My brunch with Bud was fabulous! He took me to the Brasstown Valley Resort in north Georgia. There must have been over 100 dishes on the 4 buffet tables not counting desserts, everything from Prime Rib to Eggs Benedict, steamed shrimp and more. We sat out on the covered veranda with a lovely cool breeeze.

sounds divine, darius. I would have eaten wa-a-a-ay too much!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

LOL, I certainly DID! Full as a tick even now, 4+ hours later. : )

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Good gosh folks, this is Sunday, should have been restin stead, you are working fools! Need to take my own advice.

We carried everything home from the community center last night, but the fish cookers. We had to go back today and strain the oil, and bring the cookers home, where I washed them. It was a good fish fry. We had invited over 90 folks, but had about 60 to come. There was food galore. Everyone had a good time, I got more compliments on my hush puppies, and even an offer to come cook at a restaurant.!! No way is that gonna happen.

Sarv, sorry that you had another sleepless night. I went to bed about 12:00 fell asleep immediately, and slept until 6:30. This is a GOOD night's sleep for me. I guess the sleepless night before and my tiredness for the festivities did the job.

Well I still have plenty to do before this body winds down for the night, so ya"ll will have to excuse me.

Night Gracie and Jim Bob.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Darius - man that sounds like a load of food. Bet you don't eat again today! Hey, is the new hurricane heading your way? Hope not...

I've done NOTHING today but putz around - watered a little here and there and snoozed a great deal. I shouldn't have done that as I will be sure to be wide away tonight! Watching the food network now.

DH wants salmon for dinner- I suggested tuna buns. He wasn't amused!! As long as he wants to play chef- I'll eat whatever he wants. My 2nd suggestion was pizza - he hates to go out so I knew that would be a NO.

Son who borrowed our camper still hasn't returned with it. DH is getting antsy and wants to call them - sure hope he doesn't!! He is such a worry wart about stuff like that.

Vio - man you make me tired just reading about all you do!! I feel like such a slug... I was thinking about getting the keyboard out and practicing up on some xmas carols. Last time I tried to play it - it wouldn't work. I love to play and sing loudly (when no one is home of course!!) I have a fantasy that I play for churches - Avia Maria is one of my favorites!! LOL that along with the wedding march.

I need to make a list of things I want to accompolish this upcoming week. It seems if I write things down, I do more.

Well, off for a mini garden walk -it is 90 out again and too hot for much work anyhow!

Kernersville, NC(Zone 7a)

Hey folks, I'm nosing around in this forum. What are y'all talking about in these coffee threads? Looks like you're having fun. Rachel

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Rachel, we talk about the trivia of our daily lives, and sometimes the not so trivial. Feel free to jump in!

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Well, I spent a thankless day trying to find sneakers.....I wear a size 5 and I swear I'm just going to paint my feet black and call it a day.

I wanted some new black sneakers to wear to NYC Tuesday...Going there to spend a few days with my DD. Unfortunately she was brought up by a victorian SOB that lives by the ol' dress code of 1940 and before. "A lady never does this,,,,,a lady never does that........" you get the pic...Well, now she's making me eat my words. MOTHER>.............white sneaks with a black outfit........oh, how gauche. So I had to call her and tell her to get over it, Ma's weariing white sneakers.....at least they are new.

Sneakers have always been my standbys for if I can't get grown-ups, I can wear the kids....now dress shoes is where the fun really begins.. In the olden days, a size 4, which I was at the time, was a "sample size" and I had shoes for $1-2 coming out my ears. Now the sample size is 6-7...boy is that out of the ball park for me. Who has the paint???

See ya'll in the am....don't let the bed bugs bite.

Nite George....

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

LOL, Happy,
I wear size 5 too and boy, is it hard to find shoes that size. Plus shoes that are comfortable! I totally know what you are going thru and I have worn kids shoes at times in my life.
Molly, hope you find a place to live when you need to. Will send you plants if you need them in your new place like in Dec.
Sarv, at least you have a DH to cook for you. All you have to do is eat the food. Around here, I have to do the cooking since there is no DH. But then again, I get to eat what I want and when I want to. lol
Well, I didn't putter around here this weekend. We had forcast of rain so I wanted to get as much done as possible. Ended up dividing perennials, pulling up the rest of the white calla lilies (by the way, if anyones wants these, just let me know real soon), planted a small maple tree which I should have left alone (it was outside my bedroom window in the shade so figured it needed to be put in the sun but the roots weren't that big so should have just left it alone and enjoyed it out my window), gave plants aways to the neighbor, said hi and goodbye to my 18 year old who was coming home from spending the nite at a friends and didn't call me. Of course, he has a cell phone and does he call? Nope, too lazy to do it! Kids!
Of course, I spent this morning deadheading my dahlias and cutting some to bring in for some bouquets. Do love having fresh flowers!
Did go to Farmers Market and got some good sourdough bread, fruit and veg. that I don't have in my garden, and of course, stopped by the nursery on the way home which was having a big sale. I did good. I only spent $4 on 2 plants. Got a violet that was quite full in its pot so I could divide it up and plant in about 4 different places.
Well, off to figure out what to have for dinner. A fresh apple sounds good after working in the yard all day long. I know all you guys look forward to a beer or glass of wine, but that isn't my thing. I like Pepsi better!
Later, Carol

