Twisted Round Robins - Part 4

San Jose, CA(Zone 9b)

You are fortunate to be able to grow peonies, Kathy. I just adore them, but mine haven't bloomed yet. I think our winters may not get cold enough for them. I believe I read somewhere that you can simulate the cold with ice...

Hopefully we can speed our bird up a bit and try to get to Gourd before the holidays. Who knows what will happen to the birdie if it gets in with the holiday packages!

Have fun, Kathy and 75154!

Yeah Plant fiend.. my favorite flowers in the world are peonies and hydrangeas. I transplanted about 10 roots of peonies today, still have 2 endless summer hydrangeas that are in pots that need to go in the ground. Just can't decide where to put them where I can enjoy them the most.

I emailed kviolette but haven't gotten an answer yet if she has recieved the robin.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9b)

Sounds like kviolette is going to have a fun weekend!

Kathy, I love Hydrangeas, too. Is that how you propagate peonies, by root cuttings? Or are these new additions to your garden?

Maybe we should email those who are coming up on the two robins just to make sure the timing is good, they haven't moved, etc. These birds have been on long flights. Thanks for the update, Carolyn.

The peonies were roots that I had bought in the early early spring and had in pots. One bloomed in the pot INSIDE the house. Never expected to see that. Can't wait until next year, to see what happens with them. I've done peonies long enough where first year is few blooms, then they double each year. :)

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

I am good still for the Robin! Sheran is after me and Kathys999 right before me so all systems are go for the next three! fingers crossed - Mitch

San Jose, CA(Zone 9b)

Great, Mitch. So once it gets going again we can give a heads up to Golgi, farmerpickle, etc.

Kathy, I think I had my peony in too much shade. I didn't realize they were sun lovers.

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

I apologize for holding the robin for so long..I just didn't have the money to mail it until I did.

Greer, SC(Zone 7b)

I can't ever seem to get in on these things from the beginning. Can I play next time??

San Jose, CA(Zone 9b)

Melva, you shouldn't worry about that. Life happens. It's definitely not my intent to make anyone feel bad. It's just like being a kid and counting down for Christmas. It's very exciting as it gets closer.

s_neubaum, check out the Round Robin forum. It seems as if there's always one going on. Of course, this one is the Grandaddy of all Round Robins!

CONGRATUATIONS, Carolyn!!! I had my first a yea ago and she, too, is the BEST! LOL!!! (Isn't it nice to be so totally UNprejudiced???)

Enjoy! May she live a healthy and happy life!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9b)

Congratulations, Carolyn! My girls are still teens, so I am a ways away from grandchildren, but I sure miss have a baby around (except when I want to garden or sleep, etc!). You are blessed. Enjoy your great granddaughter and best wishes to you all.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Woo hoo, me is next, then off to 75154. If it gets to me by Saturday, I'll have it on the way to you Monday Mitch.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Alright! I can hardly wait!!!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9b)

Thanks for the update, Kathy. I hope you found lots of goodies.

Looks like I may still be in time for winter sowing and maybe we'll even finish up before the XMAS rush!

Fenton, MO(Zone 5b)

plant_fiend.. I don't have it yet. kviolette just sent it out today, so I should get it friday or saturday. I'll have it out by Monday to 75154.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

And I promise to get it back out ASAP! Maybe we can get back on the one a week again!

Fenton, MO(Zone 5b)

I found the robin box on my doorstep when I came home from work last night at 8:30. I'll go through it this weekend and I'll have it out Monday morning via ups. I'll post the confirmation number when I do. (ups not the post office).

Raleigh, NC(Zone 8a)

Glad to hear that the box arrived safely. I was thrilled to see how packed the box was/is and I'll bet you will have fun going through it.

The sad thing is that getting the box and sending it on motivated me to get on the seed cleaning wagon. I am now ready for the next box that comes with many more things to add!

Kathy (kviolette)

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

I planted some flat brown seeds that I may have gotten from this round robin, and wonder if someone recognises the plant and can tell me what it is.
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/554025/
I am not sure I got the seed in the robin and it had no tag telling me what I had. I am sure where ever I got the seed it was labeled, I just didn't take a note down.
So maybe I can get an id from the original owner of the seed.

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

where is the backward robin ?

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

please please where is it who next next next..?? this has been so slow forward and backwards.. maybe because it backtracks over over instead doing wqhole state moving on be faster i do think..

Fenton, MO(Zone 5b)

The forward Robin was received by me on 11/03 (found it on my doorstep when I came home from work at 8pm) It has been sent out to 75154 today 11/07.

UPS confirmation, (not post office) 1Z 59V 569 03 4219 5208

Give it time to register into their system.

Kathy

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

It's good to see the forward robin making good progress again!

Hope, I think the delays have been due more to individual circumstance than to transit times, so I don't think it would be moving along much faster if Alice had organized it state by state rather than randomly, and she wanted to give everyone an equal chance to be earlier on the list.

I believe the last we heard of the backward robin was on October 4, when rh3708 mailed it to tinawind, confirmation number 0304 3490 0002 7470 9947. USPS track & confirm says, "Your item was delivered at 11:58 am on October 06, 2005 in COCHRAN, GA 31014."

Has anyone heard anything from Tina? Is she OK? It doesn't look like she's started any new threads since the end of May...

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

so its been there for month??

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

forward robin got here today - will post when I get it out. I can see a lot of us do not plant the babies breath and red poppies we get in the mail!

Mitch

New York & Terrell, TX(Zone 8b)

I guess I'm the only one who did, Mitch. They really are so attractive when grown together.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

I am adding my little red poppy backet to the mix tooo . . Glad to hear someone does Robin I would hate to think they would float for years without a home.

Raleigh, NC(Zone 8a)

I actually had two packets of the Red Poppies from the mail, which I got *after* I bought a regular packet from WalMart (or somewhere similar) on sale. So, I too added a small Red Poppy to the mix because I already had so many (I did take a baby's breath).

Hopefully they will grow for me this year. I haven't had luck in the past probably because I mulch so heavily that I smothered the little guys. This winter I will skip the mulch in those parts of the garden - I just hate dealing with winter weeds! It will be worth it if the poppies come up.

Kathy (kviolette)

San Jose, CA(Zone 9b)

I love baby's breath and will be happy to see some seeds. It is such a great filler. I really want to get some of the pink type.

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm going to plant ine this year, too. I have limited space and until this year I only grew veggies and their companion marigolds and nasturtiums. This past year I added Morning Glories, Cosmos, Zinnias, Snaps, Celosia, and a few others, and I loved them. Now I'm all gung-ho on flowers. Looks like I'll be clearing a little more space!

Wichita, KS

I winter sowed these peonie poppies and fell in love! I am now obsessed with having them again. Too bad they do not bloom all season.

Those are very pretty poppies. I do grow several varieties of poppies, but haven't grown the peonie style yet. Ok, one more for the list!

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

They are truly beautifu, nuts! I have seeds for several different colors of those. Now I can hardly wait to try them. Are they annual or perennial?
