"Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."
~W.C. Fields (1880-1946)

For an idea of what it takes to cook a snake, though, consider this:

Fillet-O-Snake
Fisher's Wild Game Recipes

4 1-1/2 inch snake fillets
5 tablespoons butter, divided use
1 pound mushrooms, sliced
2 tablespoons onion, minced
1/2 cup red wine
1 tablespoon flour
Salt and pepper to taste
Pinch garlic powder

Sauté fillets in 2 tablespoons butter, 5 minutes on each side. Remove fillets and drain pan.

Add 2 more tablespoons of the butter to pan; sauté mushrooms and onion until tender, add red wine, cook over low heat until contents are reduced by half.

Mix remaining 1 tablespoon butter and flour to form a paste, add to pan and cook, stirring constantly for 1 minute. Add salt, pepper and garlic powder.

Place snake fillets on a serving platter; pour mushroom mixture over snake.

I understand rattlesnake taste like chicken. They use rattlesnake in their chile cookoffs.

I say just eat chicken.

My dad said If you hold the snake by the tail and whip it like a whip, its head will fly off. I personally never tried it. Yuk.

They eat everything here. Even armadillo and they carry leprosy.

Pati - You are going to make me hurt myself!!! ROTF, ROTF, ROTF

Darius - I knew you would not let the challenge go by!!!

I ate Gator Chili once and that was enough. I thought it was tough, but what would I know I'm not too fond of meat of any kind.

The only times I've eaten 'gator or rattlesnake they were very tender.

Hey, Judy, Will you start a Part 3? This thread has timed out on me 2X in the last hour...

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Nope, too much other stuff to eat. Theres a new chinese buffet her that has the best food, ya just gotta be careful what you eat because they sure love to use the baby squid. Quick way to lose the appetite is to see cooked squid smothered in a sauce...then theres the "pasta" that really isnt pasta its sauteed octapus tentacles.

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Yuck!! Yuck!!

I'll start a new thread.
