Well GOBs, here's an update.....I thought I had surmounted my bad day, what else could go wrong.........?? Thought you'd never ask. FedEx delivered my brand new 14 cup stainless steel Cuisinart food processor, it's beautiful! Unwrapped it, took all the plastic bags off the parts. Put it together. Plugged it in. Nada. Doesn't work. Went to the website of Eretail.com to contact Customer Service. Closed for the holidays. Tomorrow too. Ramadan and Rosh Hoshanna. I'm now going to sit in my chair and pout. Might even stomp a foot or two. Grrrrrrrr.

Haven't ventured outside. Don't dare. I'll get hit by lightning.

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

not lurking just found thread is this just catching up and chatting? seems like a great group
Anne

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

M5, I would be upset too and probably throw a few things, wonder why it does not work? I have had a cuisinart since it was invented, now I have the latest, I would not want to be without one, simply wonderful. There are several stepps you have to do before it starts, read directions very carefully sometimes mine will not start either bcause I forgot to do something.

Sarv, I think it is just wonderful to be with your mother and sister and simply enjoy one another
Maria

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Meezers, Try another outlet. Just to be sure nothing happened to that one. Good luck.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Meezer, just give it a good whack...that oughta do it........

magoobu, welcome. we are the GOBs....Grand Old Broads, or Gobettes...the ones under 50 so they are in training....lol

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

LOL oh my I have some catching up to do I guess I would be a gobette! But closing in on GOB soon- ok better go catch up on 35 threads be back soon! :-)

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Magoobu, Just jump right in the middle, no such thing as ever catching up. WELCOME Those who bake [or cook at all] put things out on the counter, Cyber snacks have no calories. Julie keeps coffee hot and something cool in the fridge. Pull uppa chair and listen in. Then add your adventures and mis-adventures.

It was too darn windy this morning to have the big truck deliver the metal roofing this morning, with 30mph winds an almost guarantee something would get bent. So instead DS tackled emptying the mudroom out onto the path area in preparation to laying the vinyl flooring out there. My metal shelves full of garden stuff and tools and things to good to toss and half empty quarts of paint..... you know.. and the chest of drawers full of seasonal outdoor clothing.

Naturally the front finally got here [was the cause of two and a half days of full on wind] So we had to do the "dash madly about" thingy, retrieving and covering what was left out. so far we've actually had a quarter inch of rain and the temps have dropped 20 degrees. And we had such a pleasant 76* day going too. :( darn. Now I've gotta get back at making beds and re-arranging all this stuff thats sits in the way of getting anything put away where it belongs.

He's gone home to lunch and I'm munching a sandwich as I stroll thru DG seeing what's doing elsewhere. shh don't tell... I've got way to much to do to be yacking here. ~Blooms

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

thank you Blooms I was thinking it may take me a very long time to catch up! Sounds like quite a day you have had quite a day !

Memphis, TN(Zone 7b)

Hi ALL!

My endoscopy was a breeze.....we were in and out in less than 1.5 hours. Dr. found a small hiatel hernia (I didn't spell that right) and redness throughout my stomach - which is indicative of gastritis (duh!). She took a biopsy just to be on the safe side. So - more tests on next Monday then on the 17th I go back to her for formal diagnosis. They used a sedative that's short acting - within 10 minutes of not having it in my system - I was totally alert and able to walk out on my own! I usually get really nauseated with going under - but not this time. Thanks to everyone for all your good thoughts and support - I really appreciated it! Only thing that's bothering me now is my arm where they put the sedative through the iv - it's aching. The medicine burned like crazy going in - then I don't remember anything.

Hope to see some of you on chat later!

Marcia

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Yay, Marcia!!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Don't worry about catching up, Anne, did not do that either, as a matter of fact every body has so many nice and fun things to say I still can not catch up from day to day, I tell you this is a great thread. Some times we complain about something, another time we are very happy about something else :-))) , and of course it is always about gardening, the best of all.

Weather does not want to cooperate when you wish it would, Blooms, always the way.
Very bad advice from Lucky, Meezer, do not listen to her LOL
Maria

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

Oh Betsy I do hope you are feeling better! Will be thinking good things for tests on Monday- not sure what all of the testes are for (new here) but can keep positive thoughts for you!
Maria thanks I found it easier not to even try to catch up on all the goings on just pop in!
LOL

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Glad Marcia......now, can you get some more of that sedative? sounds like fun.....lol You sound very chipper and relieved....

Hap

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Wonderful, Marcia, You are going to be OK, just behave and do what the Dr. ordered. :-) In other words don't do what I do!
Maria

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

magoobu, those of us who are "regulars" on here never get caught up either... all of us just come here to chat about the day, or the husband, or tribulations, health issues, and quite often small pleasures! So, just hang in... you'll get to know us individually as time goes on.

