Nor Cal Roundup - September 24 - Plant trades

Santa Cruz, CA(Zone 9a)

MMQc no worries, maybe later in October we have a more local round up for us slighly more southern N. CA people that is not a 2 hour drive away...

I would be happy to host at mine it large enough.

How many do you have, and i should ask where are you located in San Jose, i would be driving from Santa Cruz, but do not wish to go too far out of my way on an already long drive?

Let me know and lets see what we can do

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Is anyone interested in hoya's. I don't want to drag them all down there is there is no interest. I have three in 12" hanging pots, publicalyx 'pink silver', obovata, and motoskii, I also have a variety of rooted hoya's cuttings from my collection.

Also Is there any interest in canna's. I have regalis which has orange blooms and
another tall one with Red blooms. The foliage on both of them are pretty.

Are we suppose to bring tables to sit out stuff out on.

Does anyone want me to save them a chalice vine? I think I have two of them rooted, and two Thunbergia battiscombii's

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

me me, I'll D-Mail you!

San Jose, CA

jerodsmom. I'd love to try a hoya--maybe the publicalyx or the motoskei or just a rooted cutting would be fine? Maybe when we're there you can fill me in on how to grow them.

Fremont, CA(Zone 9a)

Hoya's - something new to add to the fold. I woul love some cuttings or rooted cuttings. Any of them for a newbie.

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

O.K. I will bring some hoya's.

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Hanna1 I will be bringing a few extra rooted brug. and also an assortment of
brug. cuttings that I put in water today. They will be ready for whomever to take them and pot them up.

Last minute....I know....but I managed to dig up some offsprings of my Gloxinia sylvatica. And I have a small amount of other stuff.

HAVE:
6 - Gloxinia sylvatica 'Bolivian Sunset' (offsets from mother plant and about 4-6 inches)
4 - Kalanchoe uniflora 'Coral bells' (propagated by rooting in water - as we speak)
2 - Geranium macrorrhizum 'Cranesbill' (bought but never planted...they need a good home)

The kalanchoe are very easy....mine have been in a hanging basket in full heat of the sun and have not even shown any signs of stress. They're supposed to be winter bloomers...the mother plant was blooming when I purchased it this past spring. I can always gather more cuttings if need be. lmk

Thanks,
Lisa

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Lisa...I would like some Kalanchoe uniflora 'Coral bells' ...I will have brug cuttings and daylilies mostly if you want some!

Thank you,

Margie

San Jose, CA

Lisamr, I would really love some gloxinia sylvatica. I'm picturing just where it will go!

Rotterdam, NY(Zone 5b)

Thanks Margie! Just in time too...I'm starting to grow brugmansia's...just got my first 2 the other day. Is there anything else you want? because I would love a brugs cutting IF you have extra.

Lilystorm - I have a really nice one for ya. They are very hardy...I had it growing in the morning sun...and it looked beautiful....no blooms yet. I have it marked down as one of my winter blooming plants.

Thanks,
Lisa

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Lisa...what color would you prefer in a brug? I can have cuttings, even if they are not all rooted.

OK...Lisa, you talked me into it...I'll take a Gloxinia sylvatica 'Bolivian Sunset' too!

Margie

Fremont, CA(Zone 9a)

lisamr - I would love the Kalanchoe uniflora 'Coral bells' and Gloxinia sylvatica 'Bolivian Sunset' The Kalanchoe looks similar to my Kalanchoe manginii, of which I have plenty if you would like it. Look at my list above, maybe I can entice you with a hibiscus.

George

Rotterdam, NY(Zone 5b)

LOL Margie....got it!

Thank you George....if I could get one of your Kalanchoe manginii...that would be great.

All extra plants are going into a $1 yard sale the following weekend. Period.

I will have the following succulents:

* Portulacaria afra
* Kalanchoe pumila

I started rooting them about 6-8 weeks ago, but the roots are still very small. I'll have approximately 5 of each kind.

Castro Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

lilystorm, I would love one of each, oh boy, I'm bringing succulents also, my favorites, besides Cactus!!!! I don't know the name of most of them, lol, just know I am!
Annie

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

lilystorm, I would love some of your Portulacaria afra and Kalanchoe pumila. They will go to the Berkely Botanic Garden cactus & succulent section to be further propagated. What would you like in return? Thank you so much!

