforter. I've gotten the nicest cards and calls from the recipients.

defoecat- I read your post and have great empathy for you when it comes to being the *care giver* in the family. There's always one in every family that is either the one deemed the caregiver or one that just seems to step into that place. I know, I'm the caregiver in my family. I don't know so much that I'm the one because of my chosen profession or is it just my nature or a little of both? Not quite sure, but I do know your frustration and I'm sure at times anger with the others who shirk their responsibilities and allow you to take the burden. Just be assured, your burdens are noticed and in the end, you'll have made someone else's life better because you cared! Many blessings on you dear.

Guess it's time to make a pot of tea. I haven't had me morning cuppa yet and I need to clear the fog! Hugs to you all :-)

Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

kooger, I'm sure it's a million to one odds, but your treadle machine wouldn't happen to be a Davis, would it? I've been going nuts trying to find some bobbins for mine. I only have one that fits right and it's a pain to have to keep changing the thread on it every time I want to sew something of a different color. The bobbin I have looks kind of like a little barbell (?sp) and is 36mm long from tip to tip. If you have any of these and end up not using the machine for sewing, could I please buy the bobbins from you?

Thumbnail by McCool
Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

Here's a pic of the bobbin itself. I took these to try to order some on-line, but the supplier couldn't help me with these.

TO BabsERNurse........making a deep bow and CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! for the "Chemo Cuddlers"!!!

Chemo therapy is a hard road to go, and having somthing warm and cuddlly from a careing and loving heart can make such a difference.

(((hugs)))
Pati

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

DH decided to go to work anyway, maybe because the temps are going to be mid 80s again today....So I'm back to comment about sewing machines! I have never seen a Davis....the old old Singers and Whites used to use a long bobbin in a shuttle but I haven't seen one in years, plus I think they were sized differently than the one you showed in the pic. Have you tried Ebay? There's all kinds of odd things there!

I too, learned on a treadle machine. My stepmom made all my dresses, sewed curtains, aprons, pillow slips, perfect seams, hems. I remember standing on a chair to have the hems pinned up, and how fidgity I was because it seemed to take so long. I had a wrought iron base that I used for a plant stand, long ago, but in one of my many moves it must have been sold or left behind. Wish I had it now! I should probably look in some of the antique/junk stores and see if I could find one.

I'm in the midst of making a cover for the hassock that goes with my big fat reading chair. Found ultrasuede that's a close match, now I just have to cut and sew....wasn't about to do it yesterday! I think I can miter the corners to make a fit for the top, and then staple the fabric around the bottom part. The top is like a cushion, and has about four inches of wiggle room all the way around, although it is attached. Gives me some options for attaching the bottom. Then there are the feet, which are fabric covered, so I need to do something with them, maybe spray paint them? LOL

better get a move on....if you GOBs keep posting I'll never get away from this "puter.!

Wow good morning all just trying to catch up had an early meeting at my son's school today and just getting back. Have a playdate and Room Mom meeting at my house today so will be popping in and out.
What a great day to see all of you here ! :-)
Having coffee now and gearing up for the rest of the day

Babs, don't know that I am a designated care giver, but DMIL is so stubborn and contrary that she has made everybody mad more than once. I just go in and do whatever it is that's needed, and she says very little to me! DH is favorite son, so maybe she thinks it would make him mad if she said anything to me!! Anyway when I checked on her a little while ago, she is feeling much better today. Was able to sleep without the oxygen last night, but put it on when she got up. When she moves around it makes it so much easier to breathe. Called and to get her a portable unit so that she can begin to get out some. She is going stir crazy.

Well, have been out digging bulbs, dug up geraniums, and put them in storage for the winter. Clean DGD swimming pool for the end of the season, collected some seeds to save, and am trying to dig out a blue rug juniper where I plan to put another flower bed. So warm out had to come in for a cool refreshing beverage. Set out a turtle head cleome, and hardy geranium also. Got them in plant trades at the Round Up.