As for me... man, I MUST get off pseudo food (frozen dinners) which is the bulk of what I've eaten for dinners since my mother died 5 weeks ago (except when my sis was here)... Yuck, and tonight's was the worst. But at least my cat liked it! (Some frozen stroganoff.) One would think I'd be losing weight!

I took some photos of the front of this house (where I rent the basement apartment in back) because my LL has done a great job of landscaping and it looks wonderful. However, it was the wrong time of day and there's a glare from the sun on all the shots. I'll try to remember to take some with morning sun tomorrow.

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

Hi darius! So sorry about your Mom. :-(
I know the feeling about the dinners though I married a chef and that means (since we own a restaurant out here) I am home making dinner for my five year old and just throwing something boring together for myself most of the time! He is off to work to make gourmet food for the rest of the masses. Tonight I think grilled cheese and tomato soup BORING LOL

does anyone here go onto the live chat I just heard about it??
Anne

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Yes, several of us pop in and out... depends on the conversation. If it gets too busy I usually leave because I cannot keep up... have to look at the keyboard to type a reply and therefore miss lots, LOL. There's also a Chat on Thursday mornings from 7-10 EST

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

I am not a fast typer either so may get lost in the shuffle but may go on tonight to give it a whirl since DH is working!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Phoenix is out from Towson? I lived in Middle River when I worked at Johns Hopkins. Loved the area out to Sparks... if I remember my geography correctly!

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Hi Hey and Howdy Magoobu!

Welcome to the Gobs and Ettes, altho since it's October, I think I can get away with calling the "elders" GOBLINS!!!

I'm mornin_gayle aka gayle aka mg. Nice ta meetcha Anne!

I'm the chat princess and the one with the warped sense of humor.

Chat room opens in 6 mins, see you there! Do you know how to get in? On the front home page where it says "chatroom opens in..." it will say "chatroom is open!" If you have a problem, post here, I'll keep an eye out for you!

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

YES we are 10 minutes north of Towson right up Jarrettsville Pike my husband bought a restaurant out here 4 years ago (in Four Corners- do you know that part) and we moved from Towson out here 3 years ago! I love it. If you remember the area it is like being close to the town but far enough out to feel like you are in the country.
When did you work at Johns Hopkins very impressive!!

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

Thanks MG I have seen you in some forums I am usually spotted in the pet threads!
I will try to get in and if any problems will post here thanks!!!
Have to get the little guy into bed around 7:30 HOPEFULLY! But will try to get in before and pop back after love this thread how wonderful you all are as all are on Daves ! For a stay at home Mom with a hubby that works most nights it is wonderful company!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Oh, Lordy... showing my age! I worked at Hopkins in the late 60's and early 70's in a split job. Worked 3 days a week in open-heart surgery, and was on the team that did the first heart transplant (I ran the heart-lung machine that kept them alive while the heart was stopped), plus on the team that did the first coronary artery surgery at Hopkins.

My other 2 days were grant-funded, researching an implantable artificial heart, plus some replacement valve research.

I remember a tiny downstairs club out the Pike when I lived there... some unknown folk singer was the entertainment... John Denver!

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

magoobu,

I'm a retired executive chef. and boy does it feel good to retire. Don't let him work too many hours. All work and no play....as the saying goes. But I understand....There is such a "high" to be had in a kitchen, it's incredible. there is nothing like it. That part I dearly miss. It's the hours and cement floors that I don't miss. Does he belong to the ACF?

Hi magoobu,

I'm a parttime miniature shopkeeper and quite new to posting on this thread. Was a great lurker and spent much time here in tears usually from laughing because I was watching my life lived out by these GOBS but some times tears from the heartaches that are shared here.

Our own Julie dragged me kicking and laughing into posting with the rest and I consider everyone here dear friends. In fact I think I must be related to some we seem so much alike.

Just jump right in and go for the ride with us.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, you all have chatted enough today to cause a new thread to be started. I swear, I can't keep up at all!!

Hi Magoobu, glad you found us, we just say what's on our minds, and general conversation. Happy to have you!! I am defoecat aka Bonnie.

Seems like everybody has had a busy day, Geez Meezer sorry about septic problems.

Aria, great picture, I had to look twice to see which was which, still was not sure until you told us. Better do what the Dr. says, it may get much worse!!

BetsyBug, glad the tests are over. Seems like a condition that good ole meds will cure. Now you be sure and take them!!

Someone asked me if I met Wandasflowers at the round up. Sure did and what an energetic person. She made all of us note cards with pics she had taken of her flowers. I would love to see them in person, so very pretty. I also did plant trades with her, I got two types of iris. When you see her tell her I said HI!!