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Holy Cow Viola Ann, slow down, you are making the rest of us look like slugs!! After reading that list of to-do-s, I might just have to have a lie down to recover! LOL

Spent most of the afternoon with my DIL at a local festival sponsored by the Indian tribes, Indian Summer. They sell art work, crafts, tee shirts, leather items, a big variety of native American food, wild rice/fry bread/etc., there's competition dancing, they all make their own costumes, and we had our picture taken with a Bald Eagle that had been rescued. Someone had shot the father, and since eagles mate for life, the mother then abandoned the nest, and when they found her later, she had starved. They rescued the chick, and she imprinted with her human caretakers, so now she goes to venues like this and has her picture taken with people. She is beautiful.

But I am fried...hot sun, lots of walking, and then we got an impromptu dinner invite from business associate of DH's who is in town for a couple of meetings....went for Mexican and brought home enough burritos/enchiladas for another meal or two. I'm truly well stuffed.

Darius, your brunch sounded wonderful. What a nice day for you!

And before I forget, Welcome Butterqueen. Yes, we do have a good time.....we complain, vent, laugh, share stories, plant tips, talk about our kids/pets/relatives/bargains etc. and it's all good. Jump in any time. Most of us are well seasoned....Darius has named us GOBs, Grand Old Broads, and we certainly are! If you are young, you can be a GOB in training, everyone is welcome. We share noncaloric cyber treats, and we have one gentleman guest who shares his baking adventures with us.

Ooooh my aching arches. Heading for the big fat comfy chair to put my feet up and catch up on the Sunday funnies. I'llpost the eagle pic after I send this one.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

M5, that pic is way cool. Bright and colorful garb.

Carol, Thanks so much. I believe I will be heading up to my property by Gainesville. I have put some feelers out for info and helpful hints for getting my vacant property habitable. So yep, I will be moving in December. I'm going to try to take as much of my garden as I can, sell the rest in yard plants sales along with some of my household baggage. Now my zone 9 plants will finally be happy. Imagine that!!!!

Sounds like everyone had a good weekend. I worked on getting work together and it paid off. Start a good sized job tomorrow. Need to make some money to make this move. Keeps us out of trouble too.....away from the nurseries. heehee

Well, getting late, need to get up early. See yall in the morning.

Molly

P.S. Sorry I never bring any snacks, but I just don't cook, ask anyone.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Check out the guy in the light green costume on the right, he was doing windmills all around the circle and tossing the feathered sticks up in the air and catching them!! Never dropped one! It was over 90* and humid, can you imagine how hot those outfits were?

Here's something to scare away the burglars! LOL Do we look steamed?? We were sweating. You can see the handlers hand behind us, the bird is sitting on his arm. She doesn't look real!

Well - after spending ALL weekend doing chorus librarian duties - I am even MORE sure of my decision to give it up. I've not been able to do anything I wanted to do this weekend - no glass work, no gardening......AND - have nothing to show for it except 100 chorus rehearsal folders stuffed with 19 pieces of music to hand out tomorrow night. Luckily - there are two ladies that will taking over the duties tomorrow night - and then I'll have one more week to get the rest of the stuff to them......then DONE! I'll be so glad.

This weekend has been such a bust - I don't have much to say - except we have a sweet little dog in our precious little Penny Pooch. For those of you who don't know - she came from New Orleans with a lovely family who can't keep her where they're temporarily housed right now - so I'm keeping her. She's been no trouble. Friday - she pretty much slept all day - but then Saturday she was more lively. She barks and chases the cats some - not too bad - and it's so funny because she's 1/3 of their size (she's got to be a toy pomeranian). Today she's been eating better and getting into the routine of our household and the cats are even getting use to her and having their food moved to another location. It's all good....and I have to say - I have a wonderful DH too. He has been so good with her. He's a big animal nut too.

