Talked to son in Charlotte, NC. Said gas went to $3. a gal and the they closed all the gas stations yesterday at 7:00PM.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Canadians have been paying the equivalent of about $3.20/ gallon for a few weeks now - and that's without a crisis. But then Europeans have been paying a lot more than that for years.

I went to town on Tues. and filled up with gas at $2.47 per gallon.

I had to go back to town on Wed. and it had already gone up to $2.66.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

The cheapest gas locally is 3.19 as of 10 pm tonight. Locking gascaps?
They are cutting gas lines and draining tanks that way. No syphon needed and the cost to replace the line on top of replacing the gas.... *$#*!##*&^!

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

2.99 here at 4:00pm

Cost of living raises??? No you can bet not.

The husbands place of work...terrible place to work for, but thank God they did open there hearts and hired 3 guys temp hurricane victims. Hip Hip Horray. One guy is in his 60's and he said atleast

Looking at gas consumtion and the fact that it will some day dry out we have to look at other recourses. we cant always be driving cars on gasoline.
Our inner city busses in our capitol drive on a mix on 90% rapeoil and 10 %gas. the exhauses smells like pancakes. we have to start changing our ways. or we set up our kids and grandkids for harde times than we ever can imaging.

Janett welcome to Dave's Garden.
Yes, we do need new sources. Pancackes would be an improvement over the disgusting smell most buses put out.

By the end of yesterday, the price had gone up to $1.40/litre. I don't know what it is today.

Glad I have a bicycle! ; )

Oh, I saw a guy on the news who had converted his vehicle to run on used cooking oil. He picks it up for free at most fast food places. Says his exhaust smells like french fries. : )

Rhonda

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, either there are reports of gouging being acted on or stations are just getting major grief.... Wednesday night, a station here went up to $3.08 from $2.78. The next morning it was back down at $2.89.

This morning the Sam's Club station had $2.86 and the competing station around the corner had $3.09 so there are a lot of wide differences in price.

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

I'd posted in the old thread that there's a guy around who who has converted his pickup to run on used vegetable oil, too....the exhaust *does* smell like 'fries'!

He has a switch inside the truck. Starts the engine using 'fuel'....after a few miles he switches to 'oil', then before he stops driving, switches back to fuel.

He said it wasn't too complicated to make the change, either.

Timberlea, NS(Zone 6a)

Oops, sorry Nan; I came in to this thread just lately and missed your original post! : ) But, hey, it's probably worth repeating right now! ; )

I found this article about it:
http://journeytoforever.org/biodiesel_mikeadd.html

From the article:
' "If somebody can home-brew beer, they can do this," Ozzy said. "I compare it to the difficulty of gardening or home-brewing." '

I think the "switch" is from diesel to veg. oil, not from gasoline to oil. ;-(

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Having figured it out to the cent but here we are now almost paying what would be $4.00 American for one U.S. gallon.

Timberlea, NS(Zone 6a)

Yes, Imway. Sorry, 'bout that. It's "biodiesel", so it would require a diesel engine. Didn't mean to get everyone's hopes up! ; ) However, it certainly gives one incentive to consider buying or trading for diesel vehicles, generators, hmm, lawnmowers(?)--I dunno, whatever will run on diesel! : )

My sister has had a diesel car for years. She's one smart cookie--I should've followed her example a long time ago!

1:21 PM now 3.29 and they just said will raise again before 6 PM . raised 3 times yesterday .

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Makes me hate to have to go to the grocery store (even though I have 3/4 tankful) because I'd have to pass the gas station and see the current price.

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

I'm thinking it may be cheaper to buy groceries at the convenience store rather than drive the 14 miles to town!

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

3.29 today

i had to go grocery shopping today . didnt go last week and nearly cried at the prices.

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

John, you have a point! I don't leave the house but 2 times a week and plan the exact, don't waste a drop route with sale papers and coupons too.
Will be looking for a bicycle while I'm in Fayetteville. Most the population there can buy gas "on base" so maybe I can find a reasonable one.

My BIL and sister-in-law are one of the flood victims in New Orleans.. Anyway, she and her two daughters are currently in hotels in Alexandria... she doesn't know if they have a house or not.. they only hear rumors about the West Bank.

But, more to the point of the gas prices.. William (my DH) is wanting to go to Alexandria, pick her up when the time comes to go check out the house (in case of any break-ins) etc.. and to help them.

Can you imagine how much the gas would be to drive from Southern CA to Alexandria then New Orleans, then back to Southern CA?

I think I would just fly down there if they have an airport in Alexandria, which he is going to check today.

Well, since I am not driving lately, I cleaned out my car really good (just in case)..

Burros are small/er (than a horse). Don't poop as much either! ;-)

Poop must be proportional to size?

Here's my suggestion, LOL

I filled up yesterday and it was $3.05 a gal. Talked to my son today he works for a hugh gas co. selling it. He said it most likely will be $4 a gal. by the end of this month. He also said we have plenty of gas and he doesn't know why they say they are running out of it.

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

Ha, ha, ha, ha, Darius. I luv it!!!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Glad it brought you a smile, John!

Right we need all the smiles we can get.

This is what my new piggy bank looks like, after these prices hit.

Thats my bank account. Now. LOL

I feel like I need to get a second job to pay for gas to get to my full time job. I am in a fairly rural area. In one town, on the way home from work I saw prices from $2.89 to $3.30. I would think that a price increase would only occur when they get a new delivery of gasoline.

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

That is the definition of price gouging, elsie.

$2.81/gal at Sams in Sherman, TX today. Most of the others are near $3.

Millersburg, PA(Zone 6b)

Gas is $3.19 per gal in Central Pa. The Choice station had taken the price down from the overhead signs and had the pumps enclosed in plastic. They are not selling gas, because: The computers in their pumps cannot go above $3.00 per gal. and they have to sell(here is Penna.) for the price the pump states. LOL
Claire

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

There is one gas station in our town. He told a friend (good source) the prices aren't given to them when the delivery is made. They call them and tell them to raise prices; could be days after the delivery. Crazy way to do business.

We are about fifteen minutes from shopping. Yesterday I called two neighbors to see if they wanted to go along, or have me pick up something. I'm sure we will continue to do it this way.

Jody

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

I wish I could do bussiness that way. Deliver a product, then call daily to tell folks how much they use is going to cost them that day.