So back out to finish some chores before it gets really hot.

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Mornin Goblins, heh heh heh!

KOOGER~~If Katie Couric from the Today Show can get scoped on national tv and talk the entire time, get your butt (pun intended) to the doc and have drugs for yours! I'll even send you some JD Robb books if you do! I'm hooked on her both as Robb and as Roberts.

Okus~~Good to have you back. Where are your trip details and pics? Huh? Huh?

D-cat~~chat debauchery? Not last night, I was bored sillier half the time. And also fairly irritated, but I may have taken *her* too seriously. I know the MIL story too, mine gives me headaches so I've been distancing myself. Let the ones that talked her out of selling her house and moving into an assisted apartment deal with it. It won't be long, they can't deal with what I had to. they are more worried about money they will never see. Yum Apple Brown Betty! I haven't had that for years, may we have the recipie? And I'll be sure to tell Wanda hi.

Sarv~~Glad you got your wheels back. I used to be a tire sales manager for a major tire co, I've fixed way more than my share of flats. My ex-boss still gets old farmers wanting to know "where is that little gal that knows so much about tires?"

Happy~~I wanted to be a biker momma soo bad, but even a little Rebel was too tall for me. the shop said they couldn't lower it enough for me to be safe on it. I rode a street legal dirt bike up to moving to Germany and having kids. Dh keeps teasing me, he says he's gonna get me a Vespa and I'll trick it out!

Jasmerr~~Did you say the F word?? I'm gonna get the soap! The poor plants on my deck have been dancing the deck/garage tango off and on for the last 2 weeks, but it looks like they go in tonight and stay there for a while.

Aria~~My school required girls and boys to take at least one semester of Home Ec. I suffered thru it and then switched to shop class. I was the first girl in my school to ever sign up for it, can you believe? They had to rewrite some of the rules, mostly because of my hair, it was down to my butt. I always had it in a braid for shop tho. Now I wish I could have taken Home Ec and Shop. My mom tried to teach me, but mostly I have learned on my own. I still have a heck of a time reading patterns, but the girls at the fabric shop have been really helpful.

M5~~I've harvested walnuts for years. Last year I started too, looked around and decided it just wasn't worth it anymore. Too dang much work, and they are cheap enough at the store to make up for it. Hickory nuts, now those I will do if I can find some. I lost my source to a tornado. If you like mystery books..I love Tammi Hoag, Michael Palmer, David Baldacci and James Patterson. Have you read any of them?

Pati~~Did you enjoy your 'scope a little too much? Rofl. Have you been keeping your peepers on Tammy? I really hope she is the last one.

Babs~~Have you ever made Fleece Tied Blankets? No sewing involved! But to tell the truth, I can whip up a sewed one faster. It was very nice of you to make the "chemo cuddler" for your friend, and I love the Nemo print!

McCool~~Wow that is pretty! I'll keep an eye out for those bobbins, I go to lots of places that they might show up in.

Magoobu~~You survived your first DG chat, lol. What did you think? It was pretty tame compared to some....

Later Goblins!

Babs, love the cuddlers! What a wonderful thing you do!!!

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

MG...That is exactly what I had to do. I am all of 5' and the only bike at the time, 35 years ago, was a 90cc Suzuki, dirt bike. It went 55 down hill with the wind at my back, if you get the drift. My boys used it out in the fields and then I went off on my merry way. I loved it. I still have my leather-fringed deerskin jacket...I am considering being burried in it....LOL Just kidding, I'm a chef remember, so I plan the high heat cooking method....lol

Pati, good to see you here. Where have you been?

Just had coffee with Ipakosh from the Bahamas... she said that she was coming in for errands and we met at the Hard Rock Cafe. What a nice young girl.....She has so much energy she made me tired just listening to all that she does. wow.....Of course, if I could remember that long ago, I would probably remember that I was full of fire and brimstone to at her age.

Off to see the wizard, or whatever. I think it's too late to start any big projects, so .....