Well - I'd better get a shower and get to bed so I can get up tomorrow and go back to work - since I had such a relaxing weekend....okay - I'll stop griping now...it will all be over soon.

Thanks for listening...

Oh and for you ladies that have the small feet - you need to shop on-line. Zappos is good as are MarylandSquare and Auditions...all have wide ranges of sizes (google them). I've had really good luck with Zappos - especially with returns. Never been a prob lem. Maybe I'll go buy a new pair shoes tonight and I'll feel better! LOL!

Marcia

P.S. I never cook either - so ditto what Molly says....;-)

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Hap and DaisyRuffles, I used to wear a size 5 shoe also, but the older I get the bigger my feet get. Have been wearing a size 7 for awhile, and the other day went shoe shopping and a 71/2 felt real good!!

Darius, the brunch sounded wonderful. At a buffet, I feel like I have to sample everything, and as a result come away stuffed.

Butterqueen, come on in and chat awhile. It's always good to get different prospectives on situations.

Sarv, did your son and DIL return from camping yet? Geez, if I had witnessed DIL's tantrum, I would walk a wide circle around her. Does being (supect pg) give license to act like that? Consider yourself very luck to have a man who cooks. Mine can only do bacon, eggs, toast, hot dogs and canned soups. So I could exist on that, but want some variety.

Meezer that festival sounded like fun. The pic is fantastic. On a mini vacation saw bald eagles and they are just majestic.

Sarv, naps in the afternoon, do nothing for sound restful sleep at night. If I can't sleep tonight, will check in to see who's around.

Well going to work some on a church membership audit for awhile, then try to catch some shut-eye.

Sleep well and I will see you in the morning.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

For those of you with size 5 feet, I have a different, but equally challenging problem - a long NARROW foot. 9 or 9 1/2.AA with AAAA heel for dress shoes and as narrow as I can find in a runner. (At least the feet have gotten wider as I've gotten older - when I was in high school I wore a AAAA with a AAAAAA heel. ) Naturalizer in Canada used to be my best hope. Now they've stopped selling shoes here with a multiple last. I think and hope that I still might be able to buy them in the USA because if I don't get the narrower heel, I just step out of them.

Marcia, what kind of choir do you sing in?

Guess it's really bed time here - I'm still on Western time and it seemed to come early. lol

Defoecat, I wish I could wear a bigger size so I could find shoes.
ViolaA, my mother had horribly narrow feet too, like AAA plus my 2 sons have narrow heels. It was hard to find basketball shoes for them that didn't slip out at the heels
BetsyBug, that is so sweet of you to take care of the pooch.
Meezersfive, the indian festival sounds so interesting. My father always loved totem poles and he loves to watch the eagles fly where he lives in Washington on the water.

I do like to cook when I have the time. I love to bake goodies. And of course, I love to eat it all too. Being single now with only 1 son living with me, the cooking takes a toll on me. Since I do like to cook, I end up eating it all since there are less people eating it all! lol

Anyways, here are some blueberries muffins. Have one, they tasted pretty good! Had to use up some blueberries that I picked a week ago.
Well, off to bed soon so everyone, have a good week.

Blueberry muffins for breakfast, yum! Just thought I'd post one more pic, these two young ladies happily posed for me, and I'm sending them copies. We watched them dance...aren't they just beautiful?

Morning everyone!! Sounds like we made it all alive thru another weekend! And had fun to boot!

Welcome Butter - this is the grandest place to be. You can tell all your triumphs or your woes and we all will help you thru them!! Better than a shrinks couch anytime!! Plus cheaper!!!

My sister showed up last night - I wasn't expecting her until Mon. eve. Oh well, we had a fun time. Gave each other hand, foot and back rubs. ohhhh soothing... I made a pan of peach cobbler, but it is outta the box - might want to pass on that - tasteless! But warm & comforting... We're gonna hit the antique malls today - a little treat for each of us is in store!!

Size 5 shoe - man, I passed that size and jumped to a 8.5 or 9!! Big clumbsy suckers- no wonder I trip so often. I have never been small and petite - cow like is more me.

Haven't heard a thing from the kids who have our camper. Hopefully they are keeping it to clean it out and regas the truck. Not holding my breath tho. Ya, that new DIL is something else. I just try show her a lot of love and concern, and never criticize her because if she turns on me - I hold a grudge!! LOL I do wish she would keep her ranting and raving outta sight tho - puts a damper on gatherings, let me tell ya. A few years ago we were watching old xmas movies (and it was at xmas time) and my DS old girlfriend was in some of them. New DIL jumped up in a huff and went home. She later called, crying, saying she just couldn't take the pics. Oh = give me a break. I was very understanding, but thought to myself - what a looney tune.