Rotterdam, NY(Zone 5b)

lilystorm....can I get a Kalanchoe pumila from you?

Thanks,
Lisa

edited to add: Googled it to see if I can use it in a hanging basket...and there was a pic of one spilling over a pot. Thanks! :-)

I'll reserve the succulents for you, hanna1, pekasky, and lisamr. I love suculents too, so I'll be anxious to see what shows up on Saturday. My children love growing them, since they are so colorful and don't require so much upkeep.

Merced, CA(Zone 9a)

Lily, wonderful! I will bring those along, too! The Sea Holly surprised me, no one else wants any.....snifff....lololol......

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

OK, I edited the list of plants I'm bringing. It's up at 9/19, 6:32pm. Please let me know what you'd like!

lilystorm - What would you like in trade for the Kalanchoe and Portulacaria?

San Jose, CA

I'll take a look at your list, pekasky. Bear in mind that the portulacaria and kalanchoe are very small. I'm just happy to share it.

San Jose, CA

LadyAnne, I think the Seal Holly is lovely. I can't wait.

Pekasky, I'd love one each of the Gasteria batesiana and Gasteria liliputana. My children will think they are fascinating.

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

Done!! The Gasteria liliputana is also small - but that's why it's called "liliputana"!!!

Anyone else?

Marilyn

San Jose, CA

PotEmUp, if you're still bringing some echevaria and the crocosmia, I'd love some.

El Cerrito, CA(Zone 9b)

Okay, talk about last minute, does anyone have a California Bay tree? I am dying to put one of those in a container...don't really have a place for the full tree planted in the ground (not to mention the new El Cerrito tree ordinance that would probably prevent my planting it). Anyone? I love to cook with bay leaves, and they are soooo yummy fresh. I have bags of soil in the back of my van to trade, and/or...

I know it's lame, but I'm thinking I'll roam around my property in the morning snipping cuttings from this and that to bring along...does this sound utterly ridiculous? Among the possibilities:
Trachelium caeruleum, Plectranthus zuluensis, Hypericum androsaemum, Salvia clevelandii, Butterfly Bush (davidii: White Bouquet and Pink Delight), Osteospermum (a purple African Daisy...very pretty ground cover), azaleas (white or pink), Yellow Brug (aurea x suaveolens), Bougainvilla (don't know species but I call it my miracle plant because it was transplanted hastily with very little care and THRIVED), Fuschia (don't know species), Princess Tree, Camellia (unknown species - I have a red and a pink one), Magnolia tree (the one with huge white blossoms) Cotoneaster (the 12' variety...again don't know species), creeping Rosemary (or regular rosemary for that matter). I think that's it that might work with a last minute cutting...in fact, I don't know if this will work at all? I was thinking I could put everything in a big tub, keep it moist, bringing along cups and florist tubes to prepare at the site...will that work?

Too bad I've been clipping all the buds off my castors, I'd have seeds for everyone. They are really pretty! Hmm, maybe my new sparrmannia (African Linden) works with cuttings -- it sure looks like that kind of plant. In fact, I bet my new cloud forest daisy (not yet in the ground) will also propagate from cuttings -- latin name is montanoa grandiflora -- flowers in late fall in winter with giant daisies and is a perfect match for coastal bay area (but not inland). Native to Montane Mexico. You guessed it, I made a recent visit to UC Botanical Garden.

sorry so late to get involved... my life has been a revolving mess all summer.

see ya'll tomorrow, probably around noon, hopefully not much later than that
; )

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

Just glad to hear that you're coming! Whatever you want to bring I'm sure everyone will love. Just bring lots of it! LOL :>)

Marilyn

El Cerrito, CA(Zone 9b)

I may have another in tow -- I just got off the phone with my sister-in-law. She got so excited when I told her about the round-up that she may drive down in the morning, her own cuttings in hand, and accompany me!

See ya'll -- like I said, sometime after noon,
mel

p.s. never mind about the bay tree...my sis-in-law has got that covered! Yippee!!

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

The earlier you can get there, the better. As you know, it starts at 10am. That means the early people will be trading for 2 hours before you get there!! LOL

From the last RU in Stockton, there were plenty of plants for everyone.