I think I mentioned painting my kitchen cupboards, or at least starting. Well, DH walks into the kitchen today and says, "Did you run out of paint?" His safe way of saying, "How come the cupboards aren't finished?" He knows I would have said, "Because you haven't helped me finish!" I did accomplish what I wanted to the weekend I started painting, but have been too busy to finish. I'm hoping I can finish tomorrow and Friday.

MG, no guys with long hair in shop?

Kooger - not to scare you (well...maybe a little, but with good intention), but my sister died from colon cancer seven years ago when she was only 48 years old. She died less than two months after the cancer was found. She had been ill for some time, but didn't go to the doctor because she couldn't afford health insurance. What we paid for her funeral equaled several months of health insurance premiums. Colon cancer, to my understanding, is one of the most successfully treated cancers when detected early. Since then, my sisters and I need to have a colonscopy every few years. Last year one sister had three pre-cancerous polyps removed. Go now...don't wait!

Babs - love the "chemo cuddlers!" Has everyone been keeping up with Imelling, cmalon, and hemlady in Prayer Requests forum? Great news this week!

MG, I'm waaaay ahead of you on TS Tammy! Check it out in the weather Forum. Looks like some of our GA DG'ers will get lots of rain, and maybe Darius will get a little too!

Hap, you know I'm usually lurking around DG, but lately I've done my lurking in doctor's offices. Just many, many tests. You might say these are just auditions for the main event on 11/9..................and I'm the STAR! LOL

I follow all your weather updates feel I know you already how is your DD doing?

Anne

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Good Morning (I love the 'GOBlins! Wish I'd thought of it! LOL)

There is no way I'm even going to try answering or making comments to you 'jabberboxes' today. ;-) WAAAAAYYYY too much to finish up before the F-R-O-S-T (If I spell it, maybe it *won't* happen!) gets here tonight. I can't believe we actually have the AC on today...and tonight we'll be forced to turn on the heat! Geez!

I got my geranium cuttings taken, canna seed gathered, ALL umpteen assorted jars of cuttings brought in from the garden shed and put on the light stands in the basement, got my all my EE's and Caladiums hung in mesh bags to dry...only three more large houseplants to get indoors and a few pictures to take for location planning reference this winter...then I can say that the *outside* gardening season is officially over. Weeeel, not exactly. There are still cannas, glad, and dahlias to dig after the frost kills the foliage but that can wait for several days to finish off.

Chemo Cuddlers...SUPER fine! ....scopy (YUCK!) been there done that "UP" and "DOWN" on the same visit (TG for *not* having to be awake through either of them!) ....Sewing? You BETCHA!! I learned on old treadle that had those long bobbins, then Mama bought me a 'newer' Singer treadle...took sewing classes in school from 7th to 9th grade. Made the 'Jackie Kennedy' style suit (Turquoise) for my wedding, draperies, upholstery, cape cod curtails, quilts, jeans for my DH and very DS's (when we were too POOR to buy them)...and would you believe that they were *happy* to have them! Sewing was the love of my life until I finally retired and was able to jump into the deep end with my gardening. (Recently, within the last 10 years, I got involved with the embroidery sewing machines and even wrote one of the first books on how to digitize home embroidery designs - Ever hear of 'JazzerStitches'? That was ME! :-D)

I'm happy to hear that Molly is making progress on her move...that Darius has sold her chairs...that Robert is looking forward to his very special new roommate...that Hap wasn't too upset when the last thread got too long to load...

Sorry to hear that we've friends here who are in pain with various parts of their bodies...that Sarv has plans to eat 4 gallons of ice cream (LOL)...that someone else here is pretty much like me and doesn't care too much for ice cream (I'd rather have noodles, bread, potatoes, deep fried crunchy stuff, dumplings...CARBS!!! YUM!)...and I'm sorry I've forgotten anything else that I should have remembered.