M5- that eagle was beautiful - love festivals, but DH doesn't, so I seldom go. I don't like to do 'alone' things. Need to find myself a 'sugar daddy'...

Betsy - so sweet of you to take in the little pooch. I'd have a hard time giving it back up!! Speaking of pets, here comes my kitty to the door - meowing - let me in! Better go for now!!!

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Oh Daisy - I would LOVE some calla's.....I'm in zone 5 - will they overwinter here outside??? Tell me how I can get some - please. Oh , this made my day!!! I've got one pot of them that Iug inside in the winter and back out in the spring...

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

DEFOECAT, For the "can't sleepers" here's a thread. Very much like this one, but the postings are in the wee small hours. Next time you need a chat in the middle of the night, check it out!

Betsy, thanks for the shoe info...I certainly will check it out... My DD has a 5 1/2...she'lll like them too.

Got to pack.....off to see her in NYC in the early am.

Hap

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

R.daisy...Please put me down on your 'reserve' list for some of those Calla Lilies. I've always loved them but never managed to garner the guts to try to grow them. Now things are different and I don't mind 'lifting' a lot of plants in the fall. (Hence the dahlia binge I'm on...hehehe) I'll take whatever you send...I'm assuming that you're not looking for a trade, just postage?

Man! All you GOBs are working your little behinds off! I had good intentions of getting a mess of stuff dug and potted for a trade with a friend here (Yes...well...geez, I just realized that I honestly *don't* have a friend in this town...just acquaintances...how depressing is that? and where did THAT thought come from??? Guess I'm not really awake yet and haven't gotten control of the thought process and how it effects my fingers. LOL)

Like I said, I had good intentions and was actually outside digging when my DS spotted me....and I hear "LOOK! Angel....there's NEEN-NAH!!!" (Shuckkky Darn! BUSTED!!!) The following three hours were spent inside listening to 'The Wiggles' 'Doodlebops' and 'Jo-Jo's Circus' while Angel slept on my couch! If it weren't for the fact that I'd miss my GK's I wish that DH & I had moved out of state instead of building this house on the same block with the boys. (Geez...here I go again!)

I think I'd better grab my camera (...M5, those are TERRIFIC pics!) my notebook and get the heck outta here before this really turns into a professional 'couch session'. LOL

LOVE YA ALL!!! (Welcome...Butter!)

Hi again,

Last time today - gotta go do some work. for those who want to encourage the weight-loss challenge, I just posted a pic of my big butt at http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/544229/#new

Ann

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

patischell, thanks for that link. It doesn't happen every night, but really often. Now I know where I can go for a chat at 3:00 a.m.

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

'Mornin. Restful day today, I hope. Been working for a change. Local wine maker called for volunteers to help bottle. Spent three days putting bottles on the bottler.I think we did about 500 cases in all. Due to the sulfites I'll have to wait a couple months to try the 'samples'. It was an interesting experience.
Went out to play toss the sock with Tinker this morning and saw the Alonsoa meridionalis I got from Ursula has a couple blossoms. Thought it might be too cold for it here. Pretty plant, lots of good examples in the Plant File. Today might be a good day to plan the rain barrel 'water tower'. Have to finish a book and get it back to the library though so that might take precedence. "Lend me an ear", Mable Hoffman. Training a 'Hearing Ear Dog'. Sort of like a seeing eye dog, but for hearing impaired. Would like to get Tinker into it if possible. Trainers are hard to find and I don't travel well so that limits the prospects some. Left Penny's Lemon Pepper Biscotti out over the weekend and they lost their crunch. They are out of the oven now, crunchier than ever, and soon to receive their lemon glaze. Give me an hour and you can help yourself. Just noticed my keyboard is grimy. I'd stick it in the dishwasher, but there isn't a full load, but then mebby I's not playin wit a full deck. (giggle)

Lordy, you all have been busy ~~~~~waving to Butterqueen, others who I haven't met yet and GOB's all.
Haven't been doing much except trying to keep the garden watered. Still no rain, they are promising rain this week-have heard that before.
Sarv-don't envy you your DIL-sounds like a handful-!
We have to winter calla lilies inside up here in the north--just don't lose them, like I did my cannas-forgot that they were in the basement-found them a season or 2 later-canna mummies.
M5-love the photos.
Marcia-so very happy the puppy is settling in...
Got to go, getting sleepy..this not being able to sleep at night, getting really "tiresome"
Good to check in what you all have been doing, will try to be more chatty next time.
Going to snooze with the furkids, I make a really plush mattress :)

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Not good news. Had a note from my doctor's office in today's mail (since my line is always busy being online). My doctor has seen the results of my CT Scan taken Sept. 1 and wants me to see a Pulmonologist ASAP.