Well my day has been spent with DMIL. She had her 87th birthday last week, and believe me, she is going down hill fast. She has severe osteoporosis, is hump backed, and as a result it is cutting off her breathing. Was put on oxygen 2 weeks ago, but won't use it. She called this morning, saying she couldn't breathe, so I went, and sure enough, no oxygen. I got that hooked up, and then she asked me to call the Dr. When I called he said take her to ER, of course she wouldn't go. Got her meds ready for her to take, and was missing 2 of them. Asked where they were, she said she threw them away because Dr told her she didn't need them. I was there at that visit, and no such thing was said. So called Dr. back and he called in another RX for these 2. Went to pick them up,, then she complained of a nose bleed, and I told her that she needed to use the nose drops as oxygen dries out nasal passages. Well she wouldn't do that. I am only DIL, so I called one of her daughters and told her that I didn't mind helping, but she is so stubborn, that I didn't think anything I told her she would do.

I guess I am just major overwhelmed, with her and my mom too, although DM, is doing well at the moment. I thought that getting away by going the RU this past weekend would give me some relief, but it lasted all of 1 day!!.

Well, I am going to chat to see what everybody is up to tonight, I hope there is some debauchery, as I am in the mood!! Will check in again later.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

WELCOME MAGOO!! Join the group - tell us all about yourself and your family. We are a grand old group here...pull up a chair and help yourself to whatever is on the table

Just got back from the DGS soccer game. It was glorious weather, but the axe is gonna fall later this week. Might as well enjoy it while we can.

They are cutting the soy beans in the field behind our house- man what a huge machine!! It is fascinating to watch it go back and forth. They will work all night until it is done.

BB glad the test was a breeze. I just dread having doctor proceedures done- I am a weinnie for sure. I do best when it is an emergency and I dont' have to think about what might happen. Doc told me I have a hiatel hernia also (found when I had tests for gall bladder etc) I don't do anything for it - ok - I do take tums once in a while.

m5- just go to bed-= you've had enough go wrong with today. Tomorrow will be better.

Blooms- it was HOW cold at your place? Was that a typo?

gonna head to the chat room now= see ya

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Calm down, Dcat......what a chore you have.. I have a feeling that my daughter will be saying those words in just a few years about me......yeh....I'm just a little stubborn....mind you, just a tad...

When you get to the debauchery, call me..

Otherwise....see you all in the am..

Nite George.

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

Thank you all! I feel so welcome here! I am 41 married - with a 5 year old son living in Phoenix Maryland. we own a restaurant out here and DH works alot of hours as Happy knows! I stay at home with my son and love to make all these new friends here on Daves!!!!!
Like a family here I love it!
Can't wait for coffee in the morning with all of you!

Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

Hi magoobu (and all the "regulars"),
I know I've crossed your path before too. It probably was over in the pets forum since I'm a life-long cat person and can't resist peeking in over there ----especially when there are kitten pictures to gawk at!

Had a fairly busy day at the store today, good thing too as the bills have been piling up on my clipboard. In between customers I've been working on one of my websites. SOMEDAY I'll get it all pulled back together again. I keep hoping that I can get a viable on-line business started before DH's unemployment runs out so that we won't have to worry so much if he can't find another job.

Marcia, great to hear that it doesn't look like anything really nasty going on in there! I hope you'll be able to participate in the Xmas exchange after all.

M5, tomorrow's just GOT to be better! At least it doesn't sound as though the tanks actually backed up! Good luck!

Aria, I guessed wrong about who was who in the first photo.

Dcat you have my sympathy. How come you seem to have to bear the brunt of things with MIL? Can't her own daughter pick up some of the slack?

I have something interesting for the counter tonight. DH has been getting back into cooking a bit since he has time on his hands these days. He made a slightly spicey vegetable soup with some of my garden products plus a few other things. It was quite good and my mother even liked it despite the fact that there was a little cayenne pepper in the mix. (To give you an idea of my mom's tastes, one of my brothers dubbed her "Mrs. Bland")

Time to check on a couple of other forums, then it's off to read and relax a bit. Goodnight all!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

LOL, McCool, you did not, please say yo did not !
I can't wait either, Anne
Maria

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Welcome magoobu! Always nice to meet a new 'face'! And the cyber goodies are simply out of this world.........lol

And a belated Happy Birthday to Maria! That really was a nice pic but I knew which one is u cuz I lurk in the night owls from time to time and saw ur pics of Richard and the kids and ur trip to Vienna. And so sorry about the black days, just don't give up, tie a knot in it .... u get extra prayers and thoughts from me, I understand cuz I live with it.