Gee...for someone who wasn't going to respond, I think I did it anyway. Can you imagine what I'll be like when I have time to TALK!?!? LOL

Later,
~julie~

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Julie, pasta and bread dipped in Olive oil, and of course a nice salad with it nothing like it Yum
So much going onhere cannot keep up
Maria

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Pati, I'm missing the story here, can you fill me in? Oh and I checked the weather forum, shoo shoo!

Some of the guys had longer hair, but with theirs in a ponytail it wasn't a safety issue. Mine was, even in a braid it was past the middle of my back. By the time I graduated, I could sit on my hair, and I have really thick hair and way more than a person needs.

I'm going to go lay down on the couch for a while and read a new book I picked up yesterday. It's called "Big Stone Gap" by Adriana Trigiani. It's set in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia in the late 70's. Anyway, it looks good and my tailbone is aching again.

Catch ya later,

mg

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

MG...when I was a biker chick, I had hair down to my knees.............then I shaved....LOL just kidding. It was not facial hair.....hehehe

I also kept it in a braid when I was on the bike. In one weak moment, I decided that I wanted the "Wind to Blow Thru My Hair".....all went well for that 10 min ride and then it too me almost 2 hours to comb out the tangles. Never did that again...

Check Tammy.....looks like Darius is going to get some sprinkles.... We have had rain off and on for 4 days, sometimes very hard, and I am over it. Just wish it would go somewhere.....anywhere in the Atlantic...

See ya later..Have to do Something this aft....

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

MG, am I the one that "irritated you in the chat room? If so, I was just razzing and jazzing you. But if I have upset you, I AM SO SO SORRY! Please accept my apologies and I will never raz you again here on DG. I feel so bad now so guess I will just shut up and watch in the chat room from now on.

Molly, Your van looks so full and am glad that you are taking as much plants as you can. You will be happy when they are all in their new home. Hope you get it all settle up north soon.

Bal, I am very interested in you and your new possible dog for the deaf. Reason is because I am hard-of-hearing from birth and wear a hearing aid all my life. Went to public school and college and graduated from both fine. I have seen a dog for the deaf a few years ago with our SHHH (Self Help for Hard of Hearing) group (which has disbanded unfortuanately) and he was so cool. I think that is so good of you to do this training with the dog.

Julie, are you really buckling down for winter already? I can't believe it. Tho here in Oregon, it is getting much colder and wet than normal and am not too keen on such an early fall.

MG, I know you don't want to hear from me anymore, but wanted to say I love the author and books you mention to read.

To the rest of all of you, my, you are so busy that I can't keep up with you all. But good job.

NO DAISY NOOOO!

My run in was before you got there, it started in chat and then continued thru email. I was a bit touchy after that, but you did not offend/irritate/tick me off in any way! That was why I was so blunt in asking if there was a problem, I was afraid *she* had called in the troops to harrass me. It's a long story, and not the first run in with *her*, best thing is she is too cheap to pay for a full membership here, so I can ignore it for the most part. I've already talked with mystic and filled her in.

I love friendly razzing, and I dish it out just as well as I take it so don't EVER think that again!

OK???

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Ok, mg
I was thinking that I had razzed you too much so I need to back off. I hate to offend anyone here. It is so hard when you can't see people's face, body expressions, voice, etc. to know really how people are taking your comments.
Am sorry that someone is giving you a bad time. Not the way to be here on DG at all.

UGH!!! MIL (not "D" either!) Just called to find out why WE hadn't called her. (Long story and most of you already KNOW the story or at least have a good idea of how it goes. LOL)

Carol (DR) yep! We're batten down the hatches...and seriously getting ready for winter...probably be starting up the Hasha wood stove in a few weeks. To be honest, I'm looking forward to some 'me' time indoors for a change.

Maria...when do we eat? (Oh man, that meal sounds like heaven to me!) :-D

I handed the phone to DH (hehehehe) He's off the phone...gotta go!