(Zone 9a)

I don't have time to read everything. I am at work and no computer at home for awhile. But how funny to hear someone call them "sneakers" again. When we moved down here, they were "tennis shoes." I myself still call them sneakers.
Nancy

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Darius...that is *not* good news. Sorry to hear that you're still in whatever zodiacal 'rising' that's causing all this trouble!

Nancy...I still call them them 'sneakers' too...but in Okla they were called 'tennis shoes'...and I wish I could still FIND "keds". LOL (I know they're out there...but I'd rather go barefoot than go shopping!)

~julie~

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

So sorry Darius. It's always scarey when a doctor sends you up to the next level for consultation. Think positive, it could be that he will be able to address your problem and prescribe medication that will give you more relief than what a "regular" doctor does.

My rheumatolagist is sending me on "up" to an orthededic surgeon. Hopeing for the best.
(hugs)
Pati

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Julie,

JC Penny's carries Keds.

:^)))

(Zone 8b)

Wow what small feet you girls have - my size 12 EE plates of meat should give me a firm grip on the ground. Funny I can't stay verticle!

Sneakers, Pumps, Plimsoles, Daps, Gym Shoes, Tennis Shoes are keds the same? The things we wore before they invented trainers :>)

Darius, whatever next!! What is a pulmonologist? I thought you already saw a lung specialist? Hope its just a 'safety precaution" and rude words about smoking and nothing more.

Sarv - did you get to the dentist yet - we are not going to let you 'forget' to go you know!!

Just been doing the worlds wetest job - replacing and re aligning sprinklers - I was soaked to the skin! Came in to take a shower and found the bedroom full of electricians rewiring the smoke alarms. DH let them in while I was busy, so I had to sit around on the patio wet and dry the slow way. Squelched every time I moved!! Sounded quite disgusting - they've left now so I'm off for that shower. Catch y'all later.
Carol

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Okus/Carol (since we have two Carol's now!) I have not seen a lung specialist at all since this began last year.

A pulmonologist is a physician who possesses specialized knowledge and skill in the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary (lung) conditions and diseases.

My feet have grown from a size 6-1/2 when I wore heels for business to a 7 or 7-1/2 now that I wear hiking boots or sneakers. Sneakers, tennis shoes, keds, gym shoes are all the same... soft soles that absorb shock and don't mar the wood floors of a gym.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Size 9 1/2 here...it's been so long since I was actually fitted for shoes (sometime back when they still used those 'floroscope' (I think) x-ray machines where you could see your toes wiggle!) And yep...those are the same as 'sneakers' & 'keds'. But I still remember them squeeking on the gym floor Mondays after all the gymsuits and shoes were washed...I can also remember them STICKING to the floor and causing some tumbles when they were clean. hehehe Back to the 'falls'!)

IT's time for nice cool, refreshing Iced Tea for me. I was outside gathering seeds but the wind was blowing too hard to keep them on the table...and the sweat was causing them germinate! So I had to come in and see what you all were up to now.

~julie~

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Darius, so sorry to have you worry...but just because he has referred you to another does not mean trouble....maybe just better treatment for what you already know you have. I like that reason better....prayers are here for you. Just glad you got your "date" in with nothing on your mind. heheh

Julie, Molly is right, plus Sears, Macy's, Penneys etc. I have them too. I don't wear them much because in just a short while my back screams.

Hap

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Canadians call them "runners" rather than sneakers and in the 35 years I lived here, I've gotten used to it.

Darius, good luck. Think positive. You know you've got lots of support here.

Pati, best of luck with the orthopod. But if they want to operate, make sure you've considered all the possible options. Sometimes those guys are knife happy.

Ann

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Darius, so sorry to hear that you are being sent to another Dr. I will second Happy's reasoning, just referred for better care, medicine that will help your problem. Will talk to you GOB's later, gotta get something started for supper.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Hey, I just got some GOOD news!

My landlord has contacted the propane company that installed my heater. Hopefully they will get someone out here in a few days to check it out. Plus he's going to talk to an electrician about getting another circuit down here, and is getting knobs for the rest of my kitchen cabinets. Yippee!

It might be a little slow getting it all together... his main home is in Gulfport MS and he has to go down in a few days to get the 3/4 mile of driveway cleared, and repairs started. That house sits on 30 acres of woods, all now trashed. But he'll be back soon thereafter.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Darius,

You'll be liven' large, girl......