Day off, raining all day so did almost nothing. It should feel like a wasted day but I read for a few hours (gal at work gave me a bag of J.D.Robb books - anybody read her/him?). Then DH wanted me to go to the cycle shop and check out a bike for me. He's going to put a deposit on it and they'll hold it til spring. He figures we can afford it then. We'll see.... It's a 675 Honda Shadow, canary yellow, very pretty! Plenty big enough for me!

Very little else going on, doing laundry, putting 'stuff' away, etc. DD called and has an old sewing machine for me. The lady next door had an auction sale and people left all sorts of stuff for the garbage. She got a weber grill, chaise lawn chair, shoe polish kit, punch bowl, wine glasses and a few other odds and ends I can t remember. The sewing machine is an old treadle with the cast iron stand and has the wood drawers on the sides. Strange that the buyers didn't want it. If the wood and machine is shot, I'll pitch them and have DH built me a top for it. It'll be my third sewing machine table but maybe I'll give it back to her in table form. :)

BB - glad the test went so well. I've been resisting my drs plans of a colonoscopy for the past 5 years. I get a diverticulitis attack about 2 times a year, usually. This year I am just starting the first attack, probably cuz I've done better with eating fruit and veggies since I started working. I try to take one along for each break so on my 10 hr days, that's 3 'good' snacks. We've been low on the 'line' since school started so I have been skipping a lot of breaks and I think that contributed to this attack. And I ran out of fruit over the weekend. I've been drinking water all day and had only a PB sandwich, a slice of baloney, a few bites of steak and a potato today. Hopefully tmr there will be less pain, or I'll have to make a doc run. grrrr! If I sweet talk his nurse, I might be able to get him to order an antibiotic over the phone.

Our 'puter is so low on memory, I can't get Java on it anymore so until we do something with this machine, chat is out for me. boohoo!!

Sheets are done in the dryer so time to make the bed.

"Truste!"

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Kooger, I'd LOVE to find an old workable treadle sewing machine, or even TWO. One I'd keep for sewing but the other I'd convert for "power" for almost anything, and I can think of lots when the power's out.

DO NOT put off a colonoscopy. They really aren't bad (except the cleanout and that's just tedious and being homebound) and it can save your life.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Yeah, I know about the c.copy, that's why the dr keeps bugging me. We finally have insurance since I started work but have to wait a year before they pay for preexisting. This might be iffy on coverage so I was hoping to wait till the full year is up, May 1st, 06.

I learned to sew on my mom's treadle but since my 3 sisters also sew (one not much), and I am second in line, I didn't get the machine. It was my older sister's first pick. :( Such is life in big families. :) I'm hoping this one is intact. It was raining hard so we didn t run down there tonight. I'll stop in on my way home from work tmr.

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

That was NOT a typo Sarv, the temp dropped 20 degrees in about as many minutes... it's only 49* out there right now at a few mins after 8 in the evening. They say we'll have a low of 40 and bounce backup to 70* tomorrow afternoon.

Hope so, as the swamper is still in the window and the furnace is disconnected. Just love this remodeling stuff.

The house IS getting much better appearing and will shortly [well, not so shortly] look like a whole nother house. My things look almost too tawdry to go back into the spanking new kitchen. Will be re-painting my red shelves for the big wall on either side of the window. Maybe I can get to that tomorrow. Hard to spray paint a set of shelves outside when the wind is blowing 30mph.

See ya all tomorrow, I'm gonna tuck myself in with a book. It's too chilly to do anything else. G'night Mrs Callabash, wherever you are.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Kooger, listen to Darius, I have some friends that had it done, they tell me it is not as bad as it sounds, better to get it over with
Thank yo for your kind wishes and am happy you caught sight of some of my family on owls, seems not many from here do not post there or vice versa, but I do like both threads and have many friends there too.
Those black holes attack me sometimes when I least expect it, am taking medication for it but at times it does not help the way it should but I usually snap out of it. Did not realize how depressed I was while taking care of my husband for quite a few years untill after he died and I completely fell apart to the point I did not want to live any more, there were dangerous thoughts in my head but finally I got over this with help and I think I am ok now except for episodes that show up when I feel down for some reason.

My mother was a wonderful seamstress, she made all our clothes through the years on an old singer sewing machine just like the one you described, Kooger. Still can see her dark hair bending over the machine treadling away in the kitchen where she kept it while I did my home work on the kitchen table, every so often she'd look up and give me that 'Mona Lisa' smile. .
Maria

(Zone 8b)

Hi GOBs, I'm back home!! Its taken hours to skim through all I've missed! Been away 10 days and missed 4 complete threads.
I also seem to have missed a pile of Birthdays, so Many Belated Happy Returns to y'all.
We had a great time, saw a lot of places and a great many dogs. We also 'met' dolphins and a Bald Eagle, which was a thrill.
I'm glad to be home, though exhausted! So will call it quits till tomorrow.