Carol, there are a lot of places on the internet dealing with hearing dogs. Goldenears is the one I am applying to now.
Delta society.com has a lot of information. Dogsforthedeaf.org is in Central Point, OR. I haven't looked into them yet, but they are in the NW. Generally the organizations pict suitable mixed breeds from animal shelters to train as they have shown that mixed breeds inherit different traits from the different parentage rather than instinctive behavior of herding, hunting, retrieving, tracking etc. Training is very lengthy and expensive as you can imagine. I hope to hear back sometime this month if there is a possibility of getting some help in training Tinkerbelle to help me by responding to telephone, doorbell, smoke alarm and similar sounds outside of my hearing range. It may not come to pass, but is worth investigating.

As to the "new girl", I haven't heard from the breeder yet about when and where to pick her up. The car goes in for new tires today in preparation for the 1,100 mile journey (half there, half back). Tinker will go with us too and get to meet a whole bunch of other kids.

But now, after being rested from chopping down the big clump of Zebra Grass, (Miscanthus sinensus zebrinus) and cleaning up a small part of the yard, it is time for a bite of lunch and a trip to the tire store. Everyone have a sooper dooper day.

Julie- you expecting snow in your area?? Say it aint' so!!! They keep saying 'frost in the low areas' on Fri, Sat and Sun, but the temps they show are in the mid 30's. I haven' taken cuttings of any geraniums or dug up any of my brugs. Sigh - and I am going out of town for three days. DH wouldn't even touch my flowers, so they may not make it...

Gimme the 2x4 - DH is driving me crazy. Sometime he can be such a pain in the arse. Maybe there's a storm coming our way - I think a storm is brewing on THIS homefront! He just left to get gas for the tractors - wants ME to mow. I will do a tad- but not the whole 2 acres!! I told him I wanted more in flower beds - that way there's not as much grass to mow. Of course he said no! Stopped at my local home depot and they had all their perennials half off. I looked and drooled, but didn't get any. I still have 4 that I got in July to get in the gound. Waiting for this hot spell to leave.

On the way home I stopped at Wendys and got a frosty with sprinkles. Man, I am being SOO bad. Must be getting my winter fat already...

got bamboose - DH just stuck his head in the door and said "Are Ya coming?""

What's your answer. Sarv......

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Oh Sarv! NO *snow* yet!! TG...but I talked to my sister in North Dakota last night and they're expecting something in the way of 6-8" sometime today or tonight. (She's NOT looking forward to it, either.) Maybe if you throw a sheet over those brugs you can save them until you get back.

Robert I'd give almost anything to be able to grow the Zebra Grass here in WI. I've got several ornamental grasses just beginning in my beds and can't wait until they are large enough to really clump up and wave in the wind. (I'm thinking of purposely allowing it to grow OUT past the boundaries and let it take over the 'lawn'. hehehe

Whew! (mg & Carol) I'm sure glad we aren't going to get ourselves invloved in bad feelings. I surely do agree that it's so difficult to read 'expressions' when we can't see the faces we are talking to.

DH just told me it's 87° here right now. GOOD GR-EEEF!!! And we're worried about freezing temps before morning. There's going to be a lot of bad colds to be had after *this* weather change...that's for sure.

Guess I'd better go stick the latest cuttings into some pots. (I *swore* I wasn't going to DO this again this year! So much for 'resolutions'. hehehe)

Isn't it funny when you are so caught up in some event in your life, you just ASSUME that everybody knows about it? Perhaps it's a little of the me, me, me syndrom. *grin*

Anyway.......on November 9th I am having a total knee replacement. I would not even consider this except I wish to resume my career with the New York City Ballet! LOLOLOL
Pati

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

That's right, I did hear.....the NYC Ballet will be doing the Nutcracker for Easter this year....

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

LOL...there for a minute, Pati, I thought you were talking about *me* and my *MIL* ("Assume everyone knows about it") WoW!!! I didn't know you were a Ballerina...hehehe! Show us your TUTU!!! :-D (Seriously...I hope everything goes well with your surgery and that you'll *feel* like *dancing* just a few days later.)
